Preaching to the Horse's Mouth

Always just through the lens of my own rankings, probably the first episode, after EaFP, that I would consider "very good." A very Star Trek-ian story, high concept, tech-y, exploration of space, the universe is more than we know or can even conceive sorta deal. Stuck at work for the time being, excited to check it out afterwards. Until next week, B🖖

Following up on the previous content, I agree that this is a very good episode. Probably the best episode so far that we've watched together on here. Of course there are advanced races out there keeping an eye on the Federation and who they are and what they do -- it's been brought up before, so it makes sense that the race the Traveler belongs to hasn't made contact until now. WHY the Traveler decided to be the first and engage with a human to explore new places isn't really fully explained, but he's a good character and we learn a lot about him in a short period of time. And as you pointed out Bunny we're starting to see more character development, especially with Picard. Patrick Stewart is indeed a great actor -- I've seen him in almost everything he's done and he always does it very well also. He loves Star Trek and is willing to engage in fan events and parodies for the love of the franchise. One of the funniest things to read now I think is how he said for this first season he was living mostly out of his suitcase and was afraid to really unpack into his apartment cause he was convinced the show was going to be canceled at any moment. We saw at the start another Excelsior Class ship, which just again shows how this 'old class' by now is still going strong. I really didn't like Wes as a character at first but he grew on me as the show continued, and this episode was an important point for that. I don't like the 'special treatment' thing the Traveler was talking about here, but he's clearly very smart and wants to learn so making him an acting Ensign seems fit -- and a good reward for the work he did. Another nice tie into TOS here with the title and some of the concepts used (your thoughts becoming reality). Only in this case it felt fresh enough that it landed, not so much in past episodes. Finally, I always did wonder just what the exact role of the specialist (I can't even spell his name) was in this. He's clearly Starfleet but his collar has no pips, so he's not commissioned. NCO perhaps?

Great episode

Meh episode, not bad not great. The acting was better, the Traveler and Kaszinski were fine. Bunny recalls "Shore leave" for the thoughts become reality meme. Here it's not the main story, just a feature of the the mission. People's good thoughts didn't seem to prevent the Traveler from being sucked into a parallel universe. It seems like the crew thought that the Enterprise was just improving the engines, not doing a time/space experiment. Of course refits are typically handled at the nearest shipyard, not during deployment. Turning people's thoughts into physical reality seems less dependent on psychic connection than looking at an individual's emails, search history, and Amazon cart. Then there's Tasha, who comes from a Federation member planet that seems to have been a basket case.

When I first saw this episode, I was mesmerized. Very good. On a side note, they mentioned general quarters quite a few times. I always wondered what the quarters for a general looked like, but they never show it. %) It's like when a general in a battle says, "Fire at will." I always think, who's this guy, Will, and what did he do to deserve that? On the Wesley issue, you may see where he gets his 'wonder boy saves everyone' reputation. The writers were a bit heavy handed with this concept and Will Weaton paid a price. Unfortunately, because of this, everyone wanted to 'Fire at Will'.

A fun episode. I like The Traveler, Wesley did good in this one. And Kiizinkski got put in his place. Kizinski had no pips , probably not being a line officer. Different designation ( My Opinion only, having been in Navy) Like JAG, Engineering Corp. Warrant Officer Specialist. *. I did the whole TOS on Apple. I bought it 😁. Not because you watched it, but because I wanted to watch Trek when I could. It is smoother and I don't have to re sync after the ads. You'll handle it on your end . No worries. I just like having " A Piece of the Action". 😇 😁 🖖

I am so far behind, but I’ve been pretty sick (much better now)! Hoping to catch up soon!

There isn't really any such thing as a "center" of the universe. The best understanding of astrophysics we have right now is that the universe extends infinitely in all directions, and that, from our perspective, we are at the "center". Also that it's "curved". So that if you went far enough in one direction, you'd eventually end up back where you started. This episode gets into some more fanciful concepts for sure.

Some Trek you can buy on amazon video and also don’t have to worry about adds, I went add free and it did remove all but that opening paramount logo for TNG and DS9

I like this one. It’s still got a little bit of clunkyness, but it’s a pretty good bit of big “ultra cosmic” sci-fi. Some nice character development for Picard and Wesley. Wes was kind of a divisive character at the time. He was kind a pet character of Roddenberry’s and he rubbed some fans the wrong way. He’s pretty good here though IMO. As has valready been mentioned, the idea of either a “center” or an “edge” to the universe is kind of meaningless according to or current best theories and understanding. That doesn’t really bother me in this episode though as I’m pretty sure the whole point is that the acceleration they experienced was so far beyond anything conceivable by starfleet science that they were just kind of grasping for words to describe a situation that couldn’t be described. But yeah, if you “head-canon” it that they ended up in the same place that Kirk did in the Megas episode of TAS, it totally works (I do)! if I was going to nitpick anything about the science in this episode. It would be that they ended up near a galaxy at all after their first jump. Space is by far mostly empty. The odds of that happening if you just go zipping off in a random direction in the universe is so small as to be basically impossible. By all rights, they should’ve ended up in the middle of nowhere. I suppose you could say that the Traveler guided them towards a galaxy somehow. Not a big deal. lol, yes another “no shit, thanks Troi” moment. The writers haven’t quite figured out what to do with her empathic powers yet. I always figured the Traveler told Kazinski he needed him at the end because it would put him (Kazinski) in a positive head space, so to speak. Hey, every little bit helps.

This episode made me cry dang it specially the scene with the captain and Mamama just thinking about a chance to see your family member get a chance to see and talk to them again even for a moment . And ya Patrick Stewart acting was amazing as he's been a long time theatre actor before he started tv and movie roles and yay Wesley

Eric Rinehart

Also I was shocked that they didn't send a data pod out while they were 300 years away from home or the other region to collect some data that they could while they were in the other galaxy's like data mentioned to explore or get some analysis of the zone's they visited

Eric Rinehart

Ya can only imagine Tasha see the federation as her savior from that hell

bunnytails

Hmm. It's a hard concept to grasp for sure.

I bought TNG on Apple and it seems to be working well on my end.

bunnytails

So THAT's where the phrase comes from! Hahaha

Grey Invader

Wesley is Special. The Traveler is kinda creepy. Hwil Hwheaton Vol. 1.
