My favorite genre of DOA strip are the ones where the characters very swiftly address something the comments section has been freaking out about for days or more, because they have zero faith in The Process. This moment of Jocelyne addressing the points of "hey, the people who actually know things about this activity are saying to go, this is a bad idea white girl" after two or three days of people arguing about Dorothy doing this as if it somehow wasn't going to be addressed is a nice addition to that pantheon.

This is kinda why i gave up on the big thinky posts i used to make. Most of what i say is going to either be answered next page or flipped on it's head or it's a surface level observation that everyone else is going to make on their own and saying it with the most words possible won't really earn you smarty points. I gave up on the comments on the main site when i made a joke post and someone replied trying to be a smartass and i decided then and there that it wasn't worth it anymore.

Re: “more upper body strength” - this is where being an engineer helps. See, the key is having a long, sturdy handle, cardboard packing angles work great, that is fastened at multiple points (hot glue along plus 3 lines of tape across). You want a sign where you are supporting it close to your core. Also, I much prefer foam core for the actual sign part

Invoking 'Bury Your Gays' on a story where >75% of the main cast is gay or bi seems seems a bit reductive. Its a more nuanced topic than just "killing off gay characters is bad" and I don't feel like this storyline is really running into any of the potential pitfall associated with the trope.

• advocating for Dorothy's death here is a wild take • it's systemic (and as such not about the demo of this comic) • most of those characters are cis-passing and in het- passing relationships, e.g. not the ones who get Buried • it's a vibe • it wasn't amazigirl or walky that died before, but the subject of secret hookups and compartmentalized longing I don't see Tony out here conflicted about his straightness in the sniper zone. As a reminder, Mike was also the subject of Unexpected Feelings (albeit from an awakened gay boy)

To be clear, I'm not advocating for Dorothy's death. I think killing off a prominent character in what should be the middle of a major arc for her would be a bad move narratively. I just wouldn't see it as a moral failing on the part of Willis/the narrative. And FWIW, I do take some issue with how the fallout of Mike's death ended up going (largely with how Ethan ended up ignored in favour of Amber's reaction), I just don't see the happening here. I also can't agree with you wrt bi characters in het relationships not counting, especially if you're including Joyce in that. Like, if Dorothy dies, and we only focus on Walky's reaction, then sure, I'll conceed the point and be pretty disappointed, but I imagine we'd focus more on Joyce, and maybe Becky as well if that did happen. Of course, unless Willis has been drawing multiple fake preview panels for Bluesky, this is all a bit meaningless.

I recently re-watched SAY ANYTHING... after not having seen it for a long time, and what people always forget about the boombox scene is that the gesture *doesn't work*. Diane doesn't come rushing out into the rain and into Lloyd's arms; they don't get back together until after she finds out about her father.
