Yes the Grave was Ser Arlans former Squire. Ser Arlans nephew actually. It was briefly mentioned in episode two that he died in the Battle of the Redgrass Field. That was the battle that ended the first Blackfyre Rebellion. I am sure the Blackfyres will be explained better in future seasons, so i won't spoil too much. In that battle Baelor and Maekar fought so bravely that they earned their nicknames: The hammer and the anvil.

The lances they used were war lances with sharp metal tips. I think you could see them in some shots. What an amazing episode. I was so afraid the whole episode was going to be a flashback (even though the flashback was pretty good). The battle was gruesome, grounded, and messy, and that’s what made it amazing. Great reaction as always, fellas! You guys kick ass!

SushiBoy

this show is FUCKIN PHENOMENAL

SushiBoy

i think this episode and episode 4 is some of the best content so far within the GOT universe. holy shit they were so good

Frank the Tank

I really wish more of the fight was less CGI it took away so much of the intensity

The minute Baelor said his fingers felt wooden I knew it was a wrap……

I'm Batman

Man I hate that the next episode is the last one, maybe they will make it like an hour long for the finale, wishful thinking.

In the book, Dunk gets pierced in the side by the lance, the prince knocks him off the horse with the morningstar, and gives him a few more hits before they start grappling on the ground. Here they extended it into a full duel, with Aerion as a much deadlier fighter and Dunk taking a lot more wounds. But as simple as Dunk’s armor was, it definitely did its job. The helmet stayed strong and the chainmail prevented the blades from going too deep. Baelor dies the same way, but in the book, they make it clear that his skull was basically split in two, and the broken part falls out of his helmet when it is removed, with his brain actually fully exposed.

Mister Lou

Little Egg still found a way to steal the show! I know he wasn't in it much, but his scream to was and little cute "Ruff!" at the beginning is what I remember most, besides he gore.

Anaïs

I feel so bad for Maekar, having to live with what he did. You can tell that he was just in dad mode when he saw his son get beat up

Wasn't expecting a flashback mid-battle, but it was needed for us to find out more of his (tragic) backstory. The entire battle scene was magnificently done, admire Ser Duncan's resilience to keep on fighting despite his injuries & liked your reactions for willing him on too! that muffled sound design for the final battle was a nice touch & really added to the atmosphere of how Duncan was feeling in that moment, then they hit us as hard as those men were with each other with that emotionally shocking scene at the end!. Also that place they walked past in flashback kinda looked like Casterly Rock & yay for the "suck it" pose guys! hehe.

It was still good overall, but I was honestly kind of let down by this episode. The flashback sequence was pretty generic and definitely needed to either be shortened a couple minutes or continue the tension from the trial because the pace stalled. They extended Dunk vs Aerion which I like, but didn't focus anywhere else, which was a complete waste, and handled Baelor tastefully but too subdued IMO.

Classic Game of Thrones giving you an epic episode only to rip out your heart at the end

Tati

Baleor wore his son's Valarr jousting armor. The helmet didn't fit him properly it was too tight that's why it injured him so badly 😭

Alyssa Dyson

This is one of my fav episodes in the GOT universe.

PhatBoySteven

I swear no one has it worse than horses when it comes to GoT or TWD lol

Ron

A dead dragon. A great beast with wings so large they could cover this meadow. It had fallen on top of you. But you were alive, and the dragon was dead.

Alyssa Dyson

I think the flashback helped me care more for this character and in doing so made me root even harder for dunk but they could have extended the fight a tiny bit to show more of the other people, but ultimately this is dunks story so focusing on him most of it made sense.

Denver Gray

I like the idea, just felt like they could have dialed it into a tighter, more cohesive pace/tension. The book being from Dunk's perspective and limiting the "view" of the fight works fine enough, but with tv being visual and the Trial of Seven being so hyped in-universe as rare and unique, not really showing much of what makes it special is...just inherently a little disappointing, that's all. Also justice for Beesbury, barely introduced and off screened lol

AllyBoo124

If I was a crier baelor’s death would’ve done me in especially with egg screaming for dunk beforehand
