“We’re not worthy! We’re not worthy!”

Not only did this film put Bohemian Rhapsody back in the charts and blasting in cars, it was a huge cultural moment. All I can say is growing up in 90s everyone used phrases from this movie all the time in school - “party on,” “excellent”, “game on!”, “no stairway - denied” and “cream of some young guy” were said as often as possible haha

Jason Pratt

♥️♥️♥️ this was one of the more popular skits on Saturday Night Live. I think this has been one of the more successful transitions to the silver screen.

I have such a special place in my heart for this film. When I was like growing up like 16ish and all my friends used to quote and like reenact this film non stop. we dressed like them, spoke like them, played guitar, had bands To this day I can still recite the first like 20 mins off the top of my head and haven’t watched it for years. I no longer see it speak to anyone of those friends but it’s nice to still have the memories! Party on Wayne

You guys should definitely check out the sequel. I think it’s funnier than the first. And while Dana Carvey’s movie career never took off, you should definitely track down some of his standup and in particular his impressions. Dude is brilliant. He and Mike have an… interesting friendship, to say the least. Like it’s a pretty open secret that Dr. Evil is (allegedly) based on Carvey’s impression of Lorne Michaels, and Dana wasn’t thrilled about that from what I’ve read (though he has said in more recent interviews he forgives him).

The sitcom reference was to “Laverne and Shirley” - sitcom from the late 70s/early 80s…and I feel soooo ooolllldd having to explain that…

They didn't react at all to Chris Farley's cameo, which makes me think they don't know who he is. We need to remedy this.

mojo shivers

The film responsible for the resurgence in “Bohemian Rhapsody” popularity at the time. I certainly didn’t know the cultural significance of that song until this movie came along.

I feel like part of the context you’re missing is that Wayne’s World was a very popular, long-running sketch on SNL. So some of what they’re doing is referencing bits and catchphrases from that sketch. Also, the random nonsequitur scenes I think are also a call back to that sketch comedy history.

i love this movie, but i also think its a prime example of movies that dont age well. in that it needs having watched a specific era of a specific tv show that stars 2 specific guests to get the full picture. how confused it became for S&G and thats them knowing what SNL even is. imagine an other 3 decades from now when SNL is faded into memory as nothing more than tv shows from the 60s are like to us now. this movie would seriously make no sense to anyone.

MongoTheElder

I met Alice Cooper at a trade show and he was just a cool dude. He seemed really pleased to meet fans.

Ancient_Red_Dragon

Please Watch the Squeal as well its even better than this one!

Party on Wayne.....Party on Garth.....Party on Buckaroo Banzai

michael clarke

a worthwhile movie from this era 'tommy boy'. i saw you didnt really recognize or point out chris farley. youll love him.

In the same way that Simone gets an "OMG" counter, George needs an "Ok, I see." counter

For more Mike Meyers in his prime, check out "So I Married An Axe Murderer". It kinda flopped when it came out but I'm not sure why. It's hilarious. And has one of the best cameos ever put to film with Phil Hartman (Troy McClure) as a deranged tour guide.

Who Are These People

SNL has had a huge effect on comedy movies. Blues Brothers, this one, Coneheads, are among about a dozen movies just based directly on SNL skits, plus the Extended SNL Universe of former SNL cast going on to other things like Anchorman, Shrek, Austin Powers, Three Amigos, Tommy Boy, Ghostbusters, Groundhog Day, Bridesmaids, This is Spinal Tap, stuff by Adam Sandler, Billy Crystal, Eddie Murphy, Steve Martin (frequent host), on and on . There are few names in comedy movies from a period of 30 years from the 80s through the 2000s that do not intersect with SNL.

Ian Hunt

Give the sequel a go when you get a chance, its great. Also, Merry Christmas both!

Happy Hanukkah

Based on many of the music reaction channels out there, one can only conclude that it has sunk back into obscurity. :-|

Listening to your intro, I can share that I once met Mike Myers in Haddonfield. Calling him a nightmare doesn't even begin to describe it! But then, what would you expect from one of them Canadians, eh?

Daniel Bjork

The “no stairway to heaven” gag is a real thing. It became the go to tune for every amateur guitar player to try and impress everyone with at guitar shops, to the point now that its the “forbidden song” in guitar stores.

Rachel W

This movie has aged like milk.

Richard Flores

Speaking of celebrities with niche skills, Lance Bass is a certified cosmonaut.

CINEBINGE! CINEBINGE! MOVIE TIME! ABOVE AVERAGE!

Dennis Macko

I love that you had so much fun with the movie. It's great. and the second is even a little better imo.

Matthew Doherty

I loved this movie when I was 13, still do. Also an awesome soundtrack.

thomas king

You guys are too young to get some of the pop cultural references from the early 90s. Wayne's World was a SNL skit.

Yes, Dana Carvey plays drums. Fun fact (?): That's a double-pedal set-up, but it's rigged for Carvey to play it single-pedal. Re: Garth's mouth and demeanor, Carvey has always said he's impersonating his brother.
