Tay Schumaker

Night went through some weird backlash as his movies started to go down hill. But for me, there is something about his first few that I really adore. From Sixth Sense through Lady in the Water, those movies have some quality that really gets me. There are for sure flaws, and I get why people turned on him in later years. This movie has some fantastic performances and some great scenes. Excited to see how it plays for you.

djKENTO

I took my mom to see this opening night. We looove scary movies. She grabbed my arm so tightly that she left bruises. Still adore this movie. Can’t wait.

Hernani

Cool d'apprendre le français, j'imagine que c'est compliqué pour les non natifs. Par contre je ne comprends pas trop la prononciation de Simone. Anyway not my favorite M Night but i'll still watch it.

Roby J

You guys should do Lady in the Water soon. It's one if my favorites and Paul Giamatti is wonderful as always.

Michael Robayo

Man, I think the best part of this video was Simone speaking french at the beginning LOL

djKENTO

putting my replies during the reaction here: First up? The Happening. CINECRINGE MATERIAL! Yes The Happening is a bad movie… BUT… the happening is one of the most watchable films I’ve ever seen. It’s so bonkers that you can’t look away. Like a train wreck in a tornado in a thunderstorm while nukes hail from the sky levels of holy shit what the fuck is happening BONKERS. I would LOVE a reaction to this.

Astraeos

Can't wait to get back from work to watch this one!

Jacob King

The happening is fun bad. Mark Wahlberg plays a science teacher.

Will Moffett

This movie is really good until you realize an interstellar race of aliens who is deadly susceptible to water, lands on a planet that's 70% water.

MJH

All nieces and nephews here are happy to enjoy another reaction with Uncle George and Aunty Simone. Fuiyoh!

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Okay can we admit it's a really well made suspenseful movie with a REALLY stupid twist, and these have to be the dumbest aliens ever? Who comes to a planet, basically 70% acid to you, not to mention the acid that forms in clouds, in an intergalactic vehicle... and doesn't think to bring a suit? Just saying. I like the movie, I love it up to that last five minutes, then I do get a little infuriated lol. That said, I choose to suspend disbelief and just enjoy some great performances by the entire cast, a brilliant musical score, and a director masterfully building suspense.

Cavatica

It occurred to me that you guys have never done a reaction to Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978), which stars both Leonard Nimoy and Jeff Goldblum, and is arguably the best sci-fi horror movie ever made, even though it predates films such as The Thing and Alien. Maybe you've seen it already, but if not, please consider it.

Tiago Borges

Fun fact: The scene of the alien at the birthday party is based on "real history." An alien was allegedly seen at a birthday party in Passo Fundo in Brazil, a few days after several people allegedly saw UFOs flying in the city skies. So this was basically a shoutout from M N H F Shamalaya to Brazil. Now it's time for Cinebing to do the same by watching City of God.

Will Moffett

Btw George, the former Minister of Defense of Canada has openly said that we have been in contact with no less than 3 different species of Aliens. Whether you believe him or not is up to you, but it's definitely not just an American thing.

Mati D.

When i saw this movie as a kid I shat my pants...

Jacob King

Roman Catholic priests are the ones that can’t get married. Protestants can (it was one of the issues that led to the reformation). Mel is playing an Episcopalian, part of the Church of England founded be Henry the Eighth so that he could divorce his wife. Celibacy was never part of the Orthodox (Eastern) priesthood and only became an absolute rule in Catholicism around 1000 CE.

8bitAndy

M. Night Shyamalan was the biggest deal in Hollywood leading up to this movie. A very young director having just given us The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, people were already anointing him as one of the great filmmakers of our time. And as the first two acts of this movie played out beautifully, building up to what promised to be a thrilling resolution, this was looking like another homerun for M. Night and proof positive that he indeed had the Midas touch. Then it all came crashing down right along side those glasses of water. People stopped talking about the viral moments in the movie, like the home video footage reveal of the aliens (which remains one of the most memorable movie moments of all time for me, tbf) and started asking the same question George asked in this reaction video... "what happens when it rains?", or better yet, what would a species that can't get wet want with a planet that's 80% water? The flawed logic of this movie really started to unravel the support it had and, because people always have and always will love tearing down successful people, audiences really started to turn on M. Night and question whether he was actually a good filmmaker or if he had instead just jumped the shark. There were defenders and detractors, but a lot of people were reserving their judgement until his next movie was released... which is how The Village managed to be a box office success while simultaneously topping many worst movies of all time lists in the mid 2000s. I don't know if Shyamalan movies have a future on this channel beyond Unbreakable, but I personally would love to revisit The Village with this community, just to see if/how the passage of time has changed the perception/reception of this movie.

