Vivian

Oh no

Jeremy AR

Dammit Malaya, why you choose now to be so correct?!

C

Good time to start recording crimes being committed by the police.

Samel da Camel

Bad news bob. Sal better show up before Amazi-Girl jumps/falls 30 feet with a stab wound

Sajuuk-Khar

I’d say alert Chloe, Ruth, but

VengeanceKnight

Please tell me Amber got her suit out of her closet.

Packy Anderson

What's with that middle cop's cheek?

Jim Farmer

We need the return of Ruthless. It's time to suplex a bad cop.

Astariel

Sal hid it; we don't know where.

Harold

@Packy Anderson: Maybe it's a bandage from Amazi-damage

Harold

Ruth: [gasps] "MY FEMURS!!!"

Harold

@Jim Farmer: With you in spirit, but that would be a bad, BAD idea

Astariel

Shit, very worried about Amber, whether it's getting caught by the cops or falling from dizziness and breaking her head. We wouldn't get that blatant a repeat of Mike, would we? I'm suddenly thinking that we haven't seen Amber in any preview panels for ages, and it's not making me feel better.

Dan Rabin

Yes, the closets, the costume, and Malaya does the unpleasant-truths thing. The last panel is an interesting reverse scene-setting borderless one: instead of setting a scene for ensuing action, it presents an action that we are to understand was already going on in the preceding panels. The oblique and tilted perspective in that panel reinforces our sense of Amber's wobbliness. She's been lucky so far, but that just gives us a potent mixture of "will her luck fail her?" and "what creative plot twist could save her *this* time?".

William Lewis

Grab your phone and document their crimes. ACAB.

EnterTheHero

Oh, it gets worse! Thanks, Malaya.

Megh

so anyway what's the price of a full body cast lookin like these days?

Fart Captor

yeah, she'd need to get big enough to suplex them all at once and frankly if they saw a woman that big they'd probably start shooting before she got the chance

Logibear

"Just searching closets" - he says as a group of goons move deliberately towards a specific room

Astariel

She changed out of the suit before Sal found her in the woods. It may have been damaged when she was wounded, but she wasn't wearing it for the surgery. https://www.dumbingofage.com/2025/comic/book-15/04-the-only-exception/enigmaticass/ Here's Sal finding her in the woods. The next page shows her after surgery. ETA: She's also wearing the suit on the way home here. It looks mostly intact. https://www.dumbingofage.com/2025/comic/book-16/01-not-so-smooth-criminals/civvies/

VengeanceKnight

So what I’m hearing is that if Amber is able to get away, the cops won’t have anything on her.

Gale Tazzin

yeah pretty sure that's why they're hunting Amazi-Girl in the first place

Fart Captor

But they can't do squat if EVERYONE suplexes a cop

5099 5618 v2.0

...good point, Malaya. Not helpful, but a good point.

C.T. Phipps

Do they need a warrant when it's school property and the school is evil? Not EVERYONE in the school but some of the school.

5099 5618 v2.0

Admin might have given them permission to search

ArdieBea

Given how easy it would be for them to target Sal, I'm very much hoping she won't!

Harold

"Fortunately, Amber landed on Mary. And there was much rejoicing."

5099 5618 v2.0

Mrs. 5099 wondered aloud if Sal might not jump her motorcycle under the window to catch her. The look I gave her inspired multiple rounds of clarifications that that was not a serious suggestion on her part. In fairness, this was shortly after she agreed to watch Die Hard for the first time.

Samel da Camel

True. Maybe not Sal then, but someone needs to distract them or something, because I can't imagine self-defenestration ending well (though Sal seems to manage)

NinjaZaku

While this is not the worst idea you've ever had, Amber, standing on a ledge while on pain killers is certainly *up there*

Shane Wegner

“She resisted, so we had to use excessive force. The tox report/post mortem will show she had lots of opioids in her system. And no we don’t want a judge putting this whole thing under a microscope about who stabbed who when.”

C.T. Phipps

Asher needs to rescue Amber and then start a polyamorous love triangle with her and Ethan.

