UPDATE: when I made this poll I didnt include Band of Brothers because I was having a hard time finding subtitles for it. I've finally found it and I am thinking to include it into the shooting schedule I have with my dad coming up. I want to mention that its only going to be 4 days and I will try to do all 10 episodes during those 4 days with him, plus a couple of movies from this list. Again, I will do my best to prioritize base on highest vote, but for now I cannot guarantee how many we can go through just simply due to time and back aches from sitting so long. Not to mention I really dont want my dad to spend his ENTIRE cooped up at my house. I could be wrong but I feel like given the choice, the show Band of Brothers is likely most desirable for a lot of you? please voice your opinions if that is not the case.

-----------------------------------------

Hi folks! George here, my dad is flying in next week for a short visit and we plan to do a few more episodes together since the last one was so well received. I've compiled a list of movies, but I have no idea how many we can actually realistically film, so I want to see which ones to prioritize first via a vote. On this list you will find a mixture of war movies and films around food/restaurants since my dad is a veteran but career wise is a restaurateur/chef. Just to be clear, this isn't a usual poll where the top 1-2 gets watched, I'm going to try to get ALL of it done, but I am not sure if there will be enough time so this poll is to Prioritize the list.

There you go, the ultimate reason to vote Chef

Zach McBride

Awesome! Loved the first video you did with him! Look forward to the rest!

Onno Smits

Well this sounds like the perfect opportunity to vote for Chef (2014)!

Boyan Konov

Burnt is not a classic by any means but it is considered one of the best representations of that haute cuisine world ever made

Martin

Regarding your dad being a chef, binging The Bear would have been a great idea too. I think he would really enjoy that show.

GnolRevilo

I'm torn between wanting one or two of these films to win or hoping they don't get picked so you and Simone react to it one day.

David Lengyel

I wish We Were Soldiers was on the shortlist, but there's already a bunch of great movies anyway. Looking forward to dad's reaction. Hope he's gonna wear CB merch too, lol

R. Chang

We’ve already seen him react to a war movie so I’m pushing for chef. Not only is it a great movie that really gets into the world of being a chef but it’s also a father/son story.

Jeff K.

Chef is literally about a chef and his son bonding over cooking. Gotta include that.

pretzels4wetzel

Chef is one of my all time favorite movies and as much as I’d like for you to see it with Simone. Id love for you to see it with your dad.

Lola Lirola

(Just letting you know that it only lets you (or at least, me) vote for one option; when I tried voting for a second movie, it just changed my one vote to that!)

Jon Johns

OMG! I love when you & dad react!!! This is gonna be great 🥰😊

PastaDon

After reading your message George and knowing a little bit of background.. Chef 100% imo..

Miles E Coburn

I would also suggest as an option for a military movie, "Taking Chance" (2009), starring Kevin Bacon. I've always bristled at "Full Metal Jacket" being included in movies about the military as it's a decidedly anti-military movie.

Liam Nissan

Fury and Chef would be the dream..

Red Freckle

Your old man was a tanker.. tank... man right George? Schindler's List and FMJ are must watches at some point but Fury is the one your dad would have the most personal insight on. Fucking recommending the film most likely to bring back an old(ish) man's bad memories seems very cruel, I'm sorry for that.

mpd

Hopefully you have some other fun activities planned for your dad's trip, because this list is pure depression

Mo's Not Mortal

Schindler’s list is a war movie? I’m so uncultured.

JayF

Awww. I was really hoping Hacksaw Ridge would be a thing you and Simone did together. I'd still enjoy a reaction with your dad for it but I hope that doesn't mean it gets shuffled way down to the bottom of the list for a reaction with Simone. Edit - Also, TBH, I'd think some of these are not going to be easy reactions for you and your dad. The Great Escape (1963) would have been a great choice for this list. The Sand Pebbles (1966) (which I've already mentioned to you) or Empire of the Sun (1987) would have been good as well.

Philipp Roensch

Fury should be more relatable to your dad, but these are all emotional.

Paul Hawthorne

I must admit that I find it a bit disheartening that The Thin Red Line has such few votes. I don’t think people know what they are missing.

David N

George has talked about working in a resturaunt growing up; I assume his dad had a part in that too. A movie about a dad and son recconnecting over food would be perfect people! Chef would at least be better than one of the saddest nazi movies ever.

E.P.B.F.

*looks at list* [Bad Simone imitation voice]: Jeezus George. I know your dad's a vet, but hasn't been the poor man through enough trauma irl. This almost feels like cinematic elder abuse.

