Unrated cut (aka Uncorked Edition)

Martin

Excellent!

Jay Davis

Since you mentioned wanting to see more Vince Vaughn, here’s my sales pitch – Remember all the cool dialogue/conversations in Pulp Fiction that kept you locked into the scenes? The Royale With Cheese, foot massages, etc.? This is what you will get with the movie “Swingers”. It features breakout appearances for a young Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau (who also wrote the movie). It was a critically acclaimed indie comedy that admits it’s inspired by Tarantino. If Vince Vaughn had an origin story, this would be it. Other fun facts - It also includes Heather Graham, it’s director Doug Liman’s first success (director of Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow), and has cameos by Jon Favreau’s grandmother, Vince Vaughn’s dad, and Favreau’s actual shitty apartment and personal car. There’s also a lot of interesting back story such as they couldn’t actually reserve locations so they had to shoot in open businesses. In one scene, a guy had been trying to pick up Heather Graham in a bar as the scene started and got interrupted.

JediLounger

You guys are really enjoying Walken and how he talks. I strongly advise that you check out True Romance (1993), make sure you get the unrated cut. It's the default one on Blu-ray and digital services. Edit: If you want to check out a Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy movie, the Wes Craven directed Red Eye (2005) is an exercise in anxiety. Very under rated movie.

JakeyShakeyBakeyBoy

For the longest time I thought it was “nip it in the butt” and experienced the realisation I was a dumb ass for a decade haha

8bitAndy

Looking for more Vince Vaughn? I recommend Rudy. Not because Vaughn is particularly memorable in it, but because I really want to see a reaction to it. :)

Brendan Rafferty

Funny, but hard to enjoy when the two main characters are so unlikeable.

Grandalf

Holy shit, Vince Vaughn is so Vince Vaughn in this movie! It's still one of my favorite comedies. This reminds me that you guys need to watch Swingers with him and John Favreau. It's hilarious and a definite vibe of a movie.

PureGonzo

Yes! “Swingers” was arguably one of the biggest catalysts for both of them in terms of their careers. Classic film.

Grandalf

Other Vince Vaughn classics aside from Swingers, on the hilarious side would be Old School (with Luke Wilson and Will Farrell this time), and Starsky and Hutch where he teams up with Owen Wilson again. He's also great in Hacksaw Ridge in a more serious role, but he still provides the comic relief in an amazingly good, yet heavy, WWII film. My first recommendation will always be Swingers, like I said in the post above...yes, I paused Wedding Crashers just to tell you guys how much you'd love Swingers.

tullius cicero

OLD SCHOOL AND STARSKY AND HUTCH. Great comedies from this family of comedy actors. Vince Vaughn, Ben Stiller, Owen, Luke Wilson, Will Ferrell.

Patrick

I'm pretty sure everyone thought that was the expression at some point in their lives haha Mainly because you hear people say it that way.

MikeBdrx

Old School is good, Couples Retreat, Swingers and a more serious movie with Vince, Delivery Man.

Logan Kerlee

hahahaha, I knew the practice makes perfect, master of none, bit! lmao! xD "Kitten caboodle!" hahaha, good times, BURN PIXIE, BURN!! Pixies are chaotic, not positive that they're evil. :P Some may be.. but not all. xD lol, just looked them up and apparently they're neutral good. lmao, gingers are everywhere George. :P Satan spawn, the lot of them! hahahaha xD This movie is so darn fun! I'm hoping that you both will get a laugh from this. :) How tall are you Simone? :/ lol, you give off short vibes. :P I absolutely love how little research you both do before watching these! hahahaha, I didn't write as I watched, whatever. Watching this was a lot of fun with you two! lol, this was actually my first time watching this version! So much stuff was added to this, it's crazy. lmao, as for Jack and Rose - yeah, totally was a vacation hookup. Jack was just Rose's realization that her relationship was garbage and that she deserved so much more. hahahaha, I remembed being confused about the Sack/Zack thing! I don't actually know about deleted scenes with this one. I either forgot that Will Ferrel was in this or he was only included in this version. Happy that you both had a great time! I really did. :)

Patrick

When you mentioned "the redhead" I thought you were gonna say Sacha Baron Cohen's wife as another hint. I always forget her name for some reason and have to look it up.

