Teyon Alexander

I used to get Lizzy Caplan and Zooey Deschanel confused a lot.

Ricardo Alanis

Psyched for this. Also highly recommend 10 Cloverfield Lane.

Orphan Crippler

The sequels are kind of, sort of, a little bit connected to this movie maybe slightly... hypothetically..

Martin

This is going to be a good reaction.

Jay

This blew me away when I saw it on the big screen in 2008, then I watched it a few years ago and really wasn't feeling it. That guy with the camera is so irritating, one of my least favourite movie characters ever. But I think 10 Cloverfield Lane is phenomenal!

Foodassassin4life

You can actually see when the monster arrives at the end when they're on the ferris wheel and he's pointing the camera at the ocean you can see something fall from the sky into the ocean around that area where that cruise liner is passed it in the distance

JoshG

The sequels are so good!

Spacedone

We can't really describe what 10 Cloverfield Lane is about without spoilers, other than to say it's somewhat different from the original movie. Definitely worth a watch though. The Cloverfield Paradox is one for CineCringe.

iOmegaTron

I don't think anybody noticed the first time they watched it, but it looks like you guys missed two very small, but very important things at the end of he movie. As Foodassassin4life mentioned, you can see the monster fall from the sky into the ocean in the background of the Ferris Wheel footage. Also, after he credits there's a blip of audio that plays two different messages. "Help us" when played normally, but "It's still alive" when played backwards. Here's a clip of that audio: https://youtu.be/zBHjgej9jp8

iOmegaTron

Also, I definitely think the other two movies are worth a watch!

Doug Shore

I love monster movies. But what made Cloverfield so god was it was a breath of fresh air. It isn't some evil monster causing death and destruction in pursuit of some goal. It was just an animal that was lost and confused. It didn't kill and destroy because it was evil. It was lashing out because it was afraid. And there wasn't a bunch of people coming up with a super special way to defeat it. You just had the army rush in to try and drive it off. And you don't learn it's origins. It just shows up.

My_Cousin_Mose

Whenever I preface a story with "it happened years ago" it usually means that it happened last week.

WastedPo

I really love "10 Cloverfield Lane." However, I always wish it was titled differently. By seemingly indicating it's a direct follow-up to Cloverfield (which it isn't), the viewer is prompted to continually second-guess the way the plot unfolds, rather than appreciating it on its own merits.

Nicodemus Archleone

10 Cloverfield Lane is certainly worth a watch but it's not really a sequel. It's been a while since I've seen it but I don't think the events of this film are even mentioned. If they are it's only tangentially and have no bearing on the plot. Also, as an aside. Great detail about the monster in this film is that it's supposedly an infant that's been somehow separated from its mother. It's not attacking so much as panicking. Re-watching, I'm almost sympathetic with it.

James Hadden

Great reaction as always guys, really enjoyed watching this again. I would guess most people who’ve seen 10 Cloverfield Lane would recommend watching it. Either way, I’d definitely recommend it. Can’t say anything about the third movie, I chose to pass on that one after watching the trailer.

REDR58

For something a bit different but also a monster movie, check out “Monsters” from 2010 directed by Gareth Edwards (who went on to do 2014’s “Godzilla”).

JayF

10 Cloverfield Ln was good. I never saw the other one.

Viktor M

Cloverfield is fine, but i thing that Underwater from 2020 is a far better monster movie. Underwater has better production design, passing, a nice twist in the middle and is as far too underrated in my opinion. By the way i dont think, that Cloverfield has anything to do with 9.11, its more a cash grab on the kaiju genre o_O But great reaction as always ;)

Cincassette

10 Cloverfield Lane is amazing and definitely worth watching. It was the first of the franchise I watched and I went in completely blind, which made it even better.

Martin Nicholls

Ah Cloverfield, the only found footage movie of any value to society. Fite me :) The two sequels are worth watching, but the next in the series (10 Cloverfield Lane) is definitely a *must* watch - worth pointing out they're *entirely* different movies set in the same universe (though arguably all JJ Abrams produced movies are in the JJ universe, including the Star Treks). Surprised Simone didn't recognize John Gallagher Jr by name, for I have my reasons (he's main cast - and really good - in a Sorkin project). But yeah you should totally just watch 10 Cloverfield at some point then I guess put Paradox in a poll maybe, if you want a suggestion. We're supposed to be getting a new Cloverfield movie at some point.. Teaser trailer for 10 Cloverfield was *so* good, I remember the hype at the time..