C.T. Phipps

Amber has a history of assault with a deadly weapon and mental illness. Ugh. The cops already have their story ready

Jesse

Is Amber gonna get interrogated by Agent Smith?

ArdieBea

Mary's role in this shitshow may be worth pondering at some point.

Tessea

Oh crapbaskets. Does Mary know who AG is?

Tessea

Oh crap! And Jennifer already thinks Sal is Amazi-girl...

Shane Wegner

Third floor jumps are rough in the best of times, which these are not. Her various stitches are under no obligation to hold if she does this. Anyway this whole plan relies on not even one cop watching the outside of the building for anyone slipping away, when their target has a known history of slipping away.

Shane Wegner

I don’t disagree, but being taken into custody doesn’t seem better.

5099 5618 v2.0

@C.T. Phipps I am certain she has written that fic, but suspect it is in the "Do not show others" drawer.

Girlycore

Does Amber HAVE a "do not show others" drawer? Wouldn't that imply she had a filter on her fanfic-soaked brain?

Irene Knapp

mm. it would be the wrong call in the real world (please never do this, I've seen people do stuff they think is heroic and get killed). it might be the right call for her. of course, I am now super scared for her... but in an interestingly different way than I was after the last three strips, so I guess that's good writing :)

Irene Knapp

hah yeah I've been thinking for a while that it is going to become super important who knows what about AG. that's going to be particularly interesting to see after it being something of an open secret for a long time... anyway, I'm pretty sure Mary doesn't know. pretty sure.

Irene Knapp

yeah, Malaya has it right. cops in practice don't really obey the law on this topic anyway, which is unfortunate but...

Logibear

Not getting "I'm taking you into custody" vibes from these guys. More of a "she's got a weapon!" vibes. Don't think we can expect due process here, hope that Amber gets out but also hope that someone doesn't try to block their path demanding proper procedure as they'll likely lose some teeth.

5099 5618 v2.0

@Girlycore She might not. Amazi-Girl probably does, tho.

joe mcguire

I’m not getting “taking into custody” vibes from these dudes…

Waifu Purplebutt

They don't need a warrant if they got permission from the school

Amós Batista

I don't know how you are interpreting the cop speeching. But, as a south American person, all I can read from him is: "We are looking for a person which we want to grab, torture, and make them disappear".

Melenynder

Under the fourth amendment, dorm rooms are considered houses. IU is a public university, but it wouldn't matter if it was a private one. Even if Dina let them in they couldn't search Amber's stuff.

Waifu Purplebutt

The university's housing contracts can supercede this, as if a student signed it (requirement for being housed in the dorm), then they'd have given permission already and would lose their ability to stay in the dorm for breach of contract if they refused police entry. Given the university's practices so far regarding recent events, it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case here.

Mitzi B.

jesus christ Amber what was your thought process leading to "i should climb out the window"

Maude Reads Things

Yeah, I was wondering that last night. I was wondering if Ruth can demand a warrant and if that wouldn't be the university or building services' job (assuming they haven't given permission/authorized this prior)

Yue Ryong

Live with integrity. No regrets

Shadow12000

Not exactly true, it's just straight up against the fourth amendment for them to do any searches or seizures without a warrant. Opens them up to massive lawsuits which, of all things, a university would definitely be able to afford.

George Simpson

A student housing contract shouldn't supercede the *constitution*. The police and university may try and claim otherwise, but judges usually take a dim view of that kind of thing.

Jon F

You’re absolutely right. The next question is whether the university leadership/regents are inclined to stand up for the rights of the students. I’d guess not, especially for a state university (though I don’t know anything about IU governance - maybe there’s something I’m missing).

Astariel

Staying and getting arrested doesn't really seem like a better alternative.

Waifu Purplebutt

@George Simpson It's not superseding the constitution *if* the contract the student is required to sign to gain access to the dorms as a resident stipulate that they're required to allow law enforcement access if given permission by the school under penalty of contract-revocation (thus unhousing the student).

Lia

Cops bad climbing out the window good

Kelly (they-them)

I was looking at the image preview just now and thought that one cop had a dick on his face. The whiteboard dingdong bandit strikes again