Patrick

I LOVE a good Vince Vaughn rant lol

Tyler Worthington

Freaky is absolutely a top-tier Vince Vaughn movie. It's "horror" comedy, but the horror is light so it should fit into the schedule pretty easily year round. It's hilarious and definitely shows a different side of Vince Vaughn...

R Harper

Yost Guys look up "sacking the quarterback" it's a football term - Sack

Tay Schumaker

It's been suggested but if you want more of this Vince Vaughn, watch Swingers and Old School. He is good in The Break Up too, but it's not in the same vein as these other comedies.

Odd Thomas

David Dobkin and Vince Vaughn reunited for one of the best xmas films: Fred Claus. Way better than Wedding Crashers imo.

rycolaa

They team up again in the Internship. But I prefer the movie Old School for Vince Vaughn or perhaps Hacksaw Ridge for something more serious

akaTheBARON

🖤Damn, George asked for quotes that we might now that are said wrong these days. All I had was the jack of all trades one and blood is thicker than water LOL. But you got to those. Also I legit thought, until RIGHT NOW it was "Kitten Cabootle" and not "Kit and caboodle." I just thought it was always a phrase where I don't know what it means as far as the words, like it was just a super old expression, but know what it implies so I never questioned it. I'm still going to say "kitten cabootle" because why the hell not? XD

Mitchell Bowker

The saying "I COULD give a shit" is still correct too. With "Couldn't one is incapable of giving a shit, but with "Could" it implies that one could possibly give a shit, but they don't. Might even sting more that way.

TokyoLopez

The Break-Up is another funny vince vaughn movie, some might call it comedy with serious, idk, y’all would like that i think

Odd Thomas

Freaky is a great Vince Vaughn film

Eric Santiago

Hey George, Owen Wilson nailed that 'wow' right at the beginning of the movie, during the divorce scene (around 3 minutes into the film, hahaha)

akaTheBARON

🖤Full disclosure. When this movie came out, I changed my voice mail message, and kept it as is for a straight year, to "This is Martin (sighhhhhh) whatever (BEEEP)" XD. Even if I was expecting a call from a prospective employer that's the message they'd hear if I missed their call. Never regretted it either.

akaTheBARON

🖤If they liked Vince Vaughn in this movie, they'll like him in Old School too.

Mitchell Bowker

I think he said 'wow' at least 3 times in this movie, the one you mentioned plus 2 more towards the end.

Guillermo Antonio Ricci Alvarez

If you guys didn't know, Isla Fisher is married to Sacha Baron Cohen(Borat) soo yeah, they are a comedy couple

Monica Alarcon

Misquoted phrases "to be put on a Pedal Stool" "damp squid" "it's a Doggy Dog World"

ExtraBigAssTaco

Jack of All Trades is my favorite example of how sayings get truncated and bastardized. As you said, there are many examples, and many of them directly reverse the original intent or meaning. Similar, but not exactly the same thing, is the whole "Pull yourself up by your bootstraps" thing. That was originally meant as a mocking or sarcastic statement of something literally impossible to accomplish. Now people think it's somehow actual words of encouragement...

Steve Mercier

As for Vince Vaughn, I highly recommend both Swingers and Made...probably in that order.

REDR58

Starsky and Hutch the original series is cool. The movie, not so much. 😄

REDR58

If anyone really wants to check out some old-school Christopher Walken, take a look at “The Deer Hunter” (1978) and “Pennies from Heaven” (1981).

REDR58

Likewise, “I could care less” vs “I could not care less.” The latter is what most people mean but everyone says the former.