ShadowStunts

Definitely should watch Cloverfield Lane. Paradox you should skip though.

Jeff I.

As others have said, 10 Cloverfield Lane is a definite must watch at some point, but it's not a sequel or really even related to anything that happens in this movie beyond both movies taking place in the same universe, so to speak. Just a head's up to not go into with any assumptions based on this one.

Onno Smits

10 Cloverfield Lane is great. I've never seen the Paradox one. The marketing for this movie when it first came out was really good. I watched it in theatres knowing very little about what I was about to walk into. It was a blast! It did make me motion sick though. Same now on the rewatch. Too much camera movement I guess? I had the same on Captain Phillips (2013) and Hardcore Henry (2015). Two wildly different movies, but recommended all the same. 😅

Odd Thomas

This and Blair Witch were great 'event' movies where you didn't really know what the movie would be until you actually saw it. Nowadays every film has ten trailers and you know everything a year before it's even out. We need more mystery back in movie marketing.

Odd Thomas

George, there's a great comedy series called A Touch of Cloth, from the UK. Karen Gillan's in it too!

Odd Thomas

TJ Miller is a POS; google the train incident

Odd Thomas

You'd enjoy Spielberg's War of the Worlds; it's perhaps even more 9/11 inspired than Cloverfield imo, made in 2005

Martin

I saw Blair Witch in a movie theater two days after it opened. My friends and I thought it was a documentary. Needless to say, I didn’t sleep at all that night.

Prof. Writhms

No horrifying scene in this movie could equal the terror of George's poop story. My condolences, George. 🤣

George, If you were with me, you wouldn't be here in this strip club shaking it for dollar bills!

🖤10 Cloverfield Lane is the next in the franchise and also worth a watch. As you do by default, go in as blind as possible. I remember the marketing for this movie was brilliant. The trailers and movie posters gave away almost nothing, there were cool easter eggs online fans could dig up, and those websites explained so much of the lore happening behind the scenes that didn't really make it into the movie (so basically just EU stuff for hardcore fans who wanted to dig). Here's an Easter egg you can go back and find actually in the movie. At the end there is footage of Rob and Lily on the train overlooking the ocean, if you look closely you can see a satellite falling into the water. That was deliberate for all the previously mentioned hardcore fans to notice and know the meaning of.

Michael Paterson

Hi people , new to patreon ... Could anybody give me advice the best way to watch the patreon / split screen version on either android phone or fire stick ... Thx very much :)

Chase Lonnergan

"Light Speed Ugly"... That's my new dating profile tagline. Gruesomely accurate. Lol.

FranciscoGios

That’s actually a satellite, this monster didn’t came from above but from a different dimension inside this earth 1.

FranciscoGios

‘Heads-up Display’ that’s his name Hud lol. This monster was a baby looking for his mother, he was separated while traveling thru a warp and landed thru this earth in water not sky. You can see an object falling to the ocean when Rob shows us the Ferris Wheel almost at the beginning of the movie but it’s actually a satellite.

DM DC

Those two movies are definately worth watching. Highly recommend both.

joejud1017

George you're a pretty good story teller. Didn't want to have that visual but you are talented.

Opti_Frog

The hype around this movie was unreal. That first viral trailer, that didn't even have a movie title - just a release date, made a large portion of the internet lose its collective mind. 10 Cloverfield Lane might actually be an even better film, but The Cloverfield Paradox is god awful. Surprisingly it didn't kill the whole franchise, because a fourth film is in development, supposedly a genuine sequel to the first. Both Lane and Paradox were re-writes of existing original scripts that were completely unconnected to the first Cloverfield movie. I've always been a bit uneasy about that, like forcing something into a franchise. It worked really well with Lane though, but not at all with Paradox.

Brant

As a lot of other people have said, 10 Cloverfield Lane is really good and worth watching, Cloverfield Paradox isn’t terrible, just entirely forgettable and not really worth a reaction.

William Moffett

I know it's a movie, but in 100% survival mode the last thing I'm doing is going on a suicide mission to save my ex-gf.

