As amusing as this tirade is Joyce, you really need to talk to Joe

Emily Lamont

Oh sure, Joyce has strange autistic rizz until you have to experience the autism of it all. Okay Jennifer.

Minzoku Bokumetsu

Welp, time to invent a NEW GENDER to be attracted to

Jeremy AR

Hey Joe acknowledgement maybe that makes people be more patient.

Ria

Ever since Joyce got clocked as autistic she's really just been so deliciously nuts all the time and I'm LIVING for it

Simon Magid

Oh poor Joyce. I think the perfect person for you to talk about it with would be Dina. If nothing else she would say something that would arrive like a bucketful of ice cold water and at the very least shock you into being a lot less giddy.

LupinThe8th

Not about this though. Other things. ...Though maybe hearing some details would soften the blow.

Railway Series Book Club

honestly as annoying as joyce may come off as here i actually related super hard to it! sex is fun to talk about and sometimes its hard to find anybody that it's like, reasonable to talk with about it! definitely want a word other than 'commiserate' regarding it though

Maybeeus

Yup you're gonna have to defeat Roz in combat and take the mantle of Sexpert in place. Roz will be exiled for all eternity for her failure unless she can complete 13 tasks and redeem her name... We're still figuring out the tasks sorry.

Railway Series Book Club

average neurotypical, being super into the autistic girl until she displays any of the unmarketable autistic traits, smh my head

Fart Captor

baby queers are adorable but they're A LOT

Astariel

Aww, Joyce! It sucks when you're excited about something and don't have anyone to talk to about it.

Smoochie

Honestly I took it as she is putting off speaking to him again if she can help it—so he’ll probably have to come to her inevitably

Fart Captor

it doesn't help that she's also a baby person-who-finally-stopped-being-sexually-repressed

Astariel

Maybe Jennifer would be more open to talking about it if Alice had put her cooch on her cooch recently.

Gwen Sanger

I BET he'll come to her!

Crunchos cereal

Walky? Though probably off the table, too. Hasn’t been the best communication about this, this far. Amber? Probably not very receptive at the moment. Dina? Flipped the table already.

C

Joyce is a bit of a mess, but she's doing her best.

Smoochie

I think she was going for ‘commemorate’? Celebrating your first time feels like something to commemorate with another friend who has had similar experiences to yours

Gale Tazzin

Joyce finally bagging Dorothy only to realize she prefers sex with Joe is the funniest outcome

Logibear

"Whats the word for celebrating something without feeling guilt but having an untold amount of repressed guilt that you haven't worked through? Damn, I can't remember. We used to do it all the time back at church."

Astariel

I wish I had your optimism.

Gale Tazzin

oh god i just heard "sex with a lady" in coach steve's voice

Harold

"Jennifer, you've... y'know... You've *done it.* With a lady." "Yes?" "What's it like? Oh wait, I *know* what it's like because I've done it too! Eh-eh, wink-wink, nudge-nudge!" "Now you've done it, Joyce! You've *ruined* Monty Python!"

Logibear

¿Por qué no los dos?

Dan Rabin

Nice chunk of Joyce-think bookended by two-shots, ending with Joyce marshaling both a triangle smile and a forefinger. I like to think that Jennifer was working on that eye-roll the whole time. They've been standing still in front of the math-classroom building the whole time—Jennifer doesn't want to be walking with Joyce, and Joyce doesn't want to leave while she still feels the need to talk, I guess. Joyce's thinking about Joe is right there in the center of the strip. Jennifer's maybe-attraction-to-Dorothy, known to Joyce, is still out there: https://www.dumbingofage.com/2025/comic/book-16/01-not-so-smooth-criminals/thehold/

Mariah

no where joe joe center of universe must have 2000 page comic about joe. In fact lets make the comic joe of age and every character will just apologize to him every strip forever.

Maude Reads Things

That is true, Jennifer is a bonafide lady sex haver.

Shane Wegner

I think "also enjoys" is a different flavor than "prefers".

Jayne Lindgren

Really? I'd probably find it kind of offensive.

Jeremy AR

At least 3 of them involve whipped cream.

Shane Wegner

Doing the best with/in spite of the meager equipment her upbringing provided her to climb these mountains. Heroic, really. It's like a piece of string and the Legweights of Shame.

Logibear

Almost certain that Alice would be eating this conversation with Joyce right up. Possibly because she would be all about the gossip however, so take her interest with a grain of salt

Kelly (they-them)

Joyce is going to help Jennifer attain her greatest dream: Attaining parental attention and affection. Jennifer is trying real hard to have Joyce make her straight, but that's not possible. But just you wait, Joyce is going to help Jennifer find positive parental figures and develop a secure attachment style

Logibear

Yeah, it also sounds like the plot to a shit 90's bro comedy.

MrShoggoth

The thought of talking to anyone about my sex life makes me break out in hives, so kudos to Joyce for getting past that particular molehill, as much as it makes me cringe reading it

Logibear

Completely agreed

Girlycore

Pass, no thanks.

