Yay, after the first one I was hoping so much you'd quickly follow with this one. The opening scene is arguably the best opening of a comic book movie to this day. Fight me! ;)

Kangdarius

This is still like my 2nd favorite X-men movie.

Jeff K

Eh, I would put this one above Infinity War, personally. That said: The Dark Knight has the best opening to any superhero movie ever, IMO. (Edited to add: I think at least part of the reason I prefer this opening to most other superhero openings is because Nightcrawler was always my favorite X-Men character as a kid, so not only seeing him on the big screen for the first time, but leading off the movie with a badass action scene showcasing his powers blew my fucking mind.)

guyincognito

This is hands down my favorite X-Men movie. However all of you somehow managed to misspell Watchmen.

Jeff K

Had a feeling this would be today's movie. I do enjoy when my predictions prove true.

Jason Pratt

I haven’t read the comics in a looooong time, I think it was retconned, but yes in the comics Mystique was Nightcrawler’s mom.

Kangdarius

Yes, mystique is night crawlers mother in the comics. His father is in a future X-men movie lol

Kangdarius

Y’all definitely in the minority. Ik for years this was seen as one of the best openings. Not in my circle but on the innanets. no way is this topping thanos vs hulk + Loki death for me. I don’t consider TDK a comic book movie so it’ll nvr be on my list.

MrX_1985

In the comics, Mystique is Nightcrawler's biological mother and Rogue's adoptive mother.

Simon Ham

Not a lot of exposition and world building in that one, so no. /ed Maybe Dark knight is slightly better upon reflection

Lobo is a parodic DC Comics character who is (partially) a parody of Wolverine, including having an extreme healing factor. With Lobo they do (sometimes) have each drop of blood regenerate into a whole new person. When this happens, all of the Lobos then fight each other to the death (Using only smothering, so no new blood is spilled) with the last one standing then going on to exist as the "real" Lobo. That's the Main Man for ya!

Jeff K

Fun fact: Wolverine actually HAS been cut in two. More accurately, he was ripped in half at the waist by Hulk. Basically, if you can think of a grotesque injury to inflict on Wolverine, it’s probably happened.

Nathan Jasper, the Artist Formerly Known as Primary

In Torchwood, Captain Jack Harkness has similar properties to Wolverine in the sense that he cannot die. He heals from any wound. In season 3, (spoilers just in case) a bomb destroys Torchwood HQ and what was left of Jack was collected in a body bag. The pieces refused themselves together and Jack's body grew back, and Jack felt every painful second of it. Healing from a bomb is not only your body piecing itself back together but your skeleton regrowing, your guts regrowing, your skin regrowing, burn wounds.... And you're aware for all of it. So similarly, wolverine's body would just piece itself back together.

BoredLittleLady

The 90s animated series is amazing. You should watch it.

Reiji Kobayashi

I assume Marvel characters have souls that inhabit their physical bodies, so whichever bit Logan's soul decides is the main bit would be what he regenerates from. Of course, this begs the question of what the soul is made of and what happens when THAT is cut in two.

jmundt33a

Nightcrawler is her son.

Wrencher86

On the last one I mentioned that X1, X2 and Logan are considered "The Good Ones" from this series, but I forgot to mention The Wolverine. It has a divisive third act but I think it's pretty well regarded otherwise. And, if nothing else, it's very stylish. You do have to know what happens in X3 for the story to make sense though.

Jerrett thompson

So with Iceman in this movie could not stop the dam from busting not enough control/power but more importantly not enough knowledge about what his actual power is. In the comics he has been made into an omega level mutant. Which I forget what it means but if memory serves me right they are able to destroy planets. That or they could change reality in some way.

Wrencher86

His healing ability is all over the map, depending on the adaptation. In some runs it's said that you could kill him by decapitating him and keeping his head away from his body (I think Doom does this at some point). Implying that he doesn't have unlimited regeneration abilities. Then there's the drop of blood thing, which really begs the question of whether his new body would have the adamantium in it.

JoeNotCharles

I believe the original idea in the comics was that Mystique was Nightcrawler's FATHER, but they chickened out.

Jeff K

I... never thought about that before. You'd imagine since the adamantium was grafted onto his bones, it absolutely would not be part of his "new" body. I shall now simply choose to ignore this and just say, "Oh, right: comic books."

Jeff K

With one of the greatest cartoon theme songs ever. To the point where, correct me if I'm wrong, haven't they kinda bled the song into some of the scores of the more recent X-Men films? That cartoon is also the pinnacle (outside of the actual books) of the story George does not want us spoiling in the comments, which the last shot of this film hints at.

Jeff K

Wait, is that actually true? Because since Mystique can be anyone, well... it would certainly be, in theory, feasible if she can also change biological elements of herself (talking sperm here). I'd never heard that, though.

