Ignore the intro hahaha

I thought this was the movie I was supposed to watch and didn't realise till after that wasn't the case.

JJK 0 should be posted Tuesday 7th July so after that we'll be jumping into 2 x 6 onwards!

In relation to Toji's Spear - I kept using the word cut through but it's the wrong terminology. I know it's power is to negate ALL active techniques but I was using the word cut through as an indication of how he's cutting a path THROUGH the technique which is a bit confusing so just wanted to clarify that I do understand it :')

hi our darling💕

YES THIS IS WHAT I’VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!!

Karolis Sad.

Okay, the beginning stuff you said about the season 4 trailer and participating in the discussions around it, just be aware that it's almost completely impossible to engage in any media that isn't just completely spoiled by manga-readers in regards to talking about the season 4 trailer. I think throughout my surfing I've seen 1 or 2 people actually respect anime-only's and discuss implications around the trailer without just flat-out spoiling it, so I urge you to be cautious of that if you're gonna be doing stuff like that (now that I think about it, it's kinda similar to how people are spoiling you in YT comments) Also, there's no date for season 4, but the earliest possible 'slot' that S4 fits in is January 2027, according to others. Anyone correct me if they disagree on these things, I might just be in a specific manga-reader corner of the fandom, since I am one of them.

OriginalsFX

I definitely think Gojo hates the higher-ups, but I also think he’s a lonely guy. I think the main reason he is so focused on everyone being strong and people catching up to him is so that he can have people like Geto used to be to feel a level of kinship with. Gojo always remarks on whether people are strong or weak, and I think in someway he really can’t connect with people that aren’t on his level strength wise because that’s what’s been most important his entire life.

Gyt

Never watched the movie version of these 5 eps before but why the hell did it turn B&W when Toji stabbed Gojo lol is it censoring the blood maybe ? In ep 3 without the filter the wounds and blood looks crazy .

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I guess so but it is what it is. Doesn't bother me because you can still see the wounds and the blood. Doesn't detract from that :)

Gyt

Sad u watched it outta order unfortunately cuz I was really looking forward to u theorizing everything and being a bit confused lol but anyways excited for JJK0

Jarucifer

Yayy! Thank you 🤍🔥

hman70

The JJK community in particular are spoiler fiends. Such a lack of respect in general. Back when releasing *entire chapters* would be on Twitter with full conversation about details free-game DAYS before the chapters would actually release. I was spoiled for details about JJK Modulo chapter 2 before the series was even officially announced. This fandom is a different breed

Karolis Sad.

Damn, I wonder what about the series makes the community like that

Gyt

Yeah np at all I saw u addressed it on ur latest post

hman70

There was a very solid “leaker pipeline” for JJK, it wasn’t irregular at all, it was scheduled that leakers would have full copies of chapters days before release. So if you wanted to be apart of the discourse at all you were forced to spoil yourself or else cut yourself off from the community in general. Somewhere along the way people forget that they were spoiling themselves, the attitude became “it’s your fault if you haven’t read the chapter yet, it’s been out for days” and by a similar token if you waited until release day to read it you were already a week behind the discourse. Who knows what explains why that same attitude now applies to the show itself.

i see the rengoku on your shelf!!

Me: Oh no! A mistake! How terrible! Actually me: Yes! YES! Five days of content in ONE!

TripMcDub

I didn’t even know there was a movie version of the hidden inventory arc wtf 😭😭

TheRubyMinecat

Now its never actually mentioned in the show ever, but toji as a child was treated pretty awfully in the clan for not having cursed energy(like you mentioned), similarly to maki and mai(who were done worse as they were women as well). Its where he got his scar from! Now i believe the next part is not spoilers as its never mentioned in the anime either but its in the extras in the manga, but any other manga readers confirm this for me! Another thing thats never mentioned is that why toji left his family and went back to his gambling habits and whatnot is that his wife(megumis mom) actually passed away!

OriginalsFX

It’s interesting how unlike a show like Demon slayer or many of the other shonen I’ve seen there isn’t any end to the curses because they just come from human negative emotions so there isn’t like a Muzan or some big bad to fight at the end so they’ll basically have to keep doing this until they die. I think that is why i get why geto is saying we just need to get to the source so my friends will stop dying.