Mikebdrx

Fury is so good. I wish we could get Simone in on that one.

Mati D.

If he was in a tank unit, he needs to watch Fury, is kinda a must for his experience.

Gryff

Damn, top half of that list is an emotional roller coaster for me, and I'm not even a war veteran who was in a tank unit. That being said. Hacksaw Ridge will instill hope in humanity, Chef is just a good movie, and Fury is a must see for his circumstances in my humble opinion.

Ian West

Empire of the Sun would have been a great option to include - WW2 film, set in China, directed by Spielberg, starring a very young Christian Bale.

MPH

No bad choices, but I would choose Dunkirk. Please react to that one soon.

Alex Ch

I ended up voting for Fury and Chef as the best fits. Plenty of good stuff on the list though.

Gaius Frakking Baltar

The entertainingly absurd Steven Seagal movie "Under Siege" should be on this list - it's about a Navy cook who fights against a group of terrorists that take over a USN battleship. The ultimate food/war combo!

TomGas2025

Oh boy...schindler's list...tough cookie that one. In Germany when I went to school this was required to watch by the curiculum in History and Ethics classes when the topics WW2 and Nazi Regimes had to be handled. It's sad that these MoFos screwed up Germany and Germans are still punched in the face by that...even after almost 80 years...

gfixler

George's dad flies in; George queues up 18 hours of movies. :-D This is gonna be epic.

Raul Panzar

If you're doing restaurant movies, I highly suggest Big Night.

Armchair Rizzard

Chef is honestly super underrated. I hope it gets seen for sure.

JoeNotCharles

I know you're really unlikely to add another entry to the poll, but you should watch the Nicholas Cage movie Pig. It's got a surprising amount about the restaurant industry and it's not at all the performance you're expecting from Nic Cage.

ChickensAreRacist

Originally included Schindler’s list but as I’m seeing Simone react to it, I’m retracting it and am sorry she was compelled to watch it for us to see her reaction.

Cubonemaker

I’m always down for another rewatch of Band of Brothers.

Ian Forbes

Band of Brothers would be my top choice for sure!

DonkyDave

Surely The Pacific would be better given that China was part of the conflict?

YoureMrLebowski

as much as i love BoB, i would prefer you watch 4 or 5 of the movies simply because of time constraints.

Bryan Moriarty

Sorry if this is a hot take, but I don't think Schlinder's List should ever be a reaction video. It seems wrong to me. Don't get me wrong. It is a movie that should definitely be seen, but not for the entertainment value of a reaction video. That seems to cheapen the message of the film, in my opinion. If really want to create content on it, maybe have a discussion about it after viewing.

Florian

Maybe for a later moment I'm throwing in "All quite on the Western Front (Im Westen nichts neues)". German Oscar winning movie from 2022, treating the western front in world war one.

Robb

Kinda want Hacksaw Ridge to do poorly I wanna see Simone react to it

lovemoose

Yes watch band of brothers!!

Lola Lirola

I will be perfectly fine with whatever the majority says, but I personally would go for more movies rather than BoB. (Especially if that means we get a more lightherted one like Chef amongst all the gutwrenching ones.)

Foodassassin4life

I think Band of Brothers is a great show but like you said I don't think you and your dad should be cooped up the whole time he's there so you should just do one or two of the listed movies

Michael Haug

I'm watching the original upload of BoB you guys did right now. But, nothing else on the poll really strikes a coed, so sure.

Onno Smits

I'd prefer you do a couple of the movies, rather than Band of Brothers. Allows you to spend more time with your dad without the camera rolling as well. Up to you whether that's a good thing... 😅 Chef (2014) sounds like the perfect choice here to not get sucked into war/death/despair exclusively.

Travis Starnes

Yes, band of brothers. A definite much watch.

JayF

George, I'll DM you with this as well to make sure you see it but a good solution would be just to watch "We Stand Alone Together" which is the documentary about Easy Company (the guys that BoB is about.). That documentary is directly tied to the show, was included in the DVD set for the series. It's obviously much shorter than the full show would be. Plus you never reacted to it and I'd love to see that.

UsedFishing

If you can do it, Band of Brothers is one of the best series ever put to screen

AC10

All of them??? I enjoyed the with dad watch along so much... I'm happy for anything more at this point.

