Hi hi

I've seen a few people have cancelled their memberships due to the Patreon Videos not loading properly or buffering too much to be enjoyable.

Patreon videos have been extremely beneficial for me as before we were using Google Drive and that would limit how many people could view so not a good method going forward.

There really isn't any alternative for me to upload other than directly to Patreon. The only other option would be YT Unlisted to share onto Patreon but that would require getting rid of the music and lowering the transparency in order to bypass Global Blocks.

I don't particularly want to go down that path as the full experience of uncut is removed, but I also want to ensure that people have the best viewing experience possible.

I do have to wonder whether it's Patreon or people's internets as I've had no issues watching the videos when I've tested them, but enough people have mentioned it that I feel it's necessary to run a curiosity poll.

VIMEO is not an option. The prices you have to pay to upload is actually ludicrous!

I've never had that problem before on Patreon, that's probably a problem between their Internet Provider and the Patreon Servers or maybe they only try to watch new videos when they've been uploaded recently (like seconds or a couple minutes before). Anyways I will support you in whatever platform you deem fit ❤️

Adam

I have not had issues with your uploads yet, but do with some other creators. I dont know why

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Oh Patreon won't be going anywhere!! Even if unlisted it'd be onto Patreon to keep everything straightforward but I would prefer to just upload directly to Patreon unless the majority preferred YT Unlisted! Yeah I have been wondering if it was people's internet because I've never had any problem!

The only issue I have with Patreon is their UI. Other than that, I’m fine with it. Through the eyes of a fellow reactor, I feel like uploading directly to Patreon with full length is a dream. Unless there’s c*pyright stuff here you have to dodge too. Funnylilgalreacts does unlisted vids on her separate channel for full length reactions. However she takes the approach of “have your own copy to watch alongside”.

Pedro D. G.

I truly believe that it might be a problem with their internet as I also have some problems trying to access certain domains with my Internet and I just need to switch to my mobile/5g and the domain becomes accessible with no problems at all. Also about the timing which people try to access media, some servers have a bit of a problem handling multiple access so whenever there are lots of people trying to load/download one piece of media it can get a bit slow/buffering, it happens a lot at some sites that I use to watch anime subbed, because they can't afford really good servers due to being "free" it always gets congested whenever there's a new episode from a new show that's "hyped", you only need to wait a couple minutes or maybe hours so it gets less crowded.

It be my own wifi sometimes. I haven't had too many issues with Patreon

DrSophieDarlingReacts

If I could afford to give everyone high speed internet to consume my content I would! :')

Mina E.D

If only lol. I worry about my blood pressure spike that happens when a video/casting just turns off when shit is about to get good.

I've definitely had problems with patreon videos before, but 90% of time it was due to my Internet issues, and I haven't had any problems with your videos yet. Maybe adding a YouTube unlisted link as an extra thing would be good? Just in case and if its not too annoying for you to do?

Alma

I've been on patreon for 6 years and have never had any major issues. If a video isn't loading properly it usually fixes itself within a few hours to a day, and i'm not THAT impatient. Patreon is far from perfect, but it's better than the alternative imo. My biggest gripe with patreon is that the search and filtering system can be quite buggy, but so is youtube, so its a lose lose situation in that regard.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

It may be an option but it is extra work unfortunately on my end as it would require separate editing so it's adding extra time constraints on an already tight process of editing 6 / 7 videos for Patreon and YT weekly >.< I'll have to contemplate!

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Do the tags help at all in the situation for searching and filtering?! I try to make sure I tag each episode with the series it is because I know how much of a nightmare it can be!

Alma

Yes, it helps a lot!!

I'd say one in maybe every ten or so videos on patreon I watch suffer from buffering issues where either the video itself halts, or it defaults to some ungodly resolution to the point where you can't even read subs. That's obviously far from ideal, but I find it manageable personally. Not to mention most of the time it sorts itself out eventually, even if it can take a while. Just frustrating more than anything, considering you actively have to pay for the service.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I wonder if it could be if loads of people are trying to access it at once that it can cause some playback issues!

YaeliEz (Yael)

I have had no issues with Patreon 😊

Greybeard

I've never had any real problems with Patreon videos. If a video starts lagging, I can always download it and watch it offline. Editing on YouTube is a deal-breaker for me and would cause me to cancel, but I don't mind a watch-along format on YouTube, like so many other reactors do.

duver12

I've definitely had issues, but I think it's because of my internet. For some reason, certain pages like Patreon or Reddit run super slow, but things on Google's infrastructure, like YouTube, work perfectly for me: 4K videos and downloads go fast. There's something weird going on with my internet. I don't know if this happens to others, but it would make sense if it did. If they cancel their membership because of that, it's because they're having trouble with Patreon and not other sites. But in my case, if I have trouble with Patreon, the next day I can watch the videos with no problem. I don't think it's worth changing things unless you're interested in helping the minority. How complicated would it be to upload every new reaction to Drive and share the link in each post? If I'm not mistaken, non-subscribers can't see comments or descriptions on posts for paid tiers. That way there would be an alternative if playback on Patreon is acting up.