Rexus

This is the first time I'm watching the movie version of this arc so I'm glad I got to experience watching this with you and hearing your thoughts on it. 😇😇😇

Slendercucumber

What I love about this arc and how Geto is portrayed is that the show takes time for Geto's descent and premature death. Because many villains have a certain perspective that one can disagree with but Geto's perspective comes from his mental health and struggle to find a purpose which he wants to achieve. Gojo does not have a particular Philosophie or goal but he likes being strong and pursuing his strenght. And Gojo is happy to evolve and then the protecting humans part comes more intuitively, because Gojo does not need fullfill himself and search for a meaning in life and work. Or rather the meaning of life for Gojo is something different than achieving something and having a purpose. Geto on the other hand lost the meaning of his existence. Lost the meaning of life that he put upon himself saving the weak. While Geto thought about his meaning and constructet it himself it got taken away from reality for Gojo it was the other way around: First not havinf a meaning in life but experiencing reality and the haardship and finding meaning through experience so the meaning and ur purpose could not even been broken. And Geto searches for hints to remain or create a new purpose/meaning in his life through others he talked with. One was Haibara who sat next to him. From Haibara he got that it feels good to try hard and give his best to achive something you can achieve. So Geto gives his best to achieve his new goal instead of wittnessing this weird place he is in which feels like a marathon that never stops and therefore never achieves something that at least seems worthwile to him. From Yuki the special grade he got the analysis of the system he is trapped in and the ways this system can solve the problem with the curses. And sadly the last talk with Gojo was communicationwise really bad. Instead of asking why Geto did what he did Gojo speaks of why he does something he is not able to do. So for Geto himself - of course he did not talk openly about his plans beforehands - nobody actually refused his plans but added thoughts and parts that support the intention. No one was talking about good and bad but if there was a point to it. And the reason why is because if u really deepdive into this argument most Sorcerers then just went on with the philosophie of the system. And I think most sorcerers also get at least that the System they are in does not work that well but most of them are preoccupied with themselves surviving and improving. But for Geto or Yuki or even Gojo who are Special grade and already needn't to evolve they start to think about the things they can improve which isn't themselves but the things besides them like other Sorcerers or the system they live in. I also think that the mental health part of Geto and the combination with his disposition of being a curse manipulator are factors too why he did not search for the morally right path afterward but the easy solution as Yuki said because Geto never really acted how he felt. But exactly that drove him into despair. So to feel fullfilled and happy he chose this time to act emotionally and finally he gets emotionally fullfilled. So Geto is someone who wanted to get fullfilled with his morals and purpose in society which drove him emotionally and psychological nuts and then he fullfilles himself emotionally. Gojo would of course not be the same person as he is now without Geto and him leaving the school. At least his drive to better the system with the new gen would not be that fierce without Geto's story. The way Gojo transcended and found his morals stems from the connection he had with Geto. The roles could be swapped but not really because the way Gojo and Geto find meaning in life is backwards and contradict each other. But the Gojo we know now is the product of wittnessing Geto so here we are. Loved ur movie long reaction to the hidden inventory/ premature death arc of jjk season 2! Very excitet to watch ur next actuall movie reaction ;). Have a nice week hopefully!

Guru_Rick_

after the gym discussion it's safe to say that geto was trying to act as a moral compass for gojo but unfortunately gojo HAD a pretty big ego at the time and I like how gojo uses the digimon reference but what about the last episode again one could almost say a tragic point in the JJK series a year after the task and the open discussion with Yuki was what (I guess I could say) broke the so-called camel's back and for me geto reminds me of Scar FMAB in its own way

• merry

I loved how you caught onto the romantic undertones of Geto and Gojo’s relationship! I don’t think I even need to explain why it’s such a popular ship but yeah, I fully believe they loved each other on a deep, deep level. I doubt it was sexual, it may or may not have been romantic, but these two imo were soulmates. Also just a little fyi, the creator of jujutsu kaisen was heavily inspired by mlm manga, particularly those in which the male leads tragically don’t get together, so i think the influence of this on Gojo and Geto’s dynamic cannot be understated. AMAZING react-analysis as always. we love you Sophie ♡

bunmlij

Megumi’s name means “blessing” in Japanese (which is why Toji remembers Megumi when he talks about Geto and Gojo’s “blessings of parentage”)! It is traditionally a female name which Megumi complains about in season 1. Extending on what you said, Gojo and Geto inherited Toji’s blessing and curse :P

gasp

yess this exactly!! plus the lyrics for the opening for the hidden inventory arc is so painfully romantic and very clearly about Satosugu, it hurts so good as a fan.

• merry

mhm! the lyrics are so beautiful, though analysing them might sort of be a spoiler 😭

From all mistakes u could make this one isnt so bad, dont worry, show isnt ruined or anything! I cant wait to watch it, you managed to post it so fast i will be able to watch it before work, thanks haha!

1:19:35 DAD'S HOME!

