The best part about the evil dead movie is that its a bunch of kids fucking around in the woods making a classic horror movie without even knowing it. You can actually see in the movie the progress they made during shooting especially in the camera work and lighting. Evil dead 2 is more comedic and and Army of Darkness is an action comedy adventure movie.

I loved the TV show it awesome seeing ash again

Saddleface

I am so excited that you are jumping into these movies. They have such a following. As long as Bruce Campbell is in the movie or show it is awesome!

Jeff K

This was unintentionally campy, overall. Keep in mind, it was basically a student film. Raimi leaned into the campiness with the sequels and TV show.

So, yes you should keep going. Most of the franchise is straight forward except for Army of Darkness. There are four(yes, I know haha) different versions that are widely available to watch. The Director's Cut, 96 minutes The international version, 88 minutes The U.S. Theatrical Version, 81 minutes The U.S. Television Version, 88 minutes It’s been a while so I would have to go look up which ending goes where except for the DC and the theatrical. Those two have completely different endings, and the theatrical is the one considered cannon for the TV show, Ash vs The Evil Dead. What I would do is watch the DC, and then watch the ending to the theatrical cut. That will get you the most deadite action and make sure you understand what’s what for the TV show, which is an absolute riot. Looking forward to watching this, got to do other stuff now. Also. All of the movies have very strong commentaries recorded for them. If you guys want to go back and watch them I would absolutely watch them with you.

Bruce Campbell used to post autographed pictures to his fans if you just asked for one with an email. An online friend of mine got one in the 90s. I emailed Campbell as well and didn't get a photo as he'd stopped doing that for some reason. I did get a lengthy, friendly reply, though. It's too bad I lost the email account and never took a backup. One really cool, odd movie that stars Bruce Campbell: Bubba Ho-Tep. If you want to record some real "wtf" reactions, don't look up anything beforehand. It's a comedy-fantasy-horror (says IMDB) with a fucking loonie concept that somehow ends up being a much more meaningful film than you'd imagine.

This is pretty much the OG "cabin in the woods" horror movie. There's a lot of humor, but it's also (to me) genuinely scary. I love that it's kind of the reverse of the final girl trope -- the one who is actually scared and believes something horrible is happening is the first one attacked.

The evil dead is a great film ! But Evil dead 2 is a masterpiece of cinema ! Hope you guys watch it. It's even more fun than this one :) The third film is incredible too and I personally like the remake and "evil dead rise" a lot. There not on the same level but they're pretty good ;) Hope you watch the whole franchise.

Pam Nail

Also, re Joel Coen -- this was three years before the Coen brothers even made their first film, so Joel was not anybody of any kind of stature in the industry yet (before this, he'd been a production assistant on music videos and industrial films). When Joel and Ethan were getting ready to make Blood Simple, they used Evil Dead as a model for how to finance an independent film and they collaborated with Raimi a few more times over the next couple of decades.

Jobbe Smit

I found having the thing stretched to multiple seasons exhausting the fun of it. Ash is great but in moderation.

Jobbe Smit

You guys gotta do the second one, you can see Raimi's growth in it and Campbell is amazing.

AstralCars

Now on to Evil Dead 2!!!

Kangdarius

I like the 2nd one. Nvr was a fan of this one or army of darkness if I’m being honest. IMO drag me to hell blows all of these out the water. My favorite raimi “horror” movie.

ShadowStunts

HAVE to watch the sequel. One of the most iconic horror films of all time

hurryupmode

Oh my God, please watch all three films.

Chase Lonnergan

PLEASE watch the sequels. And the Series!

Nate Gavin

Agreed. Ash vs Evil Dead. You will love it. Half scary. Half funny. Full Awesome.

michael clarke

this is my personal favorite for all the things you said you liked about it. it was built on passion. every story from filming was one of suffering. i do recognize that evil dead 2 is a better film though. they really lean into the comedy and it works like horror/comedy rarely does.

Joh

Great reaction!

Jeff K

Yep. To the point where, in the movie Cabin in the Woods, the cabin and especially the basement are a very obvious homage to Evil Dead.

Jeff K

It would have been *wild* to be a fly on the wall in the house Raimi and Campbell lived with not just the Coen Brothers, but also Frances McDormand, Holly Hunter, and Kathy Bates.

Evil Dead (2013) came right at the end of the neverending stream of remakes produced during the late 2000s/early 2010s. There was so many of them, it was ridiculous. Most were terrible, with the odd exception (The Hills Have Eyes and The Crazies spring to mind as decent ones). Safe to say my expectations were low going into the Evil Dead reboot..... I absolutely loved it. Evil Dead Rise was pretty good too but I've never watched the series.

Jeb Manning

Yeah, you should definitely do the sequels. The nice thing about every Evil Dead movie is that it feels different in each way. The first one is a dark, brutal, and gruesome movie. Evil Dead 2 is a mixture of horror and humor. Army of Darkness is a fun mixture of horror, comedy, action, and fantasy movies. The entire Evil Dead Trilogy is one of the best movie trilogies out there.

Jeb Manning

Even the 2013 remake and 2023's Evil Dead Rise are worth a watch. They're all so entertaining and a wild ride. And the TV show is a lot of fun.

Will Moffett

I love how creative your fake movie posters are especially with Simone. Her eyes are so expressive.

Wyatt Nuxoll

Hahaha 🤣 lmao hahahaha the thumbnails are so awesome , creative and so funny

Purple Dragon Knight

This movie was Sam Rami's first try. The 2nd movie is a 2nd try. The second movie is so much more fun! A mix of horror and camp. Then comes Army of Darkness and the camp rules. It is so much fun! Must watch! Please!

WastedPo

I would rather them watch the theatrical cut for their first time exposure to Army of Darkness, if only for the ending. In the case of Army of Darkness, the regular theatrical ending is just *so* much better in my opinion. It has multiple classic Ash lines and moments, whereas the alternate ending doesn't. Yes, the extended scenes within the body could be fun to watch, but for me, they're not worth the "trade-off" in losing the theatrical ending. I also think that the average viewer would find it more difficult to follow-along to a more obscure cut of the movie. (Obscure meaning anything besides the U.S. Theatrical.)

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

Scary movie must react requests: The Witch (2015), The Descent (2005), The Nun (2018) -honestly all of The Conjuring universe is worthwhile-

Jens

PLEASE do "The Descent"! Dont look it up at all. its so damn good!

brian burke

i really dont like the evil dead movies but i respect how hard these people worked on this, the eye contacts the actors had to wear on their eyes really hurt them, they could not see for awhile, it wasnt CGI. i respect that alot, there are some behind the scenes videos out there you can check out about the making of this. also sam raimi and stephen king would later work together, and sam raimi is an actor in stephen kings the stand from 1994