MikeBdrx

I took French in school thinking it would be helpful. Because most of the older people around me when I was a child spoke French only to discover that it’s actually Cajun French. Apparently that wasn’t what was being taught. Spanish would have been a lot more beneficial

8bitAndy

I want to learn Simone's french phrase for the next time they drop an extra disturbing thumbnail on us. "It's not very comfortable for me that way, George."

Jacob Lantom

Mel Gibson in this movie was a pastor. They can get married and have families. Catholic priests cant

Will Moffett

Only Catholic priests can't marry or have sex. There's nothing in the bible about it, but the Catholic church is the richest business in the world via real estate and if you can't marry or have kids, you can't pass down property through inheritance.

Martin

Other than The Happening, Lady in the Water is probably M Night’s most critically panned movie, and I don’t care. I unapologetically loved it. It coaxes full tears out of me every time I watch it. I would love a reaction to it.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

To answer George'e question, Catholic priests can not marry, I have no idea why because there's nothing in the Bible that prohibits church leaders marrying. But Rabbis, Christian pastors and reverends, Orthodox priests, they're all permitted to marry.

Martin

If you look up the term “Deus Ex Machina” in the dictionary, you’re likely to see a pic of M Night Shyamalen grinning and giving a thumbs-up. When the water reveal happened, you could see the left side of George’s brain start to rebel against what he was witnessing. It was damn funny. But despite all this, I’m always here for an M Night movie because there are two things he always does exceedingly well: Create tension and inspire deep emotional responses. That’s why this is one of my favorite movies of his, despite the plot holes and illogical resolution.

Michael Robayo

Unbreakable, Split, Glass. But Please watch Unbreakable. It may be his best film.

JayF

George, you nailed it at the start. This was definitely an homage or heavily influenced by old shows like The Twilight Zone and Outer Limits. However I have a gripe about your main gripe. Having an issue with the water being the foil for the aliens doesn't set you apart. A lot of people pointed this out when the movie was released. My issue with that gripe is that it is coming at it from only the human point of view. Who can say what the aliens have experienced prior to coming here? Was it water in general or was it something specific in Earth's water that they had never encountered before? How many movies have been made about humans exploring space and finding some new thing that turned out to be dangerous to us? Why are aliens presumed to know everything? /end soapbox

Shane Leslie

The water twist wasn't even needed. Morgan mentioned when reading the book that due to their increased intelligence they would be about his height and not very strong. There's your primitive means, there's your swing away. What's more primitive than hitting a motherfucker with a stick. If you guys thought Abigail Breslin was adorable in this then you need to watch Little Miss Sunshine.

Rash Bandicoot

I watched this movie at an outdoor theater in the middle of a cornfield. Terrifying!

My_Cousin_Mose

The Happening is a fine movie that for some reason everyone crapped on it when it first came out. I never bothered to watch it a second time but I never understood the hate for it.

Ricardo Alanis

I hope you also watch War of The Worlds with Tom Cruise.

REDR58

And the original version from from 1953. As good as both of those movies are, I’d love to see someone do a good version of the movie set in the same time period as the book is.

