DOTTY NO (DOTTY YES?)

E

Nooo you can’t kiss her if only one your asses are in jail

Jeremy AR

Look we all done dumb because of a hot woman.

Megh

Not the impulsive decision I was expecting but I'm still all about it

Railway Series Book Club

yknow when i said i was hoping dorothy would 'do a joyce' i wasn't speaking metaphorically

KaylaZX

GOD FUCKING DAMMIT DOROTHY THIS IS NOT HOW YOU FLIRT

Andrea Andrew

Is this Joyce’s moment of not wanting to lose Dorothy?

Ben Wray

Cop: "Oh man I'm totally shutting the fence between these two girls. The dramatic tension! Chef's kiss!"

darklion

something something dark side

Ria

If full hours-long gay sex is 4th base, what these two are on is like graham's number-th base

Corronchilejano

Dotty would rather risk her life than just stealing a kiss. Respect.

L2theBell

See, I can tell it’s gay by my fingertips turning cold

Harold

We may be seeing the beginning here of Dorothy's evolution from "Dorothy Keener, Dutifully Box-Checking Would-be Future President" to "Dorothy Keener, Perpetual Thorn in the Side of Authority."

Maybeeus

...they pull me RIGHT BACK IN! Becky was RIGHT ABOUT THE DOROTHY PROBLEMS FUUUCK! RUTH EVEN TOLD HER TO ACT WITH INTEGRITY EARLIER A BOOK OR TWO AGO FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!

C

Respect...but this might get rough.

Fart Captor

DOROTHY, YOU FORGOT THE KISSING

Chloe

I love Joe so, so much, he's grown into such a wonderful character after so much growth, and I want him to be happy. But *Jesus Christ*, Willis, I went from being ambivalent about Dorothy/Joyce to now being feral over them. I need these two to be so wrapped up with one another that it would require a crowbar to separate them. I need them married with children. And I need to have goddamn money by the time they HAPPEN so I can PAY FOR A SLIPSHINE SUBSCRIPTION.

Maude Reads Things

You can have both! Anger without a plan is a great way to burn out. A plan with no anger to drive it makes it too easy to bail when things get hard. You need both to make things work.

C.T. Phipps

The cops end up horribly brutalized and Sal gets blamed.

Megh

I mean she'll be fine She even still has all her limbs in the preview panels! Unless Willis like doctored the preview panels or something But I don't think they'd do that... probably

David M Willis

i'd neeeeeeeeeeeeeever doctor preview panels, neeeeeever

joe mcguire

Yup. Saw this coming’ 🫣

C

Now I'm just picturing Dorothy in full Big Boss from Metal Gear regalia, talking about the need to form Outer Heaven.

Megh

Ya know I genuinely wasn't suspicious until you said something, but now I'm concerned

Railway Series Book Club

i mean it wouldn't be the first time willis has messed with preview panels to obscure story details (the gazebo at the start of this storyline was dread-inducingly empty when that preview panel went up, for example) but thankfully Dorothy's had to use both her arms for a lot of those panels, in such ways that'd be difficult to obscure if she say, lost a limb or had an arm in a sling that's not to say willis couldn't have just been drawing fake dorothy preview panels and character models with the standard number of features for the past year of buffer building, but putting that much work into a misdirect feels like the kinda thing that'd get in the way of building up a year-long buffer (edit, took too long to write this and now it comes off as even more poindextery than it would have otherwise been, rip)

Dan Rabin

The hand-release in this strip is in the same position within the strip as a hand-hold in the previous strip. What a nexus of character arcs! Dorothy finds her new self and overcomes her fear of losing Joyce at the same time! She's not even trying to protect herself, let alone protecting Joyce. Now her admiration of both Joyce and Amazi-Girl are in the New Dorothy mix. Dorothy is not just letting go of Joyce's actual hand, but also metaphorically letting go of the part of her desire for Joyce that was a depressed person looking for an affair to fix things. There's plenty left, even of the sexual and romantic aspect, but it won't have the burden of fixing Dorothy. As for Joyce, she may finally be shedding the part of her love for Dorothy that has been based on *admiration*. She has already declared that Dorothy's decision not to go to Yale won't impede her love for her, and here's another step. I don't know whether Joyce will follow Dorothy back into the encampment—she has to balance a desire to be together with a realization that she does *not* share Dorothy's epiphany.

David M Willis

edited the background in the third panel so it didn't look like dorothy and joyce were lady-and-the-tramping a hot dog

Noelle Eve Palmer

"i'm not letting you go do that on your own. i'm never letting you disappear over the horizon ever again" huh

voyager-ngc5195

If anything I'm *more* likely to vote for a candidate who's been arrested at a human rights protest, so...

