"In my defense, my emotions are fucked right now, and I regret saying anything..."

William Lewis

Don't do that to her Becky, just cuddle. That's what you really need. A cuddle and a cry.

Dorothy Cooper

Okay I was literally like "did these two coordinate to hurt me"

C.T. Phipps

I'm not begrudging Willis as I've been a fan of his for eleven years but I feel like Becky is the least narratively satisfying person to be upset by this.

Uniquitous

I was just thinking the same thing. Apparently it's sad-sack week.

5099 5618 v2.0

(Dina, *please* don't give up on her without a fight, but...ugh. Becky, you are *definitely* going to need to make this up to her)

Star Ringer

I'm not sure what's worse- if Becky is trying to hurt her, or just doesn't care if she does.

Logibear

"What terrifying eyes you have Becky" "All the better to blame myself for everything with my dear"

5099 5618 v2.0

@C This does seem to be all but a [ (psychotic break) | (existential crisis) ], so...yeah.

Astariel

Oh man Becky, I know you're hurting, but don't lash out at Dina. She doesn't deserve it and it's not going to make you feel better.

Logibear

Its looking like a cuddle and cry aren't quite gonna cut it here. Dina's gonna have to break out the big guns methinks.

electric_claire

Yeah, this whole arc confuses me. She's apparently spent all this time with Dina pining for Joyce?

Fart Captor

BECKY NOOOOOOOoooooo 😢

MrShoggoth

I like it. She’s unpacking a ton of emotion bombs that have just been dropped and emotion don’t follow rationality and logic. I once wiped a third of my Facebook friends because my ex tagged me in a funny post about your earliest memory and it made me realise mine was tied to something that has traumatised me for most of my life. I know now that was an overreaction but didn’t in the moment, so i think Becky’s reaction is understandable even if it’s not logical.

ArdieBea

What's the bet Becky is on the IDS site torturing herself reading everyone's comments on The Kiss?

5099 5618 v2.0

@electric_claire Sucks, but it's a variety of thing I've seen before. Really do hope they hold together, through this, but whether they do or not and how much it costs is anyone's guess from here.

GundamBradley

I am hopeful that Dina will give her some grace here, but like, that isn't going to do any good if Becky cannot give herself any.

Harold

@Logibear: She's gonna need to take her hat off

Alexis Smith

I think that she knows that this is the last conversation she should have with Dina, but there is SO much hurt in her eyes right now.

tifani

Oh god. Yeah. If Joe took this the best he possibly could Becky is taking it the worst she could and both situations are sad as fuck.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Buck Caldwell "Ohhhhh, Andy...." (/Shawshank Redemption soundtrack plays)

Kelly (they-them)

Trigger warning for suicidal ideation . . Even odds Becky is researching different potential methods if suicide. Been there, Becky. That was most of 10th grade for me.

SmartAlec105

Yeah, the whole bit with Joyce and Dorothy considering Becky to be a bigger deal than their boyfriends just felt disrespectful.

NinjaZaku

I'm not sure how to read Becky's expression in the last panel, but it's haunting

Grace Serenity

Becky, pull your head out of your ass and realize that torch you carried for Joyce has been burning you for a decade, not lighting your path. Your very real and in love with you girlfriend is trying to help you up! She's handing you a ladder, please don't start trying to break it.

NinjaZaku

I think the latter. She's cognizant enough to recognize why what she's said is hurtful but she's too deep in her grief/shock to care

5099 5618 v2.0

@Kelly (they-them) I would like to be able to disagree. I really would.

KittyKai

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

tifani

Yeah I am deeply upset about the Clinton Eliot situation. And Willis and Jeph must have a hell of a text chain going right now.

5099 5618 v2.0

@ArdieBea Oh, God, that's brutal. (65%/35% in favor, I'd say)

Logibear

And put it on Beckys head... yessssss.

5099 5618 v2.0

@SmartAlec105 Perhaps an accurate assessment of the situation, however. In terms of amount of immediate potential damage resulting, anyway.

