Hello Sophie! Finally, the Hashiras! They are quite the colorful bunch, aren't they? The trial is not a trial because, as far as they know, a demon has no way to resist eating a human. Nezuko is completely unique in that regard! And a familly member lying to protect a demon probably happens often. That's why Rengoku, the Flame Hashira, is so expeditive about it. The fact that Shinobu is willing to listen to Tanjiro is probably unheard of. Gyomei, the Stone Hashira, is buddhist! Shintoism and Buddhism have an interresting relashionship in Japan because, until recently, they were pretty much consider as one. They fit pretty seemlesly together. I like that the Hashiras don't blindly believe the Master and ask for further proof, though. The most fundamental fact about demons is questionned here, it makes sense that they need a little more convincing. Loved the reaction <3

So the Butterfly Mansion was mentioned by Shinobu in a previous episode, but she specifically ordered that all injured people be taken there for treatment. Which, you would think Tanjiro would qualify, but more pressing matters came up. Regarding the rules, we have never been shown anyone learning them, but Tanjiro definitely knows them. He knew about the rule that Demon Slayers arent allowed to fight each other, back when Inosuke first showed up. I dont think this is a spoiler because I dont actually know the answer, but I dont think Nezuko's strength comes from having a lot Muzan's blood. I think her strength more comes from her unique mental fortitude, which led to a different method of gathering strength than other demons. Or put another way, I think her special-ness comes from her, not from something Muzan did. The line "She must have a lot of the master's blood!" comes from an assumption that one demon made when Nezuko kicked him (the one who was capturing and eating 16 year old girls and had split into 3 entities). But I dont think we've seen anything to corroborate that. But I could be wrong, I dont know if either has been confirmed. In my opinion this is actually one of the weaker episodes. Purely on the fact that the author overdid it with establishing the Hashira's one-note personalities (so far). Repeating the same phrases over and over was too much, and that time could have been used to add more layers to them or actually have some natural dialogue. We got it the first time the words "flamboyant," "pity," and "love" were used. We didnt need to hear them 10 more times. I do like the rest of the episode, but that was about half of it.

I'll forever hold a grudge against Sanemi for the stabbing Nezuko through the box. Like, that's my child you're attacking. I find it absurd how much this show has made me care for her. I understand their perspective for sure. Like if someone brought a tiger near me, and told me that their tiger hasn't harmed anyone and won't ever do it, I probably would not believe them or be at ease. Trust is hard. But the stabbing is still crazy to me.

About family members lying to protect a turned family member, yeah in episode 1 Giyuu even monologues about how he personally saw that happen only for them to be eaten by the Oni and how he saw Oni eat their family more times than he can count.

Hah, I personally live for the phrases, cause they add a comedic effect and make the intimidating-at-a first-glance Hashira seem more "approachable". I think its fitting as we can always get to know a character and peel back the layers later on. But I can see how others would find it annoying. I definitely think this episode and 1x21 could have been squeezed into one episode though.

Yeah this episode definitely makes you feel frustrated with the Hashira, but I guarantee you're going to love them all by the time you catch up. My favorite Hashira are Rengoku (Flame) and Muichiro (Mist) 🥰

Buzzard

Muichiro (the Mist Hashira) is my favorite. Outstanding character development.

After watching this episode for the first time, I found myself reflecting on the Hashira's strong stance against trusting demons. Given their esteemed status within the Demon Slayer Corps, it’s clear they have likely faced unimaginable horrors, which understandably leads them to approach the situation with immense caution. As viewers, we’ve had the privilege of witnessing Tanjiro’s incredible journey with his sister Nezuko, and we know just how much she has helped him in saving others. And their bond is seriously next level! 👫 But, the Hashira don’t have the same experiences or understanding of Nezuko’s situation. If I were in their shoes, I might also feel a similar sense of distrust 🤔👎. Especially if they have never heard of a demon like Nezuko who does not consume humans. Their perspective is a reflection of the challenges they’ve faced, and it highlights the complexities of dealing with demons.

Brillant! I love your analogy about the tiger 🐅, it's so spot-on for illustrating the inherent fear and mistrust Sanemi is dealing with. It's completely rational to be wary of something perceived as dangerous, even with assurances. Trust, especially when dealing with something so fundamentally different and potentially threatening, is incredibly difficult to build. 🤷‍♂️ 🗣"But still..." To borrow a phrase from Sophie, haha, I really don't like him; he hurt Nezuko. Please, don't harm her!

When one of the Hashiras revealed that the Demon Slayer Corps had never crossed paths with Kibutsuji Muzan, it made me think intensely of Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter.👽👨🏻‍🏫 This figure of the "invisible" antagonist really reinforces this feeling of helplessness and mystery. Tanjiro Kamado is indeed the first member of the Corps (in generations) to cross paths with Muzan by pure chance in Asakusa. Until that meeting with Tanjiro, for the Hashira, Muzan was an elusive shadow, even almost like a myth.

Yeah, the Hashiras’ actions against Tanjiro and Nezuko were really harsh but also understandable since they never had good experiences with demons so far. Urokodaki’s words were enough for the Master but not for the Hashiras. They needed more solid proof but Sanemi went about it in the most violent way…

Whats great about the Hashiras is that their quirks are not just there as decorations for these characters. There are specific reasons for these quirks. You will forgive them and understand them by the time the story is over. I write while thinking of Sanemi’s back story and yes, I understand why especially Sanemi will find it hard to accept Nezuko.

So excited to see what you'll think of the Hashiras when we learn more about them later ! My favs are Muichiro (mist) and Tengen (sound), but they're all very interesting characters

domi

(6:14) I guess we can assume he knows the rules bc he was the one who told Inosuke that it was against them to fight another corp member (edit to add: i think he knew that protecting a demon was against rules, but since he mostly worked alone he maybe thought no one would realize? + he def hadnt heard about Urokodakis promise)

I love that you compared Mitsuri to Zenitsu, their character arcs are kinda similar and I can't wait for you to get further with them. I also wanna point out that you're the first reactor I've seen not jumping to conclusions about how the Hashira's are behaving towards Nezuko and not hating some of them immediately, because as you said we've been with Nezuko from the start and we know her, but to these guys who have seen horrible things and have dedicated their lives to kill demons, Nezuko's mere existence has to be difficult to even comprehend!! Especially in Sanemi's case, since he is the most aggressive towards her, people are immediately hating on him without thinking that he probably has a painfully good reason as to why!! Don't get me wrong, I feel like all of us were not happy of how he acted, but my immediate response to seeing his actions were to be more interested on WHY is he that way!! I'm so happy of how you reacted to them, because some of these people forget that Inosuke acted much worse when we first met him, but his silly boar mask and his cute face made everyone forget that immediately. Much love to you Dr. Sophie 🩷🏵

Meh, it's no big deal, she will heal really quick anyway. Sanemi still one of the best written characters in the show/manga. Well tbh, it's actually one of the few good characters this show has which is not completely generic and boring.
