Battle for the Planet of the Apes - Full Watch-along

At least it ends on a more hopeful note. I have the Extended Cut and it looks like you watched the theatrical version. My finger got a workout re-syncing it a few times. I did enjoy your reaction, Bunny. You may wish to seek out the Extended Cut and watch it on your own. Most fans say it is better than the theatrical cut.

Well I suppose this movie gave you a little bit of closure and it made you happy

Thanks for letting me know about that!

You may want to consider reacting to the short lived Planet of the Apes TV series. There was also a very short lived animated series, Return to the Planet of the Apes.

John Houston as The Lawgiver! You can't do much better than the voice of Gandalf from the Rankin/Bass adaptations of The Hobbit and Return of the King. With that voice, he could read Webster's Dictionary from cover to cover, and I'd sit there mesmerized.

I only had a couple of them, but I wish I still had my Mego Planet of the Apes action figures. I really wanted the Ape City Playset. I did have the Star Trek Playset, along with Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Sulu, Chekov, Uhura, and the Klingon. If I recall correctly, the Gorilla Action figure was a reused Klingon action figure with a Gorilla head and hands, as well as Gorilla accessories.

Did you notice that Virgil's theory about time and parallel universes is very similar to Hesslein's theory from Escape from the Planet of the Apes?

A great reacts bunny! Ciao Aldo!

The mutants reminded me of the Road Warrior/Mad Max gang. Rather odd that none of them noticed that the ape casualties had no wounds. Guess they made up for the oversight when the apes splatter the murants' brains on the bus interior. I have no idea what the final shot with the statue of Caesar miraculously crying meant. France Nuyen, the mutant woman in the lost city, Severn Darden as Kolp, Lew Ayres minding the armory, Paul Williams' eye language, and the great Claude Akins as the ape general, do yeoman's work for what was really a TV movie.

If you want to continue with Planet of the Apes, I would suggest you just skip the Planet of the Apes (2001) remake, it is stand alone and pretty terrible. I would suggest you go straigh to the new remake saga, starting with Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011).

Edward M. Crowe

There is a good analogy I can use to pique your interest in "RISE of Planet of the Apes", that is still not a spoiler. We could conceive of CGI as going through "generational" leaps and bounds. Remember the portrayal of the apes at the beginning of the movie "2001 Space Odyssey", which you saw. Then compare that to the portrayal of the apes in our first "Planet of the Apes" movie with Cornelius and Zira. Then extrapolate that yet again and we get "Rise of Planet of the Apes". Plus, there is an interesting contemporary twist to the entire story-line! Definitely deserves to be a Movie Night Bunny!

Wow. Barely remembered this one. The actress who played Alma (mutant woman), France Nuyen, her voice was nagging familiar. It cames to me, she played Elaan of Troyius. It's been a blast watching your reaction to this last installment.

Mark Gosine

Oh, and A kills B, and B kills C, and C kills D, and D kills E. Before you know it, no one knows what the F is happening.

Ohhhh I didn’t notice but yeah, now that you said it I can definitely recognize her

I looked into both... kinda hard to find streaming anywhere...

The next Apes movie is Planet of the Apes (2001). It's not as good or popular as the most recent ones, but it's not nearly as bad as its reputation and is atleast as well known as some of the sequels you watched. If you want to build your audience towards the more recent ones, I wouldn't skip it and I wouldn't wait too long either to lose the momentum you've built up with these reactions.