Thalnae

Amazing take as always! Hope you don't mind me pointing out a couple of things that I don't think were mentioned (no spoilers of course). 1. When Yuki is telling Geto how he has two paths ahead of him, she points to two hallways. The first, hating all non sorcerers is the short one, with a bright exit sign. The second, rejecting that hate, is the long dark one. To me it symbolises how the path towards hate is the easy way out, the one that's literally begging you to follow it. 2. After Gojo and Geto's defeat by Toji's hand they got very different things out of it. Gojo pretty much "levelled up", reaching enlightenment (the words he says when floating "Throughout the heavens and earth I alone am the honoured one" are the first words Buddha said after being born) and really becoming the strongest. And was pretty much entrusted with the future of Megumi (and Tsumiki). What Geto got was: - being told he was defeated by, in Toji's own words, "a monkey like me who cannot even use sorcery" - ptsd - noticed how there is clapping noise overlapping with similar sounds? The water in the shower, the rain - yet another curse to absorb, Toji's worm tracking him down and calling him "mom". And we know what cursed spirits taste like according to Geto. - Also, his best friend and usually partner in missions having become the strongest is now being sent on missions alone, exactly because he's strong enough to take care of things himself as well as likely being so strong that any other sorcerer sent with him would only be a hindrance. I think it's just interesting to see how skewed the outcome of their encounter with Toji and Riko's death was, it makes their arc so much more tragic when you realise that Gojo likely never really saw it or addressed it.

st4rmin

You can absolutely ship Geto and Gojo, most of the fandom does. We love doomed ships 🎀

Fae

The applause fading back in during the sounds of the shower and the rain outside is a magnificent touch. At first it sounds normal, then suddenly you realize you are listening to the applause. From Geto's perspective it just keeps sliding back into his head and he can't help it after the tragedy, suddenly it's just there again.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I talked about all these things in my outro haha!! They were most definitely caught and mentioned :') The only one I didn't delve into was the hallways as it was obvious symbolism but every single point you've made I spoke about extensively in my outro discussion including the clapping overlapping with the water and the trauma.

Thalnae

Argh I must have missed that part since I was listening to the outro whilst at work!! 😅 That's what I deserve for not wanting to wait until later to listen with full focus 🙊

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Haha!! Yeah I delved into Geto inheriting Toji's burden and hatred for Jujutsu Society through absorbing his Cursed Spirit and Gojo receiving enlightenment from being pushed to the brink of death and then Geto having to watch his friend become stronger without him and he now has to go it alone repeating this endless horrible cycle with no end :(

Bowsber

Yeah, although I think his wife passing away was more or less implied in his final moments thinking about her, but it's only actually confirmed in the volume extras. I think it's a really interesting note though, his self-destructive habits being a result of grief and loneliness (that likely wasn't entirely remedied by his time with Tsumiki's mother either) is just fascinating context for his character.

TheRubyMinecat

Yep yep, thank you for the confirmation

Nsiegbe Rikenda

Wow I’ve actually never ever washed the movie version of this. So the outro was so heart wrenching. I’d never seen those photos ♥️♥️

Atena

“Is it weird to ship them?” SatoSugu is one of THE ships of JJK, join the club eheheh 🤍🖤

Mickael Landry

No worries at all about missing the movie! It happens to the best of us haha. Feel free to check out those fan arts, Sophie! https://i.postimg.cc/ZqQYcMtS/Screenshot-20260702-171504-Samsung-Browser.jpg I get why some fans see a romantic vibe between Gojo and Geto in that anime. It’s pretty intriguing how the story has these intense emotional moments that feel like classic Boys' Love (BL) stuff: • First off, the way they talk to each other is super intimate. Like, Gojo even changes his personal pronouns (from a brash, arrogant "I" to a polite, humble "I") just because Geto asked him to, which is a big deal! • The anime has this really intimate feel, with dramatic close-ups🫂 and soft lighting that could remind us of a breakup drama (you know, those rainy blues 🏙 and sunny reds🌄). • Plus, there are some cute scenes added in where they play basketball, nap together, and share food🍜, which really fuels the shipping fandom. • And the author, Gege Akutami, has said he loves BL manga, so you can see those emotional vibes in his writing.📖🖌 • The confrontation on the streets of Shinjuku is widely considered by the fandom to look and feel exactly like a dramatic romantic split. 💔 But here’s where it gets interesting: there’s a cultural divide between fans in Japan🇯🇵 and the West🇪🇺🇺🇸. In Japan, fans really ship Gojo and Geto (they call it SatoSugu) and create tons of fan art and stories, but they mostly agree that their relationship is more of a deep and platonic friendship. 👥️ In the West, though, fans often blur that line and argue that they’re definitely "canonically in love."💞 Some even say that if you don’t see the romantic subtext, you’re being close-minded. Also, the whole idea of "shared youth" is super important here. In traditional Japanese shonen manga, intense friendships between guys carry a lot of weight❗️ So, saying or suggesting for instance that Gojo and Geto’s story is just a "failed romance" really oversimplifies things. Their tragedy is more about how their friendship fell apart under pressure, and a lot of fans prefer to focus on that clash of ideals. Now, the manga does frame the characters in a pretty straight way. For example, Gojo has this playful banter with a female character, and his jokes with his male students come off as harmless mentor stuff, which works because we’re meant to think he’s straight. Plus, the author often talks about Gojo’s potential romantic interests in a way that suggests he’s into women. When some fans point to specific scenes as "proof" of a romantic angle, they sometimes miss the cultural context‼️ Like, when Gojo changes his pronouns from the casual "ore" to the polite "boku" because Geto suggested it when speaking to superiors and kids, it’s often seen through a shipping lens. But in Japanese culture, it represents a deeper respect for Geto’s moral compass 🫡 rather than a romantic thing. And Gojo’s character song is more about matching his chaotic energy 💫 than the actual lyrics🎼🎶, which are about cheating. Oh, and there’s this rumor that Gege wanted to make them an explicit gay couple but got shut down by the editors🙅‍♂️🚫. But honestly, there’s no real evidence for that 🤔. Gege has always aimed to write a mainstream shonen series, and there are plenty of queer themes in other popular series from the same publisher. In the end, it’s all about enjoying the story in different ways! Text-wise, Gojo and Geto’s relationship is more about that classic tragic friendship. Shipping them is super fun and creative, but treating it as "absolute canon" kind of ignores the cultural and narrative context 🌏😅. Fandoms are way more enjoyable when everyone respects both sides!📚 🤝👥️💭

