*looks at calendar* Is it torture Simone week again already?

JediLounger

Never seen any of these, should be uh, interesting. George, I think the worst production company is The Asylum, and it's not even close. More Here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Asylum Edit: Finished the movie with you guys. It was alright. I can see why it was popular. If you wanted to traumatize Simone further you guys should check out Fallen (1998). Fingers crossed for Rumble in the Bronx on Sunday.

Wyatt Nuxoll

There are two patreon versions........ huh ?

Simone: "I want her to side with the demon and they both kill him." Movie: "As you wish."

MacGuffinStuff

I appreciate the first couple, two or three movies of this franchise because they do a really good job of creeping you out, and I love being creeped out, but I do kind of chuckle at the ending, it's a little over the top. I have my own ghost stories but no one cares, I just mention it because I do believe in ghosts, but barely, as in, I believe my ghost stories but no one else's, if I saw it I believe it, if not, I'm generally a skeptical asshole lol, well maybe. Also, ever watch Celebrity Ghost Stories? I mean you could argue that it's just a bunch of C and D list celebrities, or former, trying to stay relevant, but there are a few really good campfire ghost stories. It's entertaining anyway. Also funny that practically half of the cast of The Sopranos seem to be on that show. Oh yeah, and Micah Sloat was in an episode too.

MacGuffinStuff

Trying to think of some ghost type movies to torture Simone with, just kidding Simone, hey If a poltergeist throws something at you, just through it back at them, they should be scared of you. Speaking of Poltergeist, think you might ever watch that? It's not scary, PG rated, but a few aged practical FX aside, I think it's a well made movie.

Great reactions, Simone and George! Unfortunately, I think this one is the best of "Paranormal Activity" series. The second one has a few scary set pieces, but it also has a number of plot holes (the biggest one being they have a security camera system, but it seems like no one is actually looking at the footage), and one of the characters is played by Sprague Grayden, who I recognized as an actual actress who appeared in the TV series, "Jericho" (18 episodes from 2006 - 2008). Every time I saw her I was dropped out of the movie's world. The rest of the series are just a bunch of groan fests. And yes, the Ouija Board began as a game and was sold in the game sections of toy stores. That is, until 1973's "The Exorcist". And then of course the use of it in supernatural movies became a standard trope of the genre.

1, 2, 3 and marked ones are good. 4 is fine but kind of boring. ghost dimension and next of kin kinda suck. Imo marked ones is the most interesting after the first film but it relies on lore from the first 4 movies so it doesn't work as well on its own.

Odd Thomas

Yasss 1-4 are all pretty watchable. It gets sketchy after that.

Budget: USD$15,000 Box Office: USD$194,000,000

Armchair Rizzard

I actually like this one. I know some dont. I enjoy that it doesn't rely on nothing but jump scares.

Odd Thomas

More scary recommendations: Sinister The Conjuring Insidious The Haunting of Hill House (TV series) The Autopsy of Jane Doe

Opti_Frog

If you think of profit purely as a ratio of production cost to box office gross, 1999’s The Blair Witch Project and 2007’s Paranormal Activity run neck and neck as the two most profitable movies ever made, according th The Hollywood Reporter.

Truth

The boyfriend didn't deserve to die. He was just as freaked out as her but was trying to cover it up with false bravado which clouded his judgement. I couldn't imagine being in that situation with your partner especially when you were only told about this haunting situation when you moved in with your partner. He didnt sign up for this but he didnt make it better either.

dieselbeast

lets get back to the Saw series lol

Simone and George , i don't think that website was fake. The case of Anneliese Michel is very real and if u want to know more about her, i suggest yall watch Exorcism of Emily Rose. Paranormal 1-4 are good, but after that ,it was just a cash cow . i own all but the latest, and there's a reason for that. Check it out . i can't remember if Emily Rose is a scary one ,but it ought to be good. i haven't seen it in ages.

