A better Anna Faris movie: Smiley Face

Jay

I know, more boring homework but yous really should have watched I Know What You Did Last Summer first. That film is ripped on just as much as Scream. I like this one but the rest are steaming piles of dog shit.

The woman in the opening is Carmen Electra. She was kind of the rival of Pam Anderson. They were both in Baywatch too. The joke is that when she filmed this she was married to NBA star Dennis Rodman who was in fact black and and wore make up and women’s clothing. And then when it hits Prince it’s a subversion because she did indeed date him AND both men fit those details. She then married Dave Navarro and he also wears make up and women’s clothing. She definitely has a type.

MikeBdrx

Thank you lol I needed a good couple days filled with laughter

djKENTO

Teens hitting a man while partying in a car is the premise of I Know What You Did Last Summer. It’s another studio horror film filled with gorgeous 20somethings playing teenagers. It’s often compared to Scream but is nowhere near as clever.

DeAndrew Greene

I forgot how much this movie spoofs I Know What You Did Last Summer lol

Odd Thomas

The third one is the best imo

HUGO TORRES

Im so sad u guys both missed the part where marlon literally says this is exactly like scream same dialogue and everything lol

King_Panarisi

Awesome! Please continue the scream franchise. They are all great.

Stephanie

You missed the post credit scene. 😕

Tay Schumaker

Watching Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer would have helped

Rich

Its my opinion thats its better to have seen I know what you did last summer first

Martin Roca

Scary movie 2 and 3 are amazing too.

Odd Thomas

This spoofs Scream, Scream 2 and I Know What You Did Last Summer. It was early 00's hence The Matrix references etc. The funny dad is probably best known for a similar role in The Burbs.

MikeBdrx

having you two analyze the movie while Dave Sheridan is in the back ground with the vacuum cleaner was fucken great lol

REDR58

And yet again I will suggest Simone and George watch The ‘Burbs! 😄

Young Blood Priest

The guy named squiggy played a character of the same name in the sitcom Laverne & Shirley. The Wayans Brothers was a 90s sitcom written and starring Shawn and Marlon Wayans who wrote and starred in this movie. Their older brother Keenan Ivory Wayans directed this movie. The dude that did the Amistad II bit.

🖤I recommend Scary Movie 2 and 3. With those, there is more "homework" you could surely do before watching those, but for Scary Movie 2 you've already seen enough of the movies it's spoofing, and some of the movies you haven't seen just rely on haunted house horror movie troupes anyway. Scary Movie 3 heavily leaned on Signs which you saw. There are some 8-mile references but honestly, while I recommend that movie just on its own, I don't think Scream 3 takes away anything 8-mile that didn't become a pop-culture reference anyway. So if you want to watch either, maybe take suggestions on what you COULD watch, but just like with Men in Tights, you didn't see Prince of Thieves which would have added so much to the viewing, but most of the jokes still landed. It was funny on it's own. If you do make it past Scary Movie 2 & 3, Not Another Teen Movie is also one of the better parody movies from this time. It's for sure the movie Chris Evans wants you to forget about... for reasons XD. Not another Teen Movie relies on a lot of 80's-early 2000's movie stereotypes, so you two would be good there, but as far as recommended "homework" Varsity Blues and Cruel Intentions would be a big help. But again, you've seen enough to get a lot of the references, and a lot of the jokes either stand on their own or are based on broad stereotypes from those genres.

🖤Principal Squigmon is a reference to the fact Henry Winkler played the principal in Scream, and also played The Fonz in Happy Days. The principal in this movie played a character called Squiggy in Laverne and Shirley which was a spin-off of Happy Days. *Spits on George's face (per his request... don't look at me he's the one who suggested it...)*

Sumner Hayes

"Scream 3 heavily leaned on Signs which you saw." I think maybe you were mixing up the Scream and Scary Movie franchises in the first couple paragraphs? Scream 3 came out 2 years before Signs.

Diiego

Definitely need to watch the 2nd and 3rd ones next!!

Pearl Jam

Air Dance = Beetlejuice ending

Jay

I literally just watched the brilliant Requiem for a Dream again a few days ago. Seeing Marlon Wayans as Shorty here is quite jarring:)

Chase Schleich

I'm only a few minutes through the intro and George says: "There's so many things that might go right over our heads" I immediately thought WAZZZ UPPPPPPP! lol. There's no way they get that.

Vwlss Nvwls

The principal, Mr. Squiggy is a joke aimed at Henry Winkler playing the principal in the first Scream. Henry Winkler is well known for playing The Fonz in the 70s t.v. shows Happy Days and Laverne & Shirley, and the actor who plays Mr. Squiggy is well known for play part of a comedy duo in Lavern & Shirley, Lenny and Squiggy... and of course he played Squiggy. So basically, it's a reference that only old ass mofos like me would get. :)

FranciscoGios

The Wayans Brothers was a television series, apart from that they are comedy brothers they used to do laughter shows/movies back in the 1990s.