Jorge Lopez

I agree with most people. 10 Cloverfield Lane is worth checking out. Different style of filmmaking/storytelling, and it's directed by Dan Trachtenberg - who used to co-host a fun movie/tv/game review show called The Totally Rad Show. He also most recently directed Prey, which was great. The third movie in this series can probably be skipped though. It wasn't worth watching, IMO.

warcrimes

Has nobody mentioned the day at Coney Island portion of the tape shows something landing in the ocean at the end.

djKENTO

Okay so Cloverfield is a code name for the movie that became the movie’s name. It has a meaning beyond that now, but at the time this movie was literally a total mystery. When they first debuted’ the trailer it didn’t even have the name. It was just part of the party scene up to when the head lands in the street and then the release date. And it was like a month away. Nobody had heard about this movie, knew anything about it, and then BOOM it was there. They had a huge ARG online that told more backstory of the characters, filled in some JJ Abrams lore like the name Kelvin and Slusho drink which is in JJ’s TV series Alias and is even in the Star Trek film from 2009. I just googled Slusho to see if the old website is still up… It’s not… IT’S A NEW SITE THAT JUST LAUNCHED RECENTLY! This means we might be getting more Cloverfield soon!

Logan Kerlee

Awesome reaction!! Super enjoyed watching this with you both. Excellent ass movie that received so much criticism when this came out. I haven't seen the sequels but after rewatching this I'm all for it. I'll be voting for the sequels! I got so many flashbacks of watching Godzilla while watching this. This is a quality monster movie!

Ricardo Alanis

They definitely did a lot of work for people who were interested in the lore. The Slusho! shirt Rob’s brother was wearing had a fake website tied to the company that Rob was going to Japan to work for and it also was referenced in the TV show Fringe that Abrams also produced. You guys missed at the end of the credits there is a garbled voiced and if you play it backwards there’s a message.

WastedPo

Please, when/if you watch "10 Cloverfield Lane," just forget about the title. It's a standalone story that doesn't even take place in the same universe as the first Cloverfield. If you let yourself get distracted, looking for connections to the first movie that don't really exist, then it will take away from the experience of "Lane."

REDR58

They should probably watch the Original “The War of the Worlds” from 1953 first for some classic sci-fi!

sarCC

Yay! Now you can watch 10 CLOVERFIELD LANE! Not that you couldn't before, but nonetheless. It's an excellent movie with a couple of the best performances this century.

REDR58

Decapitated Statue of Liberty reminds me of the movie poster for “Escape From New York” which shows the statue’s head somehow laying in the middle of the city.

804Media

The waters get muddied further when you come across suggestions that Abrams was connected to a Half-Life universe film, and that "Lane" was part of it. Sounds like people back-filling to connect disjointed ideas, but it's an interesting take at least.

804Media

I'd watch "Lane" again, but for sure "Paradox" is forgettable. That ending was complete trash for a host of reasons.

Jacob King

Okay, I saw this in the cinema (it was great, sound design was awesome) and my memory of why it was called Cloverfield is because it needed a title that wouldn’t attract any attention from early 2000s movie bloggers and leakers. JJ Abrams was at his peak coolness and it’s related to his mystery box theory of storytelling ie. keeping the audience in the dark. Cloverfield is a completely meaningless title so when it was announced that Cloverfield was coming out those pesky internet people didn’t go and work out the plot and spoilers. The Cloverfield franchise is an anthology series and it works on the opposite principle. By sticking the name Cloverfield on a low budget sci-fi horror it will attract attention. If you want a good monster eating people POV style movie then I can’t recommend Nope highly enough. With all due respect to Kong: Scull Island, Nope is the best monster movie since Cloverfield. I think I’ve recommended Bad Times at The El Royale before but after The Martian, Cloverfield and Cabin in the Woods it’s the number one Drew Goddard movie.

Deano

The bit with the army right behind them was incredible sound design

Darin Foat

When I saw this in the theater there were four 12 year old kids sitting in the row in front of me. They were the perfect audience to see this with. They screamed their heads off at everything. It was great.

Jim Frykman

I would have never expected that George was a man of the cloth.

Scott G

IMO 10 Cloverfield Lane is even better than this. Definitely add to your list.

Simone's Coconut Squire

I was drawn to this movie because I used to have recurring nightmares that were basically just like this, where I'd be in a city in the middle of of a giant monster attack, and I'd have to run for safety but would never actually see the monster, the the effect of it's rampage. The second movie is also amazing and the third got more hate than it deserved I think.