Simonsays

Definitely Band of Brothers. After Saving Private Ryan i think your dad would really like it and have some great insights Also i just love Chef, that would be a good one to break up the bleak war movies. Burnt isnt bad but Chef is definitely the better movie imo

streaky

It aint gonna win, but Burnt: if you know, you know. Also: don't overwork your dad, lol.

Hollis Hamilton

Band of Brothers would be my choice over the movies. If you do movies, Fury and Chef would be a good pair, since he served in a tank company and he works in the food industry.

Jeff K.

Hell yes Band of Brothers. Arguably the greatest miniseries ever made. EDIT: I completely forgot George and Simone have already reacted to that. I’m down with George introducing it to his dad of course, though it is a 10 hour endeavor, and not sure how long his dad will be visiting.

Erika Rangel

Band of brothers would be my first choice for sure.

Brandon Meng

I would say Chef but I want Simone to see that as well. Schindler's List or Band of Brothers is next best imo.

Cavatica

The Thin Red Line is BY FAR the best film on this list. In fact it's the only one on there that I would call a true masterpiece. Full Metal Jacket is excellent but not at the same level. And even though it's not on the list, Paths Of Glory is Kubrick's best war film, which is the film The Wire was inspired by, funnily enough, as a depiction of the corruption and conflicts of interest inherent in institutions. Too many war films are just Hollywood versions of ye old tales of heroes and noble quests. Which of course is going to be more popular. The Thin Red Line, apart from being an incredible work of art, is a film that shows reality, and the full spectrum of that reality. It is simultaneously spiritual and grounded, beautiful and ruthless, poetic and brutal.

Jim Finley

Agreed on Band of Brothers. As a retired Marine, I'd say it might add too much time to what you have to work with, but it would be powerful to include The Pacific as well. Like Band of Brothers, it depicts the experiences of real people, in its case centered on three Marines who fought in that theater, two of whom wrote superb autobiographical books about it after the war. If my stepfather, who served overseas in World War II, were still with us (and if he were willing to watch them - he preferred avoiding the subject and almost couldn't make it through the opening of Saving Private Ryan) I'd just go with Band of Brothers and The Pacific.

Jobbe Smit

BoB is a great series but alongside the war movies a bit much. George also has already seen it. That makes me tilt it a little in favor of the movies. Maybe throw a war comedy in there too? This is some hard stuff at times.

Gary Trousdale

If your dad was a tanker, Fury seems to be a natural. I’d take Schindler’s List off. Great movie that I could only watch once, and really has very little to do with your dad’s experience (other than war is hell). I recommend the series “The Bear” if your dad is a restaurateur.

Jeff I.

I'd rather see another movie or two than BoB, to be honest. I think your dad would particularly enjoy seeing Fury, since it's about a team of tank operators and much of the movie even takes place inside a tank.

tim honigs

My only problem with BoB, is that it's 10 hours of watching, plus an additional 15 min/episode of chat/reminiscing/etc. Basically, 5 movies. I'm sure George's dad will be back, and then you can concentrate on BoB. (I love BoB, but with the movies, you can more selection, and variety)

sarCC

I do consider Band Of Brothers (as well as The Pacific and Generation Kill) to be better than any war movies I've ever seen (except maybe some of Kurosawa's films...and Laurence Of Arabia), so I vote for prioritizing it.

Happy Hanukkah

I'm most likely to watch a Band of Brothers reaction, but I'm dubious if it's preferable to watch (or burn out on) one TV show instead of several movies. Anyhow, I don't have strong feelings about this poll; George, enjoy your father's visit.

TokyoLopez

i can’t choose, so many options

JFC

I'm kinda surprised Full Metal jacket is winning. How do you even translate, "grab-asstic pieces of amphibian shit"? I'd rather see a Band of Brothers reaction first and foremost. Fury is a tough watch, and might be even tougher for your dad.

Alan Kobb

George-- I hope I'm not overstepping, but speaking as a dad, I'm sure your dad would watch a whole bunch of episodes if you ask him, but I think he'd rather spend some more quality time with his son. Take him out for some great food and a nice walk, doing other things that you enjoy with him and maybe spend a few evenings watching great movies. I hope you really enjoy your time with your Dad.

sheriffjt

Full Metal Jacket is my favorite of the Vietnam War films (I mean it's Kubrick), but Band of Brothers is also amazing

Robert Cooper

You obviously want to watch Chef. It's a great movie. Just watch it. ;)

Chris Gronau

I would absolutely go for Band of Brothers over any of the movies listed here. It's an all-time classic. Having said that, your father should probably get the biggest vote....

