Dear PatronsHere is the podcast companion to our latest Honest Government Ad!My guest is Simon Holmes à Court - who you might remember from episode 8 of the podcast. Among other things, Simon is the founder of Climate200, which has been supporting Not-Shit candidates to run in safe Liberal seats (that's "conservative" for our international Patrons) at the coming election. I believe these battles will be crucial to the outcome of this coming election. Which is why I've dedicated the podcast to helping people better understand how our voting system works, and how we can use it strategically in those safe Liberal/Conservative seats to end this shit-stained Government.I don't want to make this a long post - it's a busy time of the year and we should all be wrapping things up and spending time with family - so instead of launching into a rant here, I've written a twitter thread for those who want to read my blurb about the podcast. This is our last HGA/Podcast combo for 2021. We'll be taking a break in January to spend some time together as a family - learning to ride bicycles, fly kites and go to the beach - and recharge ahead of what is going to be an intense and extremely consequential election, sometime between March and May.I hope that you also manage to give yourself a break and be with your families or loved ones - although I know that so many are still separated from each other due to Covid.Thank you - all of you - for your support this year. It's been a hard year for so many people and you've put aside some of your hard-earned money to help keep us going. I never take this for granted. It moves me and inspires me to work as hard and smart as I can to make it worth your while. On behalf of our whole team, I want to wish you and your families a merry Christmas - if you celebrate it - and a safe end to the year. And all the best for the new (crazy) one ahead. Your juicy friends on the internetGiordano, Lucy, Ellen, Zoë - and our little ones, Luca and JunoPS. I might be able to sneak in a end of year video, so who knows - there could be one more post here before 2021 is out!

Aaron

"most australians are a little bit left on social issues and a little bit right on economic issues." I feel like this somewhat out of touch and he doesnt mind if things like education, healthcare, agedcare, childcare ect are defunded as long as his investment in renewable energy is profitable for him. To be clear i think climate 200 is a net positive, but I feel like on many issues they will let normal people down when it comes to economic issues

Michael Haugaard

"they will let normal people down when it comes to economic issues" Maybe, but what is money if earth is burning...

Peter Todd

Good conversation there Giordano. Curious - TNL (The New Liberals) are fielding over 19 candidates. They are more progressive than any of the main parties and have a surprising amount of policies (unlike the independents). I was wondering if you were going to look into them as an 'independent' party worth people's vote?

thejuicemedia

I don't think that is what he meant at all, Aaron. Obvs I can't speak for Simon, but I think he was making an observation of how he *thinks* most Australians feel about these issues

thejuicemedia

Thanks Pete. I'll look into TNL. Assuming they have science-based climate polciies, I guess when we say "Not-Shit" candidates we're implicitly including them too. But thanks for the heads-up!

Peter M

Hi, Giordano, you will find that TNL was deregistered on Dec 7th by the AEC, essentially under the new laws about party names. I was a bit sus on how much they talked themselves up and their everything to everyone grab bag policy list, claiming they'd be the government in two elections time. Just a small national executive to decide candidates and all policy matters. There is going to be an issue for people to figure out the genuine policy platforms of the different independents and parties at this election.

Peter Todd

Hi Pete, They've deregistered "The New Liberals" as a name. We know why. The party has now registered as TNL. From what I've gathered.

Peter M

No it is not registered anymore and it can be checked on the AEC website, I don't think the party as such is being very straightforward about the situation. It seems all a bit murky and complicated as Victor the leader of this party tried to get the actual Liberal party deregistered in May and he was very loud and vocal about how great TNL were going to be, but frankly it seemed like it is all a bit too good to be true I thought. Claiming to be the most progressive party ever and going to be in majority government in two elections times. They have gone very quiet. People have to be quite careful of not just taking statements at face value from unknown and untested parties or independents. In fact one of the biggest problems at the coming election I think will be the sheer level of BS from the major parties and other players like UAP and possibly even some running as indies. There is no truth in political advertising laws so candidates and parties can make all sorts of ridiculous claims and some probably will. Personally as I said the party structure looked like a small group of executives and not a progressive democratic organisation. Until they can register as a party they can't run candidates as such.

Just letting you know that we appreciate all your work. It is a case of Power to teh People ... there are more of US than there are of THEM, after all!

Sandra Kirby

Thank you Giordano and Simon. So refreshing to hear good people taking ACTION to relieve the mighty frustration in progressives engendered by 10 long years of Federal INACTION on everything that truly matters. May the deadening long days of political entitlement be coming to an end and representative democracy coming to the fore. The NLP would do well to consider joining forces with Climate 200 and its well considered and working model. Power back where it belongs. With the people. Here’s to casting off the cares you so brilliantly address dear JM team over the holiday season. Be merry and safe and refreshed for 2022.

Alen

Your video titles are just sooooo funny, but perhaps most importantly I did learn a lot from this one.

John Elgin

Just had another look at this and had a good laugh. After the current RAT fiasco and the Omicron spike this is more relevant that ever. Never has politics been more broken than now and our competitive political system is being undermined by, you guessed it, the uncompetitive Duopoly, and the market, in the form of the new flock of independents, is rectifying the vacuum and lack of competition, hopefully at the next election. Women to the rescue, again. Let's hope not just cannon fodder for the upcoming disinformation/scare campaign led by the FF lobby and NewsCorpse and stooge LNP, Palmer plants and RWNJ HON. Fun times ahead for democracy. Keep up the good work and keep "looking up". John

Kristin Gillespie

Love this. Really looking forward to you releasing these videos and sharing the shit out of them <3