MJH

Mel's character was an Episcopalian (a member with the Anglican communion). The Church of England is probably the most well known member of the Anglican communion, as an example to try and illustrate the relationship of "a church within a church". Catholic Priests normally cannot marry. There are some exceptions, but they are rare. Episcopal Reverends are allowed to marry and have kids, may dress in black with a white clerical collar, take confessions, and may be called Father. It also definitely fits the area (near Philadelphia) as Episcopalians/Anglicans are a pretty big religious group there. Shyamalan is Hindu but spent around 10 years in Catholic school, so he grew up with a strong influence of the religion. Signs is definitely a film exploring religion/faith, and it is not the only one from Shyamalan that does. It is a bit of a recurring theme in his films, with Signs being a bit "on the nose" compared to the average. Shyamalan has said he is spiritual but not specifically religious, and his films tend to read more as an exploration of faith rather than trying to be preachy. He has openly said that Signs is not about advocating for a religion. As for the Aliens being Demons, there is definitely support for the idea. When you start to look at the film that way, it changes how you perceive what is happening in the film. At different moments in the film, you see other people's perspectives on what is going on and what they are. The guy in the bookstore sees them as a hoax to sell soda. The recruiting officer sees them as an invading military force. The son sees them as aliens that may or may not be good and may or may not be vegetarians. The brothers see them as locals that cause trouble. That is what Demons are in Christianity, beings that trick and deceive to make you think they are something they are not so you don't truly understand their purpose. Demons aren't walking around with "signs" that directly tell you that they are Demons. Demons may also be viewed as camouflaging themselves, in the sense that they appear as something else or within something else, with the Aliens having literal camouflage to blend in with their surroundings and not be noticed. There were plenty of hints to it during the film, but I think a big one that helps seal it is when we hear the radio in the basement. They didn't come for the planet, they came for people (souls). That tips the scale that was already getting heavy from everything leading up to it. The water also makes a whole lot of sense in the context of Demons. Water has quite a bit of significance in Christianity, viewed in a positive way including washing away sin/evil. But specifically with Demons, there is no shortage of popular culture showing Holy Water as a weapon to weaken Demons, and may even be used during exorcisms by Catholic Exorcists. Then you consider a daughter who is having dreams that are prophetical. Add in the story of her being born, doing something babies aren't supposed to be able to do (smile) and having everyone referring to her as being like "an Angel", and you now have an Angel leaving glasses of (holy) water everywhere. There are plenty of great write-ups on the Aliens being Demons and the different things in the film which point to it. When you approach the film from that perspective, you start to see things that you wouldn't otherwise be looking for. From beginning to end, it is suddenly filled with a lot more "signs" than on a typical first viewing, and the crop circles are suddenly about the only thing in the film that are not "signs" of what is happening. Shyamalan said the film is about the sofa scene, the discussion about 2 types of people. "Do you see the glasses of water around you to save you at that moment if you’re not open to seeing the glasses of water around you?".

Jesse Coombs

The Happening is terrible and hilarious. I love it.

Mati D.

Now is time for Scary Movie 3, they saw the ring and signals.

Nicodemus Archleone

Simultaneously one of the best and worst alien invasion movies. So very frustrating when an otherwise great tv show/film fails to nail the ending. So much good negated by an idiotic contrivance.

Tay Schumaker

Everyone always has issues with the water thing, so I assumed that George would too. But it never bothered me. There are plenty of explanations for why an alien species would go to a planet covered in water even though it was deadly. Human beings do all kinds of risky things in the name of getting resources, power, etc And they didn’t want the planet, they wanted the people

Foodassassin4life

The Happening is in my opinion funny bad so please watch it🙏

Logan Kerlee

Good points, good points. I'd of thought that they'd check out atmosphere and detect moisture and if it's something unknown they'd at least wear some type of protective gear. Though - perhaps they had no mal intent in visiting us in the film and were simply exploring an unknown civilization. In so doing they found us - a race of bipedal lifeforms that may've been very strange or alien to them. Perhaps the one that was holding the main character's son was only investigating his sickness in order to cure him. We don't know. The movie didn't dive into that. Instead, it just wrapped up with this family dilemma being solved. That's why this shouldn't be seen as sci fi but instead a family film with some creepy vibes.

