I LOVE LOVE LOVE the truck just ploughing through cars in a residential neighbourhood. Brilliant!

jim Howe

Also, please watch the second film. Its just as good.

Jeff K

But absolutely, positively, do not EVER watch the third one. It's best to just pretend it doesn't exist.

Donald Selvester

80s action comedies often feature this kind of tonal whiplash as they flit between comedy and violence. Other good watches are Stakeout (D. John Badham, Richard Dreyfuss, Emilio Estevez), 48 Hours (D. Walter Hill, Eddie Murphy, Nick Nolte) and Midnight Run (D. Martin Brest, Robert DeNiro, Charles Grodin).

Jason Pratt

The second is definitely worth checking out, but I don’t think the third is anything y’all would like. I do think y’all might like The Last Starfighter. 1983 sci-fi cult classic.

Jeff K

If you guys wanna know what the Stallone version would have looked like, watch the movie Cobra. Stallone wanted BHC to be edgier and darker and more straight up action, creative differences ensued, and Sly just took what he wanted to do with the character and made Cobra.

Derick Jansen

By the way the song is called "Axel F" and was written as the theme for this movie.

michael clarke

i, for a moment, believed simone didnt know that eddie murphy was a comedian. so she got me too george lol.

Hans Czajkowski Jørgensen

Also note the actor playing Mike Ehrmantraut in Breaking Bad (Jonathan Banks) as the bad guy's right hand man.

Jeff K

He's also got a tiny, blink-and-you'll-miss-it role in Airplane! as well.

Jeff K

You don't star in a cinematic masterpiece like Android Night Punch without some serious, next-level acting talent, you know.

Robert Elliott

Eddie Murphy was Saturday Night Live and stand up comic. He partnered in two movies 48 Hrs and Trading Places both hilarious. Beverly Hill Cop was his first solo movie and he knocked it out of the park. This movie was before a lot of the other action blockbusters. This movie has Eddie Murphy style all through it. Great movie.

GDC

You guys should do Part 2 as well. A lot of people don't think it's as good as this, but I still love it.

Jeff K

And of course there's the irony of Sylvester Stallone's ex-wife being in the sequel, when the original was initially going to be a Sly movie. And they were definitely married at the time BHC2 was being filmed.

Jason McCloud

The second is definitely worth a watch. We don't ever speak of the third. Ever.

I was working in Detroit when they filmed this (long, long ago . . )and remember seeing a long line of police cars being driven by obviously non-police individuals go down the street followed by a parade of movie production vehicles. The chase scene at the beginning always amuses me, partly because so many of those locations no longer exist, as such, but mostly because every time they turn a corner they are suddenly miles away from where they were an instant before.

Kinokind

You didn't recognize names on the poster, but you must certainly have recognized several 80s actors! Taggart and Rosewood's boss is Ronny Cox, who was the villain in Robocop. Axel's well dressed pal in Detroit who's not at his locker was Paul Reiser, the corporate sleezeball in Aliens. Rosewood was Judge Reinhold, who starred in many 80s comedies, best among them: Ruthless People and Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Bronson Pinchot was hilarious as Serge, the art gallery guy with the inexplicable accent. He was in the TV series Perfect Strangers, and the TV adaptation of Stephen King's The Langoliers, among others. Lots of the other cast members were kept busy in those days, too.

Rachel W

A great comedy from the same time that is much funnier, imo, than BHC that also stars Judge Reinhold, is "Ruthless People (1986)", staring Danny Devito and Bette Midler. Freaking hilarious.

Adam Wetstein

Ronnie Cox is such under rated actor

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

agree w most that the second is worth watching...the third not so much... they recently did a fourth film called Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. According to IMDB it is in post production and due on Netflix in 2024.. looks like a good cast..along w Eddie it has Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Bacon so my hopes are high

You know what, I'll self-indulgently do a reaction to your reaction: 0:56 Martin Brest had a good reputation as a director, directing films such as Scent of a Woman. And then, as you said, came Gigli. The movie was famously subject to heavy studio interference, with extensive re-shoots and re-edits, and most people are inclined to give him a pass for it. Nonetheless, *poof*. 3:58 "That is so much destruction!" You do remember The Blues Brothers, yes? :-) 4:14 I hope you recognized Axel's colleague, played by Paul Reiser, also the corporate scumbag in Aliens. Reiser is probably best known from his successful '90s sitcom, Mad About You. (The younger folks might know him (though not recognize him) from Stranger Things.) 5:00 Yes, this is the source of the song "Axel F," which became a big hit in its own right. (It was also re-made by Crazy Frog in 2005.) 7:19 "Ju-ris-dic-tion." Check out the big legal brain on George! You're a smart mofo! :-) 8:10 I seem to vaguely recall some humorous Eddie Murphy diatribe here. What a pity you didn't include it, since I can't quite remember the details... :-| 14:15 No? So how do you start your car? (Also, the Belgian singer Axelle Red.) 14:57 For shame, George! Would it help if I started playing Beethoven's Ode to Joy? 15:42 At the corner of St. Laurent and Ave des Pins? That was no light pole, that was ME! Talk about distracted! 19:20 "The supercop story was working"? Eh. He kinda thought you were a douchebag. 21:40 "What?!" I'm with you there, Simone. I mean, I think that George generally _means_ well, but assuming that just because Eddie Murphy is Black, he must be either an athlete or a comedian is inexcusably racist. I hope you use this as a learning opportunity, George. :-) [ADDED: This is humour, based on a wilful misinterpretation of Simone's reaction. I am not actually criticizing George.] 27:06 ISWYDT.

Bonbon

Not sure what on earth you mean about your comment at 21:40 re George 'assuming Eddie Murphy was a comedian because he's black'. He said he was a comedian because he was one - Eddie Murphy was a stand up comedian and was on SNL before he was an actor........

Stephanie

I don't know why people say that the second movie isn't as good as the first one. I think it's the best out of the three. And to tell George and Simone to not watch the third one and to say that "we" pretend it doesn't exist, is a bit exaggerated. It's not as good as the first two but it has its moments and is still fun to watch.

overdev

yeah always thought the second one is also the best one, the ratings are pretty mean for that :/ when I was a young teenager I loved the third one cause of the setting lol

Thomas Wendel

Not a great movie even by 80s standard but so much fun. The definition of a character driven show. Everyone loved Axel & Billy. It helped that MTV was promoting the crap out of it. That's the way I remember it anyway. Fun to revisit and glad you enjoyed it

John DelVecchio

48 hours please … great laughs and drama

James Falato

I think Eddie Murphy did a lot of his own dialog... But I also think that he didn't do much - if any - improve while filming because the camera work and the other actors were "in synch" all the time... It seems apparent to me that he wrote his dialog prior to shooting...

Amelia M. Pluck

Eddie Murphy in The Golden Child from 1986 ... not his best but the special effects are pretty good for an 80s movie
