I AM DECEASED!!!!

Also poor Maomao - the emotional trauma of knowing that no matter how much you cry no one will comfort you. It truly has stunted her when it comes to how others feel especially in relation to herself because she's been taught to emotionally detach and never rely on anyone.

My heart breaks for her but it makes her reaction to Jinshi all the more understandable. She's confused because she's never had anyone want her in the way that he does. These emotions, both his and her own, are so strange to her that she doesn't understand them.

After all, she talks about being devoid of love and never knowing how to love because of her mother in S1. Poor girl is going through it as much as Jinshi in trying to come to terms with what she's feeling!!

I clicked the moment I got the notification, I'm watching now but had to compliment the amount of unintentional double entendre in the first minute of the video.

... And this is why the Greninja on my Maomao playthrough of ZA is only "decent sized" and not an Alpha Also the number of people who call this series pro-SA because of the previous emperor and Jinshi is insane. Just an utter inability to read what the show is presenting. "Should I kick him?" Thinks the girl who is actively ignoring everything about the situation while she wraps her leg further around his waist.

The phrase "God Bless This Frog" hasn't aged very well. (Maybe??? haha)

Too many people misunderstood the frog scene, the internet was a disaster when the episode came out = Jinshi is abusing his power………..😩 a lot of reactors just jump to conclusions that Jinshi is a piece of trash (specially male reactors maybe they needed to keep the image of “a good guy shouldn’t do that and SEE I AM A GOOD GUY” without thinking about the nuance of Jinshi and Maomao relationship) of course a man pushing himself on a woman is literally a nightmare for any of us… but they literally talk shit about Jinshi because they are not watching the show, just making faces while the episode is running, I LOVE this ep but watching reactions is a pain in the ass, I never comment because my English sucks but I needed to thank you for your goated analysis! You never take things at face value and i love that

I'm pretty sure that Gaoshun isn't a Eunuch, and what we hear in this episode is just the 'story' they made up for him to be working alongside Jinshi in the rear palace. Remember we see in S1 that he also drinks the medicine that Jinshi drinks to pretend to a Eunuch, but doesn't mind if the effects become permanent because he already had his kids. Pretty sure he wouldn't drink it or say that if he was already one, only reason I can think he would is if it was purely for poison testing, but even then I don't think he would have said he wouldn't care if it did affect him permanently if he already was a Eunuch.

Your nails are so festive, I love them! I also think the Emperor pretty much favors Jinshi to inherit whether he knows he is his son or not. He is very much gunning for him to take over one day (taking him to the shrine of choosing andproven correct, Jinshi still doing legislative work on top of his job as a eunuch/ ‘keeper of his garden’, not naming an Empress even though he had two other male children who sadly passed away soon, but they were still born!) even if Jinshi does not particularly want to (he thought that ‘he should hurry up and make himself some heirs.’) I think one of the main plot points of the show is the question of inheritance and succession as so tragically introduced in the first episode. Even if one of the high consorts has a boy who lives to a viable age, it does not guarantee a clear case (as you said) as 1. Jinshi the brother has been considered the heir for so long and 2. the Emperor is biased towards Jinshi. And that is a powerful combination.

"Hmmm, what's this ? *squeeze Maomao ! Jesus christ It's funny that you had the reaction I think alot of us had , losing our goddamn minds. The part after where he lays her down i suppose. I didn't know what to think to be honest it seemed kinda forceful but I don't know. Also there childish ah argument , you forget he's 19 😆 .also you know how she gets don't lead with the medicine present brother

The official and his party "disappeared " funny that

Count Curry

The longest name in the show has been revealed! Dont worry, only the emperor will ever really call him by that name. Most characters will address him in that persona as 'crown prince' or 'moon prince'. Ka Zuigetsu Kah Zoo-E-Get-Sue Kah(the sound eagles make) Zoo(where animals are kept) E(as the letter of the alphabet) Get(get money) Sue(the girls name)

Count Curry

Some language trivia, his name is written as 華瑞月 Ka(華)- His family name, means Flower Zui (瑞) could mean several things, good omens, beauty, youth Getsu (月) means moon Zuigetsu (瑞月) his given name, means something like "auspicious moon", which is part of the reason he's reffered to as the "moon prince"

Ryuuji Gremory

I am pretty sure the "That's how it is" at the end of Gaushun's explanation is a somewhat awkward translation (not that I can do it much better) that is supposed to indicate that "That's the story they are going with" That Gaoshun having pissed off the empress and being made a eunuch is the cover story they are going with to explain why someone from a old and important family, that "has served the emperor's family for many generations" as Basen put it, like him became a eunuch. That's why Gaoshun is drinking the same medicine as Jinshi to "suppress his manhood". You know the one that eventually might actually make them impotent, a worry to which Gaushun just commented that his children are already adults and he has another grandchild on the way, instead of saying that it doesn't matter to him since he is a eunuch anyway. There is another awkward translation at the end there with Maomao "making Jinshi a real eunuch" it says "if he get's me in trouble" in the subs but from what I heard she was actually in a grateful mindset and was saying that if he get's into trouble because of it she will help him by making him a real eunuch.