Shane Driscoll

tl;dr version: Reverends are Protestant, Priests are Catholic. The Catholic faith dates back to the Roman Empire and they were the dominant Christian faith in Western Europe until the Middle Ages when the Protestants split off and founded their own faiths, mostly because they thought the Catholic Church had become too greedy and corrupt. Naturally, this led to countless pointless deaths due to the ensuing religious wars and persecutions on both sides that spanned centuries. That's the oversimplified version that I remember from history class, anyway. I'm sure there's no shortage of books, podcasts, Youtube channels, etc that can explain it more eloquently and in greater detail.

Odd Thomas

One of Shyamalan's best. My personal favourite is The Village with Joaquin Phoenix, one of the most beautiful horror movies ever made

Odd Thomas

The only Shyamalan movies I don't like are widely regarded as vanity projects: After Earth and The Last Airbender. The Happening is a little silly, true, but actually has a REALLY interesting concept.

simon brouillard

The happening is not good and is so so boring « what nooooo » , also google ''the next spielberg" :)

ChickensAreRacist

Mel Gibson so often plays a widower it’s weird. This, Lethal Weapon, Braveheart (the preceding was a spoiler).

sarCC

Unbreakable is great. Every single one of his movies get sillier and dumber(and more embarrassing) after that.

Scoobay

People are up to 75% water. Also the atmosphere has a percentage of water. It would be like poison gas to a species that are fatally allergic to water. Whichever way you slice it the water thing makes zero sense, but I still love this movie.

Scoobay

I remember watching The Happening when it came out so I don’t remember much. I just remember thinking, ‘nice, an M. Night movie—this will be good’, and then feeling very bored and disappointed.

Young Blood Priest

My first time watching this one. When it came out the twist got shit on by so many people that I decided to save my money. Now I see I should have ignored the critics. The plot twist was dumb, but the performances were top notch. If you guys are taking suggestions for your next cinecringe flick, checkout Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever. It’s a real steaming pile…well, it’s uhm…it’s a movie.

Lou Gallucci

Gonna have to +1 to the recommendation for Little Miss Sunshine. Also, as we learn more and more about the universe, the more plot holes appear in basically all alien invasion movies unless the object of the invasion is specifically us. Anything that's here on earth is ridiculously abundant throughout the rest of the universe without the risk of an intelligent species fighting back.

Stephanie

They didn't come for the planet, they came for the humans! Please watch The Village, The Happening, Unbreakable, Split and Glass.

Odd Thomas

Honestly you can pick apart any movie, so I don't have a problem with the water. As you say, Bo's water tic is established early on so there would be glasses everywhere. Merle was hitting the alien but not really defeating it until the water injures it. Also we're assuming they know how our planet works. Maybe on their world they never have rain - and they couldn't have guessed a farmhouse in a dry place would have so many glasses of water inside. I could go on, but you get the point.

Travis

I predict that George is going to have fun roasting a key “element” in the one

WastedPo

I love The Village, and I think it's one of the most underrated movies of all time. That said, I admit it does have flaws--the kind of flaws that most people had issues with to the point that it tipped the movie for them. I worry if Simone and George watched it, they'd be among those people.

gobmob2000

This is one of those films where the whole film is excellent until the ending, the last 15 min where just stupid. Tbh, it would have been better and more fitting, if he realised that the aliens where not actually aliens, but demons mistaken as aliens. And the wife told him something like "god never leaves you" as she died. And that would make him realize that he still has the power to bless the water then he would have had to bless on of the glasses of water and then do the whole thing.

Max Krause

But wouldn't you scout out a planet that you want to invade first and then notice that its surface is 71% poison/acid, inhabited by a species that is made of up to 65% poison/acid and that poison/acid raining from the sky is a thing? From what we've seen, bleeding on them would be akin to Xenomorph blood in Alien. I agree with George that the aliens would have worked much better if they just hadn't expanded on the "primitive method" mentioned in the end. Leave it open for interpretation.

FranciscoGios

Other movies I like from M. Night Shyamalan are The Village (2004, also starting Joaquin Phoenix and more interesting players) and the other is less known film he made is called Lady in the Water(2006).

Travis

And I was right🤣🤣🤣 I know you guys too well at this point

Chase Schleich

Bored? Mark Wahlberg out runs the wind.... the actual wind! How could you be bored watching something so riveting?!

