"Mudd's Passion" Full Reaction! - Star Trek: The Animated Series Season 1

Another fan service episode, this time revisiting one of the TOS's favorite guest characters, Harry Mudd -- and yes, Bunny, that IS Roger C. Carmel back again to voice Mudd for this episode. Overall I agree with you on this one Bunny -- it's great fan service, very funny episode, we get to see a new side of Spock and learn more about other characters, it's a good plot for the episode....but the limitations of the cartoon do show itself here, and there's some serious plot holes. Stephen Kandel wrote the script for this one, and he was the one who had written either the script or the screenplay for the TOS episodes with Mudd. As such, he nailed Mudd's personality and character perfectly. Like you I'm not really sure what happened with the rock creatures at the end. I do believe one of them started to feel affection not to the other but to the landing party, but I'm not really sure about that point. Of course Mudd didn't mention how short lived the effect of the love potion -- which was a good thing or he would have been killed along with everyone else on the planet! I'm also not sure just what Mudd's 'genius escape' plan was here -- he was going to stay on the planet, without food and water, till the Enterprise gave up and left I guess? Or he was going to try fleeing via shuttlecraft, but that could be easily picked up by the Enterprise. I'm not sure just what he was thinking. Cause if he was going to do the latter he could have just kept Christine as a hostage. Also the scanners on the Enterprise wouldn't have picked up that Mudd had kept some of the crystals on him? I'm also not sure why Mudd was so easily confessing to his crimes at the end of the episode -- perhaps he was still under the effect of the love potion? Anyway, in conclusion, even with all these weaknesses, it's still a fun episode, only it could have been a great episode as opposed to just being good.

OK, this is just a brilliant concept for an episode. What if Harry mud essentially dosed the entire enterprise with ecstasy and chaos ensued. Brilliant absolutely brilliant concept for an episode, but you’re right Bunny the one thing that falls a little bit short is that you don’t get to see Roger Carmels brilliant physical acting abilities, which is half the fun of Harry Mudd character. This is one where you might actually profit from just listening to it as an audio play and filling it in in your head without seeing what’s on the screen if only for that reason. Also, one of my very favorite deadpan, Spock lines. “ That’s an outstandingly stupid idea!” That made little graviton back in the day shoot milk out his nose

I agree with bunny's comments about this episode. The Christine Chapel focused scenes are fun and the character is attractively drawn. I can see why it would melt even Spock's heart(!). Sort of reminded me of The Naked Time, which has been reprised in other series, about how the crew is again struck by mind-altering drugs. Kind of average Mudd story line. It feels like they don't focus on him enough in TOS either, Mudd's Women went off on the side story of the miners and their lottery brides and I Mudd kept repeating the joke about Stella and spending most of the time on the androids. At least Mudd's Passion gives him a little more time if not enough. I hope bunny does do a Godzilla movie. I recommend Godzilla Minus One and Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack, both are available.

This episode is hysterical! I can't! XD

You must watch the Strange New Worlds series of Capt Pike era Enterprise stories for more Spock and Chapel interests, and then there’s a Mudd episode early in the Discovery series
