Awesome watching with you Bunny! I think I watched this Episode three times. So much to it. I recomend you don’t edit these lol Ironic cause I do some editing with you but since its on now it would be better to give us your full reax here with so many next gen eps to edit. Not a spoiler but this is two years before the first Alien. I wonder if weyland yutani got these from the same LV426 planet derelict ship that Ripley and crew ended up being diverted to that would be really cool. I also think the crash was accidental. Its very cool we are learning about another of the 5 planet ruling companies with prodigy up until now we have only known of weyland yutani

Well, that was interesting. This was the first time I ever watched an internet reaction at the same time with something I myself was seeing for the first time. It was quite fun! It’s quite novel not knowing what’s going to happen any more than the reactor. As I have come to expect from your Trek reactions, you were quite astute in your observations Bunny. I hadn’t planned on watching this but I specifically decided to give it a shot when I saw you had posted this. Thoughts. I definitely loved the aesthetic and feel of the show. I think you were spot on in describing the vibe as “ Alien vs Blade Runner” and since, as I’ve said before, Blade Runner is my favorite movie I am totally digging that. I hope the continue to dig into the existential aspects. Not only of what it means to be human Burt also the question of whether a”copy of a person is the same person once the original is gone. In Trek there was always the question circulating among fandom of whether the crew were committing suicide every time they used the transporter. This type of thing has been a theme that’s been explored by many science fiction stories and it’s always facinating to me. There was a bit with the Lost Boys where they talked about “pushing down the bad thought” in the new bodies they have. Quite ominous. Hints at mind control and engineering the thought of the population. Something potentially sinister there. If I had one criticism it’s that the pace is just a tad slow, but then again I suspect that is a deliberate choice in order to build tension. If so, I feel like I need a few more episode before I get a feel for how well that will work. All in all, a very promising first episode. It’s got me interested in this world and these characters. If you stick with it Bunny I’m in. Definitely not gonna watch ahead, I like the idea of sort watching for the first time along with you (in a virtual sense)

Aliens was the closest we got to earth before. Thought Weyland Yutani controlled everything really interesting that they do not. I thought Alien 3 blew it by not having the 4 make it back to earth with an egg

Bunny, thanks for doing this reaction. Without it, I probably would have skipped this. From people I normally trust, the reviews have been mostly unkind to say the least. But, I have to say, based on this first episode, I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. * Regarding the hybrid kids: Are they really the right "entities" to send in for a search-and-rescue mission? Even if they are somehow given all of the training they need, I don't think they would have the necessary emotional stability to deal with all of the traumatic situations they would likely encounter in an evolving catastrophic accident like this. Like it was mentioned in Blade Runner, these hybrids don't have much real-world experience and definitely don't have the emotional stability necessary to deal with stressful situations. Maybe the show will prove me wrong and show that the kidbots are actually more resilient than I their experiential age. But, if they do this, I hope that the writers at least address this issue. Now, if you drop a platoon of Datas into a S&R mission, I'd be a lot more optimistic. Maybe I missed something (I'll have to rewatch), but, if this was a search and rescue mission of an (what appears to be) an accident, why are the teams sweeping the rooms as if they expected to encounter hostiles? Normally, wouldn't you go in with medical equipment and first-aid gear for survivors?

I hope it's good too!

Hmm yeah. After watching a couple more episodes it would make sense that the crash was accidental.

The fact that you are watching with me for the first time also is pretty exciting and doesn't happen around here often! There will be 8 episodes in this first season so completing it shouldn't be too tough for me. "also the question of whether a 'copy' of a person is the same person once the original is gone" That's a really good question! I hope they explore that more.

Yeah I don't really get it. A couple people in YT comments, when seeing this upload on my schedule, told me this show is bad and not worth watching. Is the general consensus that it's not good? Maybe those people are more diehard Alien fans than I am, and are seeing inconsistencies with the lore or something?

Hey Bunny, My view on the general vibe for A:E has been mixed: some people really love it and some really hate it. It's very polarized. Personally, I've had a hard time suspending my disbelief on a lot of modern movies and TV shows (esp. with Star Trek from 2009 and afterwards). For example, I'm still trying to watch Andor, but I'm having a hard time getting through the 2nd episode because of how damaged the IP is. For me, the Alien franchise (through Alien Covenant) have been ok for me in terms of being able to suspend my disbelief. I haven't seen Romulus but am wary of it. Same with the Predator prequel, Prey. For Alien Earth, I'm just happy that I can suspend my disbelief enough that I can enjoy this show (so far). I hope this continues.

the whole copy of a person thing is largely not really a thing anyone thinks about in the show (with a couple of notable exceptions) ....its a routine form of transportation for them...no different than getting on an airplane or helicopter.