Scotty Grant

The movie, "Waiting" is the closest representation to the culture of debauchery that I experienced while working at non-corporate restaurants in the 90's. It's also hilarious. It's a Ryan Reynolds comedy that mostly focuses on the serving staff, but the kitchen crew are definitely part of the Shenanigans! Solidly, quotable cult comedy.

Jean-Dominic Lapointe

Schindler’s List is a very rough one, but I think everyone should see it at least once

Troy Ross

I want to see George and his dad react to Fury. His military background with tanks will add a whole new layer.

NOT Chase Lonergan

From the list I put full metal jacket but if given the chance I'd say Band of Brothers most in favor of. I think your dad will really enjoy seeing the commentary they have in the episodes from the soldiers that took part and it's based on.

iFixSAN

I’m a simple man. I will never not vote for Full Metal Jacket.

Jacob King

Chef is a dad movie and a food movie. The watch with your dad format would be perfect.

crazymonkey0518 .

Why is fury not number one, his dad was a tanker?? It’s the obvious choice

Rooster Aleution

Schindler's List is an incredible film, but do you really want to make your father depressed for the rest of his visit? It's a film you can't unsee and takes a while to work through the emotions brought up by it.

GBmain

Fury, please. It's perfect for his experience in a tank crew... come on guys don't let me down here, vote with your head.. edit: forgot to add, yes Band of Brothers would be great

Dazzler & Em

Jusy to quickly agree with some of the comments. Spend time with your dad, no need to overload with films and shows.

Garin

Honestly even if you react to just 1, that's more than enough. Family comes first

Joshua DeRoode

I joined this channel after seeing you and your dad watch Saving Private Ryan. I lost my own dad to the Vietnam War and I would have loved to sit down, watch a movie and hear his stories. A father is a great gift and I enjoyed seeing the two of you share that. I would have voted for We Were Soldiers too.

Midgey_M

Band of brothers would be a definite yes but also definitely just spend some time with your dad

Cubonemaker

I would prefer to see Simone’s reaction to Hacksaw with you as well.

Martin

Lol, Full Metal Jacket ALWAYS wins.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

wait....I could have sworn they had watched Parasite but can't find it..has it really not been done on the channel?

Wyatt Nuxoll

Man , I was hopeful that the lost battalion would be on this poll😒 , anyway all these films are great , and your dad would like all of them , however Fury is a movie that your dad could relate to the most . Fury is a must watch for your dad , but man it is gruesome . Whatever you decide to do George you really can't lose watching any of these

DonkyDave

wow just saw the original video with George's Dad reacting to Saving Private Ryan reached 1 million views! Insane!

Torsten Maekler

Here are some new films for your list: a) Victoria (2015) with Laila Costa # Crime, Thriller b) The Wave (2008) with Juergen Vogel, # Drama, Thriller c) Before the Fall (2004) with Max Riemelt # Drama, Thriller, War d) Rush (2013) with Chris Hemsworth # Biography, Sport

Will

I'm not sure showing a movie about PTSD and the psychological torment of war, is a great suggest for a war vet. (full metal jacket)

Cavatica

Some exemplary and intelligent films about war and its effects on people (no schlock, 1 per director, only modern warfare): Rescue Dawn by Werner Herzog (2006) Everything Is Illuminated by Liev Schreiber (2005) The Weeping Meadow by Theo Angelopoulos (2004) The Thin Red Line by Terrence Malick (1998) Regeneration by Gillies MacKinnon (1997) Come and See by Elem Klimov (1985) Das Boot by Wolfgang Petersen (1981) The Big Red One: The Reconstruction by Samuel Fuller (1980, 2004) Apocalypse Now by Francis Ford Coppola (1979) M*A*S*H by Robert Altman (1970) Patton by Franklin J. Schaffner (1970) Shame by Ingmar Bergman (1968) Ivan's Childhood by Andrei Tarkovsky (1962) Paths of Glory by Stanley Kubrick (1957) The Bridge on the River Kwai by David Lean (1957) Grand Illusion by Jean Renoir (1937) Battleship Potemkin by Sergei Eisenstein (1925)

Crystal

i'd like to offer the movie "Stripes" if it hasn't already been suggested, as an antidote to Full Metal Jacket or really anything on your list. give your dad a lil bit of levity!

Who Are These People

How about something that isn't more infantry combat? Does your dad like history? Maybe Apollo 13, the Imitation Game, Hunt for Red October, Titanic or Master and Commander, Les Miserables (Liam Neeson version is my favorite), or something like that.
