That thumbnail, George...

Rupert Purcat

G'day, about time you sheilas watched some Aussie movies - Precilla Queen of the Desert next please.

Matthew Wabals

TELL HIM NO LEAVE IM NOT GONNA MARRY RICHARD!!!!

jmundt33a

How did this have 3 sequels including a Danny McBride one? Costarring Margot Robbie? That feels like a nightmare, not even an elevator pitch.

Daniel Dawson

Aussie here. I think this movie is the ducks nuts

Jeff K

Well, the one with Danny McBride and Margot Robbie wasn't a real movie, it was a Super Bowl ad for Australia's tourism board. But the actual sequels are... oof. Especially the one in Los Angeles.

Niklas Ericsson

Linda Kozlowski actually left her husband for Paul Hogan while filming this movie.

Roddy Hutchinson

The sequel is better in my opinion. A couple of fun movies to watch!

Jeb Manning

Great movie. So much fun.

Jeb Manning

I would recommend the 1984 fantasy movie The Neverending Story directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starring Noah Hathaway, Barret Oliver, Tami Stronach, and Alan Oppenheimer for its 40th anniversary, if that's OKay? It's about a boy who steals a book that tells of a young warrior who has to stop a dark force from destroying the fantasy world known as Fantasia. However, not all is as it seems with the book. It's one of the best fantasy movies ever and a huge testament to why practical effects creatures are the best. It's really fun and definitely worth a watch.

Zero Cochrane

That’s not a knife. THAT’S a knife!

Jeff K

I think you forgot the title: The Neverending Story, for George and Simone

Matt O'Keefe

I was 10 years old at the time this came out. I knew little about Australia then. I knew about Kangaroos and Koala bears and that's about it.

Nicholas Jensen

Super fun movie. The second one is worth checking out also, it is equally fun. Don't watch any sequels after that though.

Rayna & Mike Sitter

This thumbnail is fuckin' MAGIC! 😆 Sweet ass, George!

thomas king

Watch Crocodile Dundee 2. Its real good too

Jason Pratt

I definitely think the second is worth a look. I’ve never seen the other ones.

Darin Foat

The ending scene where Mick walks on the crowd's upraised hands always reminded me of an actual incident I witnessed on my first visit to New York City. Some friends and I were in a big movie theater in Times Square waiting for the film to start. There was a little boy there with his parents, and he had a balloon. He lost his grip on the string, and it floated up to the ceiling, beyond his reach. Four men in the crowd stood and put their hands together, boosting him up so he could retrieve is balloon. Everyone applauded. Then, just as the lights were going down for the movie to start, we heard a loud "pop". Everyone let out a massive "awww".

KomoUpNorth

Yes, they actually got married and had kid or kids and just recently split in the last few years.

Helly R

I would say a movie like 'The Castle' is more quintessentially Aussie than Dundee, which, like Steve Irwin, seemed more popular in the US than Australia. I would recommend Animal Kingdom as good Oz crime Film with some familiar faces.

Jonny

You should watch Crazy, Stupid Love! It is comedy gold!!

Terry Yelmene

Everything about this... was great!

Brian Sittler

Excellent movie. I was born in Australia & raised in the US (Aussie mom & American dad). I was 7 when this came out & everybody liked it. Definitely have some pride associated with this one.

0:34 "I'm sure you're not the only one," she lied most unconvincingly. :- ) 2:14 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=it1ITXRcS9w&t=1108s 4:42 I can see that, and it works for her. 7:40 LOL knowing what's about to come. 8:30 Folks, Simone wishes to apologize for breaking the counter. 19:20 Ba-dum-tss! :-) 27:10 Only two freeze frames?! Sure, lord it over us with your fancy broadband internet! By the way, J. Geils says hello. If you want a much more broadly comic Australian outback movie, it doesn't get any better than Fair Game (1986)!* * I just might be lying.