Fart Captor

If they break up I'm gonna cry so hard that I shit and piss and barf all at once, expelling all of my fluids in moments, leaving a withered raisin of a husk, and it will be ALL YOUR FAULT, Willis 😤

tifani

WE DON’T KNOW THAT WILLIS IS STUPID ENOUGH TO DO THIS YET.

Dan Rabin

This strip looks so simple, with five panels alternating Becky, Dina, Becky, Dina, Becky. The only significant movements are Dina's face as she states Becky's response to distressing current events, and Becky's eyes as she reveals her terror that Dina might abandon her, as she perceives Joyce has. Dina will not abandon Becky. Indeed, she is trying in her own way to understand and help Becky. Dina struggles with the irrational, but rationality will not help Becky today. But in any case Becky should see a doctor about those eyes.

AE Gonzalez

Dina, hug your girlfriend.

tifani

Although it would unite his entire comments section…against him. Maybe he’d prefer that after the last two months?

voyager-ngc5195

I was going to suggest Dina take Becky on a short weekend trip somewhere off campus, maybe say Dunes National Park and let her run free and howl at the moon for an evening... ...But then I realized Amber's still half-dead in the dorm room so Dina doesn't really have the ability to leave. The poor clever girl's got too much on her plate and both problems stem from the same two girls with newly-filed fingernails...

Logibear

That or she's reading the backlog of Joyce's comic whose title I can't remember, beating herself up about how she missed the signs.

Viga's Art Room

Sometimes those with abandonment trauma will say things like this because they're controlling the abandonment AND they feel like they deserve to be abandoned. It's weird like that. Dina will need to slam Becky in the face with a metal ladder to save her. Possibly repeatedly.

5099 5618 v2.0

"To shreds, you say" [1] [1] - Ah, my heart wasn't in that one. That poor kid (._.)

EnterTheHero

Becky, just breathe. She’s not gonna leave you.

Star Ringer

I'm just worried there's a non-zero amount of "I'm going to say what I think will make you leave me alone the fastest" and choosing to hurt.

Viga's Art Room

I hope this doesn't become a suicide attempt storyline.

Harold

@electric_claire: I don't think that's the intended takeaway from all this. Becky has been freaking out for much of the post-timeskip era about the idea of sexuality being fluid, and a million questions have been swirling around her brain: "What if I'm not really a lesbian?" (She dismissed *that* one pretty quick, of course.) "What if Dina decides I'm not enough?" The big question has always been, "What if Joyce isn't straight? What if she really *is* into women - just not into *me*?" Well, she has confirmation of that last one now, and it's seriously fucking with her head and making her say shit like this. Dina is famously, endlessly patient with Becky, but this is going to be a real test.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Tifani After Ruth and Billie's post Time-Skip estrangement? I'm not sure I really hope that isn't where this goes, tho.

Katrina Marie Paton

Well, strictly speaking she's keeping within the rules if she doesn't succeed, but the trying alone is going to be pretty damned catastrophic. Or I'm reading it completely wrong. Again.

Ragtime

No. The cops hurt Amazi-Girl. Dorothy and Joyce don't deserve to be blamed for that.

Grace Serenity

I was a few years older than Becky when my brother took his life. About 6 months later I got low enough to consider it myself. But I only considered it for about 30 seconds before my brain kicked back in and I realized all the people I'd hurt in the process. I decided that suicide was never going to be an option for me. I'm hoping Becky feels similarly and it's just never an option she considers

5099 5618 v2.0

@Logibear ...and somehow it got worse!

Dan Rabin

If this becomes important to the plot, it will be shown. She could be researching evangelical nunneries to enter for all we know.

MrShoggoth

I mean, I know she’ll get there eventually, but it’s been less than an hour since she got emotionally roflstomped. The nerves are so raw Gordon Ramsay is about to start yelling at the chef about it.

Logibear

Right? Its either a serious medical condition or her face is moving very quickly into the background. Both should have someone check on it.

Ragtime

I think she did before when Amber told her she was probably a rebound.

Tessea

Dina just can't process hyperbole and emotion the right way for handling this. I'm so worried Becky is going to alienate Dina in a burst of uncontrolled regret and self doubt. I'm sure they'd get through it in time if they're able to properly talk about things, but..... Yeah, I'm worried about these two. At least Becky isn't alone.