8bitAndy

Love this suggestion! I think Simone and George would enjoy The Exorcism of Emily Rose (well, as much as Simone can enjoy a horror movie anyway). Similar to The Ring, it has a pretty compelling story happening along side the horror elements that make it interesting and not just a fright fest. Well worth a watch, imo.

Jay

Won't be watching til later but some recent horror recommendations - 'Barbarian' and 'The Menu' from last year. Great movies but more importantly (?), GREAT reaction material.

Odd Thomas

Well now you HAVE to watch Poltergeist

Opti_Frog

This is a pretty good one-off. The demon shriek early in the movie got me good the first time i watched it. When they tried to repeat it with sequels, and add a bunch of lore, it just became worse and worse. There are alternative endings that are more subtle and creepy, and not as cheesy as the theatrical release. That demon dive towards the camera is just a big eye roll 😄

MasterElodin

I found a YouTube video of a guy recreating some of the special effects in the video. And he did a pretty convincing job with basically 0 budget. I thought the effects were really impressive as well while watching it, especially considering the age and budget of the movie, but apparently humans are just easily fooled lol.

Martin

This movie was a pretty solid representation of the “found footage” genre. But unless you watched The Blair Witch Project on opening night before knowing that it wasn’t an actual documentary, you don’t know what it’s like to feel true fear.

JoeySnowyNoey

You guys need to watch Talk To Me! Just came back from the theater and loved it. YouTubers made the movie. Lol

FranciscoGios

Steven Spielberg convinced the filmmakers to change the original ending. The same knife Micah is holding when you see in the beginning of the movie is the same knife he gets killed in the alternate ending. If you guys feel like watching another horror movie with a “first person view” but there is no demon instead there is……well just watch Quarantine(2008).

Ricardo Alanis

I actually love this franchise for 2 reasons: 1) It’s always a slow-burn and they always find creative ways to expand on the found-footage trope 2) They build the lore/background of the story in good/surprising ways. I actually recommend the entire series if you enjoyed it.

I remember when I was a child trying to sleep, in the middle of the night I woke up and saw a dark shadowy figure at the end of my bed. I woke up screaming and crying, and my parents came to console me and started praying for me (because they were christians). The next day I realized it was just a jacket hanging on the door knob, and my bed had always been facing the door, making it look like a shadowy figure. I dont find paranormal things scary, because I dont believe in it, but I find Im still vunerable to jump scares regardless of the type of film im watching. I find horror films based in reality way more terrifying.

Back around 2004 I impulse bought a tiny $60 USB security camera from Best Buy that came with like 50-100 feet of cable. It had 6 little red LEDs around it, to help illuminate things into the near IR in the dark. I had my PC set up on a desk in my bedroom, and realized I could film myself all night, so I did. The whole 8 hours was about 700MB. I wasn't thinking about ghosts, though. I was hoping I was secretly a superhero who got up, left to fight crime all night, and then returned, forgetting all of it. I wanted to see myself open a secret panel in the wall, full of guns and a super suit. Alas, what I learned was that I turn over to my other side almost exactly every half hour. The only superhero thing I did was use my toes to grab the corner of the blanket that had rolled off me, and kick it into the air in such a way that it parachuted back down perfectly on top of me, all while I was out cold. No ghost stuff, though.

Maureen Henning

You guys should watch Hell House LLC and Prom Night

djKENTO

You might be interested in the chronological edit. It puts the first 3 films in a chronological order so you start with 3, parts of 2 and then 1 and 2 overlap at parts. It’s a very interesting experiment available on itunes.

djKENTO

I was lucky enough to attend Fantastic Fest the year this movie’s final edit was debuted. There had been test screenings with the alternate, worse ending before Spielberg suggested the finale and they reshot it. Going back to my hotel with my fellow journalists and critics we were all bugged out to the point that my room mates didn’t even want to keep talking about it because they were getting freaked out. A room of 5 grown men all like getting creeped out. No other movie had that impact. This was really special at the time.

djKENTO

also this takes place where I live so I have an extra attachment to it.

