Aaaaand we’re back with a new Honest Government Ad!

What, already?!

Yup, August has been a busy month with back to back videos. That’s because two important dates are coming up on almost the same day: the deadline for the Australien Govt’s proposed anti encryption legislation (Sept 10) and the EU’s final vote on Article 13 (Sept 12). I couldn’t decide which one to cover, so I did them both!

You know something... I've been seeing so many comments recently, like: "wow if it wasn’t for Honest Government Ads, I’d have no idea about X policy... or about such-and-such a bill currently passing through Parliament." It made me realise we fulfill a rather valuable if somewhat weird service to society here... And let me remind you that there's no bloody way we could provide it without your support, dear Patrons. Which is a round-about way of saying a big fat thank you! Before I log off and go outside for the first time in weeks (jk), I wanted to share a couple of things about this latest vid. For this one we teamed up with the good folks at Digital Rights Watch – a small but dedicated group of volunteers who are helping to build an Aussie organisation to defend privacy and encryption online (a bit like the USA’s EFF). And to help us channel all the views, shares and lols generated by this video into action, the DRW peeps have created a tool to make it super easy for us to make a submission to the Government about this new anti-encryption bill. So after watching the video please take a minute to visit the link below and make a submission. HERE'S THE LINK: https://digitalrightswatch.org.au/20…/…/19/defend-encryption

Hurry though, the deadline is September 10!

I'm thinking this is a bit of an experiment, I’m really curious to see if we can use these videos to direct large numbers of peeps into taking action on the issues we cover. Let’s see if we can flood the Government's submission system with responses to their proposed shitty anti-encryption law; and make this bs Bill so unpopular that Labor will be too nervous to vote for it so close to an election, forcing it to go back to the drawing board. Can we surprise our esteemed Government by showing them voters: a) know about the importance of encryption and privacy, b) have had enough of these endless news laws to extend state power at the expense of civil rights, and b) are not fooled into thinking this law will even keep us safe? (Criminals will always find workarounds; it's all us law-abiding folks who will be stuck with the surveillance state apparatus)

Pro Tip: if it will make your day better, tell em to stick it. But to really make your submission count, keep it clean and concise. (Unlike our video!)I'll be sending out this months' rewards in a few days and I’ll catch you soon for our next video. Till then, take care!

Good work!

It'll be interesting to see how this will go down globally. Governments have power, but big companies have stated before that they won't implement backdoors "just for the government" because those backdoors could then be discovered and used by anyone (mainly hackers of course) and quite a lot of people are not fond of that...

thejuicemedia

Absolutely! A lot of people in the infosec community are keeping a close eye on this, but we need many more to do to ensure Governments aren't able to force tech companies to become their national security operatives...

Another excellent one, and with an extremely important topic covered! Zoe Amanda Wilson did an amazing job with her acting talent, gorgeous appearance, and that million dollar smile! Hats off to the Juice Media!

Hey Marcuss, thanks for the kind words all round, so glad you liked our latest HGA :)

Agree and that's why I think content like yours is important ;)

Actually there is a "safe way" instead of backdoors. They can provide private keys for the digital certificates to the goverments. Of course hackers (I mean some ciber crime dudes) will be able to attack goverment storages and steal those keys. So, backdoor is a hole in the protection, accidentally or specially crafted. But digital certificate - basis of device security. The worst thing - you can install Signal or Telegram not from AppStore/PlayMarkt and think that your privacy in safe. But if your device is compromised - any strong cryptography is just theoretical security. Your messages can be taken while you typing them. And you (even security expert) will not be able to check this!
