one thing about black flash that the translation gets wrong is that it’s not 2.5x power, it’s actually the amount of power to the ^2.5 power. so if the punch has a force of 1000N, it doesn’t make it 2500N, it makes it 31.6 million N

Aah, we're finally here. I think this is a really important episode for showing character motivations. I always thought that Megumi walks with the world on his shoulder with a sense of duty as he wants to protect lives that are worthy. Megumi thinks of sacrificing himself as a 'trump card' to save someone. Maki is obviously worth saving, because otherwise, as you said, you would have stopped watching the show entirely if something happened to her, lol. But I really liked your analysis of Megumi Dr Sophie. Megumi thinking of himself as unworthy of saving is an interesting take, and I can get behind that reasoning. I am learning new things as I watch it alongside you. And I also like that the story is slowly fleshing out the characters through fighting in past few episodes. There is a contrast in how Megumi and Itadori are functioning. Megumi thought of sacrificing himself when at his limits and pushed into a corner while Itadori is actively evolving under Todo's mentorship, even amid the imminent threat of death. Also, I think Todo is a much better teacher than Gojo, cuz he is able to meet Itadori where he is. Gojo kinda did okayish work teaching the basics of cursed energy and techniques. And of course, Hanami also kinda is turning hypocritical. They preach peace to save forests and the earth, but during this fight, Hanami did so much damage to nature.

One of my favorite things about JJK is how realistic its fights are despite the abstract concepts. Characters will team up and jump people if they are stronger. sometimes I’ll be watching an anime and characters will let their friend get their ass kicked because of some type of weird honor of having a one-on-one fight. jjk does not do that if someone is stronger we are jumping them 😂😂

One thing about black flash. It isn’t a normal move that just anyone can do. It’s a pretty complex move that if you can do it then your understanding of cursed energy becomes astronomical.

I forgot how important this interschool comp arc is for really laying out a lot of the jujutsu society politics, clan relations and tensions. It was what really started to get me enjoying this show beyond the shounen battle vibes. This arc DOES throw a lot in terms of important social contexts at you all while Todo and Yuji are busy having a great time and starting the bromance I dont think this is spoilery at all but I do think it is something you might be interested in (apologies if you’ve already seen them) but there were supplementary student rankings released which showed how both the Tokyo and Kyoto students were ranked across their studies. Todo is the top ranked student for both academics and “jujutsu sense”, and Yuji and Maki top the rankings for motor skills/reflexes without cursed energy (Todo came in third). I thought the rankings were a really interesting addition to the character plots we experience in this arc like Maki and Mai’s backstory, Megumi’s whole situation, and how Todo isn’t particularly popular with his fellow Kyoto students. But also - I love Todo, and I adore the character choice the author made of Todo being both crazy AND crazy smart 😂 Finally, your analysis of Megumi’s character this ep is on point 👌

So, about black flashes where you said it’s too scientific. This won’t be explained later, so don’t worry about it being a spoiler. Remember Yuji’s divergent fist ? I think you know this, but it happens because his cursed energy delays a bit on impact. The physical blow happens first, then the cursed energy follows. Which is why it seems like a double-hit. (I think it’s been mentioned that it’s because his cursed energy couldn’t keep up with his physical abilities but I might be wrong about this specific thing) Todo didn’t like it and I think it’s because it means his control of cursed energy is somewhat poor. He got him to do a black flash because it perfectly solves that problem. A black flash happens if the cursed energy hits almost at the same time as thy physical blow. Within a trillionth of a second like Todo said. Which means that if Yuji could do that, and he did, then the problem of the divergent fist disappears because he can now control his cursed energy better ! Also his understanding of cursed energy in general improves drastically, and the black flash itself is extremely powerful in comparison to regular attacks. I hope this isn’t too much to read 😅

AH YES!! And yes the divergent fist issue was that it was catching up with his physical movement which created the delay but as you said Black Flash sorts it and is part of Todo being like "do you want to get stronger?" e.g. this delay sucks get good! I completely forgot about divergent fist but I'll blame the 2 week gap between filming due to London haha!!
