I like to see Dorothy still doing the Dorothy thing and pushing for accurate language and definitions; and equally, Joyce holding firm on her own capacity to choose her own definitions. Also, like how her huge blue eyes contract when she's pushing back (just noticed, Dorothy's do, too.)

I like the supine-together scene-setting panel and the sitting-up-together competitive fitness panel on the ends, but the faces in between are an incredible treat. The first thing I noticed was how there's an unbroken line of eyeglasses across five panels. It's like the way that lettering forms lines at the base and x-height of characters, within which the individual letters form the words and sentences. Art-detail-wise, the central five panels show the blue pillows behind Dorothy's head, whereas Joyce has propped her head up on her right forearm bent at the elbow, so is seen in front of the brown wall from the camera angle used. Not that I think our artist would ever do otherwise, but the attention to spatial consistency throughout this comic adds unobtrusively but significantly to our buy-in to its intended level of realism. At the story level, I'm glad to see Dorothy now completely at ease in the situation, and Joyce further welcoming sex into her life as a normal thing.

Really? I'd consider Dorothy to be more Kim coded since she's been the super active, extracurricular involved straight A student. Not sure how much Ron-like Joyce would be though. Loyal and supportive? Even in moments she's messing things up? That's all I got.

Them's rookie numbers, ladies. With no refractory period, the only limit is how long you can go before your body is threatening to turn in its resignation. Also as cute as this is, I'm a little too worried about Becky (my beloved) to fully enjoy it. Though to be honest, if a new Becky ship arrives with potential toxic yuri (I miss Billie/Ruth so fucking much) then I may recover. Also, I dunno why I'm calling it toxic yuri, like my main interest is in couples that challenge and complement each other, which is why Billie/Ruth was peak to me. As much as I fucking ADORE Dina, because she's a sweetheart, and Becky's probably my second favorite character, (after Ruth) I felt like their relationship was missing something? I dunno, I feel like Becky's insecurity-riddled ass sort of needs someone who's really outwardly passionate about her, and Dina's wonderful, supportive and extremely loyal to the people she loves, but she's usually pretty measured, while Becky obscures a lot of internal mess by being energetic and boisterous, which Dina isn't pushy enough to break through. Like, to be clear, it's no one else's job to make someone open up, or handhold someone into healthy choices, but the reason I wrote a dissertation on Ruth/Billie on one of the past strips was because the two of them had incredible potential while growing together, something I find kinda relatable. I need to shut up already, but basically Becks probably needs someone who cuts through her bullshit and who is more outgoing to help soothe her anxiety, and Dina deserves to feel like she's completely loved as she is, not to feel like someone's second choice. Joyrothy is cute, but I think my affection for the pairing will probably grow over time, since the current storyline is just... Packed. I'm worried about Amber, my heart is aching for Asma because she looked so fucking shaken after the protest, I'm worried about Becky, and Dina, and Joe. What I'd love right now is for Walky to go see Amber and see whether it kicks an urge to take care of her into him. Like, Sarah went to Joe, and Dina shouldn't feel responsible for Amber alone, but Walky knows Amazi-Girl *and* Amber and the two of them can be vulnerable with one another. And then my sweet Becky will hopefully find support in Ruth, since they've got a lot in common, both before now, but especially with the whole 'pining for previous love interest who is with someone else now,' going on. :(

yes I didn't want to say anything before I got confirmation but it's huge isn't it? Becky and Joyce used to be each other's best friends but that's not true anymore. Of course, one doesn't have to use the term in an exclusive way but I do think Joyce considers Dorothy her singular best friend. For many storylines it seemed apparent to me that Dorothy and Joyce understand each other better than Becky and Joyce, who have been growing apart. I think a really important difference between these two friendships is: while Becky and Joyce will always support each other, their individual growth has mostly happened independently. Vs. Dorothy and Joyce inspire each other to change. (The fight about atheism/religion is a great example of this but I don't want to dump more words unless someone is interested). I've been waiting for a really long time for the comic to acknowledge this!! although I didn't expect the girls to get together this quickly, which throws even more complicated feelings in. Poor Becky... she's always been a little scared of Joyce changing, I think in fear of exactly this. I suspect her current heartbreak reflects not only her unrequited love but the pain of realizing your best friend has grown away from you.

Context: I haven't read the Slipshine yet, in case anything in that affects the following comment. It wasn't just sex Joyce was afraid of, it was sin. She was told, repeatedly and often, that having sex outside of very specific parameters would lead to her suffering eternal conscious torment. Giving up that belief, whether due to giving up on religion entirely or to moving to a different way of thinking about faith, is going to be very freeing, but as we've seen with Becky, it can be a very slow process actually fully letting go of the shame she feels for doing completely harmless activities.

but that DID make Joyce somewhat afraid of sex, because she imagined it as a big monumental God-defying act. and it's not as big of a deal as she psyched it up to be. also, holding onto things long after they've slipped away from her is an integral part of Becky's character, whereas Joyce (her foil) is able to change even her deepest-held beliefs rapidly. so I actually don't think Joyce will have the same morality crisis Becky did and immediately request marriage

Idk why they'd take them off. Most people only take them off to shower or charge. You can get a sports band off in a single tug sure but I can't imagine the thought crossing my mind while getting hot and heavy with my new partner. @zee, Oh, for sure, it makes sense to me, but I still think it's funny. I don't wear a watch much these days, but when I did? I'd constantly be taking if off. It often annoyed me. Personally, I would probably remove a fitness band at some point during sex if not prior. Glasses stay on cuz I'm incredibly near sighted. Those only come off for sleeping and reading when I feel like having the book or screen like 2 inches in front of my face (which I actually often do when I'm chilling in bed.)