Lucy 🏳️‍⚧️

On your talk in the beginning about reacting to the new trailer, i'd honestly avoid it if I were you and just stick to the show since it implicitly spoils a LOT and you'd probably pick up on a good chunk of them. It's not like show-ruining spoilers just some cool stuff might not be as hype if you go into the new episodes expecting it (like showing characters fighting or stuff like that), in the end its up to you though!

Mickael Landry

Remember when we were chatting about Maki and Mai in episode 17? I kind of fumbled when I mentioned how Mai has to handle the pressure of being Maki’s twin sister 😅, and you pointed out rightly how our views on twins in the West are pretty different from those in the East. That really got me thinking!🤗 I feel like ultimately the same thing applies to how we Western viewers see the relationship between Gojo and Geto⚠️ While we might lean towards interpreting it as something romantic, Japanese viewers might see it more as a pure bromance that just flirts with those romantic vibes (a bit like Light Yagami and L in Death Note). It’s fascinating how cultural perspectives can shape our understanding of these relationships, right haha?

Mickael Landry

Thank you Slendercucumber for this thorough breakdown. You hit on something really profound regarding how Geto constructs his worldview. It perfectly captures why highly emotional people who hold a rigid, institutionalized view of morality are paradoxically the quickest to swing to radical extremes when reality betrays them. It’s the classic 'Anakin Skywalker' trajectory 😊🔜👿—when the just world they fought for turns out to be broken, the cognitive dissonance drives them to burn the system down entirely. They go full extremist just to make sense of the unfairness. I really appreciate you highlighting that psychological mechanic so clearly. Thanks again for pulling that thread, it was a fantastic insight, one of the best I have ever read. 💯👌

Aldryx_Thetahart

Gotta love you falling for the SatoSugu agenda before the halfway mark. And yeah, there are UNDENIABLE undertones of a deep love between the two of them, whether it be platonic or romantic. Either way, there is no doubt in my mind that Suguru was Satoru’s soulmate…

Bowsber

A detail about Gojo's character that doesn't come across in the translation: in episode one when Geto is speaking to Gojo on the phone, it's translated as 'being less full of yourself', but Geto is actually telling Gojo to use a different pronoun when referring to himself. Gojo throughout this arc uses 'Ore' which is basically just a really masculine and quite self-confident way to refer to oneself, which generally Japanese people only use around close friends. Geto suggests using 'Watashi' (gender neutral, polite, universal) or at least 'Boku' (masculine and slightly casual but more reserved). Gojo seems to ignore this advice, but after their infamous breakup Gojo actually does use Boku throughout all of Season 1, which to me feels like it's as a way to attach himself to the Geto he used to know.

Unholy

I'm actually so interested in how it would be to watch these first and then 0 since these flow into 0 so nicely timeline wise. Definitely not the worst mixup to happen so don't worry!

