Fart Captor

Okay Chloe it's nice that you're doing right by Asma but I still don't forgive you 😤

Logibear

Alright. Asma must be protected at all costs. This was true before this strip, but its more true now

ArdieBea

Asma. SUPER conscientious!

Kazo

Look, as I always say when I decline extra hours, I have PLANS. Those plans may be 'sit on my ass and watch hockey', (or in Asma's case go bowling) but they are PLANS.

Lia

Yayy bowling hhh I wanna go biwling

Fart Captor

I don't actually remember the specifics but it had to do with Ruth being hospitalized and also when her grandpa showed up

AE Gonzalez

“I wanna put my cooch on h- . . . bowling, I wanna go bowling.”

Harold

DORKPY

C.T. Phipps

Pudding Head knows she was at the protest and is part of the University. That time off will be...permanent.

Morgan Byrd

Okay I love her she’s great

Gale Tazzin

"oh i know it isn't necessary but please let me do it anyway"

Harold

"I wanna make a 7-10 split, if you know what I mean." "Um... no, Asma, I *don't* know what you mean." "Yeah, neither do I."

Dan Rabin

Once the scene is set by the first panel, the strip proceeds as a standard alternating-speaker conversation—but note how Chloe's head posture remains similar in both her panels, while Asma's varies as she asks, hesitantly, for more time off. Chloe's eyes go to Asma after her awkward ask, but Asma averts her eyes as she unnecessarily brings her reason for time off into the conversation. This means essentially nothing to Chloe, for whom Asma is a conscientious employee with enough hours in the bank, but we may presume that Asma is embarrassed by tonight's bowling date to be a breakthrough for her. This strip gives us more characterization for Asma, while also informing us that the bowling date is set for tonight, which in turn helps us understand her big smile on awakening this morning. We also get to see that Asma's participation in the protest isn't a problem for her immediate supervisor. Oh, and her putting in too many shifts helps us accept retroactively that she's (?almost) always the one staffing that desk. So, even though there's no real advancing of the plot here, this strip pays for itself by giving us a boatload of information that integrates Asma into the milieu of the comic even though she's an established character. Willis has anticipated and answered some of our questions in a way that's easy to accept. Good job!

Populuxe

Asma doesn’t do downtime well.

VengeanceKnight

I remember the specifics. First, she very much neglected to notice Ruth’s spiraling despite being her direct superior, not to mention not realizing that all the doors she needed to replace were probably an indicator that something as wrong, as per her own admission. Second, after Ruth’s breakdown she immediately flipped on letting her go from her stressful and ill-suited RA job because Ruth’s grandfather showed up and told her not to. Again, she didn’t pick up on ANYTHING re: him being an abusive dickwipe.

Astariel

She ignored all the major red flags coming from Ruth's grandfather and went along with his plan to keep Ruth on as RA, ignoring both her protests and the fact that she probably deserved to be fired.

Aside from me not having much in the way of personal plans while I was working a seasonal job at the denim store, this is more or less a conversation I ended up having with my manager many times. Basically it boiled down to "Yeah, it's great that you're picking up all these shifts, but it's the end of the week and we don't have enough payroll and/or you're at the legal limit of hours for part timers for the week...clock out now and go home!"

So, what exactly is Dotty and Joyce’s plan for this whole bowling trip? Somehow Jedi-mind-trick Sal into flying solo into middle America-ville so Asma can fail to hit on her? Rely on Danno to drag Sal along, so Asma can fail to hit on her coz she’s got a boyfriend? Jedi-mind-trick the three of them into a polycule? (Hey, that one’s got possibilities…)

Tessea

"Asma. What's her name?" "I don't know!!!!"

Joe Crow - Words & Pictures

I don’t think Chloe’s a bad *person*, as such, she’s just kinda bad at her job. And let’s be honest here, right now the only two folks in the college workforce that I’d say AREN’T bad at their jobs are Leslie and …well, Asma.

Waifu Purplebutt

"... You want to put your cooch... on bowling...? Yes, I suppose I could see why you'd want to go bowling, then."

Zesstra

ASMA STATS This is Asma's new second-wordiest strip with 60 words, overtaking Removed from 3:4 (57) (which had been her wordiest strip until her current number 1) and behind "Next time" from 16:1 (73). I will be surprised if anything overtakes "Next time" any time soon. This isn't necessarily hugely interesting but I think things overtaking Removed, in which she's still mostly a background character, feels significant.

Giant Speck

Asma is literally me. My supervisors just staged an intervention earlier this week and made me add days off to my work schedule.

Sajuuk-Khar

I was going to say Willis how dare you make me have complex feelings about Ruth’s dipshit enabler boss but I think FC’s comment is nicer

Sajuuk-Khar

The curse of being an anti-capitalist with a strong work ethic 😖 I’ve been there, Asma, I get it

Empress of Robots

I for one cannot wait to see DoA become a bowling yuri

Zesstra

Fifteen years of buildup, but worth the wait.

Zesstra

I have a desire for background characters at the bowling alley named Nico and Roman. They're all I can think about when I think of bowling these days (and for the last 17 years or so).

Rob McBobson

"Nico, it's your cousin! Why don't you take me bowling? And afterwards we'll go get drunk! And go a-rock-n-rolling!"