Michael Green

Yeah, love this movie but it's one of those things where if the emotion is right the logic doesn't matter. This is maybe my third favorite Shyamalan, though I'm one of those people who like more of his films than the canonical "good ones" (not the Airbender movie, that thing is a weird abomination in which his ability to direct children seemingly vanished)

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

I actually loved The Village but I thought I was the only one..it is one of those movies when people hate on it...in my head I'm like "you just dont get it"...and I'm not typically like that w films...ha

Betterfire

And when he get interview about this he said he read it on the internet after he left office , the part that everyone forgot to say , just sayin.

Pearl Jam

I distinctly remember enjoying this movie when I was younger. I sat down for a rewatch with you guys, and it was so disappointing. Not because of you two! The movie just didn’t hold up well for me. Perhaps it's because I've since left my faith, and its portrayal of someone going through that process felt inaccurate. Add to that the unrealistic aliens, and the movie just lacked substance. I'm sorry for voting for this one! On the bright side, it gave me a great movie recommendation for you: 'Ender’s Game'. The girl who played Bo is in it.

Grand Moff Slackin'

Reverends walk like this, but priests walk like this. It works better as a visual gag.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

for more young Abigail Breslin and a wonderfully fun film...please react to Little Miss Sunshine

JoeySnowyNoey

I love this movie so much. It makes me cry like a baby every time I watch it! Its interesting that you guys said that they seem like demons because that’s actually a theory I heard before about this film! I know the water thing logically is pretty bad but the story and emotion of the film overshadows that. Understand though if it bothers people enough to dislike it though or find it to be a problem but I don’t personally.

JoeySnowyNoey

Doesn’t that have Paul Dano as well? I’ve been meaning to watch that for forever but haven’t got around to it!

Jorge Lopez

Yeah, Unbreakable is definitely worth watching. It's really great. And then Split. It was surprisingly entertaining as well. But the others aren't worth it.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

as for M Night ... I'd love for you to react to Split, The Village, Old, and Lady in the Water

REDR58

George, as regards to this taking place in “Bucks County” outside of Philadelphia, yes people in the area know that county well as compared to Philadelphia. It has a population of about 626,000 people, compared 1.6 million people in Philadelphia, so it’s not exactly sparsely occupied. It’s roughly northwest of the city. The movie was filmed on location in Bucks county and other nearby areas. Shymalan was raised and lives in the areas and generally films his movies in Pennsylvania, which is neat for us locals. Incidentally, Peter Jackson shot part of “The Lovely Bones” in my hometown, Royersford, PA, and a neighboring town as well as a few others. The movie “The Blob” from 1958 also shot some scenes locally. Fun stuff.

Chase Schleich

George, it's actually been debunked that it's people making all the crop circles. People do make them, but not all of them. There's big differences between man made ones and the mystery ones. Aliens is one theory people have, but in actuality, the who/what/how is still unknown. Those 2 guys you mentioned made some pretty bad looking ones in the UK and they leave a lot of evidence behind like obvious signs of humans walking through the corn to get to the circle spot (foot prints, paths, broken stalks, etc). When questioned about the ones where there were no signs of humans walking through the corn, those 2 guys claim they "pole vaulted" through the fields in order not to leave tracks..... pole vaulted..... uh huh.... Also, there were crop circles popping up all over the world long before those 2 guys and they were popping up all over the world while those 2 guys were doing them (before they revealed their method). So either those 2 guys have been around a long time and go to every country on Earth or a bunch of random people all over the world all figured out the board with strings trick (even though that trick doesn't work when it comes to the more intricate designs. Some are very exact in their measurements and placement. There's also the high radiation around crop circles that no one has been able to come up with an excuse for yet. The radiation actually causes the corn to mutate. There's a bunch of other evidence that points to it not being done by people as well, but this message is already wayyyy longer than I intended lol.

REDR58

Simone and George for a really fun alien arrival movie check out Spielberg’s “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” from 1977, the Director’s cut if you can find it (137 minutes).

