Anthony Harris

One of the greatest films of all time...

Niklas Ericsson

If you liked this, you should watch Thief.

Zero Cochrane

I love this film. The dinner scene is one of the greatest of all time.

Jack Urmson

👏👏👏🤣🤣🤣 That pic! Perfect 👍👍

FaceMustache

Hell yeah Heat! This movie is so goddamn good.

Matthew Johnson

The thumbnail alone made my weekend. Y’all are brilliant.

Joe Williams

So glad we got this😊. An all-time favourite for me. Crime films don't come much better.

Jeff K

Can we get a poll going for whether George or Simone is actually “CineMommy”?

BantaClaus

Woah I literally just watched this for the first time yesterday. Nice timing lol

mojo shivers

Ooh. This is a good one. The action scenes are fraught with tension and just seem super long but in a good way, following the action where others would cut away. Also, the scenes where Pacino and Deniro just play verbal cat and mouse are still chilling. Two masters at work.

PastaDon

"I'd love to see Whoopi Goldberg walk in with like, a pink suit on" 😄😄😅... that was awesome timing 😁

Jeff K

Michael Mann is the absolute master of atmospheric, long, wordless scenes set to music. He was the show runner and "dominant creative force" on Miami Vice, which had a pilot that, and I mean this with zero hyperbole, changed television forever in large part thanks to a long driving sequence set to "In the Air Tonight." He also did the movie Manhunter (the first Hannibal Lecter film to be made, with Brian Cox as Lecter in a relatively minor role), and the climax to that movie also has an absolutely EPIC music scene. The climax in Last of the Mohicans is set to a piece from that movie's original score, but it's gorgeous and badass (and the music from that scene, for any runners out there, is a PERFECT song to add to your running playlist; it's been on mine for years and isn't going anywhere).

PIG

OOooooh. Now I get it.

Jim Howe

Simone, if you like Val Kilmer in this then you're going to LOVE him in 'Top Secret'.

Jeff K

I love that movie so very much. Wild that it was his first film.

Jobbe Smit

Glad CineMommy loved the movie. It's truly a masterpiece.

Sam C

One of the reasons for all of the subplots is because it was developed as a TV series. Mann eventually filmed a made-for-TV movie version called ‘LA Takedown’ which can be found on YouTube, and then made it again into Heat. Also, for a great breakdown of the bank robbery shootout, see the Michael Mann episode of HBO Max series ‘One Perfect Shot’ in which he breaks down what went into that scene.

GDC

The diner scene in this movie was one of the most anticipated movie scenes ever before it came out and it lived up to the hype. DeNiro and Pacino had spent the past two decades building themselves up as the best two actors of their generation but had never acted together before. So this first time for it was so hyped up.

GDC

Also, Hanna had been written as having a coke problem so that played a part in how Pacino portrayed him. Then that context got cut from the movie so it looks like he's being a little zany just for the sake of it lol.

GDC

Even though Neil followed the 30-second rule by walking away from Edie, he was already cooked because he violated it by not being able to walk away from Waingro and get on the plane having evaded the police. We learned the attachments to avoid weren't just about love, but hate as well.

Jason McCloud

I didn't know I needed CineMommy in my vocabulary but here I am and I'm not mad about it. This movie is fantastic on so many levels, glad you both really enjoyed it.

Pam Nail

The scene between DeNiro and Pacino was SUCH a huge deal at the time, because here were these two titans of acting who'd never been in a scene together -- they were both in Godfather 2, obviously, but never on screen together.

James Falato

Dear George... When you said "Father and Son!" at the last scene, did you do it as a Subtle nod to the fact that Robert De Niro played Vito Corleone,, the Father of Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino?!?

Andrew

One of the best gunfights in movie history.

Mike Minerals

Literally thought you'd used the wrong thumbnail at first... "I don't remember a donkey in this movie...?"

Mister Forbez

For more Michael Mann magic may I mention 'The Last of the Mohicans'

Robert da Spruce

Lol Took me a second to figure out why there was an ass in the thumbnail! 🤣

David Nesbit

Now for all of you that didn’t know, Michael Mann wrote a sequel ( Book ) Heat 2. The book continues where the movie ended, then it backtracks to Chicago and describes how DeNiro’s crew started working together and explains their motives. Also Pacino’s story is further filled out. Yes Michael Mann is planning on filming the book.

redddfer44

If it's any consolation, Simone: Al and Bob are great friends in this life.

Kris

The gunfight outside the bank is actually used as training material by the US Military to this day. It's such a great example of how to move under fire while supporting your teammates that both the Marines and Army will show it as a demonstration to infantrymen.

Echoes Of Malachor

whomever the armorer was for this movie really knew what they were doing. The weapon choices for each particular circumstance are spot on

MPH

As a trained gunfighter, I agree. I've never seen anything more legit in a movie.

Asa Leon Barber

He didn't, though. He takes 42 seconds to leave her, from the time the firetruck gets his attention to when he starts running. Too long.
