Megh

Dotty looks like she's trying to disappear into her jacket like a turtle

Vivian

Dorothy's expression in panel 2

Sajuuk-Khar

But they were all of them deceived, for Joyce did know she intended to travel to Poundtown, deep in the heart of Mordor

C

"...Dorothy's gonna wreck her?" "There is no heterosexual explanation for this." Becky: *physically kicks door down* WHAT?!

Sajuuk-Khar

The beautiful juxtaposition of her and Joyce omg

Sajuuk-Khar

Joyce: Calm DOWN, Becky, she’s just gonna show me how to get banged! Becky: D8< *I* COULDA SHOWED YOU HOW TO GET BANGED! I GOT A WHOLE RANGE OF DINOSAUR THEMED TEACHIN’ AIDS!

Maude Reads Things

Yeah, they both know Joyce well enough to know they need a translation

Austin Baugh

It is the popped collar that really gets me. She reminds me of those 'Neighborhood Watch' signs.

Crunchos cereal

If there is no Slipshine I’m going to be disappointed. Also, poor Dorothy, she should learn to say no.

Mariah

dorothy looks like she is about to go to war.

MrShoggoth

holy shit dorothy's face

Harold

Joyce: "This is going to be the best night of my LIFE!" Dorothy: "I may not survive the next five minutes"

Abyssal Silena

i think this the first strip that i full on cackled at, amazing

Andrea Andrew

“🎼the things we(I) do for Love🎼

darklion

It's not, "Joyce, what are you saying???" It's "Joyce, what are you saying?!"

AE Gonzalez

🎵“Come and knock on our door! (Come and knock on our door.)”🎶

5099 5618 v2.0

Dina, however, would have issues with that.

Andrea Andrew

Wait, I thought Jack was the gay one.

5099 5618 v2.0

Dorothy's more or less experiencing the Spike Lee dolly shot, here. Just stuck center frame as the world moves around her...

Andrea Andrew

So both Ruth and Carla have suspected that there’s something going on with Joyce and Dorthy?

Astariel

Oh my God, Joyce! And look at Dorothy trying to pretend she's not there. This is incredible.

Harold

@Andrea Andrew: They sure as fuck do NOW

Jey Siksa

Is dorothy shorter than joyce?

Alexandra Falk

Wow, DoA has been so good at cutting between storylines in the past that it's a surprise and a delight for them to converge geographically here now.

Harold

@Andrea Andrew: But here's what Dorothy's probably desperately singing in her head right now: "I'm not in love / So don't forget it / It's just a silly phase I'm going through"

Sajuuk-Khar

In my own amateur writing about a scenario that may near extreme similarity to what’s about to go down, I said that Dorothy going through the halls “prayed not to be perceived” and “had the mien of a gambler who knows she will lose everything.” This is that.

Kelly (they-them)

Ah! Fuck! I meant to buy edibles ahead of time! I bet the line at the weed store will be out the door! If it sounds like I've never bought my own weed before, that's because I haven't

Andrea Andrew

As someone speaking from current experience, indica edibles work well for this humor.

Berry

Huh. The panel starts with the Four Eyed Blondes and ends with the Four Eyed Non-blondes

Daniel

Dotty's hunched in on herself, yeah.

Shane Wegner

And in the darkness, grind them?

E

Rainfall

I think she's ducking her head in an effort to hide a little behind her popped collar.

Rainfall

Dorothy, I don't blame you for wanting to have this conversation somewhere private instead of on the school steps, but oh no oh no oh no you had better not actually let this happen fffff

PaperRabbits

Let which thing happen? Joyce hankypankying her boyfriend, or having joyce semi-tricked into some form of infidelity?

PaperRabbits

I mean, I feel like Dorothy crossed that boundary a long time ago with the washing machine teaching incident.

Girlycore

And we're back to the usual script

Rainfall

Why would I mean the first thing. I don't agree with your characterization of the second, but why would I mean the first thing.

Katrina Marie Paton

Because people are weird. Its why at least half of us are here at all.

Leon

Add em to the list: Sarah, Booster, Amber, Danny* (he'll figure something out through process of elimination eventually), Ruth, Carla. Joe is only one who knows for certain about Dorothy's feelings.

Harold

@Sajuuk-Khar: Far from the Shire, The ring's on fire [Clap-clap-clap-clap] Deep in the heart of Mordor! Off topic, but I couldn't resist

Rob McBobson

Andrea: My first thought too, but it's actually from the 10cc song.