Nate Terry

I actually would have preferred that the water foreshadowing was more hidden....Ray Redding's character saying they don't like water would be taken out, so that when the climax scene occurs, the water splashing on the alien would have been a happy surprise that Uncle Merrill would notice and capitalize on in the moment. I agree with George about the water stuff taking me out of the movie..also, since the graphics were dated....it was a bold move to have the showdown in the morning with the sun out and the alien imperfections showing badly. maybe a night scene....or use more of the reflections in the tv to hide it..I mean, if you smart enough to know the CGI looks bad that you are hiding it every chance you got, you would have to have made the final showdown in the sun consiously.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

Respectfully disagree...I think a lot of M Night's movies got and get a lot of hate as a bit of a sheep syndrome... I enjoyed most of them..some more than others...but for instance The Village got so much hate but it is an excellent film imo...your mileage may vary of course but this idea of peeps making blanket statements...like they aren't worth a reaction or not good should be framed as your own opinion

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

I can see peeps enjoying Ender's Game...I didnt enjoy it much probably because I was a fan of the book and felt they did not do it justice...not even a little bit... but if they did it I'd watch along and see if time has changed my mind...I'd prefer Little Miss Sunshine if they did another Breslin film

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

I really disagree and it bugs me so much when peeps make this blanket statement...respect if you feel that way but a lot of us simply dont..

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

I have loved most of his films..I feel a lot of the hate and backlash was unwarrented...some of it like The Village people wanting a diff twist..or the marketing of the film not matching the tone...I have enjoyed all of his films to some degree....for instance..I think The Village is great but most hate on it...I think it is quite brilliant

warcrimes

16 miinute intro yikes

REDR58

Well, just finished it and like too many of Shymalan’s films it is 90% excellent and then falls apart in the end. Meh. Needlessly silly. Beyond the water issue, given what we see of the aliens, privately-owned firearms (never mind a professional army) would take care of the problem here pretty quickly, if they are so susceptible to blunt force weapons. And they basically stood there waiting to be killed. It barley fought back. Good acting though.

Chase Schleich

The little girl who played Bo was also "Little Rock" in the Zombieland films (Emma Stone was "Wichita").

Odd Thomas

How I would rank the Shyamalan films you've yet to watch (and I hope you do): 1. The Village (literally one of my favourite films) 2. Unbreakable 3. Lady in the Water 4. Split 5. The Happening 6. The Visit 7. Old 8. Glass (I've not seen Knock at the Cabin yet)

WayneC

George, you should definitely get Simone to react to Uncle Roger. Especially featuring Kay's Cooking!

Shibby

Unbreakable would be an excellent movie and I'd love to see it here. Abigail Breslin is also in Little Miss Sunshine which is another good movie to react to.

Odd Thomas

A great Abigail Breslin movie I don't think many people have seen is Haunter

Vincent Arfeux

About the intro, sorry about that (I'm french) let me know if you need help :D

redddfer44

"Uncle George so angry at shaky cam, I put leg down from chair! Haiyaa..."

redddfer44

This intro is just too good. Simone's French phrase and the fact that The Happening is so bad that George doesn't even remember watching it for Cinecringe :D EDIT: Somebody please confirm that George & Chris did watch it and it's just been removed from the channel. Because I'm 99,9 % sure that I watched it. And this is appropriate for a MNS movie.

Designation Zero

We travel in vessels into the sea to harvest protein. If anything happens to the vessel everyone dies. As explorers, we travel to environments that are 100% deadly. I don't see why people are so critical of being susceptible to water.

Mark

Im from Doylestown Pennsylvania which is where this movie takes place. While there is a lot of farm land, the movie makes it look way more rural than it is. Its about an hour north of Philadelphia.

Buhr

This has always been my retort too. If you are traveling through the ever expanding vastness of space you will likely not get to be choosy about where you harvest from. If we could travel there, and found out Venus was filled with something expensive, and rare like lithium, Neodymium, or printer ink... you bet your ass we would be there.