Ria

Ow fuck ouch oof god no ouch shit ow Been there Becky :((( I hope she has the patience to stay by you through this. And if she doesn't, I hope you find some grace for yourself through fucking this up 💖

Logibear

Its one of my superpowers. Making super quick jokes, and turning things into Doom Spirals.

Grace Serenity

I hope she gets Mandy and Sierra as well! #illseemyselfout

Sajuuk-Khar

Dina babe this probably is a time to talk about anything other than God’s existence, like, your iguanodon-themed idiot needs an anchor back to earth Also a huge double fuck you to the blocked guy that left a reply saying Becky made Joyce’s coming out/relationship “all about her” fuck you *sideways*, guy

shoutytrack | issa maspro

ah, becky. I think she's been strong for too long and that last burst of being in proximity to A Good Dad on top of everything else..... honestly, feel like Leslie is the person to call here while Dina takes some time away to be the nurse that Amber may come to rely on. I don't know if we're in for a timeskip or not, but I feel it would make sense soon? that, or Ruth. guess we'll see. my heart does genuinely go out to becky though. get those clippers you'll feel better.

Megh

I don't think Becky's actually looking at her phone seems like the pillow would be covering the whole screen

Sajuuk-Khar

Not to harp on it too much but that opener is like a ladder made of pasta, Dina gots to get more serious about her ladder

5099 5618 v2.0

@Grace Kieser "Liking" what you posted seemed ( inappropriate | insufficient ). Thank you for speaking to your experiences.

DiDi-chan

And back to this devastation.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Raye Not shot, tho. At least I think the verdict was she wasn't shot.

Sajuuk-Khar

There is hope if Dina can summon a burst of emotionally charged honesty like when they first hooked up and it doesn’t hit all of Becky’s abandonment trauma triggers in the wrong way! So the hope *exists*!

Grace Serenity

@smartalec105 Becky IS more important than Joe or Walky to both these wonen. Joyce only dated Joe for less than 2 weeks, and Dorothy was only back with Walky for 4 days. Becky has been Joyce's friend since childhood, and Dorothy's roommate since the term started.

ArdieBea

I think an important part of her distress comes from that 'good dad' accepting dorothy in such a way that becky was dismissed as unworthy.

Logibear

Just read the description and if this is the specific story beat where Willis considers self-imposed exile, then I am very worried.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Issa Rodri I am a little surprised she didn't immediately head over to Leslie's place.

Mariah

or that person that said beckys issues is "joyce is not sleeping with me" like im sick of people downplaying beckys trauma her coming out was tramatic and joyces coming out as well as her complicated feeling about joyce is rewriting all the things she has just accepted about her life. Maybe they wanted joe ot walky to have a more angry reaction but you don't have to take it out on becky.

5099 5618 v2.0

@ArdieBea Oof. Yeah. She's wrong, of course. Her "worth" isn't even a tangential factor in that, but I can't imagine she'd hear that right now.

William Lewis

It's always, only, the best place to start...

Mariah

Im worried about the haircut the lack of dina and that preview panel of her and ruth.... all are bad signs.

Mariah

given that the mainsite really can't even handle a cheating storyline and the general apathy a lot of commenters have towards becky I think the reaction to that would make me feel sick.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Mariah I am really hoping Red Flag doesn't actually set sail

5099 5618 v2.0

@Magic Chopstick Games That sounds like an awesome album. King Princess's latest?

Mariah

I feel like we need at least one "wholesome" f/f ship and despite how compatable joyce and dorothy are the cheating is always going to taint the ship for some people.

Mariah

as a sicko I would unite with the paladins for dina/becky.

Mariah

because people are not understanding why she is upset and just seeing her as the "horny lesbian" without any nuance.

Simon Magid

I am sadly unsurprised that Becky's abandonment issues are resurfacing. :(

Fart Captor

Like a fool she's tryin' to get Hara Urara that big win at the Arima Kinen, just adding to the heartbreak 😔

ArdieBea

I can't see it. No way Ruth would date yet another of her charges would she?.... would she?

