Technically it wasn't the face, it was the helmet Asma XD

Ragtime

Now who is naming people amazigirl?

Betsy

I love Asma so much :)

David M Willis

the entire dumbing of age cast shares a small number of braincells amongst themselves, but asma's been hoarding them all off-panel this whole time, thus justifying the comic strip's title, in this essay i will

Maybeeus

Honestly. Deranged costumed hooligans attacking police during protests isn't even unheard of. Yall saw the mud wizard.

TobyTura

Thank you Asma

Jason Rivest

If it wasn't for the year-long buffer I'd wonder if Asma would be facing deportation for her participation in that protest. Then again, with slow timeline, that might absolutely be in the table

Michael Steamweed

Person with brain cell: "Stop making bad choices!" Person without brain cell (*makes bad choice): ... And repeat. :D

Packy Anderson

I can't understand why the police are having such problems when everyone else (like the wizard) just walks through the mud.

VengeanceKnight

I think the idea is she’s muttering it under her breath here, which leads into her louder entrance in the main strip where she starts not naming people.

Jim Farmer

I'm having serious concerns that this story is going to lead to Amazi-Girl getting arrested trying to get a resisting Dorothy to safety. I think if that happens, Dorothy is going to just...break.

Harold

@Jim Farmer: An arrest is the *least* of our worries for Amazi-Girl, I'm afraid. As has been noted by a few of us, it's getting increasingly ominous that Amber/Amazi-Girl has not appeared in any of Willis's preview panels for a while. Dorothy is standing there, proudly waving her borrowed sign, and probably oblivious at the moment to the fact that two people she cares about (three, if we count Amber and A-G separately) are in imminent danger of physical harm. To quote TV Tropes, nice job breaking it, hero!

Harold

Face-Helmet! For kids!

DramaQueen

Well, let’s hope this remains fun and comical. I’ve got enough trauma from reading the news already. I could really use a costumed hero saving the heroes from cops. On a related note, that new Superman looks fun: immigrant vs billionaire!

ValdVin

Haven't red-state governors have been shuttling people with the wrong-sounding names and too-dark skin to a number of places before January 20th? Indiana's AG trying to deport Asma (given the information of September 2024 when written) is certainly something Willis could have drawn a comic for without barely speculating.

Jason Rivest

Of course, but surely you wouldn't dispute that this has been ramping up dramatically this past few months? I'm just saying, if a year ago there had been a storyline about Asma seeing her visa revoked and deported after participating in a nonviolent protest, it would have felt like something that could maybe happen; while if such story was published tomorrow I would figure it was inspired directly from current events... Except Willis has a year-long buffer, so if he did plan that storyline, I would qualify that as prescient. Of course, with a single day taking weeks/months to go through, it may well be that we're still seeing the fallout of that protest a year from now, so everything's possible.

Silent

I've lost track of whose in the encampment and whose outside. I'm pretty sure either Joyce went back through the fence after Dorothy, or Asma's outside the fence now. But I I choose to believe Amazi-Girl is just flipping over the fence between strips.

Stathis N.

"This is a rescue, now". Indeed. :O

Maybeeus

I believe Asma and Amazi-Girl are close by the entrance while Joyce is directly outside the gate. Dorothy at the moment is probably around the middle of the encampment while Jocelyne was originally furthest from the entrance. I could be wrong but it makes the most sense to me!

Astariel

Big month for Asma in the bonus strips.

Gale Tazzin

i think asma knows what she's doing a lot more than AG does

ValdVin

Your musing comparison of "a year ago versus tomorrow" is the kind of thing I've tried to express but I've been not as deft as you.

ValdVin

Someone who's already a customer of Clarice and/or Candy?

TobyTura

genuinely wish this was a site strip too

Rodrigo Caetano

AG: -Blast it JOYCE, hold on! *Flying kick the cops Joyce: -Look out Amber! AG: -Don't shout names!

holdinglines

is it dropkick knee or drop-knee kick?

ValdVin

As a boater would say, "Better a rescue mission than a recovery mission". (Given what cops, Border Patrol, and ICE are doing IRL, I am not sure if I'm kidding.)
