I haven’t gotten to watch this since I snagged the 4K release. Excited to see what yall think. *edit* Mundane thing going on in my life since you asked. I have these hue lights that sync with whatever I’m watching on TV. I’ve been adjusting them and organizing my little movie space. Here’s me watching Revenge of the Sith with your reaction on too https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cxuq6wCOEFS/?igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

Uh.. I built Lego Cherry Blossoms. That aside Cameron Crowe’s got an interesting filmography worth checking out - Almost Famous, Singles and Say Anything all had some impact on pop culture during their time through music, quotes or memorable scenes. Very much a somewhat forgotten filmmaker these days in a way. Also Cuba Gooding Jr’s Oscar speech for this is still a great watch

I recently beat bg3 honor mode and the outcome confirmed what I already knew... save scumming is the way.

Lola Lirola

Listen, no diss to anyone, and I will have fun with the reaction along everyone else, it's all good, but just... I swear the incredible irony of having the most dudest of romcoms win the only poll where women's stories had an inch of a chance will have me shaking my head till the end of time! 😩😅

Lola Lirola

Almost Famous is an incredible masterpiece of coming of age within pop culture, in a landscape where most coming of age stories are rural/small town idyllic, and I love that it grapples with a lot of what it means to be cool, to create, to exploit people for art... It's so good, I hope they watch it one day. Singles is also a big time favorite, and it has become an incredible time capsule of 90s grunge emergence (it was released exactly one year after Nirvana's Nevermind, so probably was filming at around the very time the grunge scene suddenly exploded). Incredible soundtrack on both, as well! Because Crowe used to work as an actual rock journalist, and he still to this day makes monthly mixtapes/playlists as a sort of diary, which is an idea I love.

djKENTO

Hootie and the Blowfish was a band that was very popular in the 90s and their lead singer Darius Rucker looks a bit like Cuba and they legit got confused for each other by people for a long time. Probably their most popular song -> https://g.co/kgs/87zQcih Shockingly just yesterday Hootie was arrested for cannabis possession.

George how did you know what I do on Valentine's day?

Joshua White

Yay! I can't wait for this evening.

djKENTO

Yes… THAT Clarence Thomas. In 1991 a woman named Anita Hill accused him of sexually harassing her at two different government appointments while he was working as her superior.

Ph4ZeD

You aren't wrong but I suspect the vast majority of patreons are male

8bitAndy

I've seen this come up in a couple sports reactions, so I'll try to explain. When a player is a free agent it means their contract has ended. When their contract ends they're basically unemployed. In this movie, it was a risk for Rod to become a free agent because he wasn't thought of very highly as an athlete and if he became injured or had a bad season, it was likely that no teams would offer him a new contact at all and his football career would be over.

I bought two tomatoes the other day. THey weren't good. They had no taste. Tasted like water. Tomatoes these days ain't what they used to be.

Bryce Lamkin

I recommend Son's of Anarchy as s show to watch please, it has 7 seasons

Monica Alarcon

I was going to comment about other things but I forgot everything when I saw... George has a cat!!!

Ben

I really hope you guys just make an executive decision to just watch 'You've Got Mail', I think it would be such a fun reaction.

DarthChef

I had In-N-Out burger last night for dinner...got my usual 3 by 3...I hadn't had one in awhile and it was good...but for some reason the last 3 bites were the most yummiest and tastiest bites...don't know why

Elder Lyons

it got second place on the poll which means they will, they always watch second place.

Lyle Morgan

Almost Famous is my favorite movie and I am certain you two would love it.

Vellu

Now you have once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to continue this Classic Cruise streak with Rainman (1988).

Odd Thomas

Probably my least favourite Cameron Crowe movie. Better ones: Vanilla Sky Almost Famous (I actually liked Aloha. Shoot me)

Odd Thomas

A great Renee Zellweger movie is Cold Mountain with Nicole Kidman. Civil war movie.

Jeff Demarest

We need to get George to watch some earlier Tom Hanks movies so here is a list, in no particular order: Splash The Money Pit Nothing in Common Big A League of Their Own Philadelphia That Thing You Do!

