Nice!! Tell her, Joe, and in a way that can be constructive!

AE Gonzalez

He’s not gonna fuck you, Rachel.

Harold

"Yeah, that's *just* what someone who *would* begrudge me would say, you... you big *begrudger*, you"

Ria

I think he actually might

Sajuuk-Khar

Narrator: She didn’t. Anyway,

Sajuuk-Khar

He’d better fuckin not

Ria

Maybe when/if Joeyce falls apart, Rachel will grow some empathy for him

Mariah

what rachel is doing borders on bullying Im glad joe handled it in a mature way.

TobyTura

joe once again demonstrating how he's cemented himself as one of my ultimate favorite characters in the comic

C

I'd like to think she could better herself...but that'd require her to accept change as a thing, and that seems like a rough road.

TobyTura

SAJUUK UR SO REALLL. same tho thats what the other continuity was for

Tim Mitchell

Ok, that is going to live rent-free in her head for a while.

Kelly (they-them)

Telling yourself that it's impossible for people to change is just an excuse not to work on your own behavior and growth

Smoochie

I’m afraid both of their words will come back to haunt each other if Joyce & Dorothy play out a certain way

Bronxden

Joe development might be the most MVP thing current going on in this run but I also hope those words don’t comeback to bite him with the Joyce and Dorothy situation that might play out

Paul McCubbrey

but how can change to accept can change if not accept can change?

Buck Caldwell

Given the situation, that was pretty damned easy. He could have been a lot harsher, and I wouldn't have blamed him.

Maybeeus

Just a thought i had... I don't think Joyce and Dorothy are actually capable of sincerely and seriously cheating on their partners considering they're both huge dorks who hear a twig snap in the woods and go flying. My bet is the furthest they go is they kiss and then are either outed via whatever circumstance or come clean because they're too dorky to actually handle a long term affair. I do genuinely think whatever shitstorm is about to hit is going to hit those two harder than anyone else.

Grace Serenity

It should live rent free in all our heads

shiftdruid

joe continues to make me quietly happy in a great many little ways

Corronchilejano

I'm sorry Rachel but you're exploding as soon as he turns around. That's just the rules.

Bagge

Shows that he's spent time with Joyce

Terra Bruder

Honestly this is all we want, for people to have a crumb of introspection

Terra Bruder

Now walkyvians how are we going to stop the cheetopedo from having his cryptonacht

Smoochie

I mean I agree—-but there’s a certain tie up in the emotional cheating of in the physical. It’s kind of like…Intent. Like finding out Dorothy and Joyce had ‘laundry time’ so Joyce could learn. I think that could be understood. Like, even something as simple as a kiss is still cheating, serious or not. And you mean it’ll rock Joyce and Dorothy to their cores more than anyone else?

Jesse

Is her “people don’t change” routine just her excuse to keep being an asshole? ‘Cause that’s what it sounds like.

thlin

Omae wa mou shindeiru. Joe is definitely the character who looks most like Kenshiro.

Shane Wegner

I'm curious what outcome would even satisfy Rachel here. Like Joe kneeling down and begging forgiveness? Mass apology in the school newspaper? Execution?

Avian

Gonna see them kiss on live television at the protest, unplanned, messy, everyone and their mom knows now

joe mcguire

Joe has been guilty of being a horn dog and of being rather disrespectful towards women, but he hasn’t ever been disloyal that I can remember. When he’s with a lady, he’s generally been kind and attentive to her. Yes, outside of Joyce he hasn’t committed to any of them, but who says he has to? He’s now committed to Joyce and hasn’t shown any signs of disloyalty to her. Rachel’s conflating promiscuity with disloyalty. And she’s clearly projecting on him because he’s a convenient villain for her to hate on and make herself feel better. I hope something happens to make me like her eventually because right now she’s one of my least favorite type of people.

Uniquitous

Now run home and get your shine box.

tifani

Nothing. There’s nothing he could do to satisfy her. The only thing he could have done was to have never done the bad past behavior in the first place. She doesn’t believe in change, growth, second chances or (apparently) forgiveness. She doesn’t believe that intentions count for anything if they’re self serving in any way. And she refuses to accept the reality that the kind of level of moral purity she requires is basically IMPOSSIBLE. Something likely happened to her to make her this way. But she’s going to live a very lonely and isolated life if she doesn’t realize this world view is not only flawed it’s unsustainable. Joe might be the first to put a crack in all this if she’s willing to listen. But to do that she’d have to believe not only can he change but she can too. And she’d have to want to.

tifani

Joyce is living proof that Rachel’s entire philosophy is (almost) total bullshit. I say almost because I think there’s no shortage of living examples that prove her point that she could point to without acknowledging that those people don’t WANT to change.

Harold

@Grace Kieser: No, that was Blaine. What? Too soon?

Beck Chonigman

Fr. Just hovering around people saying "you can't change, you can't change" yeah? Well can you stfu and stay away from me?

TobyTura

I was just gonna say kissing would still be cheating lmfao

cat

I agree. if anything Joe's fear of commitment seems to stem from being a fairly inherently loyal person who is self-aware enough of his ability to hurt the people around him (likely due to his dad's behavior) but is too afraid of that possibility so he tries to keep things shallow so it doesn't matter as much when he fails, which as Joyce points out during the Do List chapter, still hurts people. for example, he's extremely committed to his platonic relationship with Danny from the very start of the comic, but for a long time, he doesn't always know how to show it in a healthy way and is therefore occasionally hurtful to Danny as Joe doesn't want to engage in deeper emotions and conversations because he's afraid he'll screw it up. from what we've seen in his relationships with Danny (platonic), Amber (familial), and Joyce (romantic), Joe doesn't let a lot of people in, but when he does commit, he has never been particularly disloyal to them.

cat

[Homer Simpson voice] "well EXCUUUUSE her for having ENORMOUS flaws that she doesn't work on." /joke

Maybeeus

Going to preface this by saying sorry if i seem like i'm starting a drop-in argument of some sort! I wish above all else to refrain from becoming "that guy" in the comments who shows up and starts shit for literally no reason. Joyce and Dorothy are mega dorks. Probably the highest ranking dorks in the cast. Both want to be people that other people can trust. This was spelled out awhile ago with Joyce and once it finally catches up to her what she's done she'll probably turn into an absolute mess. I think Joyce and Dorothy will really need to be pulled out of the closet kicking and screaming though with how bad this has gotten and if allowed to keep going will continue to get.