5:00 I've been waiting for this reaction. LMAO. 28:38 I don't think he actually angered the empress, probably opted to become a eunuch as a show of devotion to the royal family. In my opinion, the story about angering the empress is just a means to hide the true reason he became a eunuch. IDK, I've been wrong before, lol. 30:27 The way the official treat's the crown prince reinforces my theory on why the prior emperor was locked away by his mom. She wanted to limit the spread of rumors affecting the royal family. Once again, this is purely my opinion. 30:36. The tragedy he is likely referring to was the death of the emperor's son (Lihua's child,) meaning he is still without heir. 30:18 I love how Gaoshun reinforces how important Maomao is to every powerful person she gotten to know. Jinshi, Jinshi's mom, the emperor, and Gouyokuu, they all highly value Maomao's intelligence and morality. Honestly, she would make the perfect retainer for any one of them, knowledgeable and faithful. 36:11 and thus the anime finally spells it out for anyone too oblivious to figure out who Jinshi was by this point. lol 40:25 I believe Jinshi, himself, explained why he's hiding himself. He just doesn't want to be part of a power struggle for the throne. As long as he's out of the picture and deemed a terrible replacement for his brother, no faction would try to force out his brother in order to make Jinshi the emperor. We can look at history to see how many royal families were destroyed by power struggles for the throne. Pronunciation help of the episode: "Shishou" is pronounced like "She-Show-ooh," 'ooh" as in "Oooh, Aaaah." The "Show-oo" flows together so quickly that you almost don't hear the "oo" at the end.

Buzzard

Poor Jinshi. A harsh upbringing, two assassination attempts that we know of, the stress of living a double life and keeping his true identity secret, the girl he loves constantly rebuffing him. He just can't catch a break!😰

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I actually cut the part where I discussed Gaoshun taking the same as Jinshi and whether it was an act because I thought I was being foolish and misremembering 😂🙈

Back in S1E17, Jinshi used the name "Jinka" when they went out. Maomao noted that adding the "Ka" (character means "flower") was an odd choice. It's actually the same character ("Ka") as in his real name Ka Zuigetsu. I thought that was a nice detail. :D Anyway, I WAS SO EXCITED TO SEE YOUR REACTION TO THIS EP! esp that part about Maomao knowing (pretending not to lol) the truth about Jinshi HAHAHA I still can't get over how Maomao kept squeezing just to check (POOR JINSHI HAHA). Your having to pause while laughing in tears is so relatable! Fun fact: Natsu Hyuuga (the author) was once asked if Jinshi really has a "decent" size. Since Jinshi's 180cm, the fan said they're guessing he's more than decent. Natsu Hyuuga answered it's European toad size. Make of this info what you will. XD Just saw your announcement before that you'll be posting around holidays, but I hope that won't take much of your precious time for vacation!

You've really lost it, outdone yourself this time, Sophie! 😂🤣 Your reaction is one of the funniest and most chaotic I've seen, and it definitely brought some laughs. We’ve finally been treated to a crucial flashback from Maomao's childhood, shedding light on her behavior, well addressed below the video. Emotional neglect during early development is often linked to traits seen in individuals with schizoid personality disorder. This background can manifest as difficulty in recognizing emotions—both their own and those of others—indifference to social norms, a lack of attachment, and disinterest in romantic relationships, sometimes leading to asexuality. Individuals with this disorder often exhibit extreme introversion, yet they may possess high intelligence and a deep interest in specific areas of knowledge and activities. Unfortunately, these strengths can be overshadowed by a general sense of apathy and lack of motivation in other aspects of life. Additionally, Jinshi made a significant misstep by giving Maomao the bezoar without first explaining the context of his actions. As a result, she was unable to absorb anything he said afterward. 🗣🤩

Mickael Landry

I noticed that Temari discussed it relevantly in the comments, thank you. 💯👏 In the scene where Sophie brings up the topic of non-consensual intimate relations between the former Emperor and the Empress Dowager,  I believe it is important to describe the scene of the frog to avoid any controversy, considering there is a significant dynamic power factor at play with the romantic advances of the superior, Jinshi, towards his subordinate, Maomao. The moment when Jinshi pushes Maomao down and positions himself over her might be indeed questionable, as it raises important questions about consent. One might argue that the dog's intervention implies that, without this disruption, Jinshi might have acted on his desires without considering Maomao's comfort. Hovewer this scenario underscores the challenges faced by two individuals who, despite their feelings, struggle to communicate effectively with each other. Their exchanges are impulsive, fueled by raw emotions rather than mutual understanding. Jinshi's recovery after Maomao finally lets him go is therefore VERY CRUCIAL to fully understand the context of this scene⚠️ His gentle demeanor, characterized by a conflicted expression and trembling hands, reveals a profound internal conflict. The pauses they share, filled with meaningful glances and silent check-ins, indicate an effort to connect before Jinshi takes action. While the scene may provoke questions about the nature of their interaction, it is vital to acknowledge that it mirrors the complexities of human emotions and relationships. The moment when Maomao holds Jinshi's genitals for an extended time, while provocative, does not necessarily imply malice. Rather, it showcases the complicated reality of human connections, where genuine feelings can result in both misunderstanding and vulnerability.😳💓😳 It is a depiction of how real individuals navigate their emotions, even in awkward and questionable situations.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

