I think the way the Gardener was so patient and forgiving to Ava despite how mean she was to him at times and even him hearing her say another man's name in her sleep right after they slept with each other it's not surprising that he took his wife back on Christmas eve. He wasn't expecting that and I believe his daughter's excitement was the decision to take her back, probably thinking that Ava might not even show up anyways. Also I believe Ava was so angry she knows how much the Gardener loved that garden that she burned it to hurt him as well on top of just burning the mansion to forget about everything that happened there and now focused on making sure Tenma feels what she's been feeling all this time. She wants to hurt all the men in her life that she feels has hurt her.

I can understand your frustration at the pacing at this point since we got the first major reveal about Johan a couple of episodes back. Don’t worry though, things will definitely be picking up now. This episode’s title being "The Abandoned Man・The Abandoned Woman" is perfect for these two. Both Lunge and Eva are obsessed with something (Lunge with work, Eva with Tenma) to the point of being self-destructive. Now they’re both being abandoned because of their actions and will become even more hellbent on finding Tenma. The shot of Eva walking forward with her house burning behind her was really cool though. Excited for you to see more of her character in the future :)

When Eva dumped Tenma, I really thought that was the last we were going to see of her character, so I'm fascinated by how persistently she's remained involved in the plot and what that will mean for some future "showdown" between her and Tenma! I am glad for the Gardener and his daughter that his wife came back, but oooff I felt so sorry for Eva in that moment. I can empathize with how she feels like the universe is out to get her even though if she'd take a step back she'd realize she's the cause of a lot of her problems... But hard to see the forest for the trees and all that. If she'd quit drinking and go to therapy, she could probably get back on the right path! XD