Cubonemaker

omg that uncle Rogers impersonation had me ded

Tanx

Huge fan of this movie and a few of MNS's movies, so....wall of text incoming: Loved this movie so much. have watched it well over a dozen times. it was the first movie I bought after I got my surround sound system back in the day. hadn't even tested the system. that corn field scene at night scared the crap out of me because the directional speakers. thought something was jumping out from beside me. Also the score and sound for this movie were just so dang good. Although M Night broke a huge rule twice in this movie....he killed the doggo....twice. I think part of what made this awesome was that it is showing this all from the POV of one family. it's like what things would be like for most people if this situation would have happened at the time, not as connected through online sites, getting most of our info from tv, radio and rumor. It's part of why I think I enjoyed The Quiet Place so much. The dialogue was great, the acting was on point, and the setting was perfect. Was really cool that you two caught on to a few things I didn't notice until the 2nd time I watched it. like putting together the not calling the vet at the beginning and then seeing Rey was a vet. I also missed the camo on the alien's arm showing Mel's face the first watch. There are lots of fun details in the movie that are great about making theories. Like Bo inheriting her mothers seer abilities. The mother could see the future and give advice about it and Bo was seeing the future in her dreams. Believe Lady in the Water was the first movie that MNS made that just fell flat. after that there was some struggle. Some say the Village, but the Village did have its' moments. The Happening is worth watching just for the laughs. There a show called Wayward Pines that had a pretty cool first season that he directed(at least some of the episodes, not sure if all of them), it's also a book series. Unbreakable is technically part of a trilogy. it was just a hidden trilogy because you aren't supposed to know Split was a sequel until the credit scene. Split is great and stands on its' own as just a standalone movie. you don't need to see Unbreakable to really enjoy it. and you can just not watch Glass because honestly I think Unbreakable and Split just stand on their own as two great movies. Although there is some good commentary for what MNS was trying to say about what real life super heroes would be like. Can't say anything else without some pretty big spoilers. I would say these are good watches for anyone that enjoyed a MNS movie: Sixth Sense Unbreakable Signs The Village Split Season 1 of Wayward Pines *The Happening* only for the memes and just craziness of the plot and dialogue. almost was like he was trying to a make a B movie disguised as a blockbuster. Have not seen Knock at the Cabin yet, but have heard it's okay. Most people thought after Split he was back in the swing of things with making great films. You should check out Chris Stuckmann's video about Signs and some of his other videos about MNS. he is a huge fan of the movie and talks about the water issue as well as a few other complaints pretty well. there are a lot of people that have issues with the water thing, I don't. basically I look at it the same way as us going into the deep ocean or other environments where we would not survive long without access to shelter or protective gear. i mean we step out side of a submersible in the deep ocean, we die instantly. we go to the north or south pole and step outside without protective gear, we freeze to death fairly quickly. If we were to go to a planet like Venus with really advanced gear in like a thousand years and we walk on the planet with protective gear but without it we would die instantly. the aliens come out of the ship at night when we aren't as active and in good weather. they don't show any scenes of places the aliens went that may have had a rain storm. they may have just stayed in their comfy ships that night or moved on when they saw puddles on the ground. they also avoided places with a lot of water, as Rey said. also if we saw some little creatures crawling around we would try to take a few for study, kind of like the aliens in this movie. they didn't care about making a settlement or anything, they just wanted some good human meat for their long flight home or something. Also with us basically adapting to our technology and environment, most of us would die if we were thrown out in the wild. Which also brings me to the complaint that a lot of others had about the aliens not knowing how doors and windows work. If we advance to a point where even our doors are based on advanced tech and structures, we might forget how a primitive doorknob works, think about what our houses would be like if we were capable of traveling across the galaxy. the alien had an issue with being trapped in the pantry, but it did eventually work out how to get through, just like the aliens just figured out that the windows were easy to break. they weren't incapable, they just aren't used to such primitive building concepts.

A little late to the party, been really busy this past week. This movie is alright, but compared to others I think it falls a little flat. Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978) is a fascinating study on how important communication is, and makes you think on how the cell phone changes everything. However my favorite alien movie is Fire in the Sky (1993). It is one of the scariest movies I have ever seen, it will give you guys goosebumps for the whole runtime.