Crunkljack

1.Swingers 2. Old School

ExtraBigAssTaco

Also, for more Vince Vaughn, check out Couples Retreat, The Watch, and Freaky to name a few.

Chase Lonnergan

The popular phrase that people misunderstand which I find the most entertaining, is kind of a medium story. The phrases "Not worth a damn" and "I don't give a damn" actually have nothing to do with the "swear" word. They originate from the old rural practice of traveling tradesmen. Often, people would use the same cookware for years, and when it would get dented or broken, a traveling tinker would be the one who fixed it. The word "tinker" itself is the name for a tinsmith. They would travel certain routes and fix all sorts of small household items, originally it was just tin, but the expanded into general repairs, hence the word "TInkering". Pots and pans were the most common item they fixed, and it was mostly small cracks and tears they would fix with a small piece of tin that they would cover the hole with to "dam it up". This piece of tin was called a "TInker's dam". Other than for fixing pots or other metal containers, it was useless. You couldn't even sell them for money. They were worthless. So the phrase became "Not worth a TInker's dam" and "I don't give a TInker's dam". Eventually, when TInkers went out of fashion, everyone assumed that the word "Damn" must be the one used, because nobody knew what a Tinker's dam was any more.

Martin

Okay, you guys have nearly completed the essential comedic works of Will Ferrell. You’ve got one more great movie to view, and it also happens to have Vince Vaughn in it: Old School. It’s also got Luke Wilson. It’s a must see, from Todd Phillips (director of The Hangover and The Joker).

Jay Davis

Since you're on the word "damn", when you see a police officer or member of the military, you'll often see them with insignia pinned to their collars (for idenity or rank), or name tags, or award ribbons worn on their chest. They are held to the uniform on the backside with a clasp that is a little metal pin back or brass clutches. Sometimes, we use cheap rubber backs since they are inexpensive. We call them "dammits" because you usually discover one missing by either your insignia falling down on one side, or you get poked with the pin, and then you say dammit.

simon brouillard

Old school and fun fact Isla Fisher is married to Sacha Baron Cohen and its to bad that there isnt any more good movies with her, at least none that come to mind, also There will be blood😉

Johnny Liu

This is one of my essential comfort movies. Really enjoying watching it with you guys :)

Buhr

"Pull yourself up by your bootstraps" (maybe more common in the US than Canada) is another one. It is used now to say that someone did (or should) succeed on their own without outside help. Originally, it was meant to demonstrate that it is impossible to do so.

Grumblefunk

Vince Vaughn: Brawl in Cell Block 99

Grandalf

I'm going to re-post for Swingers here for one reason. George, you may have to take a walk to avoid second-hand embarrassment during "The Phone-Call". Like this comment if you're a fan of Swingers and you realize just how uncomfortable that would be.

Jacob King

“Blood is thicker than water” is a phrase everyone gets wrong to the point it has legitimately switched its meaning. It originated in the expression the “blood of battle is thicker than the water of birth” meaning your friends, the people you fought and bled with in youth are more important to you than the people you are only related to.

Jacob King

If you need an Owen Wilson request The Royal Tennenbaums would be my pick. He has a writing credit. It’s also Luke Wilson’s best work.

REDR58

So the reference to “Jodi Foster” in “The Accused” that Vince Vaughn mentioned is a movie from 1988 loosely based on a true story. It’s about the sexual assault of a woman and the trial that follows. It’s a *very* difficult movie to watch. Foster won an Academy Award as Best Actress for her role in the movie.

Jeff I.

I randomly stumbled upon that movie a while back, and it's surprisingly good!

Steve kephart

Isla Fisher is my celebrity crush. Sure she acts crazy in this. But she has so much personality. She's in my favorite Rom-com, Definitely Maybe.

