Jim Avery

Speaking as a resident of Minneapolis, no, this is never great.

C

Well shit.

KittyKai

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE HAHAHAHAHAHA

Jeremy AR

Honestly i think we deserve this.

Dan Rabin

The raiding cops are entering Read through the lobby.

jafortee

We’ve been on the “no fake-outs train” for a few weeks, no reason to think we’ll stop now :(

Andrea Andrew

How does this get resolved without some status quo shifts?

Jeremy AR

Terrible happenings aside, Asma looks so cute in thise first two panels!

HenryVolt

Even if this is Amazi-girl related this feels over the top for fist fighting a couple off cops who I bet didn't get it nearly 1/10 as bad as Amazi herself... I wondered what really happened the night she got injured. Did she see something she shouldn't have?

Jeremy AR

By the power of police incompetence! (hopefully)

Fart Captor

You can bet your ass they didn't show up this heavily armed with this many pigs for Ryan or Ross

E

Question for the author, if you’re down to answer: I’m assuming the whole protest storyline was conceived during the Gaza encampments in spring 2024. How much has the storyline been altered in relation to events since then? (administration change, etc)

Fart Captor

Unfortunately, "police incompetence" covers both the least AND most violent possible ways this can play out

Logibear

Whole lot of finger pointing going on. Nothing good ever came of men in vests pointing fingers...

Dan Rabin

Ow. The scene-setting panel 1 has Asma arriving in her public-facing workspace, a familiar and comfortable space in which she is a famiiiar and comfortable presence to the residents and guests she serves. Panel 2 shows her preparatory calm. Then we get a wide borderless panel showing the action of the cops entering the dorm, with the main colors being the small figure of Asma standing behind the desk and the red and blue lights of the police vehicles (I think) shining into the lobby through the windows. We are left with a suitably-terrified Asma. It is not clear whether the bald guy in the lower-right corner of panel 3 is pointing at Asma. Usually my forefinger callouts are more cheerful, alas. Even if they're not immediately coming for Asma, they're in *her* building that *she* watches over as a big part of her identity. She is violated. Oh, and BTW the clock in the desk are shows just before noon, the forewarned time of the raid.

William Lewis

For her, that's as nightmare as it gets. ACAB and Islam is an deadly mix.

Spartacus

Eh, police crack down hard when their authority gets cracked, and crack down harder the less secure they are

C.T. Phipps

Puddinghead totally would have informed on Asma being at that protest.

Dan Rabin

David Willis is very clever and has almost certainly planned out his plot and pacing very carefully. The kidnapping had real danger, a real murder, some comic relief, good action, several reversals, a failure of the main group to catch the van, a successful chase by Sal and Amazi-Girl, Blaine finally accepting A as A-G, and ultimately himself being executed—all while Mike's status was unresolved and Amazi-Girl wasn't telling Amber what actually happened (so we didn't know). I predicted essentially none of this from Blaine and Ross's arrival in Bloomington, except that I was expected Bad Shit to happen. Much as Willis has occasional fun with incompetent authority figures, I can't imagine we're in for anything that simple.

Dan Rabin

I myself don't see Chloe as that badhearted, and we haven't seen any evidence that she know Asma was at the protest. WIllis could conceivably spring this on us as a surprise (like Faz being at the kidnapping, then becoming sympathetic), but I think we can heap our perception of evil on the cops themselves and the higher administration of IU, which is portrayed as callously opposing the protests. It's 2025: cops have facial comparison tools, and universities have student faces on file (see the third DoA ever: https://www.dumbingofage.com/2010/comic/book-1/01-move-in-day/reputation/).

Dot

Anyone for bowling, officers?

