I still think this was the best movie of 2018, animated or otherwise, and shouldn't just have won Best Animated Picture, but the ACTUAL Best Picture Oscar.

Brian Harris

Into the Spider-Verse is amazing. Across the Spider-Verse is better. All I’ll say is it’s the kind of movie that makes you expand your entire concept of what movies can do. We don’t see many like that these days. Can’t wait for the react.

Best line in any theme song 🎶 is he strong bet you bub , He got radioactive blood, 🎶best version Micheal Bublé

I'm probably in the minority but my fave Spidey is The Amazing Spider-man 2. The music in that film is insane (Hans Zimmer obvs)

In Spiderman: Homecoming, the guy that Peter found peddling alien guns under the bridge mentioned that he had a nephew in the neighborhood. That was canonically "Uncle Aaron". The nephew he was referring to was Miles Morales.

This film is so so good. This reaction makes me so happy.

Phil Lord and Chris Miller are really great film makers and always try to push the limits of film making this is by far the best spiderman movie, personally didn't like where the sequel to this went but still a good movie

Dooly

Spider-Man 2 is the best Spider-Man movie and always will be

Most of the Spider-People in this were from the comics, but not all. It started out with a bunch of Spider-Man versions that were from "What If" comics, alternate universes/alternate futures that the main Spider-Man happened to visit over the years, and "classic Marvel characters reinterpreted" series like Spider-Man: Noir and Spider-Man 2099 (set in a cyberpunk future, which is where Oscar Isaac's cameo at the end is from.) Then Marvel noticed that after decades of this they'd built up dozens of alternate Spider-Men, so they had a big crossover called Spider-Verse. (The plot was very different to this movie, though - only thing in common was having a ton of Spider-Men teaming up.) They made up a bunch more alternate universes for the crossover comic, including a universe where Peter Parker died and Gwen Stacy became Spider-Girl - and that character was a huge hit so they spun her off into her own comic, Spider-Gwen. They also created Peni Parker, the Japanese girl who piloted a spider robot, for that series, but she was very different from the movie version (different backstory and personality, and the robot looked totally different). So ironically, the only Spider-Man who's an "original" character for this movie is Peter B. Parker, because he's not based on a specific alternate version of Peter Parker from the comics. But both Spider-Gwen and Peni Parker were created specifically for a massive Spider-Verse crossover in the comics, while the rest of the characters came naturally over many years of random parodies and time travel stories and such. Miles Morales is from a long-running comic book, Ultimate Spider-Man, which came out just after the first Tobey Maguire movie. Which was exactly what George said - a reboot of Spider-Man, retelling the stories from the beginning, so that people who came on board from the movie had a comic to read that didn't have decades of backstory. (But they kept publishing the main Spider-Man comic, with an older Peter Parker who'd been a hero for years, at the same time. Marvel actually rarely does reboots, that's more DC's thing.) After a decade, Ultimate Spider-Man had its own convoluted backstory so it had lost its main draw of being an easier comic to get into, so they decided to make it very different from the main comics instead. Very similar to the beginning of this movie, "Ultimate" Peter Parker sacrificed himself fighting the Green Goblin and they introduced Miles Morales as the new "Ultimate" Spider-Man. (His uncle being Aaron Davis, the Prowler, was from the Ultimate comic too.) Fun trivia: the writer was inspired to make Miles a black kid by Donald Glover's campaign to be cast as Spider-Man. He never got that, but he had a cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming as a thief named Aaron Davis who mentioned having a nephew who loved Spider-Man. Another fun trivia: the Ultimate version of the Avengers is also where Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury came from. In the main comics, Nick Fury's a white guy, but the Ultimate version of him was drawn to look like Samuel L. Jackson. Without permission, so Jackson sued them for appropriating his likeness, and they settled the lawsuit by giving him first refusal on playing the character of Nick Fury in any movies. While I'm giving fun trivia: Spider-Ham's parody comic also features Deerdevil (and his law firm partner Froggy Nelson), Captain Americat, and Ducktor Doom.

Oh man, Donnie Darko and The Mist are coming soon! So psyched.

George must have had so much fun Photoshopping that Thumbnail. 😁

I hope they will get through Donnie Darko without discussing it too much during the film, as it's one of these things you have to experience first and discuss later. Luckily there is the monthly CineReview, in which lingering thoughts are discussed. I'm also ready for a lukewarm reaction, not everybody can appreciate to be thrown in the deep without a clear way to get out of it. Regardless what they think of it, I'm sure the comment section will be a lively one :)

Maarten Martens

I wish I knew more about all the Spiderman lore, that would have made this film extra fun to watch I think. It was a visual spectacle nonetheless, just like George said, you can pause the film at any moment and you have a perfect wallpaper. Loved the reaction, it's so awesome to see people enjoy a film this much!

7:23-7:27 Well of course, Simone. If we're going to have all these Spider-Men, we're going to need a Spider-census. Ba-dum-tss.

King Pin's ability is technically that he is only about 3% body fat. He looks fat but it's all muscle from spending his youth in prison and just working out every single muscle to its limit every day
