I don't usually do polls but I am actually torn between so many shows!

I don't wanna hear any complaining about the poll.

I love my Shonen. Sue me!

Demon Slayer finishes first but Haikyuu is replacing it.

Monster still has a while to go but not sure what's coming after just yet.

OMMGG my heart wants jojo to win, but mob is one of the most emotional touching stories in anime, and HxH is a masterfully crafted battle shonen. (Solo leveling is just aura farming, I’ve read the entire korean Manhwa and it does not get better, the anime does is best to improve)

I'm guessing you will end up watching all of these shows eventually, in which case I would recommend starting with Solo Leveling. That way you will be ready to board on the hype-train (and possibly get more views) when season 3 gets released (somewhere between 2027 and 2028).

Hunter X Hunter is absolutely amazing but a bit of a slow burner sometimes, Mob Psycho sounds the best for sure (⁠ ⁠╹⁠▽⁠╹⁠ ⁠)

I dont know if you already know this, but JJK is directly inspired by Hunter x Hunter. HxH was the first anime I watched that made me fall in love with anime. JJK is one of only a few series that scratch that same itch that HxH left me with. The character writing and world building is phenomenal. If you enjoy JJK (which im sure you do), HxH is definitely the next shonen to check out to fill its slot

I do like Mob Psycho the most, however, and I think it'd be a good match for Sophie as well. The art style is weird, but there's a lot of heart and thought to it. Solo Levelling would be the opposite: great animation, fast paced, and just a bit too shallow. Both Jojo and Hunter x Hunter are great, but they're also quite long and take a lot of investment.

As much as I wanna hate on Mid Leveling I know it's not a bad show, it's greatly animated for the most part, great soundtracks and has quite an audience, but I have to say the other 3 shows are soooo much better

i voted HxH but really I wanted to vote for everything except Solo Leveling. Mob and Jojo's are both so good too. Solo Leveling would be an interesting intellectual exercise in terms of what happens when you encounter genuinely bad writing (takes a few episodes to get there after a pretty good start, but then it's just... whoof.) but it's not an exercise I'm gonna vote for lol *edit: Forgot to mention but as another shonen-loving girlie, hell yeah, represent. I'll never be sorry that I'm addicted to swords and people jumping too high.

Apart from Solo Levelling (sorry SL fans), these are honestly three genre defining shows for shonen!!! HxH and Jojo's are classics and had huge amounts of inspiration on JJK too, I think if you love shonen you HAVE to get around to them at some point (they were both my first and second anime ever). That said, Mob is shorter, and imo would be the best followup to a show like JJK. I think it'd really hit a lot of the beats that make you love JJK so much while being slightly less overwhelming in its presentation. Even if SL wins it'd still be interesting to see your thoughts on it compared to how people generally feel towards it, so this is exciting no matter what

Mob is the highest tier when it comes to emotionally complex and subtle storytelling. I enjoyed solo leveling, but I'll be honest I don't know if there's much there for you to dig into. It struck me as more of a show where you can turn your brain off and enjoy mindless power-scaling. Jojo is also a work of art.

Knew Solo Leveling wouldn't make it but voted for it anyway 😅 I think it would be a good palate cleanser after emotional rollercoasters like JJK and KNY. There's a saying in Finnish that goes "Laita aivot narikkaan" which fits Solo Leveling well. There's no good direct translation for it but it basically means switching your brains off. Just pure aura farming, with very good animation and music 😁

Even though it's not on this list, I would highly recommend Ascendance of Bookworm for maybe sometime in the future. The main character though a bit naive, is right up your alley for complex characters like Maomao. It's on it's 4th season at the moment.

That's understandable. I'm rooting for Hunter x Hunter regardless. It's easily one of the greatest shonens ever written. Us manga readers ate good in 2026 after years of hiatus. I just hope that I live long enough to see the ending and Togashi stays alive to finish it lol.

My god that is a good pool. I think you would really enjoy Mob Psycho, it is such a good story, and there is A LOT to unpack in it. But Hunter Hunter, JoJo and Solo Leveling are all also excellent in the types of story they tell, so there is really no bad options here.

As much as I adore JoJo's... HxH is my all time fav shonen. And HxH might be why I also love JJK so much, Gege took quite a bit of inspiration from Togashi's work. Even though i rewatched it (again) quite recently, seeing Sophie react to it would be so much fun.

The Solo Leveling hate is wild to me. I don’t understand how people can watch Frieren and appreciate a slow-burn story focused on the passage of time, but then act like we can’t watch two seasons of Aura Farming and enjoy that too. 😂 There are different types of stories, and not everything has to be deep to be good. Sometimes things can just be fun.

With hxh softly holding the lead for some time now. I wanna ask if its possible that you watch ep 1 from the 1999 version as well as the 2011 ep 1. (The 1999 HxH has less than half the story of the 2011 version) Theres a bit more insight on the MC and related characters about the start of the journey whereas the 2011 one crams those first chapters in about 6 minutes and skips over certain introductions and motivations. Its not necessary but it is just more to know about the the MC.

Cast my vote for Solo Leveling; the story and characters are deeper than most people give them credit for. It gets a lot of hate for just being an "aura farming show," but the same people who say that complain when the focus isn't on the action. I just love the subtly of the story and themes. However, all 4 of these shows are great, but from watching your other reacts, I think you'd enjoy HxH the most.