Joanthan Skidmore

If you enjoyed this, you really should watch Erin Brockovich

George, If you were with me, you wouldn't be here in this strip club shaking it for dollar bills!

🖤The whole Michael Scott Paper Company arc totally borrowed from this. I think we were definitely meant to associate it with this movie. Entourage pretty much did a version of the "walking out to start my own business, who is coming with me" plot as well. This movie has been heavily referenced and parodied over the years. Won't say in which movies but I've seen the "I'm not going to do what you think I'm going to do and FLIP OUT" thing in a couple of movies, Night at the Roxbury did a funny little parody scene from this movie, The Dark Knight when joker said "you complete me" was referencing this I'm pretty sure, and the line "show me the money" was used to death in countless mediums. Especially in the 90's/early 2000's.

Things happening in my life: I live overseas working at a U.S. Embassy Just started online Masters program where I wake up at 0200 every Thursday for a virtual class Going on 9th year of marriage, 3 kids Just found out wife is pregnant with #4, haven't really told anyone I have no idea what I'm doing

Grandalf

Must watch, VANILLA SKY. Cameron Crowe and Tom Cruise again.

sarCC

My favorite movies from Cameron Crowe are Almost Famous, Say Anything..., and Fast Times At Ridgemont High(he wrote the screenplay, Amy Heckerling[Clueless] directed). ALSO, a note on Vanilla Sky: it is a remake of the film Abre Los Ojos(Open Your Eyes). Penelope Cruz stars in both, but the original is the best version. It's definitely an OLDBOY situation.

Brandon Meng

That reaction was amazing and everything I wanted it to be! Recommendations that I feel like may elicit similar results: Punch Drunk Love About Time Love Actually Midnight in Paris Forgetting Sarah Marshall 500 Days of Summer Silver Linings Playbook The Wedding Singer While You Were Sleeping She's Out of My League (jay baruchel love c'mon) Hitch Simone has mentioned seeing You've Got Mail but I don't remember anything about Sleepless in Seattle. big list because i would be geeked out if any of these movies caught steam cheers!

REDR58

The TV show Jerry was watching in the beginning was the original “Hawaii Five-O” (1968-1980) and that was Jack Lord (playing Steve McGarrett), the head of the fictional Hawaii State Police (Hawaii has no state police). Jerry’s fiancée Avery is played by Kelly Preston who was married to John Travolta from 1991 until her death in 2020 from cancer at age 57. The US version of “The Office” is superior to the original UK version. 😃

John

Kelly Preston is one of several reasons to watch Twins

Astraeos

Gonna throw out October Sky again. Definitely needs to be added to The List. Super great movie, based off a true story. Early and great performance from Jake Gyllenhaal.

pedantech

Can we get As Good as It Gets (1997) on a poll?

Chase Schleich

In your TriviaBinge segment you mentioned that Tom Hanks couldn't do this movie because he was busy with "That Thing You Do". You should add that movie to your list. The main song in that film will be stuck in your head forever after watching it.

Juley

I’m shocked that you didn’t know about Clarence Thomas. He went through a long, drawn-out confirmation and the whole country was glued to the TV. It was all about his history of sexually harassing women he worked with. The accuser that testified at the hearings was Professor Anita Hill (there were other accusers). She went through details. My generation still remembers about the time he said to her, “Who has put a pubic hair on my Coke?” Also, all the descriptions he gave of porn involving rape and sex with animals and when he compared himself to Long Dong Silver (a porn star). For many years, that was the way everybody knew him - the sexual harasser who got onto the Supreme Court. Clarence Thomas defended himself by calling the hearings a “high tech lynching.” As you can imagine, it made it publicly complicated for white senators to vote against him. The vote was 52-48. It wasn’t a party line vote. Tying it to present day…one of the things President Biden was highly criticized for was how he handled the Clarence Thomas hearings. He was the leader of the all male Judiciary Committee and led the hearings. The Senators on the committee were vicious to Anita Hill. It was one of the reasons his other accusers didn’t want to testify. There was one other still willing to testify, but Republicans didn’t want the visual of another accuser and Democrats were afraid she’d just get vilified like Anita Hill. So they didn’t let her testify. A large number of women were elected to Congress the following year.