Matt O'Keefe

It is insane that this movie will be 40 years old in 2 years. I know that is how time works. I will be 50 next year myself so there you go. Kinda feel basically 50 too.

Jeff K

I refuse to believe that. No, in fact, it cannot be true. I'll be 44 this year, and I WILL NOT accept that Crocodile Dundee is nearly as old as I am.

Martin S

I loved this movie when I first saw it, and still love it, but then I saw the second one. And I really think it's one of the few movies where the sequel is better than the original.

🖤"Dear Diary, George has done it again. He did the thing where he gender swaps two characters in a movie they watched for the thumbnail and puts his face on the woman's body and Simone's face on the man's. It's always hilarious and a lot of fun. However, when he goes the gender-swap route, the George portion of the thumbnail always makes me feel things. Things that I dare not say even to my own therapist. I wouldn't even know WHAT to say. Best way I can describe it is when you're in school, and your teacher helps you out with a problem and instead of saying "thank you" you say "I love you" and you know everyone in the class heard it. But thankfully I have you my diary... the dearest of them all. See you tomorrow. LOVE Baron XoXoXo" Just sharing today's journal entry (it's a journal, definitely NOT a diary) with you two. Love what you're doing here. Keep up the good work <3

Joits

"That's not a knife. This is a knife!" I'll never not love that line.

michael clarke

part 2 is a lesser movie. not nearly as charming. the real life crocodile dundee died in a shootout with the police in the early 2000's. also:fuck transphobia being the joke also: land back now!

As an Australian I've always found this film cringey. Its embarrassingly 80s, and they really lean into the ignorant country bumpkin angle. US culture permeates Australia. Even in the 80s it would be extremely difficult to find someone so clueless about basic things. This movie was a lot of North American's only reference for Australia and so we're all considered country bumpkins who drink fosters and don't understand escalators. Looking past all that its a fairly standard love story. Reminds me of Rocky.

Aaron Gunstone

Mate, chill. He's an exaggerated caricature, sure - but it's not like you couldn't find people out in the sticks just as bumpkin as that. Especially in the 70s/80s! The film makes it very clear just how remote and tiny "Walkabout Creek" is. You'd have to be pretty silly to think that someone from any of the cities, or even decent sized towns, would be like that. That's like assuming all Americans are like the hillbillies in Deliverance. I was - am - a lot more annoyed about the "Throw another shrimp on the barbie" ads ;)

RayJ

Wow, that's the most cancerous thumbnail yet!

Peter Dillard

The chemistry is real. They wound up together as a result of this movie.

Luke

As an Australian I have mixed feelings about this movie. On the one hand it plays into the stereotype of what many people overseas think Australians are like. I live in Sydney. I am a fat and lazy office worker and the only time I have seen a snake is in a zoo. On the other hand this movie also really boosted tourism for Australia which was good for the economy so that's nice. Oh, Simone that thing roasting on the open fire wasn't an Iguana, it was a Goanna. :)

Alexander Brown

Just think of it as a movie about anything past the black stump, rather than Australia in general. I'm a Sydneysider too, but I get out of the city as often as I can, and it really is kind of like that. Sure Americans don't know the difference, but just think of it as an opportunity to take the piss. They don't know you've never seen a Hoopsnake.

molly

kind of unrelated but another aussie movie, would love you guys to watch The Castle (1997)! an absoulute classic haha

brian burke

i'm in illinois, USA, but i have seen a few great australian movies, the road warrior is awesome. also the castle is pretty funny, and even less big films like the tunnel and on the beach movies. can anyone recommend any cool science fiction movies from australia?

brian burke

also i heard paul hogan and his wife linda from the movie had a really bad public divorce in australia, so i guess the love really didn't last. also i recommend the documentary NOT QUITE HOLLYWOOD about australian film industry, anyone else seen that?

Magnificent Gojira

Hartley's film is great and hilarious. I've seen most of the films mentioned there and must say that great chunk of them is really worthwhile