Mickael Landry

I’ve been thinking a lot about JJK lately, especially the dynamic between Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. It’s such a fascinating contrast, and honestly, the Hidden Inventory arc is a masterpiece of dramatic irony! 🤯 Take Episode 3, for example which appears to be my favourite 🫶. It really feels like the "calm before the storm," setting the stage for how Gojo and Geto’s morals completely flip by the end. It’s heartbreaking to see their initial ideals turn upside down. At first, Geto comes off as this fragile idealist, he’s super empathetic and really cares about protecting others. He sees Riko as a person, not just a mission. But his view is built on this pretty rigid idea that "the strong must protect the weak." When the "weak" (like the Star Religious Group) celebrate Riko’s brutal death, it totally shatters his worldview. His empathy twists into something dark and nihilistic. On the other hand, Gojo starts out as this detached figure, almost like a god. He treats the mission casually, not out of cruelty, but because he’s isolated by being "The Strongest." He doesn’t really grasp human vulnerability since he’s on a whole different level. He leans on Geto as his moral compass. But when tragedy strikes, it forces him to grow. While Geto turns bitter and inward, Gojo chooses to look outward and nurture a new generation of sorcerers, so no one has to suffer like Riko did. In the end, it’s wild to see how Geto’s deep humanity gets twisted by the harshness of the world, while Gojo uses his pain to connect with his own humanity. The character writing in this series is just INCREDIBLE! 💯

King Rai

This was where i started loving jujutsu kaisen, it stopped being just a show for me.

Dylan Pisani

Gojo recived tojis blessing(megumi) while Geto recieved tojis curse(cursed spirit)

domi

your confirmation of Geto being a student at jujutsu high being a jujusanpo is frying me😂😂

andre

This will actually make JJK 0 much more layered than if you just watched it first lol but omg, great analysis as always! 💖

Seryu Ubiquitous

one of those arc's you are just thinking: what would have happend if you would have cared more about the mental health of your studends. amazing arc and stunning visuals as always just sad how it all turned out in the end.

Vivasvan Gautam

Feel free to theorise based upon trailers, Dr Sophie, but be very careful with your comments on YouTube. I believe you can pretty much throw anything towards Patreon members, and people would neither confirm nor deny anything for you. JJK and CSM are particularly prone to spoilers, and these stories are still in early to mid stages of adaptation. For JJK, anime has covered about 2/3 of the manga, and for CSM, it's not even half. And a lot of major content still remains to be adapted. There were chapters from both JJK and CSM that were trending on Twitter that were straight-up major spoilers for the story. Like, if people have not specifically blocked hashtags and other keywords, I am pretty sure those chapters may have even come across for people who do not watch series or anime in general, that's the influence jjk, and csm carry with themselves. And loved your analysis. You have grasped everything up until now, and have a really deep understanding of many things that were hidden from us in season 1. Honestly, I struggle to pick up details during the first watch, and you tend to pick things up so well. But soon enough, even new gripping mysteries will be introduced. Can't wait for you to theorise and predict answers to them.

Vivasvan Gautam

Also, Dr Sophie, do you think Toji could have been a decent father to Megumi if he had been treated better by the Zenin clan? This is regarding a great point you have been making since season 1. Megumi does not value his life. He does not have self-esteem. He wants to save good and kind people; in doing so, he has a tendency to undervalue himself. Every jujutsu sorcerer has to face horrible situations where they can potentially lose their lives. Megumi is no exception, but in doing so, he always thinks of giving up on his life as a way out. I think this wound stems from Toji's abandonment. Even if Megumi was born with a very powerful technique, which has been emphasised since episode 1, I think his father abandoning him eclipses this fact in his mind. I mean, what's the point of having curse energy or curse technique and using them to save yourself when your own father left you behind all alone when you were a kid.

Katie

The iconic KFC break-up 😭 I feel the same way about Gojo and Geto's relationship as you do Sophie. That duo has had me in a chokehold the past few years. People have covered lots in the comments from my skimming. Not sure if this was said but since you watched the movie, I highly recommend you watch the hidden inventory tv outro for yourself :) Just hits in the feels and contains some more symbolism/images that are referenced a lot to the duo

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Who knows? He might have been or there might have been another reason for him to feel jaded and isolated from society. Everyone has the potential to be a good parent but your background also shouldn't define how you then go on to treat your children in turn. There's trauma that he clearly hasn't healed from but objectively I think it's obvious that without that trauma there was a chance of him being a good dad to Megumi but we'll never be able to say for sure.

Tu bluffes Martoni

Love the details in a lot of these scenes. For example, when Yuki tells geto that he has to choose between these two paths, when she talks about the path of despising non-sorcerersx she points at the exit door. It's the short easy way for him to keep going on. And when she talks about the part of him rejecting that, to keep fighting for non-sorcerers, she points at a long dark corridor to which we don't even see the end. The marathon, the long dark and hard way to which there may never be an end. And to an already mentally exhausted geto, that seemed just too much to bear. And then, there's the scene of him investigating the causes of the incident in the village he burn down. First things we see are two candles, one almost at its end. These two candles represent his feelings towards the different path. And these two candles create two shadows of him. When he finally makes his choice, one of the candle finally stops burning, the path of jujutsu sorcery, and only one shadow remains. I love these kind of details! This arc was one of the most well written one I've ever seen, and there's so much to pick up on a second watch.

