you must also think that it must have been quite the cushy life in the last year for the "fake" Jin's attendants. They are rid of the very bossy and cruel person who ordered them around - but still get to make requests "on her behalf" so stuff like laundry, food, maybe some luxuries etc. And all they had to do, was to get the fake Jin to step in once they knew Jinshi would soon visit. I can imagine they would be quite motivated to make sure the missing concubine did not go off to get wed. And this is just a glimpse into the intrigues - as there is 2000 women in the rear palace afterall. Including the servants. The show obviously can't show each persons power dynamics or relationships - but I think this was a very nice episode to deepen the lore of the rest of the rear palace, and not just have it as "set dressing" for the rest of the cast. Not to mention the enuchs - those also have a power dynamic and while they are also mostly background - you have the one in s1 who didn't get rid of the powder. And was it entirely his fault? who knows. So maybe some could have been bribed to help bury the lady Jin's remains. or maybe it was just the desperate ladies in waiting. Not every mystery needs to be solved, and that is very similar to real life I feel. There are things we want to know - but will never truly get all the info from. I just really love this series lol. I am speaking on conjecture and MaoMao's father would be very dissapointed in me. (but hey - it's fun!)

I would argue differently. She, a low born, was being forced to replace a middle concubine by attendants likely of higher social status than her. She was at the whim of the attendants demands. Any time Jinshi or the emperor showed up, she had to be terrified about being discovered. If they ever learned the truth, she would be executed for deceiving the emperor (along with the attendants that forced her to.)

Oh I didn't mean the low concubine had it cushy - but the attendants. They just dragged the poor girl in as a prop whenever she was needed.

This episode was a peculiar one in my opinion since there were many twists and turns but I liked that it highlighted the realities of the women in the rear palace.