Hussain Rumaih

Since you're doing Vince Vaughn movies surlyyy Swingers should me considered omg George is would absolutely love it if only for the soundtrack lol. First time watching this movie tho with you guys and absolutely loved it!!

jmundt33a

Definitely a film to capture where America thought it was in 2007. And thoroughly worth watching and enjoying. Ryan Reynolds, Abigail Breslin, Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Banks, and Rachel Weisz.

gobmob2000

A bit of a PSA, but the elderly mother being so aggressive could be due to a age related mental disease such as dementia, and even if she does not have such a disease, she could just mentally impaired due to being senile. This is actually very common of elderly people. Once you start to get older, and a disease such as dementia can compound on it, an area of the brain called the frontal lobe starts to deteriorate, when that happens, this can often present itself in an inability to filter your thoughts. You see your frontal lobe is responsible for giving you the ability to filter what you do and say, you know when you have a thought, but then think "I can't say or do that its not appropriate", your frontal lobe is what gives you that ability to not act upon said thought, it acts as a filter. So when your frontal lobe starts to Deterioration, you are much more likely to act upon these inappropriate thoughts. I know this because I used to work in mental health with lots of senile people and people with dementia. And it was very common for them to be, shall we say, over the top. This does not always present itself with aggression either, for example, it can present itself with sexual attraction, i.e. they get overly horny and start to try and flirt with you, or even grab your bum or do other inappropriate things, such as public masturbation. Yes these things did happen to me quite a few times when working there, but it is not their fault, they can't help it. The point being is, that just because a old person is being inappropriate, that does not necessarily mean that they are a bad person, they could just be old. Give them some slack. These personality changes, as people get older, is also a good sign that they may have a age related mental disease. Most people always assume that it is only forgetfulness you have to look out for in older people, but ANY personality change could be a sign. So if your granddad or grandma starts to get more and more angry and aggressive, or more sexually inappropriate, or excessively happy etc Then its probably time to seek a doctor.

David Zabel

Old School has both Vaughn and Ferrell in it plus Owen's brother Luke. Another great comedy to check out.

Brandon Meng

Swingers is good Vince Vaughn for dialogue. If you want more comedic Vaughn/Owen Wilson, Starsky & Hutch is the way to go. The best movie for either actor, though, is Midnight in Paris with Owen Wilson and Rachel McAdams which I can't recommend enough! A personal, all-time classic!

Choi_Yujin_Stan_Account

For Vince Vaughn...I've been requesting Swingers forever...great movie...hope you get to it soon

Jeff Demarest

Best Vince Vaughn: Swingers, Old School, The Watch, Fred Claus, Be Cool, and Couples Retreat

Alex Ch

Rachel McAdams is absolutely hilarious in the movie “Game Night.” Would be a really fun reaction.

Joe D. MacGuffinstuff

Funny thing is I was just about to recommend The Wedding Singer when you posted this one, it's one of my favorite Adam Sandler movies, and the grandmother in this is also in that but her character is totally the opposite, a sweetheart. And Isla Fisher isn't as funny in Hot Rod, she plays more of a straight character, but the movie itself is hilarious (my opinion, I'm sure some people think it's stupid but it cracks me up, especially Bill Hader and Danny McBride). Also, agree with the other comments, Old School is funny, and Swingers, I think you'd like, it was both Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau's big break but Vince Vaughn has such a baby face in that it's crazy. And you guys have seen enough Scorsese and Tarantino movies that you'll appreciate the references. It's also a hugely quotable movie.

Justin James

Owen Wilson says "Wow" at least six times in this movie.

DeAndrew Greene

You guys have to watch Old School and The Heartbreak Kid now. Similar type of energy and just as funny.

Brandon Meng

I second The Heartbreak Kid. No one reacts to that movie and it's just as funny. It always flew under the radar.

Starman Deluxe

If you want a serious Vince Vaughn movie, avoid the pitfall of the needless shot for shot remake of psycho and watch "brawl on cell block 99"

Logan Nelson

"Practice makes permanent" is how i always heard it.