Vwlss Nvwls

The canceled t.v. show he was referencing at the end was his own sitcom The Wayans Brothers.

Martin

The snot scene with the reporter was from “The Blair Witch Project.” Also, the other “Scary Movie” movies are objectively bad.

Gwyn

please do 2 and 3

Jonah

there are a few references from the scream movies that you'll understand when you get there. Definitely worth the watch. they are a great series. they get more meta, more self aware, more hilarious, and more surprising with the twists.

Ricardo Alanis

I thought 3 was actually defent and hits a lot of the recent movies they’ve watched like The Ring and Signs. And I think Blair Witch is good but George would have a tough time with it being all handheld.

Shonnicus

Deepest cut is Ray while stabbing Bobby "No! Watching TV shows doesn't create psycho killers. Canceling TV shows does! I mean the Wayans Brothers was a good show, man! It was a good show, but we've never even got a final episode" I liked their show, 'The Wayans Brother's.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

I see some comments about the Wayans Brothers show but even before that was In Living Color, it was the sketch show that helped launch the careers of both Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx. Keenan Ivory Wayans was the show creator and it also starred his brothers Damon, Marlon, and Shawn, and sister Kim, the teacher with the baby in the beginning of the movie was also on the show. Tommy Davidson was on the show too, he was the crazy little guy Ace had to fight in When Nature Calls. I'm not sure how well the skits have aged but you can find some of them on YouTube (I still think they're funny). Jim Carrey had been in a few movies before the show but I remember he was the big standout, and that's when he started landing movies like Ace Ventura, and the rest is history. EDIT: I forgot, Jennifer Lopez also got her launch off of In Living Color, in between segments there were dancers, the Fly Girls, and Jennifer Lopez was the choreographer and lead dancer and she was also offered her first acting roles because of the attention she got from the show.

Logan Kerlee

I'm really happy that you both enjoyed this! hahaha, so many references from ages ago. Obviously some went over your heads. lmao, the first reference that ya'll missed was from Dawson's Creek. I didn't pay attention to most everything else - at least enough to remember them individually. This movie was HILARIOUS back in the day. xD hahahaha, good fucking times!

Young Blood Priest

And that was the last show I remember seeing John Witherspoon. He was the father in the Friday movie trilogy.

Jacob King

I Know What You Did Last Summer is referenced nearly as much as Scream and probably totally spoiled by watching Scary Movie first. Whole scenes are taken from Scream 2 but not to the same extent and not plot relevant scenes. Sarah Michelle Gellar stars in both those movies. They are also both written by Kevin Williamson who wrote Dawson’s Creek (Dawson was the guy climbing through the window). The Irish dancing is probably a reference to Riverdance which was a cultural phenomenon at the time. Personally, I don’t feel the comedy holds up. It’s been decades since I’ve seen it and my memory was that they didn’t seem to understand that the Scream movies were already parodies and that was definitely my feeling on this watch. They are just taking the same jokes and making them more obvious or they’re adding penises. Miramax sued the makers of I Know What You Did claiming it was too close to Scream despite being an adaptation of a pre-existing novel and being written by the same author. We don’t really need more evidence that Harvey Weinstein is a terrible person but he was.

Eric Santiago

If you two are haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend Eurotrip for a hilarious throwback to the 2000s

Opti_Frog

(Not) eagerly awaiting the poll for Date Movie Epic Movie Meet the Spartans Disaster Movie "Hey, i recognise that! That must mean it's funny!" 🤮

REDR58

The drug dealing dad who was hog-tied was played by Rick Ducommun who was a Canadian character actor and he’s been in a bunch of movies like Space Balls, Die Hard, The Hunt for Red October, Groundhog Day, Last Action Hero and others. He’s probably best known for “The ‘Burbs” in which he has a large role alongside Tom Hanks. Definitely check out “The ‘Burbs” from 1989! Very weird, funny movie. Sadly, he died at the age of 62 in 2015.

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

For a funnier Anna Faris film and well deserving of a watch is - House Bunny

megamoo chilli

I've lived my whole life never seeing this film because I suspected it was trash. sigh Now I'm certain. I laughed once when the guy elbow dropped the girl for no reason, so I'll continue patreonising, but it was close.

David Lonewolf Wright

The "What are you waiting for" line was lifted from the movie you missed, the guy on the roof was added for the levity part. Simone, don't say "and stuff". Just say boobs. Sorry, I just watched The Nice Guys watch-a-long.

Jacob Vallier

You know the funniest thing about this movie is that it has a higher budget than scream