Brandon

I've never really had issues with Patreon videos before. Are people telling you directly that its a Patreon video problem or is that the option being selected in the cancelation survey when people end their membership? If its the latter, depending on where it is on the list of options I could see it as something people are just clicking on instead of giving an actual reason. If you're looking for an alternative option, some react channels offer a "timer reaction" rather than a full unedited reaction. Essentially you would set a timer to your reaction that matches with the episode so you dont have to play the episode within your video and the viewer is supposed to have the episode up in a separate window. There are pros and cons to this type of episode, but if youre looking for examples I would point you towards AutoSave or Haylo & Kiss. They both have different ways of dealing with the intro/outro since you don't want to watch them until a series ends.

andrea ❤

Its completely up to you, but in that case, I dont think its worth it. It really doesn't seem to be a patreon issue, and adding more work for yourself when its working for 99% of people is not necessary

Carlo Marasigan

Im ok with Patreon. Is it possible to offer the same in YouTube for paid subscribers? Not sure if you may be more exposed to strikes.

Anthony Willetts

I've had no issues, besides the fact I have to mirror my phone to my TV, or just watch it on my phone directly... But I've had no issues with buffering or anything like that.

Lama Mama

Maybe the vote is so one-sided because the people who had problems already left. That being said, I've had no problems with Patreon.

Chavakun

patreon is just fine for a few days I did have loading issues but I realized it was a patreon thing because the same thing happened with other creators and the issue was minimal it did not undermine my enjoyment of your reactions. In the end the reason I choose to support creators in patreon is to be able to fully enjoy your inedited full reactions, if the videos were edited or blurred for copyright reasons then that would actually become an issue personally for me at least. Bottom line I love the way everything as it is today.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

It's not worth the risk tbh because 3 strikes and your channel is permanently removed!

DrSophieDarlingReacts

That wouldn't solve the issue of Patreon buffering though and I believe both those channels still upload directly to Patreon rather than through YT Unlisted unless I'm mistaken. I think switching from uncut to timer reacts would honestly kill my Patreon at this point as I've been doing it this way for over a year and it's the large incentive for watching alongside my analysis and discussions :') I also pause way too much to try and sync that with the episodes itself. It works for reactors that don't stop to discuss until after the show like AutoSave, who'll do a big deep dive together but I pause and dissect as I go most of the time. Haylo and Kiss don't really analyse. They have a few comments throughout and at the end but fairly easy to put a timer on as there's not a lot of breaks. I stop and start because something crops up so it'd be a bit of a headache trying to ensure accuracy! It's not a selection but in the comment box that's been added for why they chose to unsubscribe.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Unfortunately Google Drive is awful - it would restrict how many people could access it and caused massive headaches in the early days haha! I think with Patreon it could be if multiple people are trying to all access it at once it might overload the player and cause some buffering but always hard to gauge. I know it's still a work in progress so there may be more improvements in future!!

Rose

Unedited videos are definitely worth any hassle with buffering for me!

Brandon

Yeah a lot of people don't like timer reactions because of the two window issue. Almost guarantees that you need to watch it on a computer or at least have a second device like a tablet. That being said it does help protect you from copyright issues and you actually don't have to use the Patreon video player. You're right about Haylo & Kiss using the Patreon video player, but AutoSave actually uses an embedded Youtube video, using Patreon only for the platform but not the video itself. Interesting that it's a comment being added by people manually upon cancellation though. I'm wondering if there is some kind of issue based on country/location.

KatoBen

Another reactor I used to watch used the service Vidyard to upload his unedited videos for Patreon. (I won't mention his name since he has partially retired from YouTube due to getting his dream job.) Another reactor I watch uses Streamable to post their unedited videos. I, personally, don't have any trouble with Patreon's built in streaming software, even though my Internet can be quite a hassle at times. Edit: There's also the chance they are trying to be kind about dropping their subs. I assume the Christmas holiday season normally sees Patreons losing subs due to the increased financial burden this time of year.

Jobbe Smit

It's only Patreon for me and even on videos weeks old. The issue seems to be their player automatically downgrades the quality and it lacks the ability to manually select one. It also refuses to rebuffer content so the only way to get new quality is reset the entire video. It's not my internet, it's fibre and it's not my ISP as it also happens on a VPN. The Patreon implementation is just bad. Not enough to cancel of course but it happens and it's on their end.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Ohhh thank you for the options - I'll check them out!! It could be tbf! Though I expected Christmas to be a tough time for people so I'd never be upset if people cancelled because it's just not affordable. It's why I try to keep my prices as affordable as possible. Cost of everything is ridiculous these days so absolutely get that Patreon should be the first to go if they need to make cut backs!

Jobbe Smit

If Vimeo isn't an option I second Streamable and Vidyard though I've also seen some reactors setting up their own hosting. Not saying you should invest into that but it might be interesting to reach out and perhaps piggy back on their services?

evil terrorr

Can’t say i really encountered any issues on Patreon so far. Granted i only watch it through the website on my pc Buffering issues have been few and far between so to me Patreon is perfect as is.

Pedro D. G.

Have you tried accessing it from another internet provider? As I said in my comment sometimes it's a communication problem between the internet provider and the domain, unfortunately if you don't have many options of internet services it gets harder to test this but you could try using your Mobile. I never had any issues with the quality and it's always playing on the max quality, be it on my PC or my Mobile, with fiber, WiFi or 5g Data. Also I've been using Patreon for more than a decade.

WondrousMay

I had buffering issues on a couple of videos but it usually resolved itself when I restart the app or my internet connection so I wasn’t too bothered by it.

AstralPrime

Patreon video player sucks if there is a shaky connection but is otherwise fairly reliable with a few issues. It isn't YT quality in the slightest, but I prefer it
