Vivian

Proud of you, Walky

Megh

honestly surprised walky actually got out of bed

Fart Captor

LMAO. Girl that is ice cold

ArdieBea

I know it's cruel, but I cackled at poor Walky's face.

HenryVolt

Yeah you can huff yourself on the way to class.

ArdieBea

But especially alongside Joyce's intoxication.

KittyKai

Lucy is the one who called Joyce a bisexual version of herself and by god she is on the money xP

5099 5618 v2.0

(/looks to the left) "Oh, hey, Joe."

ArdieBea

Yeah, big ups to our boy. He's doing good despite it all. And thanks to Booster.

Paul's VHS Recordings

Well, it wasn't the "first thing," it was "Hi" but yeah, their first conservation went into Dorothy's smell being on Walky's clothes.

Logibear

"Because I don't want to feel like a knob in front of my ex and my friend who yeeted me from my other ex girlfriend" The cool thing Walky is that if you keep your mouth shut here, someone else going to look like an even bigger knob

Josh Bacon

She’s— she’s smelling the jacket, right? Right? Not smelling her fingers? That would be… kinda gross.

Smoochie

Joyce is overboard, and self-assured, and oh no, she knows a dirty word … WITH THE LIGHTS OUT, ITS LESS DANGEROUS, HERE WE ARE NOW, ENTERTAIN US

C

"Nobody's surprised, it was called like weeks into your friendship!...It was weeks right? God, it felt like last semester took a decade..."

Simon Magid

HAHAHAHA. (okay, that was a little bit mean but Walky’s expression in the last panel is priceless)

MrShoggoth

This honeymoon period is giving me diabetes.

Simon Magid

Go to Dad Joke jail. Go directly to Dad Joke jail, do not pass Go and do not collect any money. Now think about what you have done.

voyager-ngc5195

"Ask not for whom the aforementioned fucking was with, for it was with meee!"

DramaQueen

Yes, props to Walky. He’s a good man.

Dan Rabin

Today's nice detail is that the door in the background is open because Walky has just walked out, always ready to appear in a beat panel if he gets to be there for the punch line. He collects them for a class. Sometimes it's not fun, but it's for science.

Logibear

"The honeymoon has entered the amputate my leg phase"

C.T. Phipps

Sal is kind of ticking me off with how little she's supporting her brother. They weren't close at the start but Walky made every effort to bridge the gap. This is just crappy behavior from a sibling.

Harold

I'm not sure whether this is Walky taking Booster's advice to heart, or Walky deciding that the pain of going to class in this company was preferable to spending another second listening to his roommate. Either way, it's good to see him up and about and going to class.

Railway Series Book Club

who would win: potential autistic aversion to the kind of texture cooch residue would leave on her hands, OR the allure of keeping part of yourself dorothy-flavored for as long as possible

tifani

That was a lot a bit mean! Like I don’t WANT Joyce in some kind of shame spiral (I just feel like it’s gonna happen) but this amount of smugness over legitimately hurting someone and the continued need to rub it in Walky’s face as well as refusal to be even the least bit discreet considering Becky or Joe could show up at any moment is bothering the hell out of me. Like out of all the potential people who could have overheard her and been deeply hurt by this Walky was the one that would bother her the least obviously but a) we KNOW he’s hurt. Why does she feel the need to keep making it worse for him? and b) his arrival should absolutely be a sign that she needs to fucking RELAX already BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE ARE GONNA SHOW UP.

Astariel

It's the jacket. If you enlarge, she's clearly holding the collar to her nose.

Harold

Their little group has always been, and always will until the end

Harold

Dumbing of Age, Book 17: She is Who the Aforementioned Fucking Was With

Astariel

I love how proud Joyce is of her girlfriend. She also got a rare Sal compliment. Poor timing by Walky. He's probably wishing he stayed in bed right now.

Megh

i mean, it's funnier if she's smelling her fingers

Mariah

no one seems to be supporting walky here except for jennifer and booster a little bit.

Crunchos cereal

Also: Walky, remember how you used to joke about Joyce and Dorothy being attracted to each other basically also from the beginning? It hurts, yes, but it's not like you are innocent here, nor ignorant.

tifani

Yeah I get that playing it cool is Sal’s whole thing but considering Walky is her brother and she’s dating Joe’s best friend and there is no way in hell Danny is going to be okay about this you would think she’d be having some kind of actual conflicted emotions about this.