Leah Henderson

I would never ignore your intro! It felt like an inside joke this time lol I now ship Gojo/Geto with the fire of a thousand suns since watching this backstory XD But also the tragedy of their relationship breaks my heart. And I don't know when I'll stop thinking about that poor girl getting shot. Just horrible. Excellent writing! Also, I thoroughly enjoyed almost every scene with Megumi's dad! Definitely an asshole but so fun to watch! Excellent react, as always! I have no real theories of my own, so I love hearing yours! ♡

Carlo Marasigan

You know, thinking about it, I think its a good thing you saw this before Zero. Chronologically this goes first after all. And maybe we appreciate Zero better with this backstory.

Henrik Mortensen

Fully agree. Love is not the same as romance, nor is romance the same as sexual attraction. Honestly people are entitled to whatever head-canon that fits them best, but it is hard to argue that they do not love and care for each other deeply. It is hard to sympathies with Getos actions, but not with his motives. I love the scene when we see them standing in blue and red, each on their own side. Gojo arguing they should kill all the worshipers, Geto saying it is meaningless, only for their view points to essentially flip.

Eve

GOD I love this arc, and having you react to it just made everything better :) I highly recommend checking out the translations of the opening and ending themes for this arc (*Ao no Sumika* and *Akari*, respectively); both reflect Gojo and Geto's perspectives and add so much to the characters.

GhostGhost

Personally, this is a better watch order for Geto’s character

SquirtleSquady

Yeah when he has the flashback to Megumi and his wife holding him, he thinks “I thought [I] had abandoned that pride” (of wanting to prove himself to Jujutsu Society and the Zenin clan) He probably had a much healthier mentality of just wanting his family when his wife was alive, and once she died all of his really bad traits ingrained from his childhood manifested. He might have even wanted to sell off Megumi because he reminded him too much of his late wife. Just speculating though.

Gpinko

I lloovvveeeee this arc it's so good! I liked JJK Season 1 alright, but honestly, this arc alone made me love JJK even more 😂 it was wild seeing Geto and Gojo in their younger days, essentially switched values. Back then Gojo was the one who didn't care for the weaker ones, and Geto did. And throughout the arc, it was so saddening to see them both confident in each other and saying "Don't worry. We are the strongest." WE. But after the Riko incident, it turns to "Gojo is the strongest". And Geto was left behind with all of this resentment and struggle. Anyway, you said everything else I would've said about analyzing their character so I'll drop you some fun music info for this OP and ED! They were specifically made for this arc, you can really feel the emotion in both. The OP is called "Where Our Blue Is" by Tatsuya Kitani. The lyrics are about the nostalgia of youth, regrets, painful transition to adult life and separation. Specifically for JJK you can see that through the visuals of Gojo, Geto, and their friends at JJK high. Blue in Japan can symbolize youth and innocence (like in Gojo and Geto's youth) and REALLY shows through the OP; Gojo's blue eyes, them flying through the blue sky together. Also with Riko, you have those gorgeous scenes from the aquarium for her last trip, and again, all of the gorgeous hues of blue there. As always English translations vary slightly but here are some of the lyrics, and they are interpreted to be from Gojo's POV on his feelings for Geto: "In the season of blue that seemed to go on forever Nothing obstructed the view of the four lined eyes The asphalt ground was echoing the chorus of cicadas It prevented me from hearing the silence of you Those days faded away Even after I got to know the smell of you, different from mine [Chorus] Our blue still lives Our blue is still clear No prayer or word could ever reach you No matter how close they could get to you In such a color as if it were a silent love Or as if it were a summer rolling down a cheek I've got a curse word for you stuck in the back of my throat It is the unvoiced voice that says "We'll see each other again, won't we?" In the season of damp winds, in the late afternoon I think of the image of us who were still nobody We could have shared everything Little by little since that day The curse of me being different from you grew thicker The sorrow behind your smile All the way I've regretted missing it To you, who bloomed and fell away as a fruitless flower Farewell" source: https://www.animesonglyrics.com/jujutsu-kaisen/ao-no-sumika