Kelly (they-them)

I have too many feelings to leave a coherent comment about them I hope Amber is making good progress shaving her head

Fart Captor

I don't think she'd like, take the initiative to offer the info to the cops, but if they came and asked her if she knew of anyone who'd been at the protest I don't have much confidence that she would keep her mouth shut

Fart Captor

I mean it's not like cops weren't already treating student anti-war protests like this looong before Trump

David M Willis

CT PHIPPS YOU KEEP SAYING THiS AND I KEEP TELLING YOU NO THIS IS NOT A POSSIBILITY, WHY DON'T YOU EVER LISTEN TO ME, I'M PRETTY SURE I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT, VIS-A-VIS CHLOE'S LEVEL OF VILLAINY (basically nonexistent)

C.T. Phipps

So what you're saying is....she's not a villain? :shocked pikachu face: (and thus thanks to Word of God, with great reluctance, I abandon my Evil Chloe theory that I've had since she made Ruth RA again)

David M Willis

Cops were going to be shitty, nor were they going to be curbed, no matter who won the election. things like "will gender studies as a major still exist" or "will they try to stop them from printing the newspaper," those were things that were different

David M Willis

ct phipps, sometimes you say something wild in here, and i refute it or shut it down, and then you go on to repeat it in the main comments tomorrow, as if i never said anything it's weird, man

Gale Tazzin

asma i think you should work less and take more time for yourself

Packy Anderson

I concur. Cops get way more upset about cops getting beaten up than they get about normal people getting beaten up, because it violates their sense of entitlement.

Packy Anderson

Oh, crap. I forgot Blaine finally knew Amber was A-G. What if he told a cop, and that info got around. They may not just suspect they're going to find A-G in Read; they may be looking for AMBER.

Packy Anderson

Except for non-Patreons, it's happy Boxing Day.

Tessea

And it was supposed to be such a nice day for Asma. That foreground cop looks pre-pissed. And is the bald one pointing specifically at Asma???

SkittleE

I dunno what the rest of you are talking about, but as far as I can see panel 3 has confirmed Asma for Smash

C.T. Phipps

I think the answer is less some terrifying conspiracy or malicious compliance on my part than my e-mail doesn't alert me to all of the responses to my posts. I apologize if you've posted Puddinghead's lack of evil before and I missed it. I approve when Word of God takes time to explain details. Will be more attentive in the future and, again, very sorry.

EnterTheHero

MERRY CHRISTMAS! YOU'RE ALL GONNA DIE! STREET SMARTS!

Jens H. (Nethead Jay)

Dan Rabin: Need to redact that URL, a few characters too many at the end makes it not work

Zesstra

@Packy Anderson: dumbingofage.com/opaque/ When asked by Lester the crooked cop if Amber was AG, Blaine actively denied it, which Mike-in-Amber's-head attributed to the fact that he lies when the truth hurts his pride. (dumbingofage.com/pride/) Therefore, there is at least one cop who has at least had Amber as a person of interest re AG at some time. Whether he believed Blaine's denial is another question.

Shane Wegner

“She resisted. RESISTED.”

Zesstra

My Christmas present is getting to update my Asma Stats spreadsheet. Merry Christmas, folks.

Dan Rabin

I think our not knowing how A/A-G was injured is part of our author's setup, and that he knows our likely speculations and can choose to validate or bypass them according to his artistic choices.

Empress of Robots

Now I really need a Smash reveal splash page of Asma with bolt cutters with “Asma’s breaking free” as the text

Peach Reaver

I see this and see Willis with curlers in their hair, facemask on, megaphone in CT Phipps face as they let them have it and it's so funny. Get mom'd by Willis

Rob McBobson

Well, I did want more Asma strips, so my Christmas wish came true, but, uh, for some reason I'm still worried

E

Thanks!

Joey245

"I JUST WANTED TO GO BOWLING!"

Harold

That's the cops' not-so-secret, Tessea. They're always pre-pissed.

Harold

@Peach Reaver: Coming in 2026 - the brand-new "Get Mom'd by Willis" Patreon tier

shoutytrack | issa maspro

genuinely hope that the students at large can barricade the upper floors with swiftness but... the phones are compromised, so texting gets students in hot water for conspiracy. asma and sal better be alright. and now a compliment: I love this tension. here are Consequences after this delay- wondering if Dina being by Sarah and Tony will compute into how things will be playing out over the next batch of stripes. excited to see 🌱

Peach Reaver

For only $1 a month you TOO can have Willis come and yell at you like your mother clearly should have
