I read farmland arc when I was perhaps 19 or 20 years old. And back then I didn't realise that it would eventually turn out to be one of finest pieces of work that would have come my way lol. Sometimes we do realise it in real time, for example for few arcs in other anime/manga such as chimera ant arc, golden age arc, ennies lobby arc, return to shingashina arc(AoT), promised day arc (fmab). Not only this but real time realization has happened for me in live action tv shows as well such as season 4 of succession, season 4 of the wire, season 6 of sopranos. for me Vinland saga farmland arc did not immediately felt as I've read something truly special. But it has grown on me over the years now that I have so many reference points in my head to compare to. And I can now confidently say yes it's that special and well written. Especially this 2nd season, easily goes to the top. As much as this is considered the 'best arc' of Vinland saga, I personally enjoyed 3rd arc more, because when I finished reading farmland I kept wondering that Thorfinn has come so far how is his character going to progress? Won't he become stagnant? But Thorfinn does keep learning, he will keep growing, he will keep rising. His character development does not stop. He will burn with a flame so bright that he could make sun dull. And it's all wonderfully explored in next two arcs, what it means to be a true warrior. In case you decide to read manga, do keep us posted Dr Sophie. These mangas are bit on expensive side (I own hard copies) but they are so well drawn that I personally feel them to be worth the cost. You'll also see Yukimura's artwork improve subtly as well, especially the facial expressions. Yukimura nails storytelling through facial expressions. Artwork in Vinland saga is one of top tiers I've seen.

The next arc is my personal favorite in the entire series and it’s the arc that I’ve reread the most out of the whole manga. so I’m really upset that mappa hasn’t prioritized season 3 more. But on the bright side your replacing Vinland saga reactions with Chainsaw man, another one of my favorite shows. It’s a very different vibe from Vinland saga but still a very good show, looking forward to your reaction to it

You can also add to your watch list 'Orb: On the Movements of Earth'. I think you'll enjoy it based on your reactions to Vinland Saga. Of course, the lineup for the next 1 year is fantastic. The last poll featured some of the best anime a reactor like you can watch and enjoy. So it could be awhile when Orb gets a chance.

Leif Ericson is the BEST! 🤩 His loyalty to Thorfinn is so touching. After searching for Thorfinn for over 10 years, seeing him finally bring Thorfinn back to his mom, Helga, was such a feel-good moment. Leif never gave up on Thorfinn, even when everyone else thought he was a goner. That's some serious dedication! He's like the best uncle figure ever, and you can tell he's super proud of the peaceful person Thorfinn has become. I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for your Vinland Saga reviews. They were amazing! Even if we don't know if the anime will come back, I'm so grateful I got to experience this incredible story again with your insights. You're the best reviewer I could have asked for. Thanks for all the laughs and the tears, you're awesome Sophie! I'm SO hyped for Vinland Saga Season 3. I'm gonna be waiting patiently (but not too patiently, haha). The anime is just SO GOOD, I'm ready to jump into Thorfinn's next adventure without knowing anything. 🙈🙉🙊 But hey, if you get too impatient and decide to read the manga, I totally get it. Happy reading if you do! 📚

I think Ylva knows. She just has a tendency to run away from her emotions.

Season 2 of Vinland Saga is to this day the best season of any show I've ever seen, and that includes some heavy competition. The manga, of course, also follows as the best I've ever read -- funnily enough, next to the first major arc of chainsaw man, which you'll cover next! I've seen some people talk about the third arc to Vinland, and while it is amazingly dense with peak moments, it's the fourth arc that remains my favorite. Although I haven't finished it (final english volume releases in October), the thematic depth of each chapter is just astounding. Cannot wait to see it in anime format in 2036... Anyway, these reactions were a joy to look forward to. It's so refreshing to see someone who just *gets* it, right from the get-go. Someone who from the very first episode recognised the thematic breadth this show encompasses, and who is able to articulate those thoughts on the fly. A lot of the shows you're watching next, such as Monster, I haven't read yet, but I absolutely cannot wait to see what you make of Chainsaw Man! That show goes absolutely ballistic at times lol To close this out, I wanted to cite something Yukimura said in a recent interview he did, which I feel summarizes the entire story in a way. "As I was planning [Thorfinn's] arc prior to serialization, I was carefully raising him to be a character that defied violence, but as I got closer to the end of serialization, my intentions slowly changed. My interests shifted towards the idea of, 'what does it mean to become an adult?' "I believe violence to be childish. We resort to violence because we are children. Presidents and ministers may believe they're engaging in advanced political operations when utilizing their military, but as long as they're using violence as the means, their minds are still childish. "So then, what if we were able to become 'adults?' Does this mean there will be no more violence? This is the question that's been on my mind recently. 'What does it mean to become an adult?' I'm already close to becoming 50, but I still ask myself, 'am I really an adult?' and sometimes I become frustrated with myself. "When we think about the issues of violence, the important thing is to ask ourselves how we can become adults. If we can't grow up, violence will never be eliminated from this world. I want people who think they are adults to think about this idea as well. We are children! We are all children, I want everybody to realize this. I want people to have a desire to grow into adulthood. When that happens, we will truly be able to graduate from a life of violence. After writing this piece for 20 years, I have finally realized that the theme I've truly been chasing is how we can become adults."

"The goal of growing up is to become a kind person" Yukimura is the GOAT

OMG, yes please. Orb is one of my favorite anime, and I haven't seen any reactor who truly gives it the attention and analysis it deserves. It would be awesome to have Dr. Sophie watch it.

Carlo Marasigan

I second this. I would put Orb at S rank alongside AOT and Vinland Saga. So well written. It deals more about what a life means than which heavenly body revolves around what.

if they don’t announce S3 soon please react to the manga 🙏🏻
