Megh

Well that went better than I expected So far

Andrea Andrew

Aww. I’m glad to see that Billie passed Alice’s secret test that she can accept love. Also good to see Ruth contribute.

Uniquitous

Jennifer was only ever a construct.

Packy Anderson

This feels like "End of storyline", but then I remembered the Joyce/Dorothy (and also Joe) thing is boiling over...

C

I will admit to missing Billie. Hopefully things will be better for her.

Andrea Andrew

Damn, Alive is giant standing next to Billie.

ArchineerLock

This is taking a surprisingly healthy direction

E

Even if nothing big comes of this, it still warms my cold dead heart

Fart Captor

She's surrounded by much taller women and I'm so desperately jealous

E

Smarting of Age strikes again!

Ben Wray

Joyce's credentials as a Lesbian Love Sleuth continue to accumulate.

Dan Rabin

Alice calls her back into the light! This is the ingenious breaking of Blllie's cycle I was hoping for. One of today's walkaways walked back to her. Let's hope Raidah doesn't.

Crunchos cereal

Maybe I’m old, or privacy-minded, or just normal, but I feel like looking at somebody else’s text messages and then answering them without explicit permission sounds very, very intrusive. This is not the first time something like this happens in the comic.

Harold

@Ben Wray: Well, they might be crashing and burning before the evening is over.

Harold

Jennifer is a flat circle

Sajuuk-Khar

RUTH RUTH, MY GIRL OH MY GOD OH I’M C R Y I N G

Sajuuk-Khar

Billie becoming Billie anew is great and the healing but holy shit Ruth that is an act of pure love

Sajuuk-Khar

Not the forced, destructive freedom of the Halloween Kylo Breakup, but real, gentle, kind freedom I’m genuinely crying fuck man

Harold

I mean, we're talking about someone who routinely threatens to relieve people of their femurs, so this is pretty mild by comparison.

eeeeeeeeeli

Came here to say exactly this.

Kelly (they-them)

Ruth could try checking the tags on the main site tomorrow to see which name she's going by now

Kelly (they-them)

I thought Joyce was the only one with jug shower shoes

Sajuuk-Khar

Raidah walk into the dumping stairs 2025

Mariah

there whole relationship is built on a lack of boundries remember ruth had to barricaid the door to break up with billie. Their relationship is better but I don't think its ever going to be normal.

LupinThe8th

If any character actually has the ability to peer beyond the technological fourth wall, it's Carla. Hell, I'd bet money she's a commenter.

LupinThe8th

Billie 2: the ReBilliening.

LupinThe8th

But can she figure out why Dorothy's acting weird around her and kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

Sajuuk-Khar

It’s just Dorothy’s little gay thing

Taffy

Alice appears to have listened to new information and allowed herself to admit she heard it. Now Billie is walking off to get soft serve with her smokin' hot old bestie, thanks to her heroic ex.

Crunchos cereal

Well, yeah, true. The relationship between Ruth and Billie hasn’t been very healthy…

Taffy

An ex in need is an ex indeed.

Astariel

Wow, I really wasn't expecting such an emphatic turnaround by Alice. I guess Joyce can be really, really persuasive. For Billie's sake, I hope it lasts and she doesn't stick her foot in her mouth again. I think she deserves something good.

Rainfall

Carla's #2 Fan seems a safe bet. She WOULD wanna avoid suspicion

Alexis Smith

Alice seems like a genuinely kind person, and I do hope to see more of her.

Taffy

Not to be insensitive, but they ARE going for soft serve. Traditionally, it's impossible to crash and burn while sharing soft serve.

SkittleE

"I'm a fright" Oh god, Jason's spent enough time in this room that it's starting to passively inflict people with British

Bronxden

Ruth being a solid rock and MVP

Lisa

I'm not sure I agree with you that she's kind. Her kindness seems pretty conditional. She had a right to cut Billie/Jennifer off if she didn't feel safe around her, but I don't really see the justification for saying "You'll never change." Maybe that somehow shocked Billie into seeking support from someone who actually gives a shit about her (unlike Raidah and crew), but it could have equally just sent her down another self-destructive rabbit hole like the last time we saw Alice yell at her (https://www.dumbingofage.com/2014/comic/book-4/04-the-whiteboard-dong-bandit/dramahurricane/, which led to https://www.dumbingofage.com/2014/comic/book-4/04-the-whiteboard-dong-bandit/eventually-2/). Also conditioning your caring about someone on the fact that they got someone else to care about them just seems... odd. Seems like Alice has some of her own baggage to unpack. (Which, given what we know of her past relationships, is not too surprising.) That said, I fully agree that I'd be happy to see more of Alice. She's an interesting character, and I'm curious to learn more about what drives her.

