Dear PatronsHere's our latest Honest Government Ad which you've helped us to produce. As I mentioned when I shared the preview last night (sorry for the short notice!) we  were working on another HGA this month, and were about to film it... But then the government of South Australia decided to rush through a pretty hardcore bill last week that threatens peoples' right to peacefully protest. So we put the other script on hold and jumped onto this right away (it's good to know we can sometimes respond really fast to unfolding events!)Yes, protests can be very disruptive and seriously inconvenient. But freedom of assembly and protest is a fundamental right. Protesting is how we got all the rights we have today - from voting rights (for men and women), to workplace rights, and many more. Which is why there has been a huge backlash against the SA Government's proposed law - and not just from so-called "greeny lefty losers" (quoting the SA Opposition Leader), but also from unions in SA, civil rights groups and human rights groups. If you're in Adelaide, there will be a protest (of course) against the proposed laws on Tuesday morning at 9am. You can find the details here. The bill will be voted on in SA's upper house tomorrow (Tuesday, 30 May).Thank you as always for supporting our work. I'll catch you for our next HGA (the good news is it should be coming out very soon!) - till then, take careGiordanoDirect links to video:Youtube videoTwitter video

It seems another example of politicians protecting their power and forgetting it is the people who granted them that power by trying to run democracies through totalitarian policies, laws and injustices. Time to ungrant the power and perhaps also time to remind them that they are known and therefore are themselves subject to laws now and laws of the future ...

Oh, and obviously, excellent job covering and ridiculing those behind this travesty!

Peter Todd

That would be intentional.

I Sent the YouTube link to Malinauskus’s office. Hardly original, I know, but I’m hoping enough people do it that it crashes their emails. Just returned from Adelaide today, couldn’t stay another day. Next protest I’m going to do my best to get there and join in. Great work guys. Cheers, Dave

God bless you! As usual, this is not just Australia. Many states in the United States as well as many countries in Europe and Africa are taking similar anti-protest stances against environmentalists. Now as in the past we will use your videos to fight the good fight. Thanks again!

Oh the irony of citing countries in a stage of human and civil rights development as the benchmark for writing legislation, as lot of those countries we refer to as "developing" or "unstable" -- because they happen to be countries in constant civil turmoil and their leaders aren't generally granted lifetime pensions when their terms end.....abruptly. More commonly they are chopped to bits with machetes and hunted down like dogs when they try to board planes to leave the nation when a government coup takes place so........sure......informing the population the goverment is seeking to revert back our social development clock and return to banning civil protest seems adequate. Could come at a high price though...........when people are frustrated and hopeless, even Seneca the Elder would write millennia ago they can get up to some preeeeeeetty nasty business when push comes to shove and the the herd mentality speads through fear and panic. Civil protests were an evolution, not a seed of the outpouring of angst from the populace. Before civil protests ....they were all but civil. Sighs....

This pandemic of sh¡tfnckery is spreading worldwide! I'm only amazed that the petrolpuppets can write such laws with such greasy palms.

Is your next hga about McGowan?!

Mark william lane

Gee it’s like there’s a secret club these bastards belong to around the World. One shithead brain for all. A big club and we ain’t in it. From Royal family government to freedom loving Republics we seem all to be in the shit sooner or later.

Martin Short

Guess what? In the UK they are doing the same thing, but, even worse, they are putting a bill through parliament in the UK, at the moment. which will make it illegal for public service workers, ( firefighters, nurses, doctors etc), to strike. This right wing corporate controlling shit is happening everywhere, BUT The biggest problem is that there is no real opposition to it, either politically, or more importantly, from ordinary people, the people this shit is aimed at controlling. When you think about the conspiracy theory rubbish during the pandemic about "chips in vaccines" that got more traction, it really makes you wonder if they are actually putting something in the water !!! :-)

I'm sure the Laboral party were just waiting for an excuse to follow this nasty national trend in anti-protest law, but I can't help thinking that blocking peak-hour traffic for ordinary workers isn't a great way to win hearts and minds to our cause. Seems that most people didn't see "Climate Protestor Fights Evil Oil Company". What they saw was "Loonie Lefty Makes Me Two Hours Late For Work". I have a deep sense that we need solidarity more than ever, and that most people are either neutral or on the side of Good - but pissing off hundreds of worker allies just feeds into the Rightoid's "Culture War" narrative. I confess that I don't know how best to engage regular folks and make them active allies, but fanning the flames of the culture war seems actively counterproductive. Do any comrades here have ideas about how to send a message that affects the people with the power to change things, while keeping potential allies on-side?

Nice, thanks Dave! I have heard that Pete was very pissed off about the video

Thank you Ed! We are planning to make an HGA about anti-protest laws around the world, too

David Bishton

Follows the ongoing conservative and right-wing mantras, "You don't like that? Well, get a load of this. And just try and stop us." Challenge must be accepted.

Martin Linger

Honestly though, was there a real chance this shotgun proposal wouldn't pass? I am slightly shocked by how quickly laws can pass. I mean, one would wish for this kind of efficiency in other areas.

Edward Lander

It's clear to me that these protests laws are aimed squarely at climate change protestors - the very people who are worried and brave enough to take to the streets and risk their freedom and careers to try and make a difference. That difference being a liveable planet or the likely extinction of the human race ... As with all these great transitions, it's the incumbent (fossil fuel) power structures - and their lobbyists, bent politicians, think tanks, bunk scientists etc - who are desperately trying to halt an urgent and long overdue change - to protect their jobs, their careers, their wealth, their reputations. Quite clear similarities with the death throes of Big Tobacco ... Personally i've bitten the bullet and bought an EV - it may be expensive, but at least i'm no longer funding the industry that's destroying the planet. Now I need to find a cost effective solution to move away from gas central heating and i'll be completely free from the shackles of Big Oil ... :-)

Heiko Weber

Oh man, I am so sorry for you Aussies there, I hope you can reastablish democracy! Stay save and don't let them get you! You are the ones giving me hope!
