Eeesh I normally watch most of the things you guys do but this will be a skip for me. The Oceans sequels are not worth it IMO but love to you all and I hope the next one is more my flavour ❤️

jmundt33a

Disagree. This is a migraine. But don't let it scare you off 13 or 8. 13 is great fun and 8 is as well. This is the stepchild of the series.

RandomNevermind

Seems like Simone and George should react to The Thomas Crown Affair (1999). Its gonna be interesting.

Timothy Burrows

12 can be difficult on the first viewing but 13 is great.

Byron

I feel like George and Simone’s discussion at the end about what didn’t work about the movie is right on.

Kyle B

The weird sci-fi gadgets always rub me the wrong way in all the Ocean's movies, I think it undermines the supposed skills of this team of thieves.

Christina Doxstader

I envoy this movie but tics easily the worst in the series, it's just too all over the place. Fun fact, Julia Roberts was actually pregnant during filming but she still wore a pregnancy belly because it wasn't that noticeable on camera.

Jeff K

I haven’t watched this movie since the first time I saw it, and upon watching this reaction it’s hitting me that Ricky Bobby stole its plot from this movie: an American some think is the best in his profession, a bored Frenchman who is looking for a challenger to see who truly is the best, etc. How dare you, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay. (Hell, Sasha Baron-Cohen even kinda looks like this dude. And speaking of the Night Fox, he’s in a French martial arts action horror thriller movie called Brotherhood of the Wolf that is absolutely fantastic.)

AlimonyMoney

You have to check out the tv series the leverage. A tv series inspired by these movies. Check out the first one series not the latest remake. The original that started in 2008 -2012 and had a viewership of 4.5 million per episode and a rotten tomato score of 92 and 89 for audience.

Chago_kiba_Lee

Yeah agoraphobia fucking sucks. I have it along with oppositional defiant disorder, bipolar, crippling social anxiety, and ADHD. So yeah it might sound so foreign to people but leaving my house is basically like a new soldier going to the front lines of war on his first day of being a soldier. I have no clue how that actually feels but I could only imagine.

MPH

As a soldier, I think it's probably more like how some combat vets feel when they come home after war.

Elroy

You guys should watch Toy Story

Byron

Brotherhood of the Wolf introduced me to Monica Bellucci for which I’ll be forever grateful

Jeff K

A-freaking-men. (It was also my first real introduction to Mark Dacascos before he just became "the guy from Iron Chef"; he's so absurdly badass in Brotherhood of the Wolf.)

Mike Miner

I liked this one! Maybe it was the music and randomness for me. BTW a ton of people react to the Oceans films, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone react to "Out of Sight"., which I think is the first film Clooney and Soderbergh worked on together. Between the music, the photography, Clooney just oozing charm, I think this is where Soderbergh developed his style for the Oceans films. Believe me, I NEVER thought I'd love a movie where there's a romance between Clooney and J-Lo, but it's more of a crime thriller than anything, based on an Elmore Leonard novel. Good crimey stuff :)

MasterElodin

I mean I never was at war or even close to a frontline but panic attacks can make you feel like you're dying so I don't think the comparison is too bad.

E. D.

I haven´t watched any of the movies yet but I think I understand what you mean and I agree. It undermines their skills, yeah. The Ocean movies are not sci-fi movies, as far as I know, and too sci-fiy gadgets are often unexpected and out of place; and it feels like the screenwriter wanted a shortcut, he wanted to cheat to achieve something that is not possible in the real world, whereas the protagonists´ skills and how they work together is more fun to watch.

MPH

No need to apologize. Real mental illness is serious shit. I'm just saying PTSD is maybe more comparable than combat. Facing real danger is serious, but adrenaline and training go a long way to help keep your cool during the actual chaos. People with PTSD feel like they are still in that danger even when it's long in the past. At least fear in combat makes sense. One of the worst parts of mental illness is that it feels like it makes no sense. You feel all this shit just because. It sucks.

I don't know how accurate the stories are -- they're all repeated-from-somebody-I-heard-from -- but according to The Internet this movie was made almost as an excuse for the main cast to hang out together in Europe. They wanted to be flown here on the studios dime and be able to stay together for a long time, and so everything else was thrown together to justify that. That's why it's less tightly scripted and plotted than the first one. This time they didn't CARE. This also apparently lead to some friction between the returning cast and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Again, not vouching for the accuracy, but I've seen quotes attributed to both Clooney and Pitt along the lines of "We were just having fun together. She thought she was making a movie". The "shipping a priceless treasure in an unassuming package" bit is taken from several real-life examples where museums really did that. They'd send diamonds and antiques across the world in regular postal packages, but then hire armed guards to post on shipping lines and float rumors that the items were there. None of the postal packages were ever misplaced.