Mariah

thank you Im tired of people thinking this is just "becky thinks she deserves joyce romantically" basically acting like becky is a incel when her problem with fluid sexuality her trauma with her dad the fact that her best friend and roomate did not tell her their relationship and the abandonment trauma affected becky since her mothers death are all factors here but no lets just downplay her emotions because joe is the center of the universe.

Elizabeth

I do not think Dina will be so easily dissuaded. I feel like Becky will likely double or triple down before it gets better, though. Possibly she pushes Dina past her limits, but Dina’s stronger than some might give her credit for. I continue to hope for them, because they complement each other well.

Mariah

I think my issue with the joe fandom is less about him and more about the fact that some have way more sympathy for him then any of the the female characters in this comic. which reflects a larger pattern in fandom of giving sympathy and empathy to male characters and demonizing female ones. Like becky did not do anything "morally wrong" here she even helped her friend in what she thought was a dangerous coming out situation yet she is still getting attacked for having feeling about this or because her feeling are not as important as joe and walky. I don't know Im just sick of the same pattern and commenters thinking that just because they are progressive or women or a part of the lgbt community that somehow shields them from mysogyny because that clearly is not true.

Jayne Lindgren

"Just give me all the emotional angst you have. Wait, wait. I'm worried what you just heard was, 'Give me a lot of emotional angst.' What I said was, 'Give me all the emotional angst you have.' Do you understand?" - Someone, to David Willis before he wrote this storyline

Waifu Purplebutt

Joe got cheated on, Joyce cheated on him by her own admission. Dorothy cheated on Walky. Becky is upset about Joyce, her first love and best friend, whom Becky thought was out of her league because she didn't think Joyce was bi/gay, is in fact bi and so Becky is dealing with the Shoulda Coulda Woulda's along with abandonment issues. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder preventing you from accepting that people you identify with can be in the wrong, and reject it when they're called out for it while people you don't identify with have been wronged and are thus sympathetically favored for it.

Tim Starliper

@Harold - very similar to what I was reading. Someone elsewhere commented about all the time Becky spent with Dina. Adding to what you said, I think Becky suppressed her feelings towards Joyce when she (Becky) got together with Dina. Dina has already shown that she does care for Becky, and she has - as you mentioned - been endlessly patient. I think Dina will be the one that stays strong and helps Becky through this while also helping Amber/AG recover from her injuries. I see Dina as a rock to anchor the others. Becky just had a lot of suppressed trauma, emotions, and feelings pulled to the surface in (to her) a very traumatic way, and was dealt a series of sucker punches in the process. She needs to process all this, and needs the support of her girlfriend to deal with this, even if that is just Dina being present and patient. One thing we should not lose sight of is the timing here - while it has been many days for us, it has been minutes - maybe a bit more - for the DoA cast. This is all very new and very raw.

Mariah

becky is not in the wrong here im reacting to the way the fandom has treated her now and even before the cheating even happened. Dismissing her trauma and reducing her to steryotypes.

Rob McBobson

It's cool, people, it's cool. They're gonna talk it through, and they'll be fine. Obviously. (And the best part is, if that somehow does NOT turn out to be the case? I won't even be *disturbing* my neighbors with my reaction, since my shrieks will be so high-pitched that humans won't be able to hear them in the first place! So it's cool! Really!)

Shane Wegner

Bart: “I’m feeling…what’s the opposite of bad dad?” Homer: “Good dad?” Bart:”Not THAT far from bad dad.” Homer:”Less bad dad?” Bart:”…yeah!”

