Idk if this helps but I am not english native and this is how I understand the name of Shisui. Shi = As in "she" the pronoun Sui = the combination of the verb "sue" and the letter E at the end

Gyokuyo has quickly become one of my favorite characters in Apothecary Diaries, I see why the Emperor appreciates her. 👩🏼‍🦰💕 Her playful teasing not only challenges Maomao and Jinshi but also encourages them to think critically and respond with intelligence, enriching their dynamic relationship. In the beginning of this episode, Gyokuyo cleverly suggests that Jinshi has feelings for Maomao, playfully provoking a reaction from him. This interaction not only showcases her witty personality but also highlights the intricate dynamics between the characters. Jinshi often strives to maintain a composed facade, yet Gyokuyo’s playful jabs 🥊🤭 reveal his vulnerabilities and the nature of his feelings for Maomao. 😺👀💓 Her role as the playful instigator adds a delightful layer of humor and tension to the scenes, making them truly memorable. Once you finish the entire series, I would love to see a character ranking similar to what you did for Attack on Titan. I’m eager to find out where Gyokuyo would place in your rankings!

If you just want to hear what the names are supposed to sound like, open up Google Translate, set the source to English and translation to Japanese, then plug in names like "Shisui," "Loulan" and "Suiren" to hear how they're supposed to sound. Katakana (the English spelling of Japanese) spells out Japanese syllables the way they are supposed to sound, and was created as a cheat tool for Westerners learning Japanese centuries ago.) Edit: I deleted a whole paragraph continuing on the education of pronunciation of Japanese. LMAO. (Note: I'm super anal about pronunciation that I can actually hear the difference between "there," "their" and "they're." It frustrates me to no end when I hear people say, "they all sound the same.")

Should I not look at the translation in Chinese rather than Japanese as the names are Chinese names?

The anime and voice acting is all done in Japanese with Japanese pronunciations, other than a few tidbits like "Xiaomao." While setting the Chinese output is likely more accurate to how it should sound in Chinese, it won't match what the voice actors are saying in Japanese. (I just tried this myself.)

Hello! I'm a little late but I'm done with school for now! Yay! My frog comment before now makes sense, Welcome to the avatar the fandom uses to represent Jinshi, as Maomao already has her cat. You might already know this but again another line to note is that fact that the "gun" is called a feifa, as well as seeing the design for the type of barrel. This indicates that using gunpowder in projectiles, specifically in a weapon of war, is a fairly new invention. One that a "commoner" like Maomao wouldn't know of but a high standing official would. Especially if he is trained in warfare and weaponry as we have seen with him fighting Basen and having calluses. Also, the reason Jinshi knows (and maybe Basen too) of this waterfall, is due to the fact the emperor came here every summer. In such Jinshi would have to go as well and probably went in the forest to play but was guarded by Basen (as he is born into the family Gaosen is in, who's linage protects the royal family hence why he is a high ranking general and invited to the hunting party). Also I really love how we can see Maomao really start to feel comfortable around Jinshi. Doing things we see her doing for those she cares about (taking care of them, providing medicine, being aware of their emotions) and how she is more comfortable touching Jinshi. I love the authors way of using slowburn as sometimes the tension prevents the characters from actually relaxing and enjoying the others company. This author does a great job preventing by showing moments of growth between Jinshi respecting Maomaos boundaries and Maomao pushing her own to meet his (this will come up later too).
