Definitely the best of them outside of the first, though it's right up there with it IMO. My advise is to stop with this one. I'm not sure the majority of us will agree on that point.

Byron

Heh I just watched this on tv the other day. Hooray! Fresh in my memory juices!

An elephant is always ready to travel because it has its trunk (the riddle using the double meaning of trunk as elephant anatomy and trunk as luggage box)

And yes, NYC did have a bombing in 1993 at the World Trade Center.

If you decide to continue with Die Hard 4 (Live Free or Die Hard), it’s divisive among the fans. I think it’s better than 2 but not as good as 1 & 3. I like 4 because it adds Justin Long and Mary Elizabeth Winstead and they’re fantastic additions to the series. The action sequences are stellar, and it has such fantastic pacing and stakes being built that it’s entertaining. Watch the unrated cut though. That is more violent, bloody, and keeps McClain’s trademark phrase. Do not watch the theatrical version. Skip 5 altogether. That’s the worst of the series. Even for fans that don’t like 4, they can admit it’s better than the soulless cash grab of 5. Hope you watch 4, but if not, it’s all good because this is as good as it gets for the franchise as far as I’m concerned.

So fun fact: this script wasn’t written to be a Die Hard film. It was written as a standalone story, and then bought by WB to be turned into a Lethal Weapon sequel. That didn’t work, and Fox ended up buying the script and rewrote it again into a Die Hard movie. It’s pretty easy to see the Lethal Weapon DNA in the setup for this one too, with the whole bickering buddy cop dynamic.

The Departed is a great movie. It was directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Damon, and Mark Wahlberg

michael clarke

a movie to consider because its bruce willis playing basically the same character, 'the last boy scout'. its from 1991.

You could totally Buckaroo Banzai with a vengeance

A Red Mage Named Blue

I am very happy to see that my username was updated in the Patreon Shoutouts at the end. Thank you, it means a lot

Your reactions are so entertaining. I love this series. I think the 4th installment is underrated. Live Free or Die Hard! Hopefully, you’ll check it out down the road. Good times.

In case anyone else hasn't explained it, an elephant is always ready to travel because he's always got his trunk.

Michael

Now, according to Cinebinge lore, John McCain crashed his jet into the twin towers.

QuiGon_Jim

Die Hard 4 is worth a watch too.

Morningstar

Best reaction thus far😀 had a blast watching it with you both🤘🏻

So, two things: first, it was adorably obvious as George was reading the Patron names that Simone was bobbing and weaving JUST to make the camera track back and forth with her face; and second, I will agree with both points of view on Live Free Or Die Hard - you could not watch it and it wouldn't make your life incomplete, or you can go into it with as low of expectations as possible, and you may or may not be pleasantly surprised. Vengeance was the end of the John McClane With Hair era, and is kind of halfway between 2 and 3 character-wise, as he's back to being more superheroic, but still needs the help of others for knowledge/technical skill-related stuff. Bottom line: if you react to it, I'm still gonna watch, if for no other reason than to see you two enjoying the comedy!

Hard pass on these movies and their sequels 👎 IMHO

Happy Hanukkah

[Surely you don't expect me to pass on a cheap, easy joke:] Yes, and Mel Gibson was very disappointed he didn't get to perform the scene at 4:35. :-P :-P

Happy Hanukkah

Jeremy Irons, eh? Say, did you know there's another wonderful movie featuring him in a very "New York" environment? It's named Margin Call (2011); I might just have mentioned it before. :-) Reaction, pretty please?

The only tidbit I have is that it is very common to "patch" a radio signal between two different systems. When John was in the taxi, he had the taxi dispatcher patch him into the emergency network. I'm not sure if the real-world taxi services were equipped to do that, but the theory is sound. I am a HAM radio operator, and an autopatch is a standard technology to connect to the telephone network. If an autopatch is set up and you can contact it, you can dial a phone number and make a phone call using your HAM radio even though your radio isn't connected to the phone system. HAM radio operators did that for DECADES before cell phones were developed, although now it's largely been supplanted and I haven't used an autopatch in 15 years. With regards to the sequels, I'm of the "pass" opinion. The 4th has some defenders, and I won't call it the worst movie ever, but it's also got nothing to excite or draw me in. Two hours to kill an evening, sure, but not if you want to actually care.

Morningstar

I would love to see you both react to Lord of the rings, I know you have seen it, but I think it would be a good time.😀

Eversharpe

George might know the original Hong Kong film it's based on "Infernal Affairs" which is also great. Which I just learned has 2 sequels, that I now need to watch.

Chase Lonnergan

There are only two Die Hard movies. Die Hard, and WIth a Vengeance. Everything else is a cheap knockoff.

Rob Church

One of the scripts they passed on for Die Hard 3 ended up becoming Speed 2: Cruise Control.

Rob Church

Jeremy Irons giving mad Robert Downey Jr. energy in this.

Drew Acheson

That's a good thumbnail. Well done George.

Shibby

I was thinking about that the other day, it would still be worth doing I reckon.

James Falato

I believe that with "Die Hard 2" was such a "Miss", They decided to "Go Back To Their Origin"... And They Succeeded...

What has four legs and is always ready to travel? An elephant, because it has its own trunk!

Simone, Gray's Papaya is a hot dog restaurant. Every style, kind and variety you could imagine (and many you can't). It was established in NYC as was Nathan's Famous hot dogs, although Nathan's is much older. The first Nathan's s opened in 1919, the year before my grandfather was born. One major difference between the two is that Nathan's tends to stick to traditional toppings and condiments, while at Gray's variety is king. I don't live in NYC anymore, but there are three things I miss the most: the pizza, the bagels, and the hot dogs, especially Gray's Papaya.

Sharla Beverly

I actually love the next one Live free or Die Hard. It's my favorite after the first one of course. I am looking forward to your reaction to it.

Dennis Macko

Fantastic reaction! I love Simone. She is so funny.

Matthew Doherty

Watch out, Radioactive Man! New York is exploding again!

paco2012av

I swear Simones goofy intros kill me lol 🤣

Tony2012av

I always wanted to try that place ever since I saw it on that movie Fools Rush in lol

Kinokind

I'm sure someone will mention that this wasn't supposed to be a Die Hard movie at all. It was a free-standing plot that was adapted to become a Die Hard film. And BTW, are you sure you guys are Canadian? It says "North of the line" in French. Isn't everything co-labeled in French? Not just near Montreal. They should have made a mistake and gone to Windsor - that's just north of the line, too!

RandomNevermind

I think it is the right time to watch Die Hard 4.