Jim Frykman

Thanks for not saving all the horror movies for October, folks! I'm not much of a horror fan so it's always a treat to watch one for the first time with you guys!

Jared Winn

You should definitely keep watching (at least the next 2) but do as little research as possible. The less you know about the plot of the next ones, the better.

DeAndrew Greene

It's funny cause I completely get that Micah is unlikable but the girl really is the one who brought the demon into the house lol. Like I personally would have left her but him staying with her through that was something I guess.

Opti_Frog

Spielberg usually have good instincts for movie making, but changing the ending on this movie was a cheesy bad call 😅

Śéáń

When your runtime was different to mine I was worried you had a copy with one of the alternate endings (the one floating around online is better than this theatrical one, in my opinion, but still a great movie overall. Micah's reluctance to call the demonologist is kind of playing on when guys don't want to call in a professional for something like plumbing, etc, as they may find it a bit emascualting in not being able to 'take care of it'. Micah definitely goes a bit far with that though, I'd be on the phone after the first demonic toot. Really love this film, one of the better found footage ones out there, a genre close to my heart.

Dazzler & Em

Definetly should watch the second film and leave the others.

Middy

You should absolutely get around to Lake Mungo at some point. It's presented as an actual documentary rather than purely found footage and while it is scary, it's probably not for the reasons you expect. It's a refreshing, alternate take on the ghost movie genre and there's nothing else quite like it.

Moni Castaneda

Just adding to the consensus... The first 3 are really good, the second and third explain a lot of what happened in the first one... they should have stopped at that... the rest take a nosedive...

Noe Ramirez

I think The Marked Ones is really good! I may be in the minority for that one but I honestly think it's great.

Gary Fixler

George, I believe the worst production company name is [Monty Python's] Terry Gilliam's Poo Poo Pictures Productions Ltd. According to him: "It was designed so lawyers and agents and serious people in suits would have to talk about my company using baby talk." The company produced 2009's The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, which was also directed by Gilliam. This is the company letterhead: https://www.letterheady.com/post/69191091715/poopoo

Jay

On the sequels, they're decent from what I can remember but I'll also say this. We don't get much horror on Cinebinge and there are much better horror films out there than the Paranormal Activity/Saw sequels, and lots of them.

Christopher Shukait

The conjuring movies are a must love those and all the spin offs

Robert Haynes

On the supernatural front... I am an unbeliever during the day. Just completely confident that is all BS. Just don't ask me about it at 2am, or really anytime in the dark in the wilderness. Nothing counts at night, away from civilization, when something strange is splashing in the creek 100ft from where you are camping.

Jonah Bertorelli

I hope you know what you got yourself into. there are 4 in this series. there are like 7 in the franchise, but I'm pretty sure there are four in sequence and then the 3 last ones look like cash grabs and I don't remember or think I've seen them. or at least the last 2. But the first 3-4 are great. Please continue until you find a bad one!!!!!!

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

Took me some time to watch this reaction, the Ouija board is not from Mattel originally but they did use the idea as it is from 1886 and even if is not evil, the idea of using it to call spirits is what makes it dangerous

Grimbane42

Highly recommend the first sequel

Simone's Coconut Squire

Nothing ruins a horror/suspense movie for me like people putting themselves in danger by making unrealistically stupid or obstinate decisions and this one is pretty high on that list for me.

Harry Fieldson

I watched this movie back when I was around 14 years old with a group of friends at this one guy's house. We had been having a party during the evening but by night time everyone but the 5 of us had left. We decided to all squeeze onto his double bed and watch the movie with the lights off. We were obviously terrified as kids who had barely seen any horror. The thing is this bed must have either been really cheap or old because around when things started getting really intense I guess the action of 2 or 3 of us all jumpscaring at once led to the bed collapsing with us all on it.... at 2am, whilst we're watching a paranormal haunted house movie. Nowadays I just look back on it and say we got the 4D experience.
