OMG what a treat - if we don't get In the Mood for Love for a romance movie, this is a great consolation prize. 🙂 LOOOOVE this movie, and loooooove Jet Li, Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Donnie Yen, Maggie Cheung, and Zhang Ziyi! ...I think I might have equal size crushes on all of them. 😁 I hope y'all get to In the Mood for Love soon.... I just saw it a few months ago (after meaning to forever) and it fundamentally changed me. I can't put into words how beautiful it is.🥲

I remember my brother and I being huge jet Li fans. We saw this trailer and was like “jet bout to have a classic”. Had Tarantino backing it and everything. Maaaaaan by the middle of this flick I was knocked out sleep lol. After crouching tiger, than this. I knew any “kung fu” flick hyped by America was not gonna be my style. Thankfully jet had kiss of the dragon and unleashed later on.

Joe Williams

I'm convinced Tony Leung is the handsomest man in cinema.

Kniggit

This movie is *beautiful*

Some of the visuals remind me of Tarsem Singh's The Fall. Honestly, I feel like I need to rewatch both movies as it has been a while since I've seen either.

A Red Mage Named Blue

My favourite Jet Li movie is probably Forbidden Kingdom, where he stars alongside Jackie Chan

Finally! You've been trying to foist second-rate material on me, but I've been Holding Out for this one! I shall now watch this with Miki-chan. By the way, we'd already have seen Jet Li on this channel if you had gotten around to the fourth installment of a certain franchise... :-)

RogueRN

I know it was mentioned in the AMA, but we need more of Simone’s singing :-)

Yeah, love this film for so many reasons but, ultimately ... Maggie Cheung (okay, not ultimately, but she's a big reason). If you love her, along with "In the Mood for Love" watch "Irma Vep" at some point (on your own, it would get super low engagement). She plays herself in a plot of her starring in a French director's remake of a famous French film.

George's input makes me love this movie even more. I hope you get to Warriors of Heaven and Earth and House of Flying Daggers

jmundt33a

Have you done House of Flying Daggers?

Well this was a pleasant surprise today! George is correct about why Tarantino's name is on the poster. There was a series of "Quentin Tarantino Presents" films in the early/mid-'00s that he helped push for a wide theatrical release in America, or DVD re-releases. They got his name for marketing. Over half were non-American films (Including "iron Monkey", which I think may have been my first ever exposure to Donnie Yen), but there were also some low-budget American horror and independent films that he thought more people should see. Say what you want about Tarantino -- and there's a lot to say -- but he is PASSIONATE about films and filmmaking and he tries to share that as much as he can. I would love to see more Wuxia films on the channel. It's such a great joy to re-experience them for the first time, and also get cultural context.

Mr TV Eye

Great choice. Kung hei fat choi Simone & George

Saw this in the theater. Blown away. Was already Crouching Tiger fan but this was next level. Thanks for doing this.

Kyle King

Great movie no question. But I do like Fearless just a little bit more.

Wrencher86

A Jet Li movie that I don't see mentioned much is Unleashed (terrible U.S. only title, the original was Danny the Dog). Jet Li, Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins (Eddie from Roger Rabbit). If you only know Hoskins from Roger Rabbit, you're gonna be in for a bit of a shock on this one. The score is also done entirely by Massive Attack. And if you don't know them, allow me to introduce you to your new favorite band.

I remember being blown away by Crouching Tiger in the theater, and then going back to it after seeing this, every scene seemed amateurish in comparison...

mcfierce24

An absolutely amazing movie. Glad Simone got to experience it.

latsöm

Speaking of Everyy frame a painting I've been watching Samurai Jack lately...

Trevor Rotan

So George, you’re showing Simone Fearless next right?

Ryan Alexander

still say "Kiss of the Dragon" is his best film