I am a bit late to the party, but I enjoyed the intro to this movie so much!! And I have so many thoughts! As a native speaker of a pointlessly gendered language (Spanish) who later decided to learn English and French, I was relating to George's struggle so much! Arbitrarily gendered nouns are indeed pointless (but also, in English all vehicles are "she" because you get inside them, and that's always creeped me out; in Spanish they are always "he" because penis proxies, duh), but the real trip is when you speak Spanish and learn French, they don't use the same arbitrarily gendered language rules!! Those bastards keep playing switcheroo just to confound learners, I swear. I am also fascinated with cultural anthropology in general, and mythologies/folklore and what it says about what matters to people, and I have theories about why the difference in scary legends: The BabaYaga myth is essentially xenophobia: the Sami people traditionally built their houses on top of wooden 'tripod' legs, were more matriarchal and had their own indigenous knowledge of herbs and medicine, hence the "powerful witches who live in houses with chicken legs" legend. American myths focus on ghosts and aliens because they are "guilt of colonization" legends: the fear that one day some powerful beings will descend without warning from unknown places and exterminate/enslave all humans (hence why their alien stories are rarely peaceful, and why in rural Italy there aren't that many UFOs, and apparitions from the sky are usually the Virgin Mary); or the fear that the past they've completely erased from their surroundings and don't interact with anymore will rise from beyond to settle the score... Something that will do to them what they have done. Those are manifestations of guilt. See also how the "building on top of a cursed Native American cemetery" trope also happens really often. And monsters ebb and flow in popularity depending on the times: the late 80s and 90s brought a lot of vampire stories to deal with blood and sex being quite deadly; zombies were popular in the 50s due to communist fears of brainwashing, and once again when the internet renewed that same fear; demonic possession stories talk about how our once angelic children become moody and violent in adolescence and reject family values, Frankenstein embodied the victorian fear of progress run amok and costing us our humanity, so I think it's due for a revival soon... (We are not exempt from symbolic preferences: in my country, a lot of scary stories are about the yet unhealed fractures of the Civil War, so there are a lot of "this evil will return prophecy" tropes, for instance.) I find it all very fascinating; the specifics of each place and time always tell you what's unique of those circumstances.

I would love to see you guys cover the unbreakable trilogy (Unbreakable, Split, and Glass). Also have to agree that The Village was awesome. I even really enjoyed Lady in the Water, even though it was panned. Paul Giamatti was amazing in that (it was also funny to re-watch it years later and recognize Jared Harris).

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but a priest (presumably catholic) is well.. catholic. So in the church they are married to God when they get ordained. A reverend, at least in the context of this movie (being pennsylvania, german names, etc.) would likely be a Lutheran priest or pastor. They dress similarly to catholic priests, but are able to, for example, Marry.

Doug's Night Terrors

I watched this when it first came out. This was my 2nd time watching it and I realized, when Merrill was swinging away, the alien never attacked. It didn't even defend itself. It even turned its back to protect the kid from Merrill's first swing. The only hostile act was the spray. Could the spray have been a cure? I think they were here to help or at least make contact. They can't be interested in a planet whose surface is 70% water, and it doesn't make much sense to go through all that trouble just for some human lunch meat. Did the aliens ever do anything hostile? Even when the alien reached through the grate and grabbed the kid, there wasn't a scratch on the kid afterward. Considering the alien's claws and the force exerted by the two men pulling the child away, one would expect some injury unless the alien let go intentionally to avoid causing harm. Could it have been attempting to spray the child there? Also, the aliens suddenly got scared away by some primitive method? I think they just gave up on us after being attacked every time they said hello. Also, maybe they weren't wearing any protective gear to seem less threatening. Let me know if you think I got this wrong.

Why is it a glaring issue for ‘signs’ that the aliens invade a planet covered in water, but not an issue for ‘War of the Worlds’ that they invade a planet covered in germs. In raw numbers it be fair to say that earth’s predominant and primary life forms are microscopic organisms. So why is it believable that the tripod aliens would overlook the danger they posed