Girlycore

Good news, there are already plenty of other options!

GundamBradley

I mean, Daisy would be into hearing it, but who knows the last time she's seen any action.

Katrina Marie Paton

And yet, somehow, Jennifer hasn't just walked off like everyone else.

DramaQueen

Meanwhile how long has it been since Billy has had sex with a lady? Or a guy either. Maybe this conversation is making her feel horny and lonely.

ArdieBea

@gwen Six times daily.

DramaQueen

Actually same with Jennifer whatshername.

ArdieBea

That's called, "calling the prayer chain." And sometimes, "confession."

DramaQueen

She broke up with him, maybe as far as she’s concerned she’s done.

ArdieBea

@Leander. Huh. That does seem to describe Willis' writing pretty accurately. Have you been... you know, reading the comic?

Astariel

I strongly suspect that accounts for part of her reaction. Plus she's already been dealing with Lucy & Jacob doing it in her room a lot.

Logibear

Might be because everyone has walked off that she's stayed, Joyce being alone has historically been a bad time for her and Billie has social nous to be aware of that.

Maybeeus

Rotating in my head a version of the He Lives In You scene from Lion King 2 but it's DOA Joyce and Anti-Joyce.

Annie

Regardless of being 'last choice" by order of elimination done in Joyce's head, Billie knows better as to how the talk will really go. Not a gab/gossip session but and Q&A session.

ArdieBea

You know, to non-USAmerican ears, Joyce using the word 'lady' for Billifer is simply surreal. How does it chime in your minds, Stateside folk?

5099 5618 v2.0

Joyce acknowledges Joe, and talking to Joe about what's going on, and how it might be a good thing? Wonderful. Got any idea on next actions in light of that, kin?

5099 5618 v2.0

@ArdieaBea It comes across as ever-so-slightly try-hard, but very in-character for someone who is doing everything she can to avoid having one specific conversation.

5099 5618 v2.0

@FC Yeah, there's a pressurized-gas effect. Gotta make sure no lit matches are anywhere nearby, for safety's sake.

Spartacus

I feel like Joyce is hydroplaning towards having a Scott-Pilgrim-style nega-self alter-ego

Sajuuk-Khar

For this conversation and also with how Joyce be, not weird. A bit fancy, but not weird.

Sajuuk-Khar

Joyce: Dorothy, oh, she’s a GOER! Oh, say no MORE, a GOER! Billie: Are you trying to say she’s a top? Because no???

Logibear

I'm sure hes not doing anything like literally waiting at his door or anything... No rush

Melenynder

I really hope Joyce ends up talking to Ruth about this

Zesstra

Don't let Alice hear that last line, Billifer. I can very much relate to Joyce's need to process the experience with someone, and her realisation that Billifer is the only suitable person considering the circumstances makes sense.

Gale Tazzin

@Jayne this isn't like 9CL making Seth straight because of lady legs, it'd be because Joe is more experienced and also more careful with Joyce, while Dorothy overthinks everything. Joyce preferring Joe sexually would not mean she prefers *men in general* sexually. and I agree with Leander that it'd be hilarious for Dorothy to attempt to outcompete Joe, and also good character growth for her to realize that someone else might be better at taking care of Joyce than she is (at least in one regard) I'm very interested to see how this new development affects Dorothy's possessiveness of Joyce

C.T. Phipps

a reminder that Joyce is Jennifer's best friend from Jennifer's perspective....and Joyce considers her like 4th.

VengeanceKnight

But Robin’s life is already so complicated!

Empress of Robots

The emotional whiplash between these Joyce and Becky scenes is dizzying lol

Riley Aurelia

@DramaQueen She also ended the conversation by saying "We'll talk later, I promise." without giving a real answer to his suggestion, which at best is thoughtless of her. And she definitely doesn't feel that she definitively answered his suggestion because when Dorothy called him her ex-boyfriend, she responded uncertainly.

Amós Batista

The perks and problems in being on top...

Donny K

Oh Joyce, you're definitely in your twenties <3

Jayne Lindgren

I mean, I understand what you're saying, Gale, but "a woman could never satisfy you like a man could" has been an offensive canard against Sapphic women for basically ever. It's used to minimize and dismiss sex between women as fundamentally missing something that only Man with his Man Parts can provide. So yeah, I still would find it pretty disgusting if the "joke" is that former sex pest Joe is just always gonna be better at satisfying Joyce than someone who is, at the moment, the love of her life. I don't find it funny, I find it incredibly insulting, stereotypical and the exact kind of gross gender essentialism that this comic usually stays away from.

Harold

@Donny Kershaw: I don't think she's there yet. Pretty sure she's still 18.

Heatth

I think Joyce got demoted to 2nd now Alice is back in the picture.

DramaQueen

Yes, “Billifer” seems like the best name. “Jennifer” was the facade that Billie put on to get in with mean-girl Raidah.

DramaQueen

It sounds like a word she was trained to use at church. But Billie is not a lady, she’s a tramp ba-dum ching.