Tim Starliper

I am going to start with Joe and Walky, just to get them out of the way (since many seem to be concerned about them). Joe seems to have already come to terms with Joyce and Dorothy, and looks to be accepting of whatever may come. Doesn't mean he isn't possibly reeling on the inside, and I do feel bad for him, but at the moment he is relatively stable. Walky is....Walky. I don't think he really has much concern. While Dorothy did get together with him again, that is already very much an on again-off again situation. Out of all involved, I think Walky will be, and is, just fine. Becky, on the other hand, is clearly not fine. Not even in the same universe as fine at the moment. She has past trauma and abandonment issues, that is already established. She has had a long-standing crush on Joyce - even though she has a girlfriend, her feelings for Joyce did not evaporate, they just got pushed back to hang out with the abandonment issues and other past trauma. The Joyce/Dorothy events ripped all that suppressed trauma, abandonment issues, and the feelings for Joyce right out - like reopening a serious wound, then throwing salt on it. She is lashing out at Dina as a response. Likely a knee-jerk response, and is not really thinking clearly - if she is thinking at all. I do not think Dina is going to leave Becky. She has already shown great patience with Becky, and I think that will be seen again here. She will become the rock that anchors Becky, even if Becky doesn't know it. I mentioned this in another reply - but the timeline here needs to be considered. Yeah, WE have been watching this unfold for some time now. For the DoA cast, however, this has taken place over the course of a few hours at most, more likely considerably less time. What we see in different strips is not happening serially - what we see in some of these strips (particularly the last few) is very likely happening simultaneously. Not something easy to portray, and when reading a serial comic it can be easy to lose sight of the passage of time for the characters in the comic, when we are seeing the events over a much longer time span. Becky will have some seriously rough times coming up. I don't think the Joyce/Joe relationship is really settled, and I am sure it will cause some strife with the budding Joyce/Dorothy relationship. Through all of this, Amber is recovering from what appears to have been a pretty serious injury, and Dina is taking care of her in some manner as well. I think Dina will stay with Becky as she works through all of her baggage, I just get the sense that Dina is loyal like that - and it's pretty obvious Dina cares for Becky. Too much to just walk away, I think. Dina doesn't strike me as the 'kick 'em when they're down' type.

Jesse

Foot, meet mouth.

Jesse

Not like that!

Syl

yeah preview panels do show a mean-looking Becky with new hair in a few storylines’ time

joe mcguire

Are people demonizing Becky? Are people supporting Joe somehow at Becky’s expense? I see Becky and Joe as the biggest victims in all this. They both are collateral damage in Joyce and Dorothy’s self discovery. Dinah too. And Walky, and even Sarah and Amber. But Joe and Becky are at the center. Joyce and Dorothy have every right to be together, but they certainly didn’t do it in an optimal way. And I’ve been told I’m wrong for suggesting this but I haven’t been given an understandable reason as to why— I think there are multiple routes to be happy; I think every route has pros and cons, and sometimes you have to deny yourself in one way in order to pursue happiness not only for yourself but also for others around you. I’m of the thought that Joyce chose a path to happiness with Dorothy on it because it was something she subconsciously wanted for a long time, despite being on a path for Joe that also would have yielded happiness. We can’t know for sure, but I think she could have denied herself the Dorothy path and gone down the path with Joe and found a different but still valid kind of happiness that as an added bonus didn’t disastrously impact all their friends. I kind of think Joyce chose Dorothy because it was the most recent choice. And Ive gotten shot down in the past because people think I just want her to pick the heteronormative option, but it’s more about I think Joyce and Joe have a really good effect on each other, and Dorothy and Joyce tend to have an insulating effect on each other. Like they’re kind of codependent. I could be wrong though. Maybe they’re meant to be together. They still went about this the worst possible way. So in that regard I’m kind of anti- Joyce/dorothy but I’m always pro Becky. I don’t see how she’s done anything wrong. She’s hurting Dina’s feelings, yes, and that’s not good, but only as a direct result of like, the most triggering thing that could happen to her. She’s going through a maelstrom of feelings that she didn’t really have a hand in setting off. Not to say she’s not responsible for her actions, but she gets a bit of a bye for being blindsided in the most painful way I could think of.

DramaQueen

Yes, people are acting like Joe and Joyce were a serious long term thing. He knew it might not work out with Joyce, he knows she didn’t know herself. They are all still only half-baked, not finished, still don’t even know who they are, Joyce even more than all the other freshmen. I like Joes maturity, he’s really growing here. But yes, you are right, let the girls be the heroes of their story here. Let us have nice things, every movie and tv show is all about the guys.

DramaQueen

Of course that’s was all in Becky’s head. He wasn’t thinking about her at all, he knows Joyce was never into Becky that way. And as far as he knows Becky was not into Joyce either. He was just thinking about Dorothy’s grades and accomplishments. Becky was so raw right then though.