Gpinko

Comment #2 for the ED. First off, in your own time I recommend watching the ED, which you can find in the episode versions of Hidden Inventory Arc. (This is not the same ED that will be in the rest of season 2, it was only for this arc). It's not the slideshow you saw in the movie, and actually showcases a beautiful and sad focus on Gojo and Geto specifically, and you can take a lot of symbolism from there, it's so good. This song is called "Akari" by Soushi Sakiyama, which means "Lantern" or "Light". Contrastingly, the lyrics focus on Geto and his POV and his emotional downfall. Even without knowing the lyrics, you can feel that throughout the ED visuals. And here are some parts of those lyrics: "Before my goodwill breaks down, I should have told you everything In a life where night descends and dissolves, The murky feelings flicker in the dim light If accepting that there's no other way Even if I understand it's over, Somehow it isn't worthy that it's meaningless [Chorus] Realizing that something that seems to be everywhere Exists only here, Even with trivial conversations, Show me your blushing face again Today, unable to go anywhere, Sleeping, sleeping, towards a brand-new morning, Loneliness under crying Annoying, with no clear boundaries, Memories are fleeting, There's no use for yesterday Therefore, the moon is dark, light distorts, Where shall we go tomorrow?" source: https://www.animesonglyrics.com/jujutsu-kaisen/akari Also a small snippet from the music artist about writing the song: "I was deeply impressed by the scene of everyone joyfully chatting and laughing. The chorus "Let me see your blushing face again" was written based on my own interpretation of Geto's perspective. The song maintains Geto's viewpoint until the middle, but in the chorus, it quickly shifts to a feeling as if everyone is singing for Geto, as if they are all thinking about him." Sorry this is so long, I just love this arc so much and Gojo and Geto's relationship (romantic or otherwise). I don't personally ship them, though they are the biggest ship in JJK i think haha. But their relationship is so touching to me.

He left his family with tsumiki’s mom we don’t actually know why that happened though Toji left the zenin clan because of megumi’s mom dying he didn’t leave Megumi because of her death he left megumi for an unknown reason

I love your reactions, but please pause more often to talk, there is a lot of times that you are talking over the anime and sometimes you are missing things, and it can lend you on missunderstanding things in the future. This show has a lot of instances when they only explain something one time and if you miss it you will never understand it. Its not a big deal, but Im a really huge fan of this show and its power system and lore, so I want you to understand everything to fully enjoy it

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I didn't miss anything. I pause enough when I feel I need to. I do understand how the power systems works. I read and watch at the same time :) I don't need to pause to read UNLESS I didn't catch it all in which I will go back - as I have with other episodes where I've gone "wait just going to re-read that". Just because I'm talking doesn't mean I'm missing the information or not reading it. I'm capable of doing both and have done with other shows without losing the detail such as AOT. I'm not going to pause for something I've read and understood in order to re-read it for the sake of re-reading as that would just be jarring for the viewer.

Shiffer

Yeah i know thats true 99% of the time, but in this video case for example you didnt react at all neither gave any comentary on what geto says in 1:46:23, which is kinda strange when you are so invested in geto's development. Also there is another thing at the begining that you have wrong, but im not 100% sure if this was explained in season one or in future episodes so I can't talk about it just to be safe

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Because it didn't need to be discussed? We already know he's going down a dark path - that he thinks himself lesser. I don't need to mention every little instance of that. Otherwise I'd be pausing for every piece of dialogue and we'd never get anywhere haha. If I don't discuss something it's not because I've missed it. Just not every moment needs mentioning when I've already emphasised my point numerous times on the matter that we're seeing his descent and how worthless he feels. I don't always have a reaction to a piece of dialogue when it forms a smaller picture of larger moments. If I was analysing to write an essay? Sure it's relevant but for a react and first time watch? It just confirms what I've already been saying so no point bringing it up once again. I had similar instances of people thinking I missed important parts in AOT because I didn't react to a piece of dialogue but not everything needs to be fully expanded upon in detail. It wasn't missed or unnoticed - it just didn't need to be discussed in the grand scheme otherwise I'm just repeating myself :')

Glad you enjoyed this. It's definitely sad. Second time for me watching this, and I wish people didn't fall apart like this. I won't go into details but my Best friend (ex) is on a very similar and vile path to Geto. He truly has come to believe in some really heinous things and it isn't hard to actually imagine he's become a villain. Of course the difference being he can't summon demons or take over the world. So I don't have to worry about any of that. But 24 years feel like they've gone down the drain. But life goes on, right? Let's hope we can make a world where everyone can have the freedom to be happy and safe. Ah anime, why ye hurt so good?

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I'm so sorry lovely. It's definitely not easy to feel like you've lost someone. You quite literally live with a gap where you feel they should be but I'm glad for your own safety and mental clarity that you've removed yourself from that situation!

Geto is my absolute favourite jjk character. love you picking up on their soulmate energy. the thing is geto and gojo were the only ones who could match each other. who could meet each other at the same level. gojo learning humanity from geto and geto growing strong by gojo's side. only for everything to fall apart when riko got shot. and when gojo turns out to not be dead (despite toji's words), he has ascended to a stronger being. and geto is pushed further away. he gets more and more depressed, gets more and more consumed by the disgusting foul curses he has to eat, he has to watch a friend die and gojo get used as a tool all to save people who don't care and won't know their sacrifices. then he finds them. two girls cursed by humans for their powers. he kills, and saves them. his decision is solidified. if he gets rid of humans, everyone he knows and loves will be safe. curses stem from humans after all. but he still clings on to his morality concerning killig, it shouldn't be without reason, so all those sleepless nights are gotten rid of when he finds a reason and the coin deciding his future falls on a side. geto taught gojo humanity, geto lost his trying to save gojo and the others he loves. even when gojo confronted geto as he was leaving he couldn't hurt him, he couldn't do anything. everything in him told him to but he couldn't. they were the strongest. the only ones to meet each other like that. geto grounded gojo and gojo fueled geto. but geto left to change the world. change it so jujutsu sorcerers didn't have to die. so gojo wouldn't be a tool. it's so tragic and brings up a lot of what ifs, imagine where geto would be if he hadn't chosen that direction

Satosugu forever!