Jey Siksa

IM NOT CRYING YOUR CRYING

Melenynder

Y'know I'd love to see more of my favorite disaster lesbians but I'd also really like to see more Ruth and Carla interacting

5099 5618 v2.0

Right, so. Re: Joyce and Dorothy--> Did D's brain actually melt down and leak out her ears after Joyce's last request?

Luin

carla doing her best

Katrina Marie Paton

Last time we checked in it was Billie and that did NOT end well...

Sajuuk-Khar

Another reason Alice is 10000% better than Rachel: she is So Tall

Terra Bruder

I'd really like to see more of our favorite disaster lesbians but Joyce and Dorothy are not in this strip

Jasmijn Wellner

@LupinThe8th Carla is a Patreon supporter

Sam G

I get where Alice is coming from. In that 2014 strip she says (paraphrasing) "you drove drunk, nearly killed us and thought that was fine." It sounds like if Billie doubling down was the real sticking point. so maybe if Billie had just acknowledged how awful and traumatic the crash was, Alice might not have cut her off So when she says "you look loved" she's really saying "oh my perception of you was wrong, thank god." I could be wrong, that's my interpretation though.

Sky Starlight

I'm gonna be giggling at "inflict people with British" for a while XD

Harold

Just to clarify, by "they might be crashing and burning" I don't mean Alice and Billie, I'm referring to Joyce's Lesbian Love Sleuth credentials (re: the "Help me prepare for sex, my completely heterosexual bestie!" situation).

Harold

I'm wondering if we're going to see Sarah and Tony again before the end, as well.

Packy Anderson

I bet she has multiple identities across the main site and Patreon.

Taffy

While I normally loathe a Secret Test, this from Alice seems pretty benign. Maybe even less of a test than a personal condition for letting herself risk more Billie.

Taffy

Safe and warm forever.

Taffy

@S-K, I think Bad Rachel might be taller than Alice, but she can take the title of So Tall away. Anything to take something from Bad Rachel.

Rainfall

So many disaster sapphics, so little time.

Rainfall

It's also possible that Alice has been putting on a tough front with Jennifer out of what she thought was necessary self-defense. As mean as her final words were to then-Billie years ago, she was also brimming over with tears and stuttering as she said them.

Rainfall

Not to legitimize How I Met Your Mother or anything but I think they had a point with the Dobler-Dahmer Theory: https://youtu.be/jkQJKeO8zUo?si=L5Hrr89qjI8nHf37 Whether an action is creepy or not can definitely depend on how the recipient views the actor, their relationship, etc.

Harold

@Seth Aaron Hershman: I love the strip where she's on the phone with the housekeeper who raised her (or co-raised her, with the Walkertons), and she refers to her father as "Senor Billingsworth."

Harold

@Katrina Marie Paton: Took me this long to realize your post was a direct reply to Lisa's last sentence ("what drives her"). Well done.

Harold

@Rainfall: It was years ago for us. In-comic it was only a few months ago. And in Billie/Jennifer's mind, it probably still feels like a few minutes ago. Or at least it did, until just now.

T Campbell

No cap, I love how clear Alice is being here. All she needs is an assurance that Billie/Jennifer has become someone who can have real relationships with others based on mutual trust--and with Joyce and Ruth, she's demonstrated that. Those relationships may not be simple ones, but these people care about Billie/Jennifer, and she LETS them care. To Alice, that's proof that she's indeed changed and is worth getting to know again. Wondering if a random Raidah encounter is going to close this arc out. Not sure if that'd be something to look forward to or dread...

Rainfall

I would love it, because I think with Alice beside her, Jennifer might be in exactly the right headspace... "Jennifer! What are you doing, is this that stupid friend from high school? I told you to do something about SARAH AND TONY!" "Do your own dirty work, Raidah. And by the way? My name is *Billie*."

Rainfall

Oh for sure! I almost specified as much (maybe "real-world years ago") but I'm typing on my phone and got lazy 🙂

Astariel

@Rainfall Yes, that's a good point and you're right that she clearly still has a lot of strong emotions about Billie/Jennifer. I'm surprised to see such a complete turnaround so fast, though. It seemed like she put a lot of effort into erecting her walls and I didn't expect them to come down easily.

Rainfall

@Astariel Oh don't get me wrong, I was also surprised! But on reflection it made sense to me. Alice was probably in love with Jennifer for years. I bet she's hoped Jennifer would prove her wrong more than once since she cut ties... Fingers crossed this goes well for both of them and they rekindle a friendship. 🙂