Harold

"So... I should wash this?"

tifani

Okay thinking about it but Joyce being confronted with everybody apparently being way too chill about this only to soon find out that Becky and Dina broke up and Becky renounced God over her and Dorothy will actually be pretty damn funny. She is not prepared for any of that!

C.T. Phipps

Sal seemed to loathe Walky due to his being a mamma's boy. However, Walky noted that and attempted to support her and even confront Linda. Sal doesn't seem to have acknowledged any of this.

Mitzi B.

I'm arguing for Walky's innocence on the grounds of "all his jokes about dorothy and joyce being a thing were hilarious"

Fart Captor

I'm fairly sure she's showered since they last banged

C

It was a surprise to Joyce herself, that's why she's gotta declare away.

Smoochie

I might just be reading things differently but Sal seems a bit more ‘ominous’ than aloof or nonchalant. Maybe it’s the black background and the slight side eye. Sal did acknowledge Walky can be cool though. She and Billie had a brief convo about it before Billie said she’d tell Walky all about it and Sal threatened her

Simon Magid

I don't actually disagree with you. You make some very good points. Unfortunately Joyce and Walky have been at loggerheads for a long time and gloating must have been very tempting to her. That she gave in to temptation is... not good but all too human. As to dialing it a bit down, also a good idea but one I think is not occurring to Joyce because she is drunk with the moment and the whole experience. And yes, other people are definitely going to show. Knowing Willis, I suspect they will arrive at the worst/most embarrassing possible time.

tifani

Anyway Joyce is obviously going to keep up this whole…behavior…until Dina, Becky, or Joe shows up. I’m thinking Dina will be the first.

tifani

Yeah she’s clearly riding the high of the experience but it’s time for the crash now.

William Lewis

Sorry but Walky has earned how he's treated.

Kal

Did they actually break up? Cause it felt more left open for what mightve happened between them. Becky was spiraling and did say "just leave me" but we bever got dinas response

EnterTheHero

I love how everyone's reaction to this news is to point out that it isn't news. "We get it, you're gay."

tifani

It felt like a break up to me but we’ll see

Smoochie

Agree to disagree.

SkittleE

Maybe if it was another character, but Dina? I think she would be a lot clearer if she was breaking up with Becky.

Logibear

Dumbing of Age Book 18: My Girlfriend Bought It For Me!

Jennifer Novelli

The sad fact is that at some point the DoA fanbase decided Walky was the villain in this story, and I can already see the main site going nuts over Joyce dumping on him over all this.

AE Gonzalez

Once again, surprisingly restrained. She could have easily held her index and middle fingers in Walky’s face and said, “guess where *these* have been!”

AE Gonzalez

Dina not sleeping on her Dino bed (a gift from Becky) was a pretty damn clear signal.

Grace Serenity

We're always the last ones to know things about ourselves!

Empress of Robots

@Queen of Sodor: I feel like it’s been established that Dorothy’s cooch is both Joyce’s newest favorite toy and newest favorite food. So I think keeping that Dorothy flavor going is going to win.

Empress of Robots

Let’s just hope Joyce doesn’t start calling going down on Dorothy “going to Flavortown”

Empress of Robots

I’m torn because I feel bad for Walky but also Joyce dunking on Walky is never NOT funny…

Harold

@Empress of Robots: "Time to tune up The Dorothy Noise Machine!"

Smoochie

…I just got a flashback of a roommate drunkenly doing that to his frat brother in college.

Smoochie

“How dare all these POCs get in the way of my long awaited yuri and/or still possible polycule!” Versus “How dare these lesbians not suffer enough for their pining and longing!”

CoreyWW

Yeah I agree (again I’m not caught up in the full archive and casually reading main updates) but yeah…this punchline was legitimately the first time I felt really frustrated at Joyce. It’s obviously building to something, so I get it, I’m just like waiting for it…

Tessea

"It's my scent now!"

Lea

I....I was 100% expecting my close up to resolve into Joe as the figure in the two rightmost panels. Upon zoom'n'squinting, I was DEEPLY confused.

tifani

Just had this vision of Joe, Becky, Sarah or Dina being the next to walk out and Joyce freezing up immediately only for Walky to be like, “Go on Joyce. Keep talking about how much you fucked.”

