I assume she uses accidentally because she never once allowed herself to even consider that she could have feelings for Joyce so she subconsciously justified every interaction as somehow not a thing until she was directly confronted about it and forced to finally self-reflect.

Danny's not wrong, but his emotional history isn't quite as squeaky-clean as how he's presenting it here. He *was* tempted and flummoxed by Ethan, and that was when he was in a similar place to where Dorothy is now--working his way up to acknowledging a same-sex crush for the first time and figuring out what it meant for him. It's true that he didn't cross any real moral lines there, and he and Ethan were able to unpack the issue while being true to their principles...but there was a moment between them in the park that felt like it could have gone the other way. Had Ethan leaned in for the kiss then, Danny probably wouldn't have this precious moral high ground now. There's a point, I think, just BEFORE one comes out to oneself as bi where some transgressions are a bit more forgivable. Danny couldn't have been prepared for his feelings for Ethan because he'd never had (acknowledged) feelings like that for a guy before. Dorothy could tell herself that teaching Joyce how to masturbate was just a thing that close gal pals do, because she'd never had (acknowledged) feelings like that for a girl before. But somewhere in the course of developing and sending that titty pic, she seems to have reached self-awareness. Of course, the framing of Dorothy's question didn't leave Danny much room to reflect on the confusing interlude in his life/bife. It's kind of amazing that she self-corrected her statements so as not to offend any one-eyed people who might be listening in, but she had no similar anxiety about reciting one of the most pernicious stereotypes about bi people--that they're incapable of fidelity. She really was so desperate and guilty, she was willing to normalize cheating itself as "just a thing that happens sometimes when you're bi."

In Dorothy’s favor, teaching/encouraging/catalyzing Joyce to masturbate had positive results. Joyce had a sexual blossoming, did it more, shook off repression, got more in tune with herself, and was better able to open up and explore sexually with Joe, which has been a net positive so far. Even if Dorothy had unknown-even-to-herself ulterior motives, her primary goal of helping Joyce worked out. It was risky and could have backfired if Joyce had panicked, but it worked out. Dorothy followed the Campsite Rule and left Joyce better off than when she found her.

Could be completely wrong and you could be completely right, but I don't think Dorothy meant it that way...? I think she meant the exact thing you were alluding to, where you can be bi but not yet fully know or be willing to confront being bi, and that can cause you to do things that are over the line; in Dorothy's case, fully by accident. (She would not have sent Joyce a photo if Amber hadn't poked her in exactly the right way by suggesting that it was the platonic thing to do, and that trying to scrub the photo from the cloud (as Dorothy had come asking her to help with) was the suspicious, homoerotic thing to do.) (Like, yes, Amber only makes half a case for this, but there's still real anxiety all over Dorothy's face before she takes her first photo.) Also, while the laundry room incident would definitely come closer to cheating than the "joke" reciprocal lewd, as Willis lampshaded in a recent unused strips post, neither Joyce nor Dorothy was actually dating anyone back then, so it wouldn't have been cheating.

You were totally dating Amber and having multiple steamy interactions with him that you kept from Amber because you had the reasonable conclusion that her boyfriend and ex boyfriend flirting behind her back would trigger her insecurities.

People have different definitions for the word "cheating", but I definitely think "lying and hiding things" aren't any better. Danny hasn't been on screen much, and Sal has smoothed out a lot of his sharp edges for us, but this feels very on-brand for him.

Kinda of weird to put moral baggage on Danny for thing he didn't do because "he totally could have if things went differently". I mean if things went differently he also probably would have answered differently since he would have gone through a different experience

Calling it "multiple steamy interactions" is wild to me. They started hanging out as friends and Danny developed his first gay crush. He worked though realizing he was bisexual and let Ethan know about how he felt only after he and amber/amzi-girl broke up and even THEN didn't act on his feelings beyond confessing them because he felt like it would be a betrayal.

Dorothy's former roommate Sierra isn't a main character in the comic, but she *is* canonically bisexual, and is currently in a healthy and thriving poly relationship. She could probably give Dorothy advice about lots of things.

Oh yeah. Sierra is probably also aware of Dorothy’s love for Joyce. She was the one Dorothy told about the Book of Ruth (in hindsight, that was probably around the time Mx Willis decided they were gonna be a thing). Funny how we never questioned Dorthy knowing that much about lesbian weddings.

IIRC, at the time Amber and AG were much less defined and more fluid in state? Like, he started out having sex with AG, then AG kind of volunteered Amber’s (enthusiastic) participation? Only later did AG and Amber start acting independently in like, defined instances I feel like it’s not so much cheating as an impromptu headmate threesome