Megh

@QueenOfSodor: I don't think it comes off over poindextery or w/e Though I'm actually not that worried about Dorothy despite what Willis said. I am however concerned about Amber and AG, cause it occurred to me a couple days ago, "hey none of the preview panels have shown them lately, that's kinda weird" But then I kinda blew it off as paranoia, until about 10 minutes ago (Quick edit to add this thought: Dotty could easily have a brace that's been edited out, similar to the one Joyce wore after punching Toe-Dad)

Maybeeus

Hey, don't gotta worry about Joyce throwing herself into harms way if you're throwing yourself into said harms way instead!

Elizabeth

Just a Joyce full of anger looking for her Dororthy

Smoochie

If this is Dorothy’s cornerstone moment, she will be a political candidate that lobbyists throw money at to block… …Manifesting Becky as her campaign manager.

Jasmijn Wellner

Should have kissed her for good luck smh

Shane Wegner

Outgunned. Outmanned. Outmaneuvered, Outplanned!

Shane Wegner

Oh, and: LEEEEEEEEEEERRRRROOOOOYYYYY mmmKEEEEENER.

Grace Serenity

I mean, if some woman ran headlong into a protest after making bedroom eyes at me, I'm gonna be MORE likely to want to fuck her!

Grace Serenity

Okay, so in the span of a few minutes she went from a "Don't rock the boat" centerist, to sacrificing herself for the sake of justice while HEAVILY flirting with her best friend. Radicalized in less time than it takes to get a coffee!

Grace Serenity

See, this way Joyce can bail her out!

Ed Marshall

"You see, my day started with just wanting to do a little laundry with my best gal pal..."

Packy Anderson

We gotta make an all-out stand I’m gonna need a right-hand Joyce.

Girlycore

Release the Willis Cut!!

Girlycore

Willis has edited preview panels before. I think one of the most recent ones involved an edit to remove a bottle of booze stolen by Dina in one of the last storyline.

Girlycore

The sign says be gay AND do crime. Not "or".

Girlycore

This is absolutely how sapphic couples flirt.

Harold

[record scratch] "Yep, that's me! You're probably wondering..."

Uniquitous

Definite "charging the machine gun nest" vibes.

Acebender

"I love your stupid anger" brotherrrr

Harold

Roz is going to have *so* much more respect for Dorothy after this

Harold

@Megh: You're not the only one who's noticed the absence of Amber/AG in the preview panels, and I'm concerned too. We know Amazi-Girl is likely hovering around here, and it's entirely likely that she's going to end up putting herself in harm's way to protect Dorothy (and Joyce, if Joyce follows her - but it seems much more dramatically plausible that they're going to be on opposite sides of that fence). Not gonna lie, I'm worried about Becky showing up somehow and doing the same thing. "Ain't never lettin' NOTHIN' happen to ya." Chekhov's promise, anyone?

Harold

Willis referenced a film from 1955 in another thread here (LADY AND THE TRAMP), so I'm going to do the same in the hopes that it resonates with somebody - if anyone's ever seen the WWII comedy/drama MISTER ROBERTS, Dorothy's about-face (metaphorical AND literal) is reminding me of the formerly mild Ensign Pulver tossing the tyrannical Captain's prized potted palm plant overboard at the end.

Sajuuk-Khar

You know, given the immense undertones of “I have to choose either messy impulsive regrettable sex or an act of impulsive and regrettable integrity”, HUGE props to Dotty for choosing integrity

Andrea Andrew

I’m kinda tired of waiting for these two to get together.

Sajuuk-Khar

Dorothy: Friendship OVER with Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Luxemburg is my new best friend

Sajuuk-Khar

AS LONG AS SHE HAS REGRETS SHE’LL BE OKAY D:

Dan Rabin

In my view, they *are* together—it's what particular things they *do* within being together, and what *other* togethers they will have that neither they nor we can yet see.

Jeremy AR

It's not called slowburn because you put in the oil and it's done in a minute.

Doki

I wouldn't say you need anger specifically, as a person who literally never gets angry... but yes, from what I've learned about serious activism, having a blend is definitely the healthiest and most tenable! (If not anger, then you gotta have SOME sort of driving force.) EDIT: That said, I definitely get why Dorothy is doing it this way, because this absolutely feels like An Important Character Moment™ for her right now.

Girlycore

Lady and the Tramp is from 19-fucking-55? That's wild, it's one of my fave childhood movies.

Girlycore

Canon event, even.

Kelly (they-them)

Can I commission Joyce and Dorothy lady-and-the-tramping a hot dog for the next Kickstarter if I pledge at the make out tier?