RunAwayCloak

Geto didn’t hate jutsus society he hates non sorcers he loves Justus society im pretty sure you see this at the end of the jjk 0 movie.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

He loves sorcerers but that doesn't mean he loves the society. If anything he's acting against it by tearing the society apart and putting them against one another so agree to disagree

RunAwayCloak

Thanks for replying I love interacting with the creator. I love having discussions with the reactors when I have different thoughts on characters and their motivations. But the only reason that I disagree is because of tengen. If he truly hated the society the easiest way to bring it down would be to eliminate tengen and the society would crumble it would also further speed up his plan because it would make curses stronger and it would multiple the number of curses. Allowing him to absorb more curses and eliminate more humans quicker making his plan of a non sorcerers being eradicated move quicker. I agree he hated some aspects of Justus society but I don’t think he hated it as a whole there are allot of aspects he loved about it. It’s just the good didn’t out weight the hatred he had towards non sorcers. The things he hated was the sacrificing themselves for humans that he didn’t deem worthy that’s one quality but that doesn’t mean he hated every other quality.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I don't think he wants to destroy society so that wouldn't be his goal. When I say he's tearing it apart it's because he's creating conflict, not that he literally wants to destroy society. It's more he hates how it is organised and wants it to change to prioritise sorcerers. You can still hate society and the way it is organised but want to alter it whether for good or bad 😊

RunAwayCloak

Thanks I love hearing your perspective and how you interpret the show and characters bc that’s the whole point of watch a reactor to see and hear diffrent perspectives your reactions are probably some of the best bc you actually try a deep dive and understand each character. I had to join Patreon bc YouTube comments are so toxic. I like interacting and people usually don’t read YouTube comments bc of spoilers and toxic people.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

I feel you on that! 😅 I have had to dial back from YT comments myself because it's overwhelming!

Violet

The absolute nerd that Gojo is ended up saving his life. I love it! As annoying as his ego can be, no one deserves to be humbled like that :') Toji was an absolute beast! I feel so bad for Gojo because that is traumatizing lol Thankfully, he has a crazy sense of humor and an abundance of fortitude. Toji has that same charm as Sukuna. A horribly flawed being with unmatched aura lol Jokes aside, I'll share some manga-only panels about certain characters when you're done with S2. The anime team were limited with how detailed they could go into each character's backgrounds, but they did a great job overall. Edit: RIP Riko :'/

Violet

I'm sorry for commenting so much, but I just had a possible revelation! The cursed worm Toji carried around called Geto, "Mommy," and asked for a hug. Then I thought back to when you pointed out Toji hugging the worm in the rematch with Gojo, and that Geto couldn't manipulate it because of the worm and Toji's close connection/relationship. What if the worm was formed from Megumi's feelings of neglect/abandonment? And it was Toji's curse from Megumi, so he could never get away from it (like the curse hanging off that hostess's shoulder Nanami killed in S1). It's probably not even all that deep, but I can't help it. Megumi and Toji's pasts are my favorite things to speculate over

Bambi

Getting my favorite arc as a binge in movie format is such a blessing in disguise even if it was accidental these are the best jjk reactions ever 100%

I Love Choso Kamo

I love how you're watching it the way I think it should be watched, it's so much more useful knowing Geto's backstory before the events of 0

Wexipo

Where did you find about Gege being inspired heavily by mlm manga? Never heard of it

• merry

in some interviews and a magazine thing he cited prominent mlm romance manga creators as inspiration such as Tomoko Yamashita. He is explicitly fond of two specific works: ‘The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window’ and ‘Black Feathers in the Heart of Love’ which are both BL/MLM.

Inrikator

Hellooo! Im here now! You recognized Shoko from THE STROLL?! AMAZING! No notes! Edit: Also extra notes (no spoilers): Tengen is a woman. I think it makes them wanting the body of a young girl much less creepy.

DrSophieDarlingReacts

Ah it's so weird they never confirm if Tengen is a woman or not! I just presumed they were an entity considering they've been around for so long haha!

Inrikator

I mean when you are that old, gender becomes kinda meaningless, right? It doesnt really matter anyway.