Harold

Request: Can we get a Tumblr hi-res of panel 6 (or, ideally, panels 5 and 6), a/k/a The Adventures of Sniffy & Snippy?

Sajuuk-Khar

@Empress: Dorothy breaks up with Joyce because she starts wearing a custom T-shirt that says “MY GIRLFRIEND IS MY DINER, DRIVE-IN, AND DIVE”

CoreyWW

Seconded. I do have to say panel 6 Walky is a top tier Walky face

Mitzi B.

Literally -_-

5099 5618 v2.0

@CoreyWW I suspect it's building up to her realizing how she's a bit like her mom, when she thinks she's right (and is not willing to listen to counterarguments)

Harold

Keener: It's Not Just For Breakfast Anymore

Jennifer Novelli

Personally, I think Walky and/or Sal are gonna burst her bubble, first. I hope Walky, at least, gives her a WTF speech, since no one else will.

Sajuuk-Khar

Willis have you considered partnering with Kalshi, the weird gambling horseshit company, to make insane amounts of dollars “financializing” the intense difference of opinion in your comments section? no, because you’re not a demon from Mammon’s circle of Hell? I mean just thought I’d ask, in case you were

Sajuuk-Khar

Danny, out of left field: YEAH, YEAH, WE’VE ALL HAD OUR FINGERS IN DOROTHY’S COOCH, HONEY. GET NEW MATERIAL

Maude Reads Things

Sal tends to stay out of other people's romantic lives. I'd imagine she probably won't say much to Joyce unless she's given a very strong reason to. Note she basically ignores Joyce talking about fucking and tries to shift the conversation to the jacket. Walky just got here, so we'll see how Sal interacts with him about it.

Harold

@Sajuuk-Khar: “Ah did not need that visual, Wonderbread”

tifani

Just took a minute to remember in another universe Joyce and Walky are deeply in love. For those familiar with all the continuities (I read shortpacked and this so that’s all I know) would you say Joyce in this universe dislikes Walky to the degree in which she loves him in every other lifetime?

tifani

I also know she was apparently obsessed with Danny and Willis response to that was total indifference in this world so that’s interesting.

tifani

Thinking more on how Willis responded to Joyce with Walky and Danny in this universe versus others and there is a nice poetry to the idea of obsession without an actual romance translating to indifference with Joyce/Danny but actual profound love being turned into intense dislike bordering on hatred for Joyce/Walky because out of respect for what this relationship is in other continuities it can’t turn into indifference. It was something that mattered and even hatred brings with it a degree of investment and passion. Even if Walky and Joyce are never canon in this universe it is impossible for them to not have a profound effect on each other for better or worse. They can’t ignore each other.

tifani

Interesting! And this Joyce likely could not conceive of that and see herself as herself but then could Joyce in every other life recognize a version of herself that can’t love Walky? How much does who we love define who we are?

tifani

Really gonna fixate on this idea for a sec: what does the version of Joyce who looks at Walky and says “this is the love of my life” say to this the dumbing of age version of Joyce in this moment right now? Also looking at it in an ex Christian way what does a Joyce of 6 months ago who looks at every person she meets as worthy of kindness and understanding say to herself right now in this moment? To a version of herself that is actively delighting in harm she caused? Joyce seems to equate this idea of freedom and liberation without a higher power as a moral compass as permission to be willfully blind to the feelings of others. It’s like after years of active policing of herself to mold herself into the version of herself that could be worthy of heaven she has no idea how to be kind without it? (Aren’t you tired of being nice? Don’t you want to go apeshit etc) but I guess what I’m thinking about is this whole idea that some Christian’s have that no religious faith leads to a kind of nihilism. You don’t know how to be good without the fear that a God is watching you. If Joyce is going to embrace her idea of what an atheist is her idea of an atheist is someone who refuses to engage with guilt. Because what is guilt without the fear of cosmic retribution? Idk. I’m rambling.

Smoochie

The fact that she sees Danny with complete indifference in this universe raises a fun thought about what it would be like meeting other versions of yourself. And the nature of love, hate, different stimuli, happenstance— “A ring on your finger? Oh! You must be the version of me who married Danny instead of Walky.” “Oh no, I’m actually married to Dorothy. Seven years this September. Hah! Danny?! I don’t think we’re much more acquaintances…At best.” “(Kill Bill siren noises)”