Andrea Andrew

To quote Bonnie Raitt, let’s give them something to talk about.

Andrea Andrew

I’m torn. To have a more smooth transition to Joyce/Dorothy, Dorothy should refuse and explain why. On the other hand, it’s probably inevitable, despite the drama from this decision.

Bagge

I don't know why the two of them gossiping makes me so happy

Railway Series Book Club

in 5ish years our time once joyce and dorothy are finally in a mutual romance together, ruth's not gonna believe joyce when she very frankly says "i love having gay sex with my girlfriend"

Harold

@Andrea Andrew: I assumed that you were quoting 10cc's "The Things We Do for Love," and their other big U.S. hit popped into my head and seemed even *more* fitting for this arc.

Rainfall

@Katrina Marie Paton Sure, but this would both be very weird _timing_ for me to suddenly say "oh no Dorothy, don't let Joyce sleep with her boyfriend!" and very weird wording... if I wanted to decry that, why wouldn't I have said "noooooo" like...... eight strips ago or whatever, when Joyce and Joe first made plans? If Rabbit was hoping to tut disapprovingly at someone for thinking Dorothy should "semi-trick Joyce into some form of infidelity", I'm not the droid they're looking for. I ship these two but I think Dorothy needs to tell Joyce how she feels before anything else happens here. I also don't think Dorothy's face says "planning to trick my BFF into infidelity". I think she's either... a.) assuming Joyce doesn't mean any of this how it sounds and that they're about to do something platonic that will help prepare Joyce for Joe, in which case panel 2 has her not enjoying Joyce's reminder of that part (because it's going to break her heart) or b.) planning on explaining her feelings once they get to Joyce's room and dreading the explanation, in which case panel 2 has her wincing a bit at the reminder of how little Joyce suspects, and how this might derail things (and break Joyce's heart) I guess it COULD also just be "guilt over what she's planning", but I dunno. This would be an order of magnitude worse than when she tried to talk Walky out of dating Lucy, and an order of magnitude worse than when she tried to kiss him after he said he and Lucy were "probably" broken up, and Dorothy has less excuse; she's not currently spiraling the way she was then. I'm obviously hoping for... not that. I would be very sad if this ship crashed and burned from Dorothy trying to be the Worst Friend Ever.

Rainfall

@Andrea Andrew I don't think there's anything inevitable about it. Dorothy isn't being controlled by an evil alien or anything. She can and should say something.

Andrea Andrew

I’m referring to Joyce and Dorothy as a couple. It’s gonna happen, but Dorothy can make a smoother transition to it by refusing.

Rainfall

Danny/Ethan seemed pretty inevitable for a while too. Look, I don't think the laundry room incident was as awful as a lot of people do, but this would Not be okay for Dorothy to say yes to.

PaperRabbits

I mean a chunk of the comics have been somehow informing Joyce that doing stuff with girls doesn't always make you gay + to some extent isnt a 'serious' as with a boy (this is mostly from billy tho). And a ton of people seem perfectly fine rooting for Dotty to homewreck (for the wlw and the drama of it), and I don't track all your comments on every post, so I didn't know of your past reactions?

Andrea Andrew

She’ll literally need photographic evidence, for science.

Andrea Andrew

I hope we see this friendship develop between Ruth and Carla!

Andrea Andrew

I can’t wait to see them walk by Jacob and Lucy, who will then say, “what took you so long, Bisexual me?”

Rainfall

@Rabbit I didn't expect you to be paying attention to past comments I've made, I just think it would be very weird timing for *anyone* to react to this strip by saying "no Dorothy don't let this happen, and by 'this' I mean 'Joyce and Joe having sex a few hours from now, not the thing you and Joyce might be about to do'". Like, I wouldn't call it homewrecking — for me that's a word reserved for when the cheating is specifically breaking up a marriage where there are kids involved — and also I think Dorothy letting this happen has a much bigger chance of ruining her friendship with Joyce forever than it does of hurting Joyce's relationship with Joe...? Plus they're all fictional characters. So it feels a bit dramatic to call it "rooting for homewrecking". Other people can clap and cheer for this specific drama grenade all they want, more power to them, but for me it would be more of a train wreck I can't look away from than an enjoyable narrative development, heh. To be clear: I ship Dorothy/Joyce and have for like a decade, quietly and without hope and occasionally feeling like the butt of the comic's favorite long-running joke for thinking they were cute together. I can just also recognize that this particular development would not go well for the odds of that ship actually happening.