One thing I do want to emphasise in the discussion of power dynamics is that Maomao has NEVER allowed those dynamics to stop her from pushing Jinshi away or throwing his hands off of her whenever he oversteps and touches her when she doesn't want him too. She's very outward in her physical dismissal of him so even with the power dynamic - Maomao would not hesitate to throw hands even if she felt it was inappropriate to do so. I think that's something we can't overlook is that she has never allowed that to stop her before so it would make no sense for her to just comply because of the imbalance of power in this situation. She has known Jinshi is more than he appears for a while but she still treats him the same way as she always has. If anything she seemed conflicted between her desire for him and confusion over the emotions she feels rather than actually upset or angry or even scared.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Oh those are super grown one!! I actually got my nails done this week so you should see the new ones featured in the upcoming episodes ;) Yes - the question of inheritance is very much at the heart of the show especially considering we now have those attempting to eradicate the heirs through any means necessary!

Mickael Landry

It can be sometimes annoying to watch people overlook those little details! And you're right that reactions can sometimes be shallow, especially when they prioritize shock value over character growth and context. Jinshi's behavior can be seen from different angles, but understanding the underlying dynamics is crucial for a deeper discussion. It's great that you appreciate analyses that delve into the characters and their motivations! 😉

WondrousMay

Your reaction when Maomao was touching Jinshi’s “frog” was absolutely delightful haha 😂 One of the most memorable scenes for sure! I’m glad you took the time to talk about the scene between Jinshi and Maomao seriously. As you said, a lot of people took this scene out of context and mischaracterized both Jinshi and Maomao’s characters and misinterpreted their relationship badly. While there’s power imbalance between them due to their positions, both Jinshi and Maomao care about each other in a genuine way but have a hard time expressing their feelings.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Maomao has also never let that power imbalance stop her from throwing Jinshi off of her when she feels uncomfortable. Think about all the times she's pushed him away when he's overstepped or smacked his hand. She 100% would do the same here if she felt uncomfortable!

WondrousMay

Exactly! The issues people brought up are addressed in the story. You just have to pay attention and read between the lines which seems to be a rare occurrence nowadays.

Mickael Landry

That's a hilarious response from Natsu Hyuuga! 🤣🤭 It seems like the author has a playful sense of humor about the character's physical attributes. The comparison to a European toad adds a lighthearted twist, and it’s a fun way to engage with fans without taking things too seriously.

Icy

It’s pronounced Kaw Zah-Get-Sue but most people say Jinshi

Logan G

I don't believe Mao Mao necessarily wanted to kiss Jinshi, I think she makes it pretty obvious that it's not the case, she thinks should I kick him? Tenses her arm and closes her mouth. She KNOWS that she cannot turn down Jinshi and there is a huge power dynamic, she knows as good as most she is a commoner woman, with little power relative to someone of the opposite sex in this time period(obviously she holds more power than she realizes). That's not to say she doesn't care about Jinshi, but she seems less romantically interested than many like to say, that is of course my opinion and I'm just some idiot telling a Dr. how to read subtext so no need to take my opinion with weight.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Your interpretation and opinion are absolutely valid! Whilst I do agree with power dynamics - we need to remember who Maomao is and her actions. Throughout she has often she hit and pushed Jinshi away when he oversteps or touches her when she doesn't want him too. She's not afraid to show her discomfort physically even if she doesn't vocally. Jinshi knows her well enough that he can recognise when she's not comfortable and would pull away if that was the case. I don't think she's as reluctant as she appears but more surprised that it got to this point. We also have to remember that Jinshi thought she was encouraging him by challenging his manhood. He thought this is what she wanted especially when she was grasping at him. That's not to blame Maomao in this scenario but they are both young and unsure of their feelings so we can't really blame either of them.

to be fair, a lot of female reactor's got bent out of shape over Chainsaw Man and Himeno scene. Sure if it continued, it would have been bad but it didn't and there was real regret had something happened by Himeno. Its kind of funny to see the difference in reactors between this scene and that Chainsaw Man scene. I thought Sophie handled both well. She kept her initial feelings to herself(although you could see it was affecting her) until the scene had ended and Himeno expressed regret at the thought that something may have happened.

I’m usually pretty chill watching Apothecary Diaries. This episode… THIS EPISODE. This episode made me SCREAM