DramaQueen

Let’s hope it doesn’t get that dark. We need simple joys, untarnished by guilt. It’s difficult living in 2025 enough already.

DramaQueen

Don’t blame Joyce and Dorothy for that. It’s not their fault Becky has piled so much into her feelings for Joyce. As far as Joyce knew they were just friends her whole life and she never even thought of Becky that way, let alone betrayed her somehow.

DramaQueen

Yes, she’s almost like an obsessed stalker. Like the guy who pretends to be your friend while you complain about other guys, secretly in love with you the whole time. It’s a little creepy and I hope she snaps out of it. She’s built a life here and shes built a relationship with Dina that’s wonderful.

shoutytrack | issa maspro

to follow up on the thought of "a good dad": he's cool and offered pizza and a "don't tell your mom" - it hurts to think about. i hope she gets a break from the whole brown family tree for a bit, sometimes screaming the feelings out helps. and like... becky's social circle is intertwined with Joyce's too! therefore she will always be in proximity to The Thing She Longed For all along while some of these (lovable, yes) assholes they call friends are going to range anywhere from skepticism to bonafide celebrations. it's so perfectly hellish and right now she might be thinking about the #dranks incident in an entirely new light, on top of everything else. I don't know. This got a little fanfic-y. glad this comic exists though this is a really good strip at just. Illustrating a sense of heavy air in a room, I guess.

Logibear

Please Willis, think of all of the cats in Rob's neighbourhood that would suffer if this happens.

Railway Series Book Club

oh this is GOOD, i'm excited to see where this goes. i'm so glad the penny is finally dropping re: Dina's place in Becky's heart vs. Joyce's

Seth Aaron Hershman has they/she pronouns

i like becky's drama because things are happening and i do not like joe's drama because it is an absence of things happening and that's all i gotta say about that

Ernie O'Dell

Real world time Walky's going to spend the next few months on the toilet from all the nuggets. THEN he will be fine. 😇

Joey245

Willis Willis don't you do this Don't you DARE do this

MrShoggoth

As the Willis giveth, the Willis taketh away

Empress of Robots

I am finding it harder and harder to be sympathetic to Becky in light of the incandescent anger I feel at her hurting Dina by being a butt

Smoochie

@Mariah can we also talk about Joyce and Dorothy getting as good as a green light from her dad while Becky got…so very the opposite of that from her own father multiplies those factors you mentioned by ten?

Harold

It's Willis' alt-text here that really should have us worried. I was tired when the strip posted last night, so I didn't fully make the connection right away that Willis is musing about exiling *themselves* to a non-extradition country to escape the fury that might be coming from the readers. Buckle up, everyone.

Harold

@Logibear: But Doris has DARK hair!

Harold

@Alena Hyper: My eyes keep seeing this as "the last conversation she WILL have with Dina," and I am desperately trying to force that misread out of my brain

Smoochie

Eh. Becky is kind of allowed this—I just don’t think she’s quite verbalized it “right” yet. It strikes me as…deeper than just a sordid crush on Joyce that has gone on. Especially in the face of caring about Dina as much as she does. One definite is that comparing two journeys of getting to be true to yourself—Becky has had to go through levels of pain and suffering and still had to get luck in her corner a few times. Compare that to Joyce (as far as Becky knows versus what we the readers know) there’s a girl who has been pining for her and what’s this? An accepting dad! A sister who can offer a sense of familial camaraderie! Front page of the paper for all to see. Whether their now ex-boyfriends were cool with it or not, who cares. Joyce and Dorothy’s coming out party was exciting and emotional and a *journey* in atheist bi-lesbian saga. Becky, who has tried to be at her best adhereing to her religion’s teachings? Had to eat shit to get here…And why would any caring, empathetic, all knowing God do that to her?

Empress of Robots

Okay, those are all really really fair points that I guess I keep glossing over because (textually) Becky seems to only explicitly care that Joyce is gay for Dorothy but not her. And that to me feels like a betrayal of her relationship with Dina which has been going on for 4 months now. They've talked about marriage already.

Megh

I'm sure SEMME is involved somehow

Jasmijn Wellner

Becky's belief system is entirely girl-based. I can relate.