"Pure charisma ... hot men. ... [Benedict]'s not the villain." Well then, you have no choice but to watch a younger Andy Garcia as "The Saint" in Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead (1995). If my say-so isn't sufficient 😲, here's a taste of Garcia's character: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUS_TMhFMFc [ADDED:] While representative of Garcia's main character, the clip is not representative of the movie as a whole.

Happy Hanukkah

The Purloined Letter. "None of the postal packages were ever misplaced." You couldn't put this in a movie today; there are limits to suspension of disbelief.

Chago_kiba_Lee

I agree for me at least one of the worst parts of my disability’s is that I’m fully self aware of when I’m in my manic or depressive states I do and say things for long periods of time that are completely illogical but I can’t help but to say and do those same things

Travis H

The Julia Roberts twist is one of the dumbest twist ever put in a movie….and I love it with my whole heart and will die defending it!🤣 13 is a must watch and a return to form, and 8 has a good cast and is just fine.

QuigonJim25

This is the Die Hard 2 of the trilogy (imo). The 3rd film is decent

QuigonJim25

Also, for more Catherine Zeta Jones AND more Tom Hanks I'd recommend 'The Terminal'. Directed by Steven Spielberg too

Happy Hanukkah

I'm always happy to see CZJ, but where did Angie Dickinson disappear? :-P

tundra

Miller's Crossing(1990). Early Coen Brother's. Worth a watch. Blood Simple(1984) and Raising Arizona(1987) are also great early Coen movies.

bfunk3778

Thank you so much for finally doing this movie. I love it so much. Saw it in the theater. I’d like to offer some recommendations of other movies if you don’t mind. I Love You Man Real Genius The Abyss The Conjuring Oceans 13 (obviously) Please do Ted Lasso season 3! Rounders

Happy Hanukkah

Since both you and Nathan have mentioned Miller's Crossing, I shall recommend another Coen Brothers movie, and this one is even more relevant in that it stars George Clooney and Catherine Zeta-Jones: Intolerable Cruelty (2003). It's a Coen Brothers take on the classic screwball comedies.

Jeff K

And they reacted to Jackie Brown already, which is obviously connected to Out of Sight since Michael Keaton plays the same character in both.

Jeff K

I know a lot of people rag on The Terminal but I have such a soft spot for it. I watch it any time I see it on TV. Such a great cast (which, I mean… duh. A Spielberg/Hanks movie is gonna attract a lot of talent).

Foodassassin4life

Please watch Big Fish, its a great movie with Albert Finney, Ewan McGregor and a lot of other great actors

Tyler Foster

Jeff: Spoiler. That's better as a surprise, IMO. Glad to see people other than myself pushing Out of Sight. Great movie, and something Soderbergh obviously cribbed from for this one in particular, with the cop-criminal romance, and even and the little freeze frames. Definitely in the top 20 of movies I'd love to see G&S watch.

Tyler Foster

It's also their second take on screwball comedies, following The Hudsucker Proxy (1994).

Mike Miner

Damn I might have to watch it again on my own! Steve Zahn and Ving Rhames too! One of the only movies I actually bought the soundtrack for back in the day. And the cinematography? Who is Soderbergh's DP? Oh yeah, he does it himself under a fake name. What a legend!

Jordan Barnes

Imagine being in the theater for the “Julia Roberts is coming” reveal, the entire audience exploded. It’s been so long since I’ve seen this movie I completely forgot about that part until the build-up. The scene trying to “prep” her is fucking hilarious.

bfunk3778

More movies to add to the list. Dead Poets Society (Robin Williams) Glory (Denzel and Morgan Freeman in the same movie) Amistad (Spielberg)

Jon

the first one was pretty good... the second one was... pretty not good

Kron0n

I was never a fan of this one. However, I do like Oceans 13. I think they realised what people liked in the first and just did that again. Which you can say is boring but there's enough variation to it to make it fresh.

Justin Leone

I think I'm in the minority of those who slightly prefer Ocean's 12 to 13. Neither is as good as the original, but while 11 and 12 both strain the limits of plausibility (the EMP device and the holographic egg, respectively), 13 just abandons it entirely. The cast has good enough chemistry to make all of them fun movies, but all would be better if they never fell back on some of the more unbelievable contrivances.

Smooticus

Since they mentioned John Turturro's scene in Miller's Crossing, you now HAVE to see this movie for context You won't regret it. Trust me