Shelley Lloyd

I'm really glad that y'all watched this before finishing Ted Lasson season 3... You will see why lol

Patrick

They would LOVE October Sky. One of the most underrated movies.

Patrick

NO guy would celebrate Valentine's day if they didn't feel pressured by women, who are pressured by advertisement agencies to not feel lonely haha The woman who advocated for the creation of Valentine's day for St. Valentine, later tried to have it removed as a holiday once she saw how commercialized it became.

Jack Urmson

A total joy rewatching this with you two! ❤️🙏 One of my favorite movies. Highly recommend watching some of Cameron Crowe’s other movies. Say Anything (1989) Singles (1992) <——this movie was a loose inspiration for the TV show Friends. Almost Famous (2000) Some of Tom Hanks’ more comedic movies are Big (1988) Sleepless in Seattle (1993 although I’m sure Simone has seen this) Larry Crowne (2011 a movie that I think is very underrated) Keep up the good vibes and look forward to the polls, plus whatever’s next! ❤️🙏😊

Patrick

I never realized that Jim Bruer scene where he quits his job from the record store in "Half Baked" was a parody scene from this movie. Edit : I was looking up what tv/film that little kid has done since this, and it's wild to see that he's only a year younger than I am now and he's a Ju Jitsu black belt haha That kid is wayyyy too cute to be kicking ass!

Young Blood Priest

Glad you guys liked this movie. This is in my top ten rom-coms. A list topped with When Harry met Sally Side note: R.I.P to Carl Weather (Apollo Creed and Action Jackson). Sorry to high jack the thread but I had to get that out there.

Dustin Duvall

Jerry O'Connell, the football player "Cush" (Jerry's other client) was the chubby kid from stand by me

Logan Kerlee

Niiiiiiice. I'll be enjoying this later tonight or tomorrow. :)

BangDroid

My Valentines day I'll be doing my usual, buying a 24 pack of Krispy Kreme donuts and eating them in bed watching comfort shows (The Nanny, Futurama, Seinfeld etc) until I pass out.

BangDroid

"I have no idea what I'm doing" Sounds like maybe a bit of imposter syndrome.

Jesse Coombs

In the spirit of rom-coms, here's another request to for y'all to watch Linklater's "Before" trilogy. Also, a request to watch maybe the first rom-com, "It Happened One Night". They are all very charming.

Christopher Feiertag

Coming straight from your „There will be blood“-reaction. If you want to see Tom Cruise really act, you should consider watching Paul Thomas Anderson‘s „Magnolia“ at some point. He plays only a supporting character, but it is his finest hour. Especially one scene with him in it stands out. (you will know it when you see it)

Rob Howard

To be fair, Tom Hanks was a FANTASTIC romantic lead in Big. I'm guessing that George hasn't seen that, so THAT would be a GREAT reaction for you guys!! :)

WastedPo

I'd like to recommend (not for the first time) "Born on the Fourth of July" (1990) if you'd like another dynamite Tom Cruise performance.

Lyonheart86(BryonH)

rudy, field of dreams, and miracle are must sees.. miracle has some historical political context to it as well which makes it more interesting . 2 out of the three of these are based on true stories

shaneth138

Haha I absolutely love Vanilla Sky and Almost Famous, but Aloha is legitimately one of the worst movies I have ever seen 😅

shaneth138

I don't really get the correlation to each other lol but yes they would definitely love Erin Brockovich 100%

shaneth138

I cosign the many other comments suggesting Vanilla Sky. An even better Crowe/Cruise film. Also an awesome "reaction" movie. A bunch of very classic reactable scenes.

Angela D. Mitchell

I think this movie has some wonderful moments, and it's beautifully acted, I just can't take the romance seriously on any level. The ending feels like Jerry "settling" desperately for this sweet woman and her child because -- as always -- he can't be alone.
