I'm wondering if this is Joyce's flavor of post-coital, ex-fundie breakdown where she might be oversharing about her recent sexscapades to compensate for potential shame-noise eating itself in her head, but, and I never thought I'd say this, I'm with Jennifer on this one. Like I personally can't stand when people talk at me with overly intimate details of their sex lives at length without prompting. Becky and Dina definitely shared that they'd done it, but neither of them were getting too detailed about their experience with their friends afterwards and the build-up scene where they were testing for 'pants euphoria' was really intimate and playful before leading into one of my favorite Slipshines. I know the point is that Joyce was mad sheltered and brainwashed, so she's coping in a similar way to when she first expressed her atheism to Dorothy when she said she was "smarter now, now that [she] didn't believe in God," while swinging to the extreme of acting like a jerk. The main difference here is how sex with Dorothy has now become Joyce's fixation, dismissing how she'd promised to talk to Joe about what happened, dismissing how the Bulmeria protest was overshadowed, outright choosing to be a pretty shitty friend to Walky, and then info-dumping about her sex life to whichever friends she hasn't alienated. I'm realizing I think I agree with Jennifer not because of the sex even, but because Joyce feels... Mean lately. Going through the archives to check my sources, I forgot she was intimate with Joe after he got her a weighted blanket right after she'd been making out with Dorothy. Then she promises they'll talk later, and she never does. Which I know she'd had a stressful day what with Becky finding out, and Hank showing up, and trying to cover for Jocelyn, but I feel like you can't just forget that you promised to talk to your ex-boyfriend about the state of affairs (no pun intended but I'm leaving it in because hehe) to tell everyone how you're having sex WITHOUT it coming off as really shitty. Oh boy, there I go rambling again. I do hope that Jen might tell Joyce she's being kind of a jerk in a way that Joyce actually listens to, since obviously she wasn't going to listen to Raidah. Right now I'm worried about Becky, since the last few arcs have touched on her being reminded of her mom through moments of her own suicidal ideation, and she's so unmoored from everything right now that like... I dunno, someone call Leslie. :(

If I was in this friend group I would literally sprint away from Joyce being like this. That might just be me being on the Ace spectrum but like, c'mon. You may be liberated but tact still exists. Look at how Becky and Dina announced their canoodling for pointers on how to be proud yet understated.

I don't think that's necessarily why everyone might feel Joyce is being a little tactless? I agree with Logibear in that even if Becky and Dina *were* more obnoxious, which is subjective, they weren't explicit. Joyce's entire last statement is about being bitten by her girlfriend to muffle her "impassioned screams" so they wouldn't wake up Sarah. Which we know Sarah did hear them, so it just has a different tone to it than Beckasaur's "Guess what, we fucked!" And leaving it there. It was regarded within the cast as obnoxious, but in a cute or endearing way (by Dorothy, Amber, and Sal, as examples) and it did have a different vibe to me.

I think she's perhaps being a bit more detailed with Billifer because to some degree, Joyce has seen her as a sort of sexual role model. She's had premarital hanky-panky! _With girls!_ And because she's something of a role model, she wants to impress her with her growth, but in a very Joyce way.

It feels no one batted an eye at Becky and Dina's exclamations of fucking because Becky has already established herself as being loud and proud. Becky did happily announce to everyone she was a lesbian without being asked. So the behavior wasn't strange to rest of the social group, maybe just cringe. Becky and Dina were one and done telling people. The readers never saw Becky and Dina acting as if they joined "hallow ranks" of society. They likely talked about sex to each other, but the only time Becky got explicit was to correct Joyce that being fingered is indeed sex. (correct me, if I'm wrong. thanks) Joyce on the other hand, this behavior was vastly different from the norm the social circle is acquainted with of her. Joyce is fixated that she had sex and keeps telling her friends. Acting like she joined some club or leveled up. This is in no way wrong or bad of her, but she's being very repetitive in talking about it and that is likely gonna annoy some folks. Walky likely wouldn't have called her a sore winner if she only laughed in his face once about getting Dorothy. Implying she did it several more times (and weather Walky deserved it is an entirely different convo). It's likely the repetitive nature of Joyce's declaration of having sex. Becky and Dina seemed like they were 'one and done'.

Now that she’s had actual gay sex she seems to be rewriting history because for whatever reason saying she lost her virginity to Dorothy matters to her. (Because her entire sense of self worth has to be about Dorothy now apparently) But if you were to ask her to her face if she had sex with Joe she’s not going to say she didn’t.. If you pushed her on the timeline she’d probably go catatonic about it. I don’t think any of this really matters though. It’s only worth discussing and debating because Joyce refuses to SHUT UP about it.