Jeff K

I'll be curious to see what you guys think of X-Men 3. It's by far the worst of the original trilogy, but honestly, having re-watched it via reactors a couple times now, while it has a lot of stupid shit, it's not nearly as bad as its reputation, IMO. There's enough decent stuff to still make it a worthwhile watch.

michael clarke

yes. they just made this cannon, but it was always the writers intention. the editor wouldnt let him pull the trigger on it, so it was left open.

Jeff K

First Class, too. I love that one. I won't spoil it but the part that takes place in South America is one of my favorite scenes in the entire X-Men franchise.

michael clarke

x-men 3 is too silly to be a good movie, but there is at least one scene that is good, and you do have Kelsey Grammer as beast. that was colossus. some mutants on screen are random and invented, but some are icons just doing a cameo. just recently they made it cannon that mystique is nightcrawlers father. mystique receives imprints from the people she imitates. if you go along with the series you will see a similar character in xmen first class and that is who mystique got some of the dna that was given to nightcrawler. as you can imagine, the internet freaked the fuck out. this was literally last month this all happened and with the climate around trans people there was a lot of bad takes, people accusing them of ruining the creators characters by making them "woke". this is of course bullshit because the author always intended this. editorial was too bigoted back in the day to let him do it. so its literally the opposite. their bigotry and hatred was ruining the character. WATCH THE TV SHOW LEGION. its a show centered around charles xaviers son so you get some really good lore, but.. the main character has god like powers, so the writers had a field day. the show introduces philosophy better than any tv show has ever, and is legit frightening at times. there are scenes scarier than any horror movie ive ever seen. here is a stand alone scene introducing a philosophical idea. its from the show, but dont worry, its not spoilers. its completely stand alone. im just trying to sell you on how brilliant this show is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DYcyw3r8SeU

Wrencher86

Yeah, First Class and Future Past are good. The separation between the timelines gets increasingly blurred as things go on, but I consider the original trilogy and dedicated Wolverine movies to be separate from the McAvoy/Fassbender stuff.

Wrencher86

I mean, it's pretty bad (which tends to happen when the director gets replaced in the middle of production). But it gets you to The Wolverine, which I thought was pretty solid.

Kangdarius

Wait, huh?!? EDIT: just read it. Man they being complicated for no reason lol

Jeff K

I always love when people get up in arms about comic book stuff being "woke" or whatever other word they wanna use, as if comic books haven't always been one of the most progressive forms of media in the world.

Happy Hanukkah

Simone, you've got a Charlie Brown on line 1. (Yes, I too loved Friends with Benefits. :-P ) Regarding Simone's naming of names: One of us! One of us! "He's got a frickin' tail!" Is that tail prehensile, Mr Nightcrawler, Sir?

Happy Hanukkah

And introducing Simone as ... Wolfsbane!

Mike Miner

I really loved LEGION and wish more Marvel properties were done more creatively. I've been a fan of Marvel since I grew up in the early 80s, but the movies are all kind of disappointing to me. I'm glad people with a newer perspective like them though! LEGION is just so trippy and great; I wish more people knew about it.

Ethan Holgate

That thumbnail is good I'll give you that 👌😅

Phoenix Lennard

ok i'm convinced you guys and jen murray are synching your reactions with one another 🤣

S C G

Simone looks amazing with the Wolverine hair. Much approved.

Nathan Swapp

Velcro belt because no metal around Gandalf the morally grey

Jay Davis

Wrong answers only - What was the thing in the water at the end?

Com1xguy

Yes! A Legion watch would be incredible. And it isn't too long either.

Simon Pegged Me

Colossus can turn from human to metallic human at will. It's been like that since the beginning. In Deadpool, he's always in metallic form, but I think that's because he's completely CGI.

Jinyatta

Not gonna lie, if I were a mutant, I'd probably be rolling with Magneto and his crew.

Kyle King

I forget if its this one or the first one you asked the question, but I have always had the lamest answer to which mutant power I've always wanted: Forge. Inherent knowledge/ability to invent and create anything.

Koonce

I dig the comparison between Jean Gray and Imogen!

Godrick

In cannon, Yes mystique is Nightcrawlers mom and his dad is a member of a demonic sub race of mutants that were banished to another dimension by angels during biblical times.

Godrick

George is right Iceman could freeze it all, turns out he is an Omega level mutant (so watch out for him in the mcu films) but in the comics he doesnt realize his full potential till he starts haning out with spiderman... not a joke XD

BoredLittleLady

Yes, I won't spoil the storyline either but the cartoon did a great job with it. In truth, I'm more fond of the 2000s X Men Evolution series but I would only recommend it to people that love different takes on established characters.

latsöm

I can't really describe how awesome this was at the cinema as a (light) fan of the comics. It starts with A WATCHER, and ends with X? Absolutely incredible. Also please watch all these movies.