Donny K

Willis this storyline is hitting me so hard in the babyqueer memories thank you but also wtf dude ow OW

Alexandra Falk

I'm not sure I can Becky, Noooo any harder.

Sajuuk-Khar

Again, being fair to Becks, Dina is not starting this conversation well. She’s fumbling the opener. I don’t blame her at all, the situation is a minefield, but that is not a good way to kick off.

Sajuuk-Khar

Honestly I’ve toyed several times with the idea of a DoA fanfic where SEMME is a like, super black-ops CIA program that for some reason is using Indiana U as a testing ground and a vault to store its captured aliens, I think one pseudo-idea was Tony was an agent He’s got no tolerance for buffoonery because he knows the real stakes, etc.

Dolls In A Day

Seconding all of this! Becky has gone through SO MUCH to get to where she is now. Lost her school, her home, her dad. I'd also feel some kinda way if I went through all that and then watched my best friend have a (seemingly) near perfect coming out. No wonder it shakes Becky's faith. Joyce looks like she's getting blessings poured over her and she doesn't even pray anymore.

ArdieBea

The Walky-verse memories may or may not be helpful here. Remember that Dina was blown up in that continuity. Willis surely wouldn't do that to her twice?

Megh

to shreds you say?

Dmitri0240

Becky's feelings are understandable. It's also entirely understandable that she's not yet wise enough to know that this is one of those situations where using your loving partner as a sounding board for your raw, unprocessed feelings isn't a good idea. If she had just immediately went over to Leslie's house and unloaded there, it's entirely possible that she'd eventually arrive at "Joyce coming out brings closure to the one big obstacle in my relationship with Dina, and while it hurts now, it will be a good thing long-term". However, as understandable as Becky's feelings are, it would be equally understandable for Dina to see Becky's reaction as a betrayal and to respond accordingly in anger and/or grief. Or maybe she's mature enough to be the friend that Becky needs right now, and worry about their relationship later. It sucks that the people who have done the least wrong (Dina and Joe) seem to be the ones to be hurt the most. But when people demand that Joyce and Dorothy face social consequences for being audacious enough to have a personal epiphany at an inconvenient time, it's inevitable that people get caught in crossfire.

Harold

@Megh: I laughed in spite of myself

tifani

Gonna take a break from the horror to plead my case for Dojo Jojo to be the official team poly name. For these reasons: It works to cover the Dorothy/Joyce ship and the Joyce/Joe ship as two different relationships in the same thing BUT in a triad situation Dojo could now cover the Dorothy/Joyce and Dorothy/Joe ships. Jojo is Joyce and Joe obviously and we all know we’re hearing it in mojo Jo Jo’s voice. Given the Dexter show has that monkey master guy we could be team dojo Jo Jo: the monkey masters or just monkey masters as a shorthand. And it covers 2/3 of the ship’s favorite show. It’s elegant. It’s deranged. It’s linguistically bulletproof. I rest my case!

Dina, in the future, from behind a plexiglass shield: “To shreds is the best I could do.”

meh

this better be the start of becky's "develops real self worth instead of performative self worth" story line willis. or i swear to all the gods i don't believe in, that i'll be very sad.

Becky, Becky I need you to calm down. Do not self destruct over this.

Maude Reads Things

I'll take "Necessary but painful conversations" for $500!

Maude Reads Things

It also rhymes with Mojo Jojo and if that's not an ironclad conclusion I dunno what is!

Uniquitous

A lot of things are understandable, but also unacceptable. Like... I get it, but you also have to maintain being an acceptable human being.

Becky's self-worth has just taken a huge hit. I feel that she's feeling that if she wasn't good enough for Joyce, what makes her good enough for Dina? Abandonment issues are just compounding to the point where she's starting to expect it as a given.

@Uniquitous, If all it takes for Becky to be labelled an 'unacceptable human being' is trauma-forced abandonment talk to the girlfriend who followed her, after Becky said she shouldn't be talking about this with her, then please strike me from the acceptable human list. I've been so much worse, and am better because people still accepted and cared for me. If our language here in these forums reflects how we think in real-world settings, then it's a problem.
